Bob sits down and talks to Kerry Anderson and Catherine Buxton about their new show in this year's PortFringe22, Windows95 Relaunch. We talk about the operating system, and its influence, and play a little Technically Correct.

You can also play a game along at home by spotting every time Bob's exhaustion affects his speech patterns. For every time Bob misspeaks, rambles, uses the wrong word, and the like, give yourself 1000 points. At the end of the podcast, tally up the total and post your number. The highest score wins bragging rights and forces Bob to go to bed early. It's super fun!

We talk to our good friend and former Visiting Professor, Dr Hal Cohen.

Artist Description: We are not a company per se. We are a collaborative effort, a gaggle of artists if you will. I thought puppets were needed for this piece. Thus I asked Elliot Nye to join me. Elliot thought a second puppeteer was needed. Thus he asked David Handwerker to join us. I thought we needed a talented and graceful actor to join us. Thus I asked Amanda Painter. This is our company. We are from Portland Maine.

This new sketch comedy show from the minds of Portland's fifth most talented group of writers and performers promises to be a Project-X style rager. So strap on your party hats and get those little noisemaker things you blow into and they shoot out at the end and go BZOOO (you know what I'm talking about) because this comedy show is gonna be a SHINDIG!

Featuring: Greg Baker, CarlaRose Dubois, Gwenyth Fraser, John Heffernan, Bob LeBlanc, Molly McGill, Pat Neuguth and Tanya Schultz.

Presented here with permission.

Dave Ciampa

Dave is a Podcaster and co-hosts Ciampa & Klein: The Knight Rider Years (soon to be C&K: The Airwolf Years) with Greg Klein and Call Me Cordelia with his wife, Kristin.

Professor Randy Hunt

If it's theatre-related, Randy Hunt does it -- acting, directing, and even playwriting -- though he likely won't be stage managing ever again (hats off to the Stage Managers out there). He is particularly proud of the award-winning short plays he's written, and is very excited to unleash his first full-length play Inside Man to the world in 2021. Randy enjoys performing improv, especially since Southern Maine has so many talented improvisers to work with, and he is a proud member of the ComedySportz Maine improv team. Randy also hosts and cohosts various podcasts. We All Have a Story highlights the stories of the people around us for which we may not otherwise hear their stories (Headmaster Bob was the guest in Episode 2!), DeScripted, where he and his cohost Tyler Costigan take a closer look at the plays that have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama since it was first awarded in 1918. He is also the cohost of Balderdash Academy’s Head to Head: Competitive Trivia with Coach Steve.

Randy is thrilled to be an occasional visiting professor on Balderdash Academy when one of the other professors calls in sick and a full-time faculty member of the Teacher’s Lounge podcast, and cohost of Head to Head: Competitive Trivia. More information about Randy can be found on his website, www.randyhunt.info.

Fennel and TVP “Maine Italian” Sausage Scramble Sub

Serves 2

This is not an “Italian Sandwich” by any definition other than that Bob called it that because he had Italian subs for dinner that night. This is actually a Fennel and TVP sausage scramble sandwich. Sometimes it happens. The relish in this recipe is killer and can be used wherever you like. Make it a day or two in advance and it only tastes better.

12 inch Sub Roll

2 Tablespoons Sandwich Relish (Recipe Below)

1 Cup Flavored TVP (Recipe Below)

1 Tablespoon Vegan Mayo

Sliced Peppers

Lettuce

Vegan Cheese

  1. Mix TVP and sandwich relish together.
  2. Carefully slice open the rolls and spread on the mayo.
  3. Add cheese, lettuce, and sliced peppers.
  4. Top with TVP/relish mixture.
  5. Slice roll in half and plate.

Sandwich Relish

1 Cup Diced Dill Pickle

1 Cup Diced White Onion

Pastene Crushed Peppers to Taste

1 Tablespoon Pickle Juice

Fresh Cracked Pepper to Taste

Combine the ingredients in a bowl. Add in the amount of crushed peppers to taste. Top with black pepper. Mix well. Add to a jar and refrigerate. This relish tastes great on sandwiches and burgers.

Flavored TVP

1 Cup TVP

3/4 Cup Vegetable Broth

1 Teaspoon Maple Syrup

1/2 Teaspoon Rice Wine Vinegar

1/2 Teaspoon Toasted Fennel Seeds

Chili Flake to Taste

Combine ingredients in a bowl and wait for 10 minutes for the TVP to reconstitute.

Welcome our Visiting Professor, variety entertainer and electronic circus arts pioneer, Jason Tardy. He’s appeared on America’s Got Talent, CBS’s The Early Show, Inside Edition, and CBS Sunday Morning, and at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, the Golden Phoenix Casino in Reno, and three times at the White House! He’s an innovator of the circus arts and a founding member of the internationally recognized electronic circus art duo, AudioBody.

The most impressive thing, however, is the fact that he appears regularly with our own Human Variety show Coach Steve Corning. I know! National television broadcasts, appearances at the White House, well-respected innovator in the circus arts aside, he performs with our very own coach!

Okay Coach, I added it, you can Venmo me the funds any time.

Jason was fantastic. What do you expect? He’s been performing since he was 15. He’s funny, engaging, and a heck of a Visiting Professor. Rumor has it breathes fire for us during the show!

Want to see the fire eating and breathing? The video will be released Tuesday, September 22nd at 3pm or follow our YouTube for details.

We play Life With Me and the Balderdash Randomizer returned the subject of Dating. Do you know what that means? If you have ever taken a date to a buffet or to surgery, you’ll want to watch this bonus episode. We might have even spun the Randomizer twice! (SPOILER: we did and it came back with fan-favorite Sex With Me.)

Okay, those were pretty obscure. How about this? If you’ve ever been on an escalator or rollercoaster while eating salad then have sex with me at Balderdash Academy. BINGO! Boom. These practically write themselves. Watch it all go down on this BONUS episode of Balderdash Academy with Shawn French, video-game writer, and designer for Hyperkinetic Studios, lead writer of the RPG Epic Tavern, and writer/creator of Murder on the Midway for the Tales app, writer/co-creator of the comic book series Escape from Jesus Island, and the writer/director of the horror flick The Wrong House.

Shawn’s episode was particularly tight, so this is it for bonus material for the week. There will be a new video Friday when we get a sneak peek into next week’s Visiting Professor, variety entertainer Jason Tardy.

Welcome, Visiting Professor Shawn French. Shawn is a video-game writer and designer for Hyperkinetic Studios, lead writer of the RPG Epic Tavern, and writer/creator of Murder on the Midway for the Tales app. Shawn was hilarious in this episode, which makes sense. Before finding his home in games, he paid the bills as a stand-up comic and comedy writer, sports journalist and videographer, and film critic. Shawn is the writer/co-creator of the comic book series Escape from Jesus Island, and the writer/director of the horror flick The Wrong House.

Balderdash Academy welcomes Emmy Award-winning anchor, singer, trombonist, hiker, vegan, and man-who-missed-his-comedy-calling, Jeff Peterson of WGME CBS 13 News, Portland and WPFO FOX23. Jeff took the time to stay up late and join us for a night of comedy as our Visiting Professor.

Seriously, this man should be on stage. He was quick with the one-liners, ribbed our Headmaster like a pro (we all do), and laughed hard along with the rest of the faculty. If this whole 30-year, Emmy Award-winning Journalism thing doesn't work out, he has a home Yes-Anding with us at the Academy.

That's right, we cherry-pick some topics in this one. Why? because we're funny and smart. Besides, the Balderdash Randomizer landed on Sex With Me. We had to focus on how we relate Sex with Me to everything from tomatoes and French Cooking to Lloyd Bridges and Jaws 2. Yes, Lloyd Bridges from Airplane. No, that's Robert Stack. The other guy. Yes, Jeff Bridges Dad. I know, we're super topical.

Speaking of nonsequiturs, we don’t have lie detectors, alright? We’re way too broke for that… all we have is our keen intuition… which, honestly, kinda blows when it comes to figuring out if Molly is lying or not. Can you spot her “tells”?

What do you look like when you’re trying to hold in a..erm... right. This behind the scene bonus episode of our ducking internet show stars Molly’s poor connection and laughing at utter frustration.

Join us for our first bonus episode with David Hanright where the Balderdash Randomizer selected Sex. We talk about what Skateboards and Algebra have in common. Oh! And pay attention and you can see our Headmaster pronounce his name in two different ways. Because he does that. For some reason.

Now that you know how Marie likes to be towed, check out our next bonus episode where she tries to convince us that a car is not needed as long as you have thumbs and a beer.

If you love the idea behind buffets, check out our next bonus episode. You will get some behind the scene samplings that take you from Maskerbation to a heartfelt “thank you” and “we miss you”. It’s a beautiful window into our family of Chamber of Comedy improv performers housed at the Maine Repertory Theater.

David Hanright is a man of many titles. He's the Performing & Visual Arts Teacher at Thornton Academy, artist, actor, board member of the Maine Drama Council, Maine state representative for the New England Drama Council, comedy playwright, and Artistic Director and Co-founder of Maine Repertory Theater and improviser with the Chamber of Comedy.

We weren’t kidding when we said he was a man of many titles. These are just the titles he listed in his bio. We know for a fact that he is also the Maine Repertory Theater’s program designer, popcorn popper, furniture designer (as in design and make the furniture you see around the theater), set designer, videographer, photographer, graphic designer (along with Bob), main attraction, culotte ad designer, room sweeper, clown nose wearer, and cohost of the Maine Rep Update on YouTube.

Maine Repertory Theater and the Chamber of Comedy is the place where the faculty of Balderdash Academy became a family. It's the region’s only theater devoted to the creation, support, and development of comedy in the theater and they need your help.

If you'd like to join us in helping Maine Rep get through the pandemic you can do so here.

Ode to the Balderdash AcademyA Sonnet by Billy Shags

To Balderdash Academy, I write.

I love the way you laugh, write and edit,

Invading my mind day and through the night,

Always dreaming about the microcredit.

Let me compare you to a funny tune?

You are more blazing, sunny and awesome.

Smart sun heats the lifelong peaches of June,

And summertime has the awesome fossum.

How do I love you? Let me count the ways.

I love your prudent Alan and elan.

Thinking of your comedy fills my days.

My love for you is the awful callen.

We start with Sexy sourdough starter, frisky air fryer, and Jamaican me crazy. It’s Sex With Me with Visiting Professor Amy VonMacek. Then we have knitting at night and stories about Cumming. The club. Club Cumming. It’s in Manhattan. Why? What did you think we meant? Amy VonMacek is a knitter. It’s about a knitting night at Club Cumming. Finally, there’s a lot of leg work in the making of Balderdash Academy and sometimes things get cut. We find out is Molly's Canadian and then we see behind the scenes. We sometimes try new bits and when we do we often need to do the setup. You typically don’t see this part, but we found this particularly amusing, so here you go.
