The COMM-Unity podcast serves the purpose of democratizing the future for Black students to create engaging spaces to pursue communication. This is the first communication studies department podcast within the CSU system. We are representing the Cal State University East Bay Pioneers Community and the city of Hayward, California. Everyone has a voice, and every informed voice should be heard.
The latest episode of Comm-Unity features East Bay’s very own Nina Woodruff-Walker. Nina is a 2019 M.A. Communication Studies Grad and the Executive Director of MOCHA Oakland. Nina and I discuss Social Identity Theory and the numerous ways it can be applied in the world. Additionally, we get a first hand glance at the endeavors of MOCHA and the experiences that lead her to where she stands today. Nina is a two time pioneer grad having attained her B.A. in Communication Studies in 2016.

Today’s episode of Comm-Unity will explore the entire college experience as a whole. Our guest for today is Judy Tan. Judy is a former UCSD grad and recent CSUEB grad. Judy offers a great expertise that is exemplary of East Bay and the educational opportunities that are provided here. We also examine Critical Theory and review the various ways that it has been applied in her work as a Communication scholar. This episode is a terrific overview of our program and the academic framework that builds the greater East Bay Community.
The latest episode of Comm-Unity features Class of 2019 CSUEB grad Reina Robinson. Reina and I will discuss the theory of Media Dependency in addition to her Non-Profit, the Center for Urban Excellence. Furthermore, Reina offers a great expertise on the journey of college life at East Bay from her perspective as an Undergrad and Graduate Pioneer. In this episode we talk to Brady Formoso, a current graduate student here at CSUEB. Today we will discuss Social Psychology Theory.
