The human race defined as Homo Sapiens, has allegedly been around for 200,000 years.
My question is this.
Why has technology leaped forward so much is less than 100 years, Did aliens really crash land at Roswell and are we reverse engineering their technology?…
I love a good story, a great one is even better…
Conspiracy theories have been around for such a long time that we often see them as a product of the 20th century, truth is, they have been around for much longer because the human race has a survival instinct that puts suspicion at the top of the defence list.
Our suspicion and opinion protect what we trust and all of that comes from information.
What if i suggested that the information you absorb for protection is not what you think?
What if the things you take for granted everyday aren’t what they seem?... listen on
Being honest and forthright is at the top of my ethos.
Lying to people is fundamentally wrong at all levels, it destroys respect, trust and loses loved ones and friends.
Over the years I have, and I have seen others lose what was important to them.
There are times that being honest fails to protect those around you, this episode will show how that happens and how it can escalate.
A change of direction after the last intense episode, due to me feeling that I need to get how I’m feeling out there. The past 5 weeks have been pretty hard physically and mentally, I’ve tried hard to stay with the planned episodes and have failed because this week I’ve decided to go back to the personal stuff. so here we go.. listen on experience vs lesson learned time.
This is the second episode celebrating Black History Month.
Whilst its not designed to be a detailed history, it is designed to help you learn, question, evaluate and talk more..
Numbers have been around for as long as civilisation in one form or another.
Politicians use them, scientists use them, retailers use them, we all use them.
What if I told you that most furniture companies flout laws on their prices to give you a fear of missing out if you don’t buy now?
What if I told you that numbers and statistics are easy to manipulate to any message the presenter desires.
What if I told you that numbers presented in a false way or ignored can and have changed history?.......
listen on.
This episode is an early release as part of Black History month...
I have spoken previously about the difference between my experiences with my accent as an identifier as to who/what i am, these friends have skin colour as theirs.
When I first came across the term, I was quite shocked.
I hadn’t heard it previously and had no idea, at the time, what it would feel like, carrying such a burden every day.
To paraphrase a certain superhero ‘ with great knowledge comes great sorrow ‘.
Imposter syndrome is you being different to those around you and casting self doubt on what you achieved to be there.
Lets talk about what it means to be a friend in the real sense. caring about those special people that desire your time and attention and How to not upset them.
It also reveals what you don’t want to be.. listen on..
Understanding ‘Creative Flow’ and how to level it up!
This one has a taken a lot of additional research which took longer than expected or scheduled for, it was supposed to go out a while ago.
It’s been a journey of intrigue and learning for me on making this episode, somethings you learn from experience, sometimes those separate experiences just come together in realisation.
Like pieces in very large puzzle.
I think you will appreciate why this one took longer and find value in it.
I’ll share additional reading resources I found useful later in this episode.........
I define knowledge as anything you have learnt and stored away…
……. I have realised that experience is a something completely different.
Experience can be your own ‘event’ or one you have experienced through someone else, whether that is reading, listening or watching.
So what’s the difference i hear you think.
The difference is emotion.
Hitting that the creative wall, it hurts.
You have so many great ideas in your head and sometime you can’t find the words to describe them, stories dry up and your fingers freeze over the keyboard.
Or….. you are in mid ‘flow’ something else comes up, you leave what you are doing and when you come back your screen laughs at you because that flow has been lost.....
What this one is about:
‘How Gaining Knowledge Successfully Works for Me based on Experience’ and in the next nine minutes of your life, I will try to guide you on a new path.
This episode, I trust, will give you a lot to think about,
so feedback your thoughts through the FB page, search markaaronc
or, if you prefer.. email to mail@markaaronc.com or drop me a message through the website at markaaronc.com.
here’s the background bit.
Knowledge is often Knowing something that others don’t.
Sometimes it’s not knowing what others do and having the skill to find them.
I feel my strengths are boosted by my insatiable knowledge and knowing who knows the things I have yet to learn.
think of knowledge like a bank..
special acknowledgements to my awesome friends Yach and Nahshon for their input and feedback on this episode
as you know from episode 3.. when i speak, people make a judgement of me and its not always a good one.
I have a fairly strong personality now so i have learned to deal with it and them in a positive way.
most of the time..
my friends have a different experience.
they are judged by sight and this is a very different and instant judgement.
my friends are judged by the colour of their skin.
what if i told you that your skin being white rather than black, brown or everything else is your privilege?.......
what is change and why is it a challenge?
A change is something that isn’t usual, it upsets your routine and destroys your comfort zone
The challenge? dealing with it, remembering what went well and that which did not.
Think about this for a moment.
Change isn’t always nice.
what is gaining acceptance? gaining acceptance is doing anything that makes you feel better, being part of the collective.. it makes us feel valued, liked, loved.. how do you measure it? with the likes, hearts and everything else on facebook/instagram/snapchat/tiktok, twitter and every other social media platform that seems to spring up.. the subscriptions on your youtube channel seeing someone you’ve helped and you see a large smile because you helped them in some small way... more on the podcast ;)
Some thoughts around the past ten weeks of podcasting
I’ve enjoyed doing it
Its been a massive learning curve though achievable in more ways than I thought
Some shares have been therapeutic, some have been hard
In all this, the only thing that has been hard is getting feedback from you guys, so, please use markaaronc.com, search fb for markaaronc accent and let me know what you think.. I’ll take the good , the bad, and the ugly.. as long as its constructive!
What this one is about:
dealing with the arrogance of experience: how I learnt to deal with it.
hang on in til the final reveal for some awesome resources to help you take this episode further..
Ask someone what regrets they have and they will pause, look up or down, pause again and some may reveal theirs..others will say none.
Everyone has regrets, this episode is about understanding your past and how to analyse what happened.
To help these goals , I'll describe and share what works for me,
I’ll share several ideas and how putting these into practice works. You may find it useful..listen on.......
A Link Back is a direct line to an idea floated on a previous episode.
On this one, we go back to the start and explore episode one and storytelling.. how to do it deeper, better and in a lot more detail, with confidence and passion
In this episode I finish off what was started last week.. some hard hitting thoughts and a lot to take away.. I started with the story of a boy growing up in a troubled country, now we move to how that boys experiences help shape the man.
This episode is all about a story.
A story of a young boy growing up in a troubled time in Northern Ireland, the impact on him, his family and how it changed him...
The experiences that helped shape his life, opinions and core values.
It's also part one of two....
In this episode.. I talk about how media shapes our thoughts and opinions on the world. Some content and views may be controversial but hey its me. You may be surprised by the extent of how what is presented to you as news as really an opinion. listen on...
In this one, I talk about the experiences that you may be missing from those you work with because you have other priorities or simply don't ask how they are.. People around you don't always have the time to chat about themselves or prefer to remain shielded. This is how to help them reveal themselves, gain their trust and be happier at work.
In this episode, slightly longer than previous, I talk about something I'm even more passionate about.
How people perceive me, the effect it has, what you can learn from those who are racist to make you a stronger, better more understanding person....
The words we all use everyday have an impact on those who hear them.
After many years in retail wondering why I was getting people annoyed or angry, I came to a startling conclusion.. it was my fault.
I talk about what I did to resolve it and why my customer base now is so fantastically loyal...
Words in any language are remarkably powerful when they are structured and delivered correctly, this is your foundation .
First and if you like, the test podcast episode talking about: the art of storytelling with passion and why you need to do it. This episode was the hardest to do for many reasons and when you listen you can hear it.. well I can.. listen to the next episodes and hear the difference...
