I never liked the idea of coming out
To me, it felt like I needed to tell an important truth about myself and give someone else the power to either accept me or deny me.
It also created a room to let someone make you feel rejected or unloved.
I have 3 siblings and I’ve never heard them coming out as heterosexual.
I always knew there was something different with me.
My youth church group told me it was a sin.
My parents made it seem like it shouldn’t be that way.
The macho guys in at high school always talked about girls.
I thought there was something wrong with me.
Something I needed to fix.
Something I needed to keep a secret.
Something I shouldn’t be sharing publicly.
Because what if they don’t accept me?
And what if my family turns their back at me?
And what if I get bullied for being who I am?
I should definitely keep it a secret, I thought.
Moving out of my parents’ house, living on my own and working on my own self development taught me a lot of things…
It taught me to love and accept myself for who I was – not for who people thought I should be.
It taught me that it really doesn’t matter what people think about you–what matters is what you think about yourself
It taught me that you can’t and won’t be liked by everyone–and that’s okay.
It taught me to focus my attention on the people that actually love and support me–not on the people that wants a different version of me.
It taught me that love always wins. That no matter how I was raised, what the so called "rules" were, or all the conditioning I was taught as a kid, love will always win.
I used to tell myself I needed to change. I used to pray and asked God to change who I was.
"I just want to be like the rest" – I prayed.
And you wanna know what?
I love my self.
Every inch and every cell.
I love my quirkiness.
I love my sense of humor.
I love my way of expressing myself.
And I love exactly who I am, inside and outside.
And I’m not asking you to accept me, I don’t need no one’s approval.
Whether you accept me or not. To me, it’s all about loving myself. (you can always unsubscribe from below every email)
And holy shit, I fucking love myself
I realized that for the longest time, I gave others the power to have influence over my actions.
We're at a very pivotal point in this world where we need to be able to feel completely safe and free to be unapologetically ourselves.
It's something we should implement more and more in our daily life until it becomes "normal".
So that’s my truth. And today, for the first time ever, I welcome you into my whole and only truth.
Much love,
Steven

Most struggling entrepreneurs spend the first 3 to 6 months in their business trying to have that perfect website, with the perfect logo and the perfect branding colors, only to realize that those are not the primary factor that is going to determine whether someone would invest in your business or not.

Moni started her own handmade business 10 years ago. She always wanted to get her products into stores, but was afraid. It took her 2 years to even approach a store to carry her line, but when she did, she saw quick success and ended up getting her first line into over 100 stores in just a few years.
A few years later, Moni started another handmade line and found herself in the busy world of being an entrepreneur and doing it all. She came close to burnout, but decided to do one more thing before giving up on her business. She had success in wholesale in the past and she wanted to give it another try. So, she stopped doing everything else, and focused solely on wholesale and it worked! In the first year, she got her new line into over 100 stores and by the second year, her line was sold in over 600 stores across Canada, the US and Japan and she even won the Small Supplier of the Year Award from the Canadian Gift Association.
Moni has always loved to help small businesses, so she took her experience in wholesale and created a program, Winning with Wholesale™ so that every maker, designer and brand owner can learn how to grow a business that they are proud of, one that pays them well and lets them feel fulfilled without burnout or overwhelm.

Most struggling entrepreneurs look at what other people are doing, especially on social media, and start comparing themselves with what they have, or what they are doing, or what they are achieving, and they look back at themselves and they feel like they’re not doing enough. Often this brings the feeling of overwhelm or it brings the feeling of being stuck.
One of the things that we are talking about in the IPB programme is defining your success. What does success look like for you? Because my version of success looks way different than your version of success, and vice versa, your version of success looks way different than my version of success.
I would encourage you to listen to this episode and write down what success looks like for you and how you can measure your version of success. If success means that you can wake up every single morning and have breakfast with your husband or with your wife, or if it means that you can give your daughter a bath every morning or bring your kids to school– that is YOUR version of success.

When I first started my business in Aruba as a photographer, I felt alone. I didn't feel a sense of community in the photography industry, it was more like a competition.
I wanted to be part of a group of people that see others across the room as a community rather than competition.
But I never felt like I had something interesting to say or an interesting topic to create a program about. I had the fear of what if I made a mistake and people would laugh/judge me.
I had the fear that perhaps I won't be good enough so I never really acted on my dream. I always used different excuses, "I'm not ready yet. Right now is not the right timing".
Sometimes we use these excuses of "not being ready" or "I'm not good enough", but in fact, we are afraid of what other people might think or what's going to happen if we fail.
Let’s chat!

One of the common mistakes that a lot of entrepreneurs make when first starting out is that they think they should have a logo, a website, or their branding colors ready, before starting to market their services online.
This is one of the biggest mistakes that you can do and I believe one of the big excuses that many struggling entrepreneurs use to stay in their comfort zone.
Many people like to use the excuse of "not having it all figured out" or "it's not perfect yet" so they don't take action at all in their business.
But if you'd like to build a profitable business online, how do you expect people to invest in your business while you're not taking any action at all to put yourself out there?
Show notes: stevendecuba.com/episode44
Most starting entrepreneurs base their own prices depending on how much their competitors are charging.
They look at what other people are doing and they try to do more or less the same thing... without even realizing that this is one of the biggest mistakes you can make when pricing your services.
Think about it...
Do you think that every successful entrepreneur out there decided their rates by looking at what other people are doing?
No way.
Every successful entrepreneur knows that it's not about what other people are doing, it's about what you can bring to the table. (That's why the entrepreneurs are successful, to begin with!)
Successful entrepreneurs are not like most people, they're different, they act differently, they think differently, and they focus on the right things in their business rather than looking at what other people are doing.
Take a listen...

One of the common mistakes that I see a lot of struggling entrepreneurs do is that they spend most of their time creating new content rather than promoting their content.
Not only is this one of the most common mistakes, but also one of the easiest ways to get overwhelmed in your business... and sadly, a lot of people get there.
'Creative funk...' ever heard of it?
A creative funk is when it feels 'yucky' to create content.
You have no creativity, you don't know what to talk about or you're not sure what to post next, so you end up not posting at all.
Most people think that they should spend most of their time creating new content to attract more eyeballs to their business and this will help them grow a successful business online.
That's far from the truth.
Today, I'm going to share with you how you can work smarter and not harder. I'm going to show you how you can leverage all of your pieces of content so you can reach more people, have a bigger impact, and spend less time trying to figure out what to post next.

One of the things I’ve learned from my mentor, James Wedmore, is that business happens in phases. And every phase requires new sets of actions, lessons, and achievements.

Well… Let’s talk about it.
Just like my business mentor, James Wedmore, says: “Business happens in phases. And every phase of your business requires different actions, mistakes, lessons learned, etc.”
Just like playing a video game. You start at level one and as you go to level two, you are presented with new challenges.
Meaning, what you did in the past, got you where you’re at right now. And in order to take your business to the next level, there are new required actions that you need to take.

Spending 3 months working on your website, choosing your branding color, or designing that perfect logo are the most common and most costly mistakes that you can make in your business when starting out.
Not only are they the most common mistakes, but also the biggest factors that are preventing you from actually growing your brand.
Let me explain…
Most people give themselves the excuse of not beingready, therefore they won’t show up at all for their business.
They give external factors more power than their ability to commit to their business.
I’ve seen so many people not doing the things that they know they should be doing, not because they’re not qualified to do it, but because they don’t believe they have what it takes to make it happen. They have limiting beliefs that prevent them from actually taking action.

Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of people blame the algorithm for their lack of engagement on Instagram.
They say things like:
“The algorithm makes it difficult for me to grow my brand online”
“I’ve already tried different things on social media, but every time there’s an update I lose engagement”.
“The algorithm sucks! Only people with a huge following can actually get engagement”
They blame everything on the platform and the algorithm without even having the audacity to look at themselves.
What I believe in:
Your reality is a reflection of your inner wisdom.
Your mind is the master power that creates your reality. And your brain is the one that tries to keep you safe from danger, from doing the uncomfortable, from actually taking the leap and make a change in your life…
Basically, it’s a constant battle between your brain and your mind.
However, once you understand how the algorithm behaves and the factors that influence the algorithm, then you can start showing up on social media more strategically. It’s way easier for you to show up every single day and know exactly what to do that delivers real and tangible results.
I know how busy you are and I don’t want social media to feel like yet another thing to do on your long list of to-dos. If you only have 1 hour a day to show up for your business on social media, I want you to understand the most important things about the algorithm so that you can show up more effectively and use your time wisely.
What I’ve learned as I built my presence online, is that people like to see the real you.
If you’re a life coach, yoga instructor, wedding planner, or simply you have an online presence, you need to regularly take professional photos of yourself.
Having professional branded lifestyle photos can massively uplevel your business. Especially, when you know when and where to use them. How you show up online is going to directly affect your bottom line.
With really good lifestyle photography, the image tells a story and your ideal audience is going to be drawn to you in a way that you just can’t accomplish with generic stock images, these are so impersonal. You know how important first impressions are.
You got to show your face in these images. People need to see your face.

Let me the first one to say: it doesn’t matter. Perfectionism is subjective. The way you judge your content is TOTALLY different than the way your audience would judge your content. You may think that your content is not good enough, you might see the little things in your craft… but trust me, those are the things that ONLY YOU are looking at. The reason you’re looking at these small details is that you’ve been doing your craft for a long time already and you see all the little pieces. You might think that something is beautiful, I might think it’s ugly… who wins the argument? None of us. We both have different views and BOTH are OKAY. So if we know that perfectionism is subjective… and STILL, we’re not showing up on social media… then it should be about something else… Read the show notes here: stevendecuba.com/episode20

“You are not ready to show up for your dreams”
That’s what the old me have been telling myself for over 4 years.
See, back in 2016 when I moved to The Netherlands to pursue my business degree. In reality, I was just playing it safe.
I was scared of showing up for my dreams, I was worrying too much about what other people would say so I ended up showing up from a place of fear.
What I’ve realized is that having one leg in and one out wasn’t serving me and my business well. I wasn’t booking consistently, I was just trying to fill my calendars with things to do and not actually doing the things that are IMPORTANT for my business (you know, the things that ACTUALLY make money!).
So, what was stopping me? Fear.
Let’s chat friend!

If I had a euro for every time someone told me:
“I need a lot of followers to start a personal brand on social media”
I’d probably be a millionaire by this point.
See, a lot of struggling entrepreneurs think that having a lot of followers means making more sales.
But, how many times have you seen people with more than 10K followers but are NOT getting any engagement, let alone making any sales?
How many times have you seen people BUYING followers because they think that having more followers means making more sales?
Let me ask you something: Do you buy from someone that has a lot of followers? Or, let me rephrase that: Do you buy from someone BECAUSE they have a lot of followers?
Probably not, right?
So, if we know that followers are NOT the main reason people are buying. Then the proof is there. You don’t need a lot of followers to grow a successful business online.
“Okay, Steven, so what do we need?” (👈...that’s you!).
Well, friend, I’m glad you asked.
At the end of this episode, you will leave knowing exactly what to do on social media so that you can actually attract your ideal customers and convert them into paying clients.
Are you ready?

You go from not knowing what to post to be a professional online marketeer.
I know it sounds crazy: because how many times have you experienced when you’re planning a post for Instagram, for example, you spend hours trying to choose the best image (so that you’re feed is curated), but also the right photo to match with your caption.
While showing up is important, not communicating your message effectively and engaging with your audience, is not going to convert them into paying customers. I’m going to share with you my exact framework of how I repurpose my content to make sure I’m connecting with my audience in different ways.

When I first started this podcast, my goal was to be more open and transparent with you. I want to share what are the things that I’m going through as a business owner and I want to share my journey with you. I’m by no means an expert. I’m just a passionate entrepreneur who is trying his best and by sharing my story I’d like to let you know that you’re not alone.
Honestly, I waited so long to record this episode. Because I didn’t know what I wanted to share, to begin with. This episode is about my story. My journey. What I’ve been through. This is not an inspirational episode nor a sobbing story. This is me just being open with you.

I want to start by saying that personal branding photography is not simply having your photos taken for LinkedIn. That’s considered more like a portrait session. But not this. This is something different.

But here’s the important part: the amount of time you spend planning your personal branding photoshoot will determine the success of your photoshoot.
There are some aspects of planning a personal branding photoshoot that would determine the level of success of your photo session.
I know how it feels having so many ideas but now knowing where to start.
There are so many things you’d like to do that it can easily turn into overwhelm.
But not you, friend. And, for sure, not today.
Because today, I’m going to guide you on a step-by-step process on planning your personal branding photoshoot. Get your guide at stevendecuba.com/personalbranding
