Sometimes it is very difficult to choose between wheels and tracks when you buy a piece of Earth moving equipment.

Oh, did I mention “eco-friendly”? Unlike the Lincoln Navigator.
The Tesla Model X is loaded with state of the art features such as: top hinged rear doors, two or three electric motors that provide on-demand all-wheel drive, performance-car acceleration, and many other features I will get to as this video unfolds.
The Tesla Model X is a crossover car. The X is a mid-size all-electric luxury SUV. Developed from the full-sized sedan platform of the Tesla Model S.
The prototype was unveiled at Tesla's design studios in Hawthorne, California on February 9, 2012. At that event, Tesla planned for deliveries to commence in early 2014.
In November 2013, Tesla issued an update about delays that said it expected to begin Model X Electric SUV production the second quarter of 2015 and deliveries began on September 29, 2015.
Other delays slowed production and deliveries of the Tesla Model X SUV, these delays were caused by design changes and improvements in the technology, batteries, and interiors.
I might add here that program upgrades continue for all Tesla cars whenever Tesla has a change or improvement that will benefit the owner of the vehicle. They are transmitted to the owner’s car by the cars cell phone.
Let’s look into the features of Tesla Model X SUV.

For centuries one and two wheel wheelbarrows were used to move personal property, construction materials, mining material etc.
Imagine, making a simple road cut and moving tons of dirt and rock with picks and shovels and wheelbarrows and carts to move the dirt and rock.
In the 21st Century we have heavy, off-road haul trucks that can move anywhere up to 500 tons of material.
Today I want to talk about the Caterpillar Construction Diecast Masters 1/64th scale construction model of the Cat 775E off highway dump truck. The 775E is one of a series of heavy haul trucks made by Caterpillar. It is an older truck which Caterpillar has replaced with the 775G heavy haul truck.
Heavy haul trucks have been divided into two classes. Both classes are rigid dump trucks. The regular class which are rated to carry up to 300 tons, and the Ultra class which can carry payloads in excess of 300 tons.
Most large size haul trucks employ two types of powertrains. The first is the conventional diesel engine and gear transmission. Caterpillar uses these on all their haul trucks. The other type is the Diesel-electric powertrains, using the Diesel engine to drive an AC alternator or DC generator that sends electric power to electric motors at each rear wheel.
An example of the regular class is the 775E CAT, a rigid dump truck specifically engineered for use in high-production small mining and quarrying operations, and heavy-duty construction projects. The 775 off highway dump truck was designed to efficiently move mountains of earth and rock.

Flatbed trailers are selected when freight is not easily transported in an enclosed trailer due to its size or dimensions. Flatbed trailers allow for manual or crane loading and unloading from the top, back, and sides, making them a preferred choice for dimensionally challenged, time-sensitive deliveries or destinations without loading docks.

The Standard Oil Company has a long and colorful history. It began in 1863, John D Rockefeller, at the age of 24, joined with the Clark brothers and a chemist, Samuel Andrews, and started an oil refinery in Cleveland, Ohio. Within two years Rockefeller bought ought his partners and named the refinery “Standard Works”.
By 1870 Rockefeller and his brother William, along with Andrews, Henry Flagler, Oliver Burr Jennings and Stephen Harkness formed a new company, the Standard Oil Company in Ohio.
In his introduction to the abridged Norton’s edition of Tarbell’s The History of the Standard Oil Company, historian David Chalmers wrote:
“John D. Rockefeller and his associates did not build the Standard Oil Company in the broad rooms of Wall Street Banks and investment houses, water their stock and rig the market. They fought their way to control by rebate and drawback, bribe and blackmail, espionage and price cutting, and perhaps even more important, by ruthless, never slothful efficiency of organization and production.”
During the 1870s–1890s, Standard Oil absorbed many oil companies and established regional companies across the USA. In 1882, Rockefeller consolidated his dominance by transforming Standard Oil into a trust. Nine trustees managed the corporation on behalf of all shareholders. In 1885 the trust moved to New Jersey and opened another office in New York to manage overseas activities.
The court ordered break up of Standard Oil Company really began in 1890 when Senator John Sherman of Ohio initiated an anti-trust law in Congress:

Dump trucks have been around for several centuries. They range from simple dump carts to the first steam powered “tipper” to haul garbage, to the MEGA trucks used in open pit mines.
There are many shapes and sizes of dump trucks. But all of them have specialized uses.
This is a story of one of the many dump trucks/trailers and it usefulness in hauling material to construction sites.
It’s the “belly dump” or “bottom dump” truck and or trailers.
I said story because I could not find any info about Carl Walker Hauling out of Anchorage Alaska during the 60s. If someone out there knows anything about Carl Walker please let me know in the comments below. I would really appreciate any information that you could provide. To continue our story, the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake did considerable damage to Anchorage and surrounding countryside. In fact, the surface damage covered 185,000 square miles.
The same day the Good Friday quake hit Alaska my father charted a sailboat with a group of friends and sailed to Anacapa Island. The island is located in the Santa Barbara channel. They landed on the island and the sailboat departed. My father’s group spent the day and night on the island. Several members of the group noticed unusual tidal surges all Friday afternoon and commented that conditions were almost like tsunami conditions.
According to my father the group had a wonderful and restful, time exploring the island, a barbecue on the beach that night, and settled down for a peaceful night sleep.
During the night the tsunami hit the island around 4:30 am.

Kenworth, one of my favorite truck manufacturers, like so many other truck manufacturers came into being by someone buying or merging into another company.
Kenworth was no exception.
Gerlinger Motors of Portland, Oregon was a car and truck dealership owned by two brothers George T. Gerlinger and Louis Gerlinger Jr. The dealership was not enough for the Gerlinger brothers so in 1914 the brothers expanded into vehicle manufacturing.
The Gerlinger brothers began marketing a truck they named the “Gersix”. Their truck was powered by a inline six-cylinder engine. One of the first six-cylinder engines put in a truck. The truck was named the Gersix after the engine. The Gersix truck was framed in structural steel. The heavy-duty construction of the Gersix found itself in demand by loggers through the Northwest.
By 1916, Gerlinger Motors had outgrown its plant in Oregon. The plant was relocated to Tacoma, Washington.
The Gerling brothers leased a building from Edgar K. Worthington.
In 1917, Gerlinger Motors fell on hard times and filed for bankruptcy At that time Gerlinger was placed for sale.
E.K. Worthington saw a good deal, so he acquired the company with his business partner Captain Frederick Kent. They renamed the company the Gersix Motor Company.
In 1919 Harry Kent, his son, replaced Captain Kent, as a partner in the company on Sr. Kents retirement.
By 1922, Gersix Motor Company produced 53 trucks in its final year at its factory on Fairview Avenue at Valley Street.
By 1923, Gersix Motor Company had created a strong demand for the Gersix model line of trucks. With Gersix Motor Company success Gersix Motors was reincorporated as the Kenworth Motor Truck Company, thus, combining the names of partners Kent and Worthington.
The factory was once again relocated within Seattle to 506 Mercer Street and later to 1263 Mercer Street.
Wasn't that a colorful history, of how Kenworth came to be? Of course, that’s not the complete story. There are many more years of Kenworth history. But for now this will do.

The story of Dodge's beginning began when Horace Dodge and John Dodge founded the Dodge Brothers Company in Detroit in 1900, and quickly found work manufacturing precision engine and chassis components for the city's growing number of automobile firms. Chief among these customers were the established Olds Motor Vehicle Company and the new Ford Motor Company. Henry Ford selected the Dodge brothers to supply a wide range of components for his original Model A (1903–04) that included the complete chassis. Thus, Ford needed to add only the body and wheels to finish the cars. Henry offered the Dodge brothers a 10% share in his new company in return for $10,000 worth of goods. That became one of the best deals Henry ever offered to any company.

Hey 64th Gear Jammers, I’m Logan and obviously I’m not in Advantage Diecast’s warehouse today. I’m out to see a LPG storage tank farm.
Propane is a highly flammable gas and comes in steel cylinders or tanks. The movement of any propane cylinder or tank is fully regulated under the “Transportation of Dangerous Goods” (TDG) Regulations unless an exemption applies.
The use of “Liquefied Petroleum Gas” as the shipping name implies, is intended for variety of liquid petroleum gases.
What is propane? How is it liquefied? And how is it transported?
I think it is important mention a little about LPG-PROPANE. Propane is not made or manufactured, it is found naturally in combination with other hydrocarbons. Propane has a boiling point of -42 degrees Centigrade.
In its liquid state it has a temperature of Negative 188 degrees Centigrade or Negative 306.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
That's really cold.
Propane expands to 270 times the volume when it goes from liquid to gas.
So, 1 Liter of liquid propane will expand to 270 Liters of gaseous propane.
That's really a lot of gas.
Further, in its gaseous state propane is heavier than air and will tend to hug the ground.
Propane is transported in a liquid state under strict regulations. Unlike natural gas, which is delivered via pipeline, propane is transported under pressure by tank car, tanker ship, transport truck and local delivery trucks better known as bobtails.

Our story about the Pure Oil Company begins with its founding in 1914. Before that Three oil companies operating in the United States have used the Pure Oil name.
The first of the three companies began in the fall of 1895 as a group of independent oil refiners, producers, and pipeline operators.
Setting up in Butler, Pennsylvania, with headquarters in Pittsburgh, although it was incorporated in New Jersey.
The Pure company was organized by independent interests to counter to the dominance of Standard Oil Company in the Pennsylvania oil fields and was the second oil company (after Standard) in the region. Operations were based in Oil City, Pennsylvania. David Kirk was elected the first president. He was succeeded in 1896 by James W. Lee. Pure Oil sold illuminating oil in Philadelphia and New York City.
The second company: the Pure Oil Producing Co. was incorporated in 1902. In 1904 a refinery was built on the Delaware River which received 600 barrels per day from the United States Pipe Line. This increased to 1,800 barrels per day.
The third Pure company began when Beman Gates Dawes, his brothers, and partner Fletcher Heath whose Columbus-based Ohio Cities Gas Company which had begun in 1914 made an offer of $24.50 a share for the Pure Oil Producing Co. Dawes was building an Oklahoma refinery, and Pure Oil had production capabilities there which would benefit his company. The Pennsylvania company accepted the offer.
In 1920, Ohio Cities Gas Company's name changed to Pure Oil. In 1926, the headquarters moved to Chicago. Refineries were located in Ohio, West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Texas.

On October 10, 1966, a new truck line began. This trucking company was destined to become one of the largest truck lines in history.
Swift Transportation began operation by transporting imported steel from the port of Los Angeles to Arizona. On the turnaround they transported Arizona cotton to Southern California.
Founded by Jerry Moyes, the original company operated under the name of Common Market. The Swift name was purchased from the Swift Meat Packing Family later on and the truck line name was changed to Swift Transportation.
Jerry Moyes along with his father Carl Moyes, brother Ronald Moyes, and Randy Knight built Swift Transportation into a multi-million dollar business. When Jerry’s father Carl passed away, Jerry Moyes became the sole owner of Swift Transportation.

In this video I am going to continue with the history of Tesla Inc. and review the Tesla Semi models made by Matchbox.
Founded in July 2003 as Tesla Motors, the company's name is a tribute to inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla.
Elon Musk, who contributed most of the funding in the early days, has served as CEO since 2008. According to Musk, the purpose of Tesla is to help expedite the move to sustainable transport and energy obtained through electric vehicles and solar power.
I assume most of you are familiar with the Tesla cars, having seen one on the road or on YouTube.

Maybe if you live in the Fremont California area you might have caught a glimpse of the red Tesla Semi running down the road with a flatbed loaded with concrete blocks. However, this unit is only for real world testing and not in commercial transport at the time of this video.

Let's see! Today I would like to take a different route to talk about the Chevy Steel Tilt-Cab Box truck model by Neo Scale Models. These trucks were used by many companies including A&P Supermarkets.
In my previous videos episode ~ GMC 7500 steel tilt cab tandem axle tractor (https://youtu.be/RAToaZAsYao) and episode ~ Chevy Steel tilt cab single axle tractor (https://youtu.be/xttTaiK21pU) I described the Chevy & GMC tilt cab trucks and the many uses the truck was put to. So, see these episodes on my channel if you missed them.
Of course, I am going to do a product review on the 1:64thScale truck by Neo Scale Models: 1960 Chevrolet Tilt-Cab Box Truck for A&P Supermarkets, but first I thought it would be interesting and different to talk about what the truck was hauling and a little about the company it was hauling for.
If you noticed the thumbnails the company logo was on the sides of the truck. The logo represented “The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company” or “A&P” for short. As many of you know A&P was the grocery company that was responsible for the modern supermarkets we shop in today.
The A&P story began way back in 1859 when George Huntington Hartford and George Francis Gilman had a brilliant marketing plan for selling tea. Why not market tea using the mail. By using the mail to deliver the tea George and Francis could sell their tea at discount prices. Brilliant!

Hey guys, I heard the Coca-Cola Christmas Caravan is heading to Santa’s Village for a visit so I thought I’d run up to see if I could catch a glimpse the caravan and maybe see inside the trucks.
While I’m waiting for the trucks to arrive, I thought I would tell the story about how the Coke commercials began and moved from the small television screen to a real life caravan traveling throughout most countries in the world.
Here is the story of the most famous advertising campaign in advertising history.
The campaign burst onto the tv screens in 1995. Created by the ad agency W.B. Doner for a seasonal Coca-Cola campaign known initially as the 'Christmas Caravans'.
It started as an animated caravan of bright red lighted semi-trucks and trailers and evolved into a caravan of real semi-trucks. The trucks were painted bright red and adorned with bright lights, and murals of Santa Claus on the sides and the end combining Santa with Coca Cola logos. The idea was to have the caravan of trucks parading through small town America.

Hey guys, I’m Logan the 64th Gear Jammer Skeele, the founder of Advantage Diecast and obviously I’m not in the Southside Warehouse today.
I’m early for my flight so I’ve got the entire TWA First Class Lounge all to myself for a little while. This works out great for me as I wanted to talk about a Jet Fuel Tanker and look, there it comes to fuel up that Boeing 707 sitting right outside.
Talk about great timing, the truck I want to talk about is pulling under the wing right now.
While I’m at the airport as I speak, I’ll bet that you have undoubtedly been to an airport or watched a movie and seen tank trucks parked under the wings of the big planes. And there hoses attached to the bottom of the wings. Of course, you know they are fueling the plane.
It’s interesting to watch, but I must move on because the other passengers will be arriving shortly.

America’s Favorite Brew
It first began in the 19th century. During the mid-1800’s German immigrants settled in St. Louis, they brought along with them an industry that would have a big impact on America. They introduced lager beer.
In 1843, a soap maker Eberhard Anheuser migrated to St. Louis Missouri. With no experience in brewing, he became part owner of the Bavarian, in 1860 he bought out investors in the brewery. He changed the name to Anheuser & Co.
Adolphus Busch arrived in the united states as an immigrant from Germany in 1857. By 1861 he met and married Lilly Anheuser. After serving in the union army during the Civil War. Adolphus Busch went to work in his father in-law’s brewery. Slowly, he brewed and built a brand name beer that would become the most iconic brand in the nation.
The introduction of lager beer to the United States by Adolphus Busch during the mid-19th century forever changed the landscape of brewing beer from small neighborhood breweries, to a large industry that it is today.
Budweiser was introduced to the united states in 1876, when the E. Anheuser Brewing Association of St. Louis, Missouri, introduced Budweiser Lager Beer.

The company patented the concept in 1969, and credits much of its popularity to its adoption by the haulier industry'
Today over 80% of Europe’s truck trailers are Tautliners.
America lagged behind Europe in developing and adopting tautliner or curtain side trailers by many years.

RAKERS were the first official garbage men. Their job was to rake up the trash into a cart. It was a dangerous and a filthy job. Rakers had a high mortality rate from illness.

After a harrowing flight, you should have been there. It was really exciting. I finally got to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Fire Station 3, where I'm going to talk about one of their ladder trucks and the LA Fire Department.
Founded in 1781, Los Angeles began as a small pueblo under the auspices of the King of Spain and flourished as a farming and agricultural community. Buildings were constructed primarily of adobe and tile, but the storage of hay created hazardous conditions.
In response to fires, neighbors would rush to assist by forming "volunteer bucket brigades." These brigades, using leather buckets, worked until the fire was extinguished.

Did you ever wonder where and when the saying “Built like a Mack truck came from?” As you know Mack truck trademark is a bulldog. In 1917 during WWI, Mack trucks earned its nickname when the British government purchased 6000 Mack AC model trucks to supply its front line with troops, food and equipment. The British soldiers were so impressed by the Mack trucks they dubbed the trucks, “the Bulldog Mack.” Its pugnacious, blunt-nosed hood, coupled with its incredible durability, reminded the soldiers of the tenacious qualities of their country's mascot, the British Bulldog. So, it was only natural for British soldiers to name the American trucks, “the Bulldog Mack”.
But when did the Bulldog first appear as a hood ornament on every Mack truck built? In 1932 Mack's chief engineer Alfred Fellows Masury carved Mack's first bulldog hood ornament while recuperating from an operation. Masury applied for and receives a U.S. patent for his design; the bulldog hood ornament has adorned every Mack truck ever since.

The west coast has brought us some of the largest and most famous trucking companies. Pacific Intermountain Express comes to mind right off the bat. But many others were running on Highway 1 California like West Coast Fast Freight Inc.
West Coast Fast Freight was formed at the end of World War II. From a small beginning, it rapidly grew through acquisition, and dedicated service.
Innovation was another area West Coast used to stay ahead of the competition. One such experimental truck was built by Kenworth and powered by Boeing.

Mack Trucks, is there any more iconic east coast manufacturer?
I thought it’d be fun today to talk a little on Mack trucks of the 1960s.
Mack Trucks was in its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s. Course these two decades were tremendous with growth and expansion in America as we had put the men from WWII back to work here and the Space Race.
But many changes headed Mack’s way were to happen in the 1960s. Like the discontinuing of the famous B-Model.

A truck camper is any RV that can be carried on or in the bed of a pickup truck. The first type of RV is the Camper shell, the second is the slide-in camper. Especially in the 1960s, the slide in truck campers made up a substantial part of the RV market, but their popularity faded as other RVs emerged, especially conversion van-based Rvs. Those van-based Rvs soon took over the market. Van RV's offered more room and could be used for many other purposes. But the truck camper’s versatility remained unmatched as the slide in camper could be easily dismounted and leaving all the versatility of a conventional pickup truck.
I thought it might be fun and interesting to look at two Greenlight offerings of slide in campers, and the legendary pick up truck's that carried them. The 1967 Dodge Winnebago Camper and the 1968 Chevy C10 Silver Streak Camper. In each case I will first discuss the truck and then I will talk about the camper.

J.W. Ringsby better known as Bill founded Ringsby Freight System in 1928 with 1 truck, a REO Speedwagon. He first started hauling coal around Denver Colorado.
From these humble beginnings the line grew in scope and size. Much of the company’s growth was attributed to numerous acquisitions. The ICC or Interstate Commerce Commission regulations of the time made acquiring new territory very hard and expensive, so rather than go the hard route most carriers just purchased their competition to get into their territory.
At their peak, Ringsby operated 43 terminals in 26 states. And By 1981 the fleet had grown to over 6,000 trucks.

Little Audrey’s Transportation was started in the late 1940s. It was after the war and Refrigerated van trailers were just coming into their own and Little Audrey’s was one of the first to jump and focus on Refrigerated Freight.
This was a huge turning point in freight. Cold freight was no longer limited to distance between ice houses where the trailers would be iced down. And as you know with ice and warm temperatures it melts. Now in the winter with below freezing this wasn’t a problem, but the rest of the year it was a big big problem for moving cold loads and pretty much just forget moving frozen loads.
The founders at Little Audrey’s saw this as the future of trucking and incorporated their company in New Mexico but headquartered it in a tiny hole in the wall office in Fremont Nebraska. That little office only had a couple of dispatchers and office staff needed for sales and paperwork. Their office was just a converted 2 bedroom house on a big lot that was paved so trucks could pull in and park. I’ll bet the neighbors just loved that.
The legend goes, Little Audrey’s was named after one of the founder’s wives’ name. Probably some truth in that as not many trucking companies were named after women back in those days. There were a few, but not many.

I know most of us truck collectors want the fancy show trucks. I get it, but really how many of those fancy show trucks do you ever see on the highways?
Fleet trucks really are the norm out there and our collections should reflect that.
I have made several custom trucks with these blanks. Like a custom of a friends Schneider tractor. Or a custom UpStage Lighting & Rigging truck for Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour. But what would you do with blank trucks?

Who was a fan of tv show Ice Road Truckers?
From the show we got several versions of Carlile Transportation trucks out of Anchorage Alaska. And those were the only trucks produced that were seen on camera.
However, they are not the only trucks with ties to the show to have models made.
A model of Maya Pyskaty’s custom restored Peterbilt 379 was produced by DCP by First Gear as the second release of the “Big Rigs” series. This was not a truck from the show, but Maya Pyskaty was featured in season 5 of the popular TV show. Giving this model a tie-in to the show. After her stint on the show she went back home to work in her family’s business “Pyskaty Bros.” in New Jersey. Here she spends most of the year on local hauls. She prefers over-the-road driving though in her custom show truck. A project truck that Pyskaty restored herself. It is a 1997 Peterbilt 379 name “34” after Maya’s lucky number. The truck features a custom-made wood floor from Germany, a three-stage frame paint job in Maya’s signature color purple and lots of stainless steel RoadWorks accessories.

Ron Kelsey started driving trucks in 1977. He purchased his first and only truck in August of 1984. The Peterbilt Model 359 became the only truck he would ever need and is still driving it today. In 1990, Ron had it painted in an orange and yellow paint scheme and it became the "Sunrise Express.”
By the mid-90s Ron Kelsey’s Sunrise Express received a major upgrade. Ron took out the BC400 Cummins Engine and replaced it with an 800 horsepower 3406E Caterpillar diesel.
14 years later and Ron had a shiny new coat of paint applied and the ghost flames joined the “Sunrise Express” paint scheme. As the years went by, Ron kept finding upgrades for the truck. In December of 2017, Ron wanted a longer wheelbase, so he had the frame stretched out to 301 inch. In 2018 Ron boosted the transmission from a 6-speed with 4-speed auxiliary to a 10-speed with a 4-speed auxiliary.
As it rolls down the highway today it has a 10 x 4 transmission, 336 Eaton rearends, and the CAT 3406E from 1994 for a drivetrain.
Ron has been customizing his ride for the past 35 years and it’s never gotten old.

Have you ever heard of International Transport Inc?
International Transport was based out of Rochester Minnesota and was comprised of owner-operators. Drivers were required to paint their trucks in the famous Yellow and Green paint scheme. Trucks traveled throughout the United States and Canada.
International Transport was another victim of the late 1970s deregulation. Schneider Transport bought them out and phased out the name and paint scheme.
Fitting for International Transport, Neo Scale Models to use a 1964 International Harvester DCOF-405 Emeryville to replicate one of the famous yellow and green International Transport trucks for today’s product review. The 1964 Emeryville is a 1:64th scale truck model.

When you think of Peterbilt 351 do you think of the movie Duel? The original truck was a Peterbilt 281 but a 351 was used to make new scenes for the theatrical release. However, that isn’t the only movie that used a Pete 351.
Other movies included Waterworld, Shoot ‘Em Up, The Invaders, Chastity, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Road Movie, Breaker! Breaker!, Timber Tramps, and a few others.
The 351 was a fan favorite in the movies for years and probably will make more appearances in films in the future!
But this video isn’t about any of them. This video is a review of a neo scale models 1961 Peterbilt 351 day cab in blue with yellow stripes and yellow frame for Miller & Young Cargo Lines.
This, this is a 1961 Peterbilt 351 needle nose day cab tandem-axle tractor. 351s were dual drives. They were basically the same as the 281, but the 281, in a tandem configuration only had one drive axle and a tag axle. 351s had drive axles on both tandems.

I went to explore an old mansion on one dark Halloween night. The night was stormy, with rain, thunder, and lightning. I had heard that something unusual had been reported happening in this particular mansion. Nothing like a murder. More like something supernatural. I wanted to see for myself. You know curiosity or something like that.

Mack Trucks are there any better from the East?
The recognized leader of the transportation industry since its inception in 1953, the Mack b model is one of the most common sights along our highways and byways. The first one rolled off the line on May 23, 1953. Production ran for 13 continuous years, terminating on April 28, 1966. In that time span, a total of 124,847 units were manufactured. In addition, there were 2,939 forward control fire engines and CKD units produced, making a grand total of 127,786 vehicles.
The B model featured the “million-mile” cab, with its unitized construction and four-point diamond mounting for maximum driver comfort and safety. In addition, the B models helped prove the feasibility and practicality of diesel powerplants for modern day trucking needs. Not only were they widely used for over-the-road hauling, but for many construction applications as well. In fact, B models hauled most everything, from soft drinks to gigantic oil field rigs.
The B model was offered in a rare for the time period integral sleeper. This option was popular with drivers from the South and hard to find examples of them today. Being popular with the south makes the Neo replica very authentic since it is for a trucking company based out of Atlanta Georgia.

California. Yes. I said California, I know it’s not popular but hear me out. California runs some pretty neat trucks and equipment not seen in our parts of the country.
The agricultural areas are often too hard or impossible to get our big 45’ foot grain trailers in or 48’ flatbeds in. So, California came up with a solution. They use doubles instead.

I supposed that everyone that has owned or driven a car has a tale to tell about the car. Usually it is about a good or bad driving experience.
I have a sinister, tale about a car named Christine. Christine is, that’s right, I said IS, because Christine may still exist today.
Christine is a RED 1958 Plymouth Fury. She came down the assembly line amid a string of yellow 1958 Plymouth Furies.
She was different in color, but other than that she was the same as the yellow furies that came down the line before and after Christine. No one paid any attention to Christine’s color and assembled her the same way as the other cars. But...............
Christine turned out to be pure evil. You might say possessed by the supernatural. Christine, you see, was approved by the devil himself.
Steven King wrote the story about Christine. John Carpenter brought her to life on the Silver screen. John Carpenter’s Christine is classed as a supernatural horror film. Steven King’s Christine is a 1983 classic horror novel.

Never as popular as Ford's C-series tilt cab, its main competitor, GMC's L series steel tilt cab managed to stay in production from 1960 to 1981. Over the 21-year production run only some minor cosmetic changes occurred.
As the GMC Truck Brochure says:
“GMC’s 72-inch Tilt has virtues all its own. The cab tilts for easy general maintenance-less down time. The cab’s tilting mechanism is positive and tamper proof. Another fleet truck today, this time is DCP by First Gear’s Kenworth T680 for Menke Trucking from Leavenworth Indiana.
Any of you ever heard of Menke before?
Menke Trucking was founded in 2007 with just one truck and one driver by the current CEO Craig Menke. Menke hauled stone and aggregate material for a local quarry. By 2010 Menke Trucking had purchased additional trucks and began to transition from local dump trucking to over the road trucking.
In 2012 Menke acquired their current terminal in Leavenworth Indiana and today has a growing fleet of over 50 trucks and 90 trailers. Menke Trucking’s fleet of tractors is composed of Kenworth T680s for driver comfort, fuel savings, and productivity.
Diecast Promotions made the toolings and DCP by First Gear released the Menke Trucking version.

When I lived on a farm, FALL was my favorite time of year. It was corn harvest time! And since its Fall now, and corn harvest is going on acrossed America, I thought I should talk about corn and the machines that harvest corn, in particular the corn picker. The corn picker has taken many forms over the years. It was first thought of in 1850. The corn picker has evolved to today’s modern machines for picking and processing corn. Most farmers take these modern machines for granted. These machines can pick and process many acres of corn per day, however, that was not the case before 1850. Back then, corn was hand-picked, hand husked, and the kernels of corn removed by hand. It was tough work and there were some tools to help but it was still a difficult process.

What would you do if you had a huge tractor and that every time you stopped in front of your barn the hood slid off and landed on the ground in front of the barn? No joke, I talked to a couple that had just that tractor. I am going to relate that story to you but first I must tell you a back story.

Howard Johnson was founded by Howard Deering Johnson in 1925. When he borrowed $2,000 to buy a corner pharmacy in Massachusetts, his loan was repaid quickly after he installed a soda fountain in his drug store.
Eager to ensure that his business remained profitable. He devised a new ice cream recipe that made the ice cream more flavorful due to the increased butterfat content. Eventually Johnson created 28 flavors of ice cream.

Farm toys in 1:64th scale are dominated by Ertl with SpecCast taking a small chunk of the premium market. But times are changing with Greenlight upping the detail with bargain pricing. Ford tractors, which are totally underrepresented in the market these days are dominate with other generic tractors are their forte. But the coolest piece they came out with is the Bale Throw Wagon based on the 16 foot E-Z Trail Bale Throw Wagon.
This is Down on the Farm Series 4 by Greenlight Collectibles, a set of six 1:64th scale farm vehicles. Five of them are diecast farm tractors, and one of them is an implement. They added two new tooling parts to these guys. I also went on and took them out of the package, cause you guys asked to see vehicles out of the package. And since I'm keeping a set of these tractors for my layout, I decided to go on and open this one up for you.

I’m Logan, the 64th Gear Jammer Skeele. This is toy talk.
I've got yet another review today. It's a DCP by First Gear, Freightliner Cascadia with dry van trailer for GP Transco.
GP Transco was founded on June 28th, 2006 as GP Transportation Company in Darien, Illinois. It was founded by Gedas Poviliunas while he was still a college major in finance. He is the current president of the company.
Today GP Transco is one of the fastest growing trucking companies in the industry. Their fleet consists of 400 tractors and over 550 dry van trailers.
They keep the tractors no longer than three years and their fleet consists of Volvo, Peterbilt, and Freightliner trucks, just like the one that First Gear made. Their fleet provides transportation services to all 48 contiguous US States and to Canada.
In 2018, GP Transco transported over 2.5 billion pounds of cargo while their trucks drove over 35 million miles. They did it while delivering over 25,000 loads. That’s impressive for a trucking company.
Other companies under the GP Transco umbrella are OpenRoad TMS, GP Transco Logistics, and Truck RX.
Now let's go on and look at this First Gear piece that they made in these beautiful colors.
This is the DCP by First Gear, 2018 Freightliner Cascadia, the redesigned Cascadia, with 53’ dry van for GP Transco. This is a beautiful paint job for a fleet truck.

Several years ago, I went to South Bend Indiana on a work trip at my old job. Part of the itinerary included visiting the Studebaker Museum and the American Historical Truck Society’s National Convention and Truck Show event at the St. Joseph County 4-H Fairgrounds.
The Studebaker Museum was amazing, and their collection was impressive, but the best part of the trip was seeing all the vintage semi-trucks at the big show. There were classics from the 1910s all the way to the 1990s on display.
The biggest attraction though was inside a building. There were not just one, but two General Motors Futurliners. One of them was fully restored and the other was in need of a restore.
These machines were just mammoth in size. The fully restored one was opened up with an exhibit from the National Auto and Truck Museum of Auburn Indiana who owns Futurliner #10.
Let’s take a trip through time to see why this marvelous machine was made.
Dialing the clock back to May 27, 1933 to be exact, Chicago celebrated their “CENTURY OF PROGRESS” by hosting the Chicago World’s Fair.
The main objectives of the Chicago World's Fair were to highlight finished products, demonstrate how products were made, and show people how science works. After all, this was an exciting time of discovery in America. The motor car was being perfected. Air travel was just taking off, and many other advancements in science and industry were happening despite the depression.
In the General Motors Pavilion, General Motors demonstrated how Sound Stops Sound, cooking on a Magnetic Stove, a Photo Elastic Stress Study and Music on a Light Beam.
But GM's most important exhibit was a FULLY functioning Chevrolet production line. This exhibit was intended to show the contributions factories were making to modern society. Incidentally, attendees at the fair could purchase a Chevrolet car right off the line.
Charles Kettering, GMs vice president in charge of research was inspired with the reception GM received with their exhibits and developed the idea to take GM on the road. The GM "Parade of Progress" road show was the result. The show toured throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and even Cuba from 1936 to 1956 only stopping during WWII. The Parade of Progress played to millions of people, showing them working examples of modern innovations that would make people’s lives easier and better.
Kettering’s, Parade of Progress was like a “World’s Fair on Wheels” that traveled from town to town in large red and white streamlined trucks. When the vehicles arrived in a small town, they would a park where a large tent could be erected, and the displays would be open to the public free-of-charge.
On display were jet engines, microwave ovens, and sound waves that traveled on a flashlight beam. The Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild Competition staged an automotive design contest in which teenagers competed for college scholarships by designing and building scale model “dream cars”. The winners were then showcased in continuing The Parade of Progress.

This model I'm going to review today was made to commemorate the launch of the completely redesigned 2020 Chevrolet Corvette.
The 2020 Corvette was the most radical redesign in 67 years. It finally moved the engine from the front to midship, giving a much better weight distribution for performance and handling.

The first “Dream car” appeared in 1938 when the Buick Y-Job was shown to the public. Concept cars have always been with us but in the 1950s Harley Earl, a General Motors vehicle designer, invented the idea of the “concept car,” a car or truck of futuristic design. He wanted to obtain customer reaction to a new and radical exterior design and new interior innovations. As you know these exceptional cars and trucks are shown annually at special car and truck shows, like the Detroit Auto Show. Most, if not all of these vehicles were never to be mass-produced.
Firebird One looked very much like a jet fighter plane only it had four wheels and was confined to the ground. Firebird One could only seat the driver in his “Jet-Like Cockpit.”
Norev made a 1:64th scale diecast version of Firebird I. Being 1:64th scale it is pretty tiny, but they did a great job replicating Firebird I It has a die-cast body and some plastic ancillary parts. It also rides on soft rubber tires. The cockpit canopy shows off the single seat. And at the back, you can see the jet turbine. They did a pretty nice job making Firebird One
Firebird Two looked more like a normal car only it possessed a somewhat more radical design. The air intakes protruded in the car front and looked like aviation weapons. This Firebird could seat four people in bucket seats.
Norev also made a 1:64thscale diecast version of Firebird II to go along with their Firebird I It shows off the, a bubble canopy with the four seats inside. Pretty nice design. It has soft rubber tires on free rolling wheels. You can also see the two intakes which do look like aviation weapons. Then on the back, you can see the dual turbine exhaust, great design and a great model of it.
Firebird Three was perhaps the largest of the three Firebird's. Imagine a two-passenger car with two “cockpit bubble” covers keeping the passengers separate.
Norev made a 1:64thscale diecast car model of Firebird III to complete the set of Firebird vehicles. The tires are all are soft rubber, and they roll pretty nicely. And this one shows off that really neat design feature, the double bubble cockpit, also the great winglets and wings that they put on the design.
And that makes the set of three GM Firebird vehicles that no rev madeas diecast cars for us collectors to have a complete set of Firebird 1:64thscale cars

Peterbilt and cab over trucks really went hand in hand for decades. They began making a cab over back in 1949 and have come a long way to get to the Model 372, which was the last “Line-Haul” cab over truck designed by Peterbilt with production ending before its predecessor, the 362. The 372 went out in 1994 and the 362 ended production in 2005 eliminating “line-haul” cabover trucks from Peterbilt’s lineup.
A side Note, Pete still makes low cab forward COEs for vocational and city delivery trucks today.
However, today I’m talking about the Model 352 which came on in 1959 and was the first Tilt-Cab COE by Peterbilt. It was also the first UniLite cab and with an update in 1969, it received the nickname “Pacemaker”.

Today I’ve got a product review on a classic Cab Over truck from the 80s. It’s the 1983 Ford CLT9000 COE by Neo Scale Models in 64th Scale.
The Ford CLT-9000 coe was a line-haul cab-over semi-tractor that came out in the 70s and was produced well into the 80s. It was often nicknamed the 2-Story Ford due to its height. Though this height was a design benefit as it allowed a low doghouse over the engine so that you could layout across the seats or have easy entry into the sleeper.

Today's podcast will focus on the development of American AIR - SEA Search, Rescue and Recovery Vehicles.
Since America decided there landing site would be somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, America turned to the US Navy. The Navy used aircraft carriers, helicopters, other ships and vehicles for search and recovery.
Aircraft carrier-based helicopters played a major role in the extraction of the astronauts from the sea. With the help of Navy divers, the helicopters were able to lift the astronauts from their spacecraft to the helicopter and carry them back to the aircraft carrier.
A second helicopter plucked the spacecraft from the sea and carried it to the carrier.

Back to Greenlight today for another review of an older release. I've already talked about the SD trucks Series 8, which is the latest release. You can watch that video over here.

This is SD Trucks Series 6 by Greenlight. I know this is an older release for them because they've already got Series 8 out, however, this one is still very worthy of a product review as it is the very first release that we got of the Mack Granite dump truck. Also, it has the first release of their Mack Anthem highway truck, and the first release of their Mack LR refuse truck.
So, we actually got three, all new toolings in this set. This made a big departure from the previous SD trucks as they were all Internationals and none of them were road tractors.
S-D Trucks series 8 is a set of 3 diecast trucks. They are 64thscale trucks all with the Mack Bulldog hood ornaments.
Series 8 then this brought out the first road tractor. It also brought out the first dump truck and the first garbage truck. So, these here were amazing sets because they had so many new pieces to this set.

The launch of Sputnik 1, on October 4th, 1957 began the space race between the Americans and the Russians. The Americans decided to bring back their astronaut manned spacecraft by splashing the craft into the sea. While the Russians decided to bring their cosmonaut manned craft down for a hard landing on dry land.
Each country had to retrieve their men and spacecrafts. As such, the use of military-grade hardware became a common occurrence in these endeavors. America used AIR SEA rescue and recovery vehicles while the Russians had to develop AIR LAND rescue and recovery vehicles.
In the 1960s, the Soviet space program developed the Soyuz series of spacecraft. Part of the capsule’s design was to provide for the occupants and cargo to have as much internal space as possible, which resulted in a spherical design. Therefore, the capsule’s shape offered virtually no control over trajectory once re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere had begun.
That meant that where the Soyuz capsule would ultimately land was really anyone’s guess.
The use of air support and ground recovery and rescue vehicles were required.
This podcast will focus on the development of Russian all terrain land vehicles, the ZiL PEU 1, ZiL PEU 2, and the ZiL Bluebird 4906.

Product reviews are what it’s all about today and I’ve got a review of the latest International FleetStar truck released by Neo Scale Models in 1:64th Scale.
The International FleetStar family of trucks was touted as the Finest Truck Family of All. There were A variants which were available with all-International gasoline or diesel power. These A versions had 7 models to choose from in single or tandem axle configurations with gross vehicle ratings up to 54,000 pounds. The A’s also had a choice of a steel butterfly hood or a fiberglass tilt-hood.
The Neo 1:64th scale International truck version I’m going to talk about today is a D variant. The D’s were all-diesels and offered big displacement power in either a single or tandem axle configuration. There were only 2 models available in the D variants, each with the same 92-inch bumper to back of cab conventional design. The power was one of 6 popular Cummins and Detroit engines giving the D versions a gross combined weight rating up to 79,000 pounds of those heavy highway applications.
This is the Neo Scale Models 1:64th scale International FleetStar F-2000-D. It is a 1963 model year, and it is painted in black with silver roof on it.
To take this guy off of the base plate. It's just two Phillips head screws underneath. That's all that is holding it down. However, when you're doing this, please make sure you hold between the frame and the base plate. Neo Scale Models solved the problem of the fragility of the original 1:64th scale trucks that were made in resin because they decided to use a die-cast frame instead of the junkie resin frame that the other manufacturer used. So these come out to be a very good, very sturdy model that will really enhance your collection, especially with the limited nature of them. They only make a couple of thousand max of any tooling.
This truck has a fifth wheel that's set up for DCP/First Gear vintage trailers with the straight kingpin. It's got a license plate and two brake lights. Oh, another note it's got the airlines and the electrical lines there.
I have not heard about Crosby Motor Freight Company, but I'm sure it was a real one because every single one of the trucks so far that Neo has done has been based on a real truck that they found somewhere.

Okay. Neo, they made these trucks in 1:64th scale and they don't come with trailers. However, thanks to DCP making vintage trailers and Top Shelf Replicas having made vintage trailers. We got plenty of trailers to hitch up to these vintage trucks. And to show you what it looks like with a trailer I'm going to go on and hook it up with one of the Wilson livestock trailers that Top Shelf Replicas made.
This Neo Scale Models International truck would look great. Sitting on your layout, pulling one of these old trailers, or it would look great sitting in its display box on your shelves.

No, you don't need to go and check your calendar today really is Tuesday. It's not Thursday. And I bet you're wondering why I'm putting up a episode on Saturday. Well, I'm going to start a new feature here at Toy Talk and that is product reviews.
I'm going to put up a episode on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and these two days are going to be dedicated to product reviews of all things diecast and resin. We're talking about reviewing models of cars, trucks, construction, airplanes and farm equipment. And pretty much anything else, resin or diecast.
I'm leaving Thursdays to be the more informational episodes. That's where we're going to talk about the histories of the model manufacturers, model making techniques and other related content of that type. So Thursdays will still be pretty much the way they are. I'm just adding product reviews on Saturdays and Tuesdays.
By now, I'm sure all of you have heard that Greenlight has come out with farm equipment and they jumped in headfirst by making all new toolings of stuff that hadn't been done before. They did a great job making items with lots of detail. And at a good price point.
Hey guys, what I've got here is the Down on the Farm Series 2, the complete set of six farm tractors. Well, this series actually only has five tractors, and it has Greenlight's first implement they've ever made. Now this set is pretty cool. It has two versions of the Ford 8N casting, two versions of the Ford 5610 casting. It has their brand new implement and it has one version of the 3488 tractor.

Kit models before plastics were available, were made out of wood and not always did they even come with the wood. Sometimes they were just plans, and you had to supply your own wood with the advent of plastics though, and the use of the injection molding machine, model kits turned quickly to plastic and they were using cellulose acetate as that was one of the earliest plastics that was available for them.

Today I’ve got another product review for you. This time it’s a 64thscale Kenworth K100 with two Wabash pups for ICX or under its official name “Illinois California eXpress” of Denver Colorado.
ICX was an LTL company out of Denver CO. It was founded in 1936 and ran for decades until deregulation of the late 1970s forced them into bankruptcy in 1984. The deregulation pretty much bankrupted all the LTL and union trucking companies and came up with a whole new system that we use today.

I'm back with another product review. This is a brand new item just out from First Gear Replicas in 1:64th scale. It's the T-L Center Pivot Irrigation system. It is a center pivot irrigation system section and it comes with a base unit. This is an absolutely beautiful model. It belongs on any farm toy collection or farm toy diorama because who doesn't irrigate their crops. You need irrigation to make those grain crops grow well, and this will really fit the bill.

Today we are going to talk about assembling our model. Yay! We have already discussed making all of our parts and packaging. Now we have to put all those parts together.
Assembly is the most labor-intensive part of model making. The different parts require different methods of assembly. The model passes through many hands before it is finished.
Large production run models are built along a movable assembly line, much like real cars. The first station would assemble the body of the model and put it on the moving belt to the next station. At the next station another part would be added and then sent on down the line and so on. This would be repeated with as many parts as necessary to complete the model. Once the model is complete it is sent on down the line to the packaging station where it would be put in whatever type of packaging was chosen for this particular model, packed in a shipping carton and sent off to the warehouse to await shipment to distributors or retailers.
Another way models are assembled is a system where each station puts its parts on in turn, but instead of the movable belt bringing the next model to the station, the person puts parts on many models, packs them in trays, and then the trays of partially assembled models are carried on down to the next station and the process continues this way until the finished model is done and put in a shipping carton. This method is more labor intensive and used on much smaller production runs.
The last assembly method is reserved for the most limited of production runs. This method is where all the parts are at one station and one person assembles the complete model. Each set of parts would be laid out in order that they go on the model and the skilled model builder would then put each part on by hand. Once all the parts were put on, the model would be packed in its packaging and then sent to the warehouse. This is the slowest method to build a model.
Each method of assembly is viable and has its merits. The choice of assembly type is primarily based on the number of units to make. The movable belt being the fastest method and used with the largest production runs.

Today, we will talk about manufacturing blister packs, hardboard boxes, cardboard cartons, window sleeves, & plastic display cases.
Whatever cardboard box, blister, plastic display case, or window sleeve or box is used must be decided before assembly can begin. Artwork & shipping instructions must be printed on the packaging & the shipping cartons. You might say packaging is as important as the assembled models.
Afterall what good is a detailed model if you can’t get it from the factory to the customers hands?
We now have all the parts painted & ready for assembly. Our packaging is waiting at the end of the assembly line.
Now we are finally ready to begin assembly & we will discuss that in part 7 on next Thursday.

Today, we talked about manufacturing headlights, taillights, marker lights & light bars. We covered how they are made & colored. For mass produced models of cars & trucks the plastic injection machine is used. Headlights & taillights are often injected & cast as one part.
For more expensive models, lights are cast as individual parts & placed on the model by hand during final assembly.
Light bars are usually made of clear plastic. The red & blue color is painted on by skilled painters. Finally, we ended our conversation by touching briefly on illumination of headlights, taillights, marker lights, signal lights, & light bars. RC cars & trucks provide the best examples.
Lights add realism to any model & make the model come alive.

To summarize we have learned about the two processes used to make model car and truck windows. For mass produced models of cars and trucks the plastic injection machine is used. Usually they are injected and cast as one part. For more expensive models having limited runs the vacuum forming process is used to make the windows.

In this video series we talked about the process used to make one diecast metal car or truck.
Let’s begin our discussion on how wheels and tires are made. In mass productions the wheels and tires are molded on a plastic injection machine.
Mass produced model cars and trucks have their wheels and tires as part of the plastic cast. Most of the inexpensive diecast cars and trucks use this kind of tire and wheel combination. Plastic tires are standard on Hot Wheels models. Also Ertl Trucks of the World series trucks used plastic wheels and tires. The mold has the wheel and tire carved into the mold. Therefore, the wheel and tire come out of the mold as one cast. This is the least expensive way to make a wheel and tire for a diecast model vehicle. It is cost effective because it removes one step in the assembly process.
Other more expensive cars and trucks require a separate wheel and tire. Most common are plastic wheels and rubber tires.
To make plastic wheels the molten plastic is injection into a multi cavity mold. If the wheels need to be painted, they are sent to the air brush department.
If chrome or gold plating is required the wheels are put through the Vacuum Metalizing Process. If you will remember from my last video the Vacuum Metalizing Process is a process where metal is heated in a vacuum chamber and then vaporized, The vaporized metal is plated on the lacquered wheels. And presto! The wheels are chrome or gold plated.
The tires are made much like the wheels in a plastic injection machine. The tire mold has many cavities thereby allowing several tires to be made at one time.
A rubber like material is injected into the mold. When the tires are cured they are ejected from the mold and dropped into a bin. If nothing further is to be done to the tire they are sent to storage or assembly.
However, if a name is required on the tire, they are sent to the pad printing department where each tire receives its name.
Just think what a run of 1,000 18 wheel tractor trailer requires. 5,000 axles, 18,000 wheels and 18,000 tires not counting spare wheels and tires. Each wheel and tire assembly have to be assembled by hand or with the aid of a machine.
Its little wonder the inexpensive cars and trucks have their wheels and tires cast as one part. This method saves time and time is money.
A word for the hobbyist who wants to restore a model that has lost a wheel and tire. Individual wheels can be resin cast by making a silicone mold of the wheel and casting it out of resin. The tire can be made the same way by making a silicone mold of an existing tire and casting the tire out of a urethane rubber liquid.
Summary We have covered the machines needed to make one diecast car or truck. They ranged from a CNC mold cutting machine, plastic injection machine, pad printer, and vacuum chamber to plate our wheels. To name a few. We're slowly getting the idea that many people and skills are involved in creating one model car or truck.

In Part two of our series we will talk about the plastic parts that are needed for our model. Today, there are not many 100% diecast metal model vehicles made today.
First comes the idea of the car or we want to make. Then we need a computer. 3d scanner. A rapid protype machine such as a 3D printer, a CNC machine. A heat treating machine, an electric furnace to melt the metal. A High pressure diecasting machine. A machine to remove sharp edges and smooth the castings. A spray booth. A airbrush and needed equipment. A pad printing machine. And the necessary people to operate the various machines. What's next? A plastic injection machine, and a large vacuum chamber, and more molds.
We have a fully painted and detailed diecast shell of a car. Now we need to make the plastic parts. These parts include the under carriage, place to mount the axles, parts to be chromed or gold plated such as bumpers wheels and other parts to name a few.
Now we have to add to our growing list of machines a Plastic Injection machine. A plastic injection machine works similar to the High Pressure Hot metal injection machine. The plastic is heated to a molten state and forced under pressure into the steel mold.
In the plastic injection process, the parts of the molds are pressed together with a hydraulic ram and the molten plastic is injected into the molds through the sprues under pressure. The mold is cooled and opened, and the part is ejected. The mold closes and the cycle is repeated until all the needed parts have been produced. The parts are attached to a sprue much like the metal diecast parts.
Now, what’s a sprue? For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term a sprue is a channel through which metal or plastic is poured or injected into a mold.
The next thing that happens to the parts are removed and separated into bins. The parts that need no paint will remain as they are. Into the second bin goes the parts that need to be painted. Into the third bin goes the parts that need to be chrome or gold plated.
The plating is done by a process known as the Vacuum Metalizing Process.
What is this process? Vacuum metalizing plastic is a process that allows you to create a layer of metal on a substrate, usually of another material. It involves heating the metal coating material inside a vacuum chamber until it vaporizes. The lack of pressure in this chamber drives the metal’s boiling point downward. This allows the metal vapor to condensate and form a layer over the top of a substrate of your choice.

In this episode of Toy Talk, I am discussing diecasting and the production of a scale model car or truck.
What diecasting is. How it is used in model making. Why it so expensive. And why is it slowly becoming cost prohibitive in making model trucks and cars.
Before we start, this is a complicated subject and I will break up in several videos so stay tuned. This video will cover briefly diecasting a model from the raw metal to the finished product. The next videos will cover the stages of productions and tools used in mold making.
“Die casting is a metal casting process that is characterized by forcing molten metal under high pressure into a metal mold cavity. The mold cavity is created using two or more hardened tool steel dies which have been machined into shape and work. Diecasting is really an injection mold process. Die casting – Wikipedia”
The diecast process:
The mold or die is placed in a machine. A hydraulic ram closes the mold compressing the die. Then molten metal is forced into the die. Then the die is cooled. The die is opened, and the part is dropped out. The cycle repeats itself until the desired number or parts have been produced.
An airbrush is a small, air-operated tool that sprays various media, most often paint but also ink and dye, and foundation by a process of nebulization. Or more simply put, reducing the liquid media to a very fine spray.
Mass produced models are hung individually on a tree or other device. Next, they enter into a spray booth where the receive their coat of paint either robotically or by hand. Then the parts go off to an oven to bake the paint on. After the paint has dried the model is then placed in a restraining device and is ready for the pad printer, or silk screen process. In this case our model car is headed for the pad printer.
Now the model is complete.
Did I say complete? OOPS! I was premature. What about the plastic parts? What about the chrome bumpers and wheels? Wait what about tires? Were out of time in this video. So, stay tuned! I will answer these questions in my next video.

What does a “dream” collection mean to you? To me a “dream” collection may have many items in the collection but may not be really interesting. By this I mean the collection is very much like other collections each having many of the same items. Therefore, not really interesting to the viewer and doesn’t garner attention.
To me a “dream” collection that is interesting has, regardless of scale, one or more related items to the collection that stand out and become the highlight of the collection that people want to come to see. These items usually are unique, hard to find, but not necessarily one of a kind. They are items that are something out of the ordinary. Not seen in every collection.
Regardless of the kind of items in your “dream” collection you probably want to show them off to your friends and neighbors. You worked hard and spent money to make your collection perfect. You probably built a room or have glass shelves to show off your collection.
You will want the viewers to rave about your collection garnering you that regional or world-wide recognition that you deserve. But you feel that after your friends have seen your collection, they have a ho hum attitude. For example, the attitude of the viewer might take “if you have seen one collection of trucks you have seen them all”. They will say it is nice and other kind things but you will feel let down.

This is the origin of Advantage Diecast and how I decided to stop putting up with mediocre models being produced by manufacturers. So I stood up to them and said "Hey I can do better than you" and started making my own model trucks.
