Sanitree
Sanitree is a student-led social enterprise based in Edinburgh and Jaipur which aims to fight period poverty and the stigma surrounding menstruation through the production and sale of reusable sanitary pads! In this podcast, we'll be discussing all things menstrual and more with great guests, ranging from artists to academics to activists!
In this episode of Menstrual Musings, Erin and Ella had the absolute privilege of chatting with lead singer of The Menstrual Cramps, Emilia, about their inspirations and personal motivations behind their music. Emilia describes the band as queer punk - as a voice for the Others within our current political climate. The band is unapologetically vocal about what exactly it is that makes them angry, and why we should all use our voices for change.

In this episode Ella and Erin interview two university students, Emily and Alex, about their experiences being diagnosed and treated for endometriosis and how their healthcare experiences have differed.

In this episode Ella and Erin chat to friends about about common misconceptions around menstruation, and how they have a big impact on the way in which we deal with, see and understand our periods.

In this episode we talk to Ella Lambert, Bristol University Student and Founder of The Pachamama Project. During the coronavirus lockdown, she and her university friend, Oliwia Geisler, collected fabric from the local community and learnt how to sew to make reusable period pads. She recruited volunteers to help create the pads, and The Pachamama Project was born. The pads are distributed to charities and NGO’s working with refugees, mitigating the impact of period poverty on displaced people.

This episode is an interview between Sanitree's Hannah and Doctor Camilla Rostvik from Saint Andrews University about menstruation in visual culture and history.
Dr Rostvik is a founding member of the UK Menstruation Research Network and is currently Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews, with a project about the history of menstruation in art and advertising 1950 to the present. At St Andrews, she co-organises an early career network for women and a feminist reading group.
