Toronto FC are downed 1-0 to FC Dallas and their season continues to stall as momentum is eluding them time and time again. Even with the CCL in the rear view mirror, the team is lacking fitness, a healthy roster and a level of cohesiveness to compete against the best teams in the league. Giovinco had another night where he just was inches away from goals but could not convert, and overall the team lacked the final touch to at the very least get a goal.
Toronto locks down the scoreline as local boys Jay Chapman and Ryan Telfer lift the Reds to a critical 2-1 win over Orlando City. It was an emerging display from Telfer who has been getting minutes, but this was his breakthrough performance where he took advantage of a weak side of the pitch and created chance after chance until he scored the winning goal. Chapman as well has been looking good and notched the opener that was set up by Tosaint Ricketts. With the win, TFC earned an essential three points that keeps them out of the basement of the Eastern Conference.
SEEING RED! More dropped points by TFC and a Giovinco red card - can it get any worse?! A 3-2 loss to the New England Revolution did nothing to reinstill any confidence, and what positive seen in the second half were undone by Seba's straight red. We discuss the card, the million dollar man Ager Aketxe, any positives on the night and the question beginning to be floated around TFC-land: are Toronto already outside of the playoff hunt?
Toronto has the CCL in the rear view mirror and we can now look at a 3-0 result with nothing else on the horizon but MLS play. A win over Philadelphia was much needed after dropping points last weekend against Chicago, and with key players missing, the rest of the side stepped up. Giovinco, Osorio, Vasquez and then Chapman took care of business for TFC to comfortably dispatch an underwhelming Union team. It was important to get three points as tougher opposition is ahead, specifically this Wednesday against Seattle.
That is what we are left with after a gutting 2-1 loss to CD Guadalajara in the Champions League - the opponent who was supposed to be the easiest of the three faced thus far. It was an off night all around as the Reds didn't have that edge we saw against Tigres and América, and two lapses were all it took to score goals for Chivas. Now it's all on the away leg to see if MLS can finally lift the trophy.
Yes, it's TFC's CCL side, and until the championship round is over, we will be seeing another side, who were game but unable to get the better of the Colorado Rapids in a 2-0 away loss. It was a CanCon roster, allowing the youth to be on display and give us a glimpse of future potential. There was plenty of positives, however, the overall performance looked out of sync and not to the standard we are used to with our top XI. It's a forgettable result and one that has to be weighed and considered with a CONCACAF title on the line over the next week.
Toronto FC are in the driver's seat, however, a 3-1 win over Club América is not enough an advantage heading down to Mexico for the second leg in the CONCACAF Champions League. It will be a tough return leg, but right now we are going over one of the best nights at BMO as the Reds dispatched another Liga MX giant in slaying Club América through goals from Giovinco, Jozy and Ashtone Morgan. It was another uplifting performance from a team who are really starting to look like the best team in the region.
That is all we've been waiting for this season, yes, a win is great, but a win that secures us, the supporters, a much deserved cheese or pepperoni slice, is a long time coming. Our hunger now satiated we can look back on a TFC performance that met the standard set in 2017 where they dominated opposition at home, and in this instance took out Real Salt Lake 3-1. Now Toronto have only a minute to breathe before the next round of the Champions League as they face Mexican giants Club America.
Oh yes, the Reds have yet to kick start their 2018 MLS campaign despite excitement in the CONCACAF Champions League. A 1-0 loss to rivals Montreal Impact was a disappointment, but the first two matches in MLS do have asterisks that should be considered. The Champions League looms with Club America on the horizon, as well as Real Salt Lake leading into that match. We break down the loss, the landscape of the first month of the season and look ahead to where the Reds sit now at 0-2 in league play.
YES, the TFC we've had to wait... well, three games to see, this season finally showed up and put in they type of performance you'd expect from a top side in CONCACAF. At home, against arguably the best team in the region, UANL Tigres, the Reds came back from a poor first half as well as going a goal down to complete the comeback and win 2-1. Now, the real challenge is ahead as they must travel to Monterrey, Mexico, for the return fixture and see if the club can continue to make history.
Good grief the Reds did not look the part as they were shut out by the Columbus Crew in the season opener at BMO Field, Toronto has their chances, but could not convert, while the Crew brought pressure and finishing, which made the difference in the 2-0 scoreline. Something just looked off, first starting with an awful pitch, but the players didn't step on the field with something to prove like we saw in 2017. To be fair, it is only match one, and it is a blunt reminder of what is in store for the reigning champions this year and they will need to be even more determined if they are to repeat in 2018.

First the Reds needed to get past the Columbus Crew, and they did so in a tense affair that first saw heroics from Michael Bradley to save a goal, then by Jozy Altidore to score the winner. It was a night of huge relief as the best season in MLS will now be capped off with an MLS Cup Final appearance. Now TFC must avenge last year's loss and stake their proper claim as the best team in MLS history.
A 0-0 draw in Columbus leaves everything up for grabs next week when the return leg comes back to Toronto. It was a tight affair in Ohio, with Toronto playing a tactical and disciplined match that almost came undone in the final minutes. Alex Bono once again saved the day to keep the Reds in a good position and with Giovinco and Jozy Altidore set to return they should be looking at the next match with confidence.
Maybe because we lost! TFC are dropped 1-0, but dodged a bullet in the playoffs by advancing on away goals 2-2 over the New York Red Bulls. It wasn't your normal encounter, as it was a "classic" MLS refereeing display that had bad calls, no calls and missed calls to put almost every advantage towards New York. However, the Reds get through to face Columbus without superstars in tow - both Jozy Altidore and Giovinco will be suspended and it will take a huge team effort to keep the side in a strong position coming back to BMO.
Toronto FC take care of business away to the New York Red Bulls in a huge 2-1 win to put them in the driver's seat ahead of the home leg. It was another professional win, that still left room for improvement, as the usual suspects of Jozy Altidore, Giovinco and Victor Vasquez created the chances, while Chris Mavinga and Alex Bono were essential in keeping them out. It is a buoyant result against a top team who could have been the bogeyman, but there is now confidence not just ahead of Sunday, but that the team is playing at the level to keep pushing towards the MLS Cup Final.
One to remember as TFC finish the season as the highest all time point getters in MLS history. A 2-2 draw was enough to surpass the LA Galaxy and put the Reds in the books as one of the best ever. However, we all agree there is still work to do as Toronto will be looking at the post season as a chance at redeeming themselves from the Cup Final last year. In the south end, with supporters, with the players, it was a night to celebrate but it was dampened by a less than stellar performance as the Reds beat the Montreal Impact 1-0. It was a bizarre afternoon with torrential rain and gusting winds that impacted the pitch, but also the return of key players both from injury and World Cup collapses effected the overall play. In the end, it's three points and TFC need to step it up as they head into Atlanta for the last game of the season and look to repeat their playoff run from 2016.

It was a disaster from the get go as Alex Bono hoofed the ball off Piatti's back into goal and it never looked good from there. Yes, Tosaint Ricketts scored a brace, but getting back into the game from allowing five goals is next to impossible. Was it a match to get out of our system? Here's hoping as TFC need to get healthy and primed as they head down the stretch for the 2017 playoffs.
Toronto FC once again put forth a dominant home display, this time taking out the San Jose Earthquakes 4-0 courtesy of a Jozy Altidore brace. However, it was what is becoming a classic home performance where there were no weak links and everyone chipping in from Victor Vasquez to Steven Beitashour, with Jonathan Osorio adding in insurance at the end. It was a near-perfect performance with a passing and possession highlighting the afternoon. Looking ahead, TFC are into the homestretch for the playoffs and have some key fixture to watch as they are in a position for a season of greatness.

It was another solid display as Marky Delgado, Alex Bono and Michael Bradley all stood apart in putting forth strong performances to ensure the win. Looking ahead, the Union come to BMO but likely TFC will be eyeing next weekend's clash against the Montreal Impact.

It was another impressive display at home, lead once again by the creativity of Giovinco, with the finishing of Justin Morrow and support of Victor Vasquez. With some missing pieces, the Reds still managed to look dominant for long stretches and the second half completely took the heart of the Timbers to walk away with all three points. It was a critical result ahead of next weekend's clash against Eastern Conference contenders Chicago Fire that will open up the title race and playoff positions.
Toronto FC mangle NYCFC 4-0 and make several statements of who is the boss in the Eastern Conference. The visitors tried to go toe-to-toe, but on this day TFC were more determined and lead by their DP dynamo, Giovinco. David Villa the best DP of all time? The line has been drawn and once again the Italian came out on top in this fixture, as Giovinco scored a brace and set up his teammates. It was one of the best afternoons in recent memory and the Reds remain as serious contenders for the Supporters Shield, and look to build more momentum as the turn the corner towards the 2017 post-season.
Ok, well WE would have gotten the slice of pizza as the Reds drew 1-1 with the woeful Colorado Rapids. It was a cagey affair with the opposition happy to foul and happy to cramp up at every opportunity in order to drag the result into a draw. At the end of the day the ploy worked as Toronto could not get any real momentum after Benoit Cheyrou left injured in the first half. It was a game of real highlights and lowlights, as Giovinco, Clint Irwin and Jay Chapman all looked good, but the Rapids did their best to make it an ugly match with plenty of stoppages. The referee did not help the cause as he was unable to control the antics and the match ended earlier than it should have, but quite simply it was a game to move on from and forget.
Yes, it's another 2-0 home victory for the Reds, who keep on bettering opposition at BMO Field, despite playing at near exhaustion. On two days rest, Toronto mustered up a solid home display where there were no glaring weak links in the squad and the quality was enough to grab all three points. Determination and commitment abounds, it really came down to an Alex Bono super save and Giovinco's last second insurance goal to seal what was an entertaining Friday night of football.
Yes, it's become an ordinary score for TFC at home, however, it wasn't the usual result as it took the second half for the Reds to score their goals and DC United proved to be more stubborn than several other better sides in MLS. After a poor game in New England, Sebastian Giovinco bounced back with two assists that set up two solid goals from Jozy Altidore and Jordan Hamilton. It was a much needed three points as TFC are looking ahead at a crazy schedule that won't let up until the end of the summer.
A 3-0 loss to New England snaps TFC’s league unbeaten run and also puts Greg Vanney’s lucky shirt in the incinerator. I always thought that shirt was overhyped and it did not live up to it’s billing - oh and neither did Giovinco, who has been struggling to find his lethal form from the last two seasons. It was a forgettable result and one that likely was not watched by many people as the dog days of summer are upon us and matches with plenty of squad rotation. With a break ahead, it will do the team well as their next opponent is the struggling DC United.
Yes, a Trillium Cup to remember, and everyone's favourite trophy is lifted by the Reds via a 5-0 demolition of a hapless Columbus Crew. It was impressive in many aspects, as there was no Giovinco or Jozy, the team went down to ten men, and the final goals game in the dying minutes through classy finishes from players who appear to be on the fringe of the starting eleven. It was a pleasant return to form after a poor mid-week, and also erased any doubts the team would slip after their draw in New York City.
Oh well, what's important is the TFC locomotive keeps steamrolling ahead, and their sixth victim in a row is the expansion Minnesota United, who were dropped 3-2 at BMO Field. What's also impressive is the four wins in a two week span, and two of those wins were likely not expected at all. Greg Vanney rotates the line up on Saturday and they still grind out the victory. It's all coming up TFC these days and there is little to be critical of - but we still find a way to nitpick as even with an impressive start to 2017, comprehensive performances have been few and there is still room for this team to improve.
Was it redemption, revenge or any kind of satisfaction? No, not really. However, there was some confirmation that what happened in December 2016 was how TFC supporters saw it, that being the Reds were the better team, and with key players missing in 2017 went to Seattle and took all three points. It was a big performance from Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore, while the depth players such as Jay Chapman, Raheem Edwards and Jason Hernandez were key to the result - putting faith in the complete roster that with players missing, TFC can still compete with the best.

Up next is Orlando City then Seattle where TFC will be put to the test if they can maintain their current form.

The Italian DP had fire in his belly as he was in vintage form taking shots whenever openings occurred, and topped it off with two slick finishes. But it wasn't a one man show, as the defence held up without Drew Moor and the midfield looked solid. It was a match of few complaints, and a performance needed ahead of two more tricky opponents in the Houston Dynamo and Orlando City.
Yes, the Reds, unbeaten in five (1W-4D-0L) ends with a 2-1 loss to the Columbus Crew to not only keep them near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, but behind their rivals in the prestigious Trillium Cup. TFC got off to a solid start, opening the scoring and looking the better side, but lapses in focus, both in finishing and defending, were enough to undo any chances at points. Toronto will need to step it up a notch quickly as three home games in a row should be an opportunity for nine points, but if this form continues, will be opportunities lost.

Even going up a man in the final stretch of the match wasn't enough of an advantage as the Reds played better at even strength and could not muster the game winning goal. Atlanta burned Chris Mavinga twice, but on the home side, both Victor Vasquez and Armando Cooper put in solid performances, while Giovinco opened his scoring account for 2017. It's still early in the season and TFC aren't falling behind, but sooner than later Toronto will want to see a win in our home field.
Yes another scoreless ninety minutes for Toronto FC, in similar weather, with the majority of chances. It was a tough match to bear back in December and four months later, well not much changed. TFC's inaugural home opening opponent, Kansas City, returned but only managed one point this time in a 0-0 draw that saw Giovinco and Jonathan Osorio miss key chances to snag all three points. Instead the offence is sputtering early on in 2017 and the Reds will need to get into fifth gear coming into this weekend's match against Atlanta.
That's all TFC needed to get past their west coast Canadian rivals Vancouver Whitecaps in a 2-0 win. Three points on the road were key heading into the home opener and the start of the season is now looking pretty good. Brek Shea's red card opened up the game for the Reds as substitutions of Victor Vasquez and Raheem Edwards were the right move to change the face of the game and lead to the win. Vasquez and Altidore both contributed on each goal and with a week's rest, TFC should be feeling confident going back to BMO Field.
The Reds manage to net two goals in Philadelphia, but could not keep a lead as the Union levelled the game that finished 2-2. It was a gritty affair in the opening forty-five, but oddly enough once Giovinco left with injury, TFC came alive in the second half and probably should have done better than a single point. It is back to back games where they might have done more, but it's early on in the campaign with bigger games ahead, most notably next weekend against Vancouver where three points would do well to lift the side ahead of the home opener at the end of March.

Thankfully, this match was the start of the season and in the big picture, likely will be forgotten. However, there were several chances for the three points and much to discuss as the eleventh campaign for TFC begins. Unfortunately, there is only so much on the pitch to go over as there is plenty in the news off the pitch and we run through the week that was in Toronto.

It's a tough pill to swallow for TFC supporters as the chances were few, and the one golden chance was turned away with cat-like karma reflexes by Stefan Frei. It's not the most positive ESSU, but we do our best to get through a difficult episode where we felt somewhat robbed with how it all went down.
Let's be honest, who would have thought we'd still be talking TFC in early December? Not me. But here we are and we are all in, still speechless after the Reds hoist the Eastern Conference title, but careful not to celebrate too much as there is still business to take care of. That is in an old expansion foe in the Seattle Sounders, who have gotten the better of TFC many times since 2009 and this could be the year where Toronto finally edges ahead of their west coast expansion rivals. It will be a tough one-off affair, but one with home-field advantages and a team peaking at the right time. We cannot wait to knock out one more post-game ESSU in a few days time.

What was such a promising run a month ago has turned into a very poor home stretch as the Reds wrap it up with 2-1 loss to DC United. The Giovinco-less side struggle to both clinically finish chances as well as remain focused on defence as they are now in a run of form that is not desirable heading into the playoffs. Toronto are in it, but how far will they go and will we get to see them deliver at home? The last two games will tell us much and this end of season will be one to watch.
Well, TFC draw the Philadelphia Union after a similar display from the previous week that was a tale of two halves that had Toronto looking quite poor in the opening forty-five, but finally coming alive in the second half to salvage a point. In truth, both teams have a case to not coming away with more, but the Reds should have been able to put this one away and secure a home fixture in the post-season. There is plenty to discuss on the field and in the stands and Spark and Andre are in good spirits going over the latest TFC result.

Toronto FC get a result in Orlando, first reversing an earlier loss, but most importantly with the 2-1 propel themselves top of the Eastern Conference. It has been a month to remember as the streak has been impressive, most if it to do with players outside of Giovinco. Specifically Jozy Altidore, Tosaint Ricketts, Alex Bono and Drew Moor have been integral in the recent run of form. Ahead of Montreal TFC have confidence and should feel as though they are now officially the team to beat.
Could it be the most posi ESSU ever? Looking back the positivity is somewhat nauseating, however, a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union, away, is something to feel good about. Paul Marhue of ESSU is on board to share all the good feels and discuss an impressive run of results for Toronto FC that includes beating teams they couldn't last year, and getting road results that we only dream of outside of the first eight games of the season. Oh yeah, and Jozy Altidore is a beast. This is not the Twilight Zone, just TFC Posiville and we love it here. At least until the next stinker.
Toronto FC's rain delayed performance was one to forget as they could not put away a 10-man Houston Dynamo and had to settle for a 1-1 draw with one of the worst teams in MLS. However, Spark and Aaron qualify the performance and weigh out the result against the intangibles of playing in Texas during August. Should we have expected more? That is the question, but one answer we have is Jozy Altidore is playing like we hoped at the start of the year and Toronto have looked better with him involved. The next two games will determine how Houston should be measured in the big picture.
Ok, a week late, but Ian Clarke is back from vacation and catching up on a pod in the can. Andre Zadarozny wraps up the 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake all by his lonesome, but zings through an important match for TFC that keeps their winning streak alive.
Despite the summer heat, it was raining goals courtesy of Giovinco, who broke his goalless streak and helped TFC secure a much needed 4-1 over DC United. The win keeps the Reds on pace with the rest in the conference, but also gives the Italian DP a much needed boost of confidence. It wasn't just Giovinco, as the supporting cast was up to task of providing key passes and scoring chances, with important appearances from Tosaint Ricketts and Jozy Altidore. There is much to look forward to once the likes of Clint Irwin, Will Johnson and Michael Bradley return.
Despite being subjected to the NBA's top 50 plays of 2015-16, Toronto FC comes back from a rain delay, and boring first half, to offer more in the second half and a 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew. The away goal will come in handy in another week when the third, final and cup-lifting fixture determines who wins the Trillium Cup, and as it seems know, the youngsters might have a chance at being essential components to the result.
No, it was not an explosive affair between TFC and Seattle, as the 1-1 draw had all scoring happen within a minute. Toronto were up against one of the poorer sides in MLS, but with so many injuries, could only muster up what and who was available, which was a noticeable drop in quality. However, the players on hand did as best they could with Tsubasah Endoh and Jay Chapman showing well for themselves and Giovinco trying his best to carry the side. A point is good for now, but to stay afloat in a competitive division, TFC will need to do better in the coming very busy weeks.
With nearly ten added minutes to the end of the match, referee Ismail Elfath chose to decide the result right at the end on a dubious foul by Drew Moor on Julio Baptista. Earlier in the half, Jordan Hamilton had similar contact by Joe Bendik for a non-call and TFC supporters are right to feel aggrieved. It is another poor and inconsistent display by PRO referees to decide all three points. Aside from the controversy, there were several storylines, such as: Clint Irwin v. Joe Bendik, Cyle Larin v. Jordan Hamilton, as well as a solid performance from Jonathan Osorio.
Toronto FC earn a rare three points against a perennial contender, as they drop the LA Galaxy 1-0 in a gritty affair that kept Giovinco off the scoresheet but others pulled through for the win. It was some other key players, such as Benoit Cheyrou, Clint Irwin and Drew Moor, who all contributed to keeping TFC in the match and in a good position to net the winning goal. It was a packed house and the 12th man was in full effect to also give the Reds a level of support that has not been seen in years. Overall, it was a great night and solid result to look forward to Vancouver midweek and Orlando come the weekend.
Toronto FC could not follow up on their surprise season opening win, and instead put in a 'classic' Red Bulls Arena performance, being dropped 3-0 with all goals coming within the first thirty minutes. It was the Bradley Wright-Phillips show as he netted the hat-trick and with Giovinco gone to an early injury, the Reds had few opportunities to get back in the game. Despite a Red Bulls red card, there just wasn't enough depth and in sync players to rise up against a solid MLS contender.
The Reds drop points again at home, only able to get a point through a scoreless 0-0 draw with rivals, the Columbus Crew. TFC had their chances, especially by way of dynamo DP Giovinco, but he was not clinical in finishing. Clint Irwin was up to the task at the other end of the pitch, keeping the likes of Federico Higuain and Justin Meram in check to preserve the point. With the Copas looming the loss of Michael Bradley will be huge, but also presents an opportunity for other players to step up and claim their position with the club.
Spark and Stephe leave BMO disappointed as the Reds should have taken all three points and it was an opportunity lost in a 1-1 draw with NYCFC. Youth was on display as Mo Baboulli and Jay Chapman were starters and were likely the talking points for the match. Despite a shaky start that picked up where it left off Saturday night, there were plenty of chances for Toronto to ice this game, but aside from Giovinco the side is lacking the clinical finish to see out a victory over a weaker opposition.
It was a shootout at BMO Field, as the Vancouver Whitecaps had more pace and firepower to see through a 4-3 win over Toronto FC. There was plenty of blame to go around on this night as several players on TFC did not step onto the pitch with the required intensity and as a result Vancouver capitalized and put the Reds in a hole they had to dig out of for almost the entire match. Jozy Altidore missed a penalty and then injured himself, which leads to what is next with injuries and tournaments on the horizon? It will be a trying 6-8 weeks for TFC and one where much good work could come undone.
Even though TFC have an obscene amount of chances on goal, enough to say they could have won 5 or 6-0, the 1-0 victory over FC Dallas was a solid victory to keep them well on pace atop of the Eastern Conference. It was a comprehensive display throughout the pitch as Clint Irwin was up the challenge with key saves, the midfield was dominant against a tricky Dallas side, and Giovinco again was pulling all the strings creating chances for himself and his teammates. It was a good result, with some red flags on finishing, but if it begins to come together, TFC could be making the statement they are a legitimate top side in MLS.
Toronto FC might have ended their road trip with a loss, but they did well to start off the year at a huge disadvantage. A 2-1 defeat to the Portland Timbers, while should have been a win, still is framed through a road trip that had three wins and eleven points. There are still some areas to fine tune, but others such as defending, that supporters can begin to look at as legitimately improved. We discuss the road trip and what to expect at BMO both on the field and in the stands.
Toronto FC keep piling up points to start the season, surpassing club President Bill Manning's initial goal and with a 2-0 win over the Montreal Impact are sitting on 11 points in their first seven games. It wasn't just a win, it has been a steady climb for the team, who put in their best all around performance of the year where there were no weak links and everyone played a role. Defensively the Reds continue to lock it down, and moving forward it is Giovinco's finish ability that cannot be stopped, either from the penalty spot, or from distance. It was an encouraging display ahead of Portland as the club eagerly comes closer to their 2016 home opener.

The early Giovinco goal also showed some cohesion starting to form in the midfield as four players were involved in the sequence and this bodes well for two more tough away games before finally getting the home opener on May 7.

Clint Irwin is emerging as a noticeable upgrade between the sticks, and there was a glimpse of what the attack could look like if Jozy Altidore and Giovinco reestablish cohesion and work off one another. It was a bigger picture result where if the team stays healthy and gets in sync, it could be the start of a good run of form.

TFC villain Brad Davis strikes again - this time with Sporting Kansas City and a controversial non-call from Baldomir Toledo. Has that ever happened? The single goal was all that was needed to keep the Wizards perfect on the season and hand the Reds their first defeat. We look at Toledo's non-call, and call against Espinoza, TFC's less than stellar TV numbers but hype up Canada's huge World Cup Qualifier against Mexico later this week.
The Reds managed to come back from a 2-0 deficit and level the score and leave with an important point. TFC now have four points to start the season and are in a good position to get through the opening eight game road trip. Once again it was Giovinco who lead the charge as he had a hand in all the goals, and some defensive errors made the difference on both sides of the ball.

Certain underdogs, TFC's defence bent but did not break and as the match wore on, they found their moment down the final minutes - first with Giovinco finding Endoh in the area to draw a penalty, then springing Delgado on a 1v1 for a tidy finish. Despite the loss, the final week of the 2015 season will be one to watch and see if Toronto are primed for their first ever playoff appearance.

A 3-1 win over Philadelphia instills confidence the teams is on track, but the next three games will be critical to giving support knowledge of whether TFC are a team who will beat the worst teams and struggle against the better ones, or whether they have grown since humbling defeats from August
TFC's Giovinco is tallying up the points, goals and assists, going down as one of, if not the, best ever in the league. His assists, and 'goal', helped lift the Reds to an important 3-2 win over the Chicago Fire. It was a reunion as last year's DP signing Gilberto netted a brace, while this year's DPs for TFC also scored, sort of. As well, south of the border, local-boy Cyle Larin scored a hat-trick to become the all-time rookie leading scorer in the league and is cause for much celebration for a Canadian perspective.

It was another Giovinco masterclass as the Italian DP did it all with a brace and assist. Canada eases by Belize 3-0 at home and appear to be on their way to the fourth round of Russia 2018 qualifying. Despite all the possession, it wasn't pretty in terms of the goals and what that means moving forward might not be seen until November. We go over the key players that suited up for Canada, specifically Atiba Hutchinson and Will Johnson, and discuss who else will be needed for the team to have success agains the likes of Mexico and Honduras.
Both midfielders put in a MOTM performances, and both will be staying with TFC through the international break coming up next weekend. Toronto down rivals Montreal Impact 2-1 to create distance between them and also keep pace with the top half of the Eastern Conference. It wasn't a pretty display, but three points were critical to bag all six from the recent home stand. The Reds will need to hope both Benoit Cheyrou and Giovinco's injuries aren't significant as both will be needed to put up a fight against the Sounders.

The question over the past week is how vital will the dropped home points be in the bigger picture? Heading into the Gold Cup there is plenty to review regarding the play of the club to this point, how they will cope through July missing key players, and reintegrate them in August without missing a beat.
TFC were outmuscled by NYCFC and had no Plan B outside of Giovinco to come away with anything in a 2-0 loss. The battle of former Real Salt Lake coaches went to the one with the most experience as Jason Kreis didn't show off his background of fluid football, but was gritty and the perfect solution for a surging TFC and the technique of their attack. It's a match to move on from and use as motivation for Montreal midweek, but also keep in mind for the next time these two sides meet.
The CANMNT advances past Dominica as the younger players shine and give hope for the future. All eyes would have been on the likes of Cyle Larin and Tesho Akindele, but Samuel Piette, Ashtone Morgan and Jonathan Osorio all had their moments looking good for Canada in their 4-0 win over Dominica. The team advances to the next round of qualifying, but up first is the Gold Cup and what will be a much stiffer test and level of competition as this will be Benito Floro's real test of how far the team has come over the last two years.
Giovinco once again steals the show, as the Italian DP drives the Reds to a 3-1 victory over San Jose. It was a step up from last weekend as TFC finished more chances and the weak links were stronger in their performances. It was another fine outing from Justin Morrow and Luke Moore has proven to be valuable in Jozy Altidore's absence. Next weekend away to DC United will prove to be a strong measure of how far this team has progressed through the first third of the season.
It was the Giovinco show on Saturday as the Atomic Ant did it all, scored, set up countless chances for his teammates and was continuous a threat in the final third. A 1-0 win over Portland was not comprehensive and had shaky moments down the stretch, but a win is a win. BMO Field is still far from a fortress, but it was another step in some players linking up and creating - now it's a matter of finishing and TFC could start to become a threat week in week out.
TFC are dropped 2-1 by the woeful Houston Dynamo in the home opener. A renovated, bigger and 'better' BMO Field made no difference on the product on the field as Toronto couldn't overwhelm one of the poorer sides currently in MLS. There is no positive spin on this one, this should have been three points and all the work done in the last two league wins is undone and the uncertainty that had been quelled returns with two tough games ahead in the Voyageurs Cup and away to New England next weekend.
TFC down Orlando City and collect what was the expected three points against an expansion side. There has yet to be a comprehensive ninety minutes from the team, however, to come away with a road win is all that matters at this point with Philadelphia and the home opener looming.
... but alas it was not meant to be this week as TFC were undone all by themselves in a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Fire. It's hard not to look at two defensive sequences, and especially Warren Creavelle's red card that lead to the winning goal. While we discuss the positives that came from the match, it is also a question of if or when a "must win" has to happen? Without a doubt before the home opener, but with the recent form, who will that be?
The Reds had similar defensive breakdowns as the senior side in a 3-2 loss to the Charleston Battery. However, it was encouraging to see relative unknowns playing live and offer some tangible displays to confirm who are the future senior side players. Goals from Jordan Hamilton and Babouli reinforced their potential and the midfield looks the part. How it all comes together over a full season will remain to be seen, but there is certainly some players to watch through the year who will be close to making the jump.
Michael Bradley's favourite ref once again has a hand in the Reds dropping points as his straight red on Justin Morrow was the catalyst in a 2-0 loss to the Columbus Crew. It's not eight straight seasons without the playoffs and there isn't much indication things will be on the right track moving forward. From failed DP signings to questionable quality depth, it will be another off season with plenty of questions from the front office to the sidelines right onto the field.
Well anyone who has watched this team over the last three months knows it's "match" but with two games left, Columbus could still mess it all up. However, New York made a statement they are primed for the playoffs in beating Toronto 3-1. We go over what that loss means to TFC's playoff hopes, the impact DP signings has had this season, what the coaching carousel is looking like and a bit of speculation as to what 2015 could look like.

Toronto FC down a Chivas USA side who now haven't won in eleven matches, 3-0 at BMO Field. It was what would be expected against such a woeful opponent and still leaves questions as to where this TFC side sits - which will likely be answered next weekend when Portland comes to town. There were positives to take from the match, such as another Gilberto goal and Steve Caldwell returning to the starting eleven. However, with Jermain Defoe supposedly returning next week, will the fragile mentality of the club be disrupted? With six games left TFC need to win at least three and draw one to be legitimately in playoff contention. Time is running out.
The final stretch of 2014 requires group therapy as Toronto are fighting, but not getting much help from the refs, as they drew 1-1 with Chicago in another must win match. Michael Bradley did not mince words and it's hard to argue that MLS referees are not up to the quality of the league as Dave Ganter had a howler in the final minute to call back what was a hard fought goal from Gilberto. With seven games to go, TFC will need to start winning at home and it begins next Saturday against Chivas USA.
The one TFC fans feel every year when they realize AGAIN the team won't make the playoffs? Well anyone who watched the Reds lose 2-0 to the Philadelphia Union are likely feeling that as despite the roster and potential, the poor mentality and confidence is too much to overcome. Another heartless display leaves much to be desired at Toronto are in free fall and there is little evidence where or how it will be reversed.
It's hard to stay positive after a display like this, in a game with playoff ramification. It was over before it really ever began as Toronto were downed 3-0 at home by the New England Revolution. There's no sugar coating this, it was a brutal display by TFC who never really showed up and their key players were never in the game. With the final third of the season to go, this team will need to turn things around quickly and drastically if they are to make the playoffs.

The top of the table is out of reach based on this performance, and the playoffs is starting to look dicey as all the money spent has been unable to put together a lethal side that, again at home, can't put away one of the worst teams in the league.
A 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Sporting Kansas City confirms how far the TFC needs to go in order to become a top MLS side. A systematic, well fought win for Kansas City put the Reds in their place, which now is solidly in third. Some bright spots still such as Dominic Oduro and Gilberto, but defending is where the team is breaking down and that will need to be sorted out. There is no other word to describe it than abysmal. The result speaks for itself. 3-0 at the hands of DC United and the question is certainly raised of where TFC sits in overall scheme of MLS. Clearly, despite the money spent, not near the top of the Eastern Conference as they have lost back to back games against teams who have not splashed the cash and have built around proven MLS calibre players. With three more road games coming, these next games will be a major factor in where, or if, the Reds are positioned come post-season.
More than one, in more ways than one. Toronto FC could have and should have buried this game, but a lack of finishing allowed Sporting Kansas City to stay in it, and ultimately come away with all three points in a 2-1 result. From poor refereeing, to more than five clear cut chances on goal, the Reds did themselves no favours allowing SKC to get all three points and create distance between themselves and third place. A difficult road stretch is ahead now, that needs to show more than chances on goal, wins will be essential to avoid slipping out of the playoff picture.
Jermain Defoe almost single-handedly brings back TFC from a 2-0 deficit to an impressive come-from-behind 4-2 win. He certainly had a good supporting cast, but the striker had a hand in every goal and it was a virtuoso performance. There are issues raised on the backline once again as it was not a seamless outing, but it will likely be saved for the training pitch as everyone left BMO in high spirits and Toronto with an important three points.
Fear not, Toronto FC still have the games to make up what was a disappointing home result, losing 2-1 to DC United. It was reminiscent of 2012 where all the chances and majority of possession were in Toronto's favour, but DC was the team who finished their chances and took all three points. However, given how well the side has played over the last eight matches, there is plenty of evidence that this loss can be corrected and wrong righted. Houston next weekend is the perfect opponent as they have been terrible this season and should give TFC the right chance to bounce back.
Toronto FC leave New York with a rare point and were seconds away from all three. Considering the last five years nearly every match in New York was a certain thumping, this was the first time since 2008 where they played the Red Bulls with confidence and really looked like they can stand toe to toe. Still lots of lessons to learn, but also positives to take. Of course, the Gilberto 'incident' is well discussed and watching the relationship between the DP striker, Jermain Defoe and Ryan Nelsen will be one to watch.
On the weekends anyway. Let's forget about the Vs Cup - Toronto FC are on a positive run of MLS form and once again nabbed all three points at BMO as they downed San Jose 1-0. It wasn't a glorious affair, but a sound defensive display highlighted by Mark Bloom, Doneil Henry and potential MOTM Nick Hagglund. A perfect Saturday afternoon saw Jermain Defoe score once again and with the World Cup break, leaves TFC in an excellent position in the table, with games in hand.
Toronto FC lifts the prestigious trophy after beating Columbus for the second time this season in a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 victory at BMO Field. It was a boring affair that was hinging on another home loss until Jermain Defoe crushed a 20 yard strike and catapulted TFC into believers for the final ten minutes. It was all capped off by Doneil Henry who nodded in the set piece for the third goal and all three points. TFC, after looking so average for the last month, are in a good position in the table and sitting pretty nearing the World Cup break.
That's right, Jermain Defoe comes through, and newly added Luke Moore adds the insurance as Toronto earn a critical home victory 2-0 over the New York Red Bulls. It was an important display as Ryan Nelsen had traded away one of the Reds few goalscorers in Issey Nakajima-Farran (on his birthday no less) and goals have been a rarity so far in 2014. It was another strong defensive effort and one that, despite it not being wholly convincing, was important in keeping TFC in the middle of the pack and in a good position to move up if and when better form takes shape.
Three straight losses for Toronto FC and questions abounds as to what is going on with a team who, after almost a two week break, should have been well rested and highly motivated to strive for the win. Instead we saw a team come out of the gates strong and never maintain that pressure, in the end losing 2-1 to the New England Revolution. When will Jermain Defoe and Gilberto become prolific? How much if it falls on Ryan Nelsen's shoulders? Lots to discuss for this team moving forward as there is clearly much work to do for TFC to become the juggernaut that the investment in players reflects.
As disappointing as the 2-1 loss to Dallas is, the Reds are still waiting to get their ideal starting XI together (on a decent pitch) and we've yet to see the side come together. There are good signs and individual performances, but it is clear there is still some ways to go before it all comes together as a proper team. Some continued encouraging signs, and players standing out, but waiting for Jermain Defoe et al. to get healthy makes is difficult to swallow these close results.
No Defoe, Bradley, Osorio, Rey, Henry, and throw in an awful pitch to boot and what do you know, Toronto FC looked a lot like the team of old where chances came, but finishing wasn't there. While the Reds had their share of opportunities in the final third, Colorado only needed a couple and they took care of business stealing all three points and earning their first win in Toronto against TFC. It's a bit of a slog as the performance yielded little, but there were some players to discuss and this is one where we'll be looking ahead and trying to move on from it as quickly as possible.
Are Toronto FC a good team? Six points out of three road games to start the season is a strong indicator that the Reds might have become a good team. But it wasn't the high paid superstars, although Michael Bradley was integral once again, but the depth players who remained disciplined and committed to earn a result. This one was won the midfield and the "General" and his troops held it down and ensured TFC continue their best start to a season ever.
Toronto FC went into Real Salt Lake, much like they did to Seattle and home to DC United, except this time their opponent had the chops to cut them down and take all three points. Running through this fixture, depth was front and centre as the loss of Jonathan Osorio and Jackson could not be overcome and the question is raised on whether Ryan Nelsen got his selection right. It was a humbling loss, and one that brings supporters back down to earth that this team is still a work in progress even though the Reds now have bonafide stars.
Six points out of the gate, two wins on the bounce, a pedigreed finisher, midfield general, top shelf keeper - the formula seems so obvious now! Toronto FC drop DC United 1-0 in a match that perhaps could have been a bigger result, but a win is a win and positive vibes are all around. Jermain Defoe does it again, but Gilberto certainly made a case that he could be a good player for this team as the two looked like a decent pairing. Michael Bradley once again was outstanding in the midfield doing it all, and Cesar was sharp in what limited action he saw. Again, it's only two games in, but from what has been on display so far, Toronto look like a solid team who can and should be able to fight for all three points all season long.
The super signing shouldn't get all the credit as it was an effort right down the spine of the team as even though Defoe bagged a brace, Michael Bradley was instrumental in locking down all three points, as well as the pairing at the back of Steve Caldwell and Doneil Henry. It was a season opener like none other, as the hopes and expectations were met with a stunning 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders. It wasn't all rainbows and unicorns as not everyone was in fifth gear, and there are players to watch and see if they can fit in and compliment the players around them. The 2014 MLS season has begun, but TFC get a much needed rest as we wait until the 15th to get to their opener. Away to Seattle poses a reach challenge for the Reds, but there is much to discuss outside of their first game of the campaign. It's the middle of preseason and March can't come soon enough. Toronto FC looked to be done their offseason moves, but now we are seeing a big move between the sticks. Brazilian International Cesar looks to be coming in and fan-favourite Matias Laba looks to be on the outs. A bigger discussion is what Toronto FC is gearing towards this season and what are the expectations that should be placed on the team for 2014.

TFC almost played the spoiler, but a Chicago Fire loss saw Montreal squeak into the playoffs despite Toronto defeating them 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. It was a rare organized and efficient performance from the Reds as they thoroughly dominated Montreal more most of the ninety minutes. Even when Montreal were able to create solid chances, Joe Bendik was there to shut the door. The season is done and it's all looking back on the year and putting it all into perspective heading towards 2014.
Toronto FC are going out with a whimper as they could not offer anything to a very mediocre Chicago Fire who had very good chances, but needed a dubious call from the referee to win via penalty kick. This match though isn't about lamenting the game at hand or refereeing, but with one week left in the season begin asking question regarding the state of the team and moving into 2014. Plenty to discuss from the club, players and coaching that all have issues to overcome if Toronto FC are to ever become a top side in the league.
TFC once again surrenders a goal in the dying minutes against Philadelphia, but this time the lose all three points in a 1-0 loss. Good work was undone in the final sequence as despite the defeat, we still have some straws to grasp at. Bright Dike in particular is a player we are excited for, but truthfully after that it is still up in the air where Toronto will land in 2014.
Better late than never! Yeah yeah DC United's "B" team... we'll take it. Bright Dike, Darrel Russell and Alvaro Rey all looked good against a team who made them look real good, but it's about keeping this all in perspective. As in TFC are better in 2013 than 2012 and there are some performance to monitor in the final weeks of the season. Off the pitch Tim Leiweke and Tim Bezbatchenko keep talking about England and Italy DP's and that is going to be interesting to see who will want to leave a top flight European league to come play for Toronto.
What else is there to say about a miserable afternoon where Toronto showed their quality deficiency and were downed by a CJ Sapong brace in a 2-1 loss. The Reds, per usual, were in it for stretches, but at the end of the day didn't have the finishing or creativity moving forward to get that final ball into the back of the net. The loss keeps them stuck at their point tally from 2012 and this season looks to be finishing with a near carbon copy as the year before.
Toronto FC, despite looking better than would be expected, are still comfortably existing at the bottom of the table and out of their depth against the middle of the table through to the top. A 2-0 defeat at Red Bull Arena is somewhat respectable considering the history of playing away to New York, but still offered little in terms of true positives in the short term. The Reds put in what has come to be expected as they drew 1-1 with the Chicago Fire and while Joe Bendik and the defence looked good, the attack lacked vision and quality finishing. It will go down as another forgettable result in 2013 as Toronto simply don't have the players, but also have not instilled any kind of creative approach that can unlock opposition. With the season winding down, and little to get excited about on the pitch, it's going through the motions to get a step closer to 2014.
Toronto FC never looked like they were at the level of their opposition as the Portland Timbers soundly outplayed the Reds and saw them off in a 4-0 route. TFC held on as long as they could, but awful defensive errors undid any positives and underscored a huge gap between where Toronto is now and where they need to go. As well we discuss the firings of Kevin Payne, Earl Cochrane and say adios to Tom Anselmi.
In retrospect there should have been more outrage as what looked to be a perfectly legitimate goal from Steve Caldwell was called back and TFC ended up with a 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution. The Reds wanted it more down the stretch as once again players stood up and made themselves noticed. It's a special pod with a whopping SIX guests - but most importantly three come on to discuss Justice for Matt and their experience meeting with Kevin Payne. I'll take those odds. Reggie Lambe comes through in the absence of Matia Laba and pulls the strings to ensure the Reds at the very least leave RFK with a draw. Armen Bedakian is on board to point out expectations should be set a bit higher against the worst team in the league, and missed chances are what ultimately underscored the result. Jeremy Brockie says his goodbyes as Maximiliano Urruti watches from the bench and the future still looks uncertain but not without discussion.

It was a disappointing performance considering the displays of the last month and few players stood out, most notably Joe Bendik who was called on time and time again to keep the score respectable. The arrival of Maximiliano Urruti did not open a floodgate of goals as TFC's offensive approach is still conservative and timid at best. It will take much more than a few South American signings to get Toronto's attack looking anything dangerous through the rest of the season.

It was a determined defensive effort as they bent but did not break against a strong attacking New England side. Bring down the rain, as finally TFC rise up and through determination get that desperate, and year-long needed, three points at BMO Field. A resounding sigh of relief is felt after this game, as some players who've left it all on the pitch got a result that has eluded them for much of the season. Going over the likes of Jeremy Brockie, Jonathan Osorio and Bobby Convey, they all have started to really look the part. It wasn't a win, but given how poor the week has been, a point against a team like New York is a small achievement. A 0-0 draw might not have unlocked any offensive output, but defensively, against a strong attacking side, Toronto FC looked composed. It was a much needed result and if it weren't for it being such a terrible season, there might be more optimism around the result. Nothing was solved midweek between Toronto FC and Montreal as they ended their clash in a 3-3 draw that had excitement in both halves. TFC did well to bounce back after a nightmare opening 30 seconds to gain a commanding lead, but it all crumbled away within a ninety seconds in the second half. Plenty to talk about as it was another good game for the Reds, but still one that ultimately keeps them firmly rooted near the bottom of the table.
Toronto FC are now closing in on the one year anniversary to their last MLS win south of the Gardiner as they lost their first home game to Real Salt Lake 1-0. It was another tough one to swallow for TFC fans as there were three late chances to level the score, but it wasn't meant to be. There are discussions about Doneil Henry's red card, Koevermans' fitness and form, and wade into another year of friendlies in the midst of a challenging season.

The first clean sheet of the year give genuine optimism TFC might be pulling it together and are in a good position now to return home and take another step upwards to consistent performances.
Toronto FC took care of business against the worst team in MLS thanks to a Daniel Woolard own goal. It wasn't pretty but three points is all that matters and with the winless streak over, there is no time to celebrate because plenty of work is still left to do. The Reds did not look great, but more DC came as advertised as an team with an impotent attack and one that struggles defensively. Toronto took advantage on both sides and got the win they desperately needed.
This twilight zone episode has got to be just about done as TFC ... wait for it ... you guessed it! Allowed a late goal to drop points as the Philadelphia Union came to BMO Field and stole a point in a 1-1 draw. The biggest disappointment is that Toronto FC actually were the better team, even after Doneil Henry was sent off at the 41st minute. Jonathan Osorio was a revelation in the midfield for the Reds, but it wasn't enough to fend off a last second goal as Toronto will need to keep plugging away to find the elusive second win of the season.
Five losses in a row, in the league, and winless since the second week of the season. Toronto FC drop another three points against a team, that under most circumstances, could be taken for at least a point. However, the Reds could not contain the youth of Fagundez and Agudelo as both scored and TFC had no answer at the back, or in the front. Another loss and looking forward to Philadelphia and the return of Danny Koevermans.
This is what we're talking about as Toronto FC close in on the one-third point of the season. We look back on the struggles from the last month, recent additions to the side and Kevin Payne's comments regarding the team and what needs to improve. It's an open-ended general discussion on the state of the club, and looking ahead to Columbus on the weekend.
Not that is was in the first place, but it has become a broken record and painful each week to discuss a late goal that sinks TFC. A 1-0 defeat off of a Logan Emory mistake leaves the Reds with nothing but heartache as they did enough to come away with the very least one point. Aside from this, there are still talking points, mostly the premier of Matias Laba and the cooling off of Robert Earnshaw. With San Jose mid-week, Toronto will likely be looking ahead to a 10-day break in order to sort out this poor run over the last two weeks.
The Montreal Impact completely annihilate Toronto FC 6-0 and successfully get the revenge their supporters have been wanting since 2010. To keep it blunt, the Reds did not show up and many of their players were completely shown up by an Impact side who wanted it more. There is no player who can leave the field without blood on their hands and it was an embarrassing loss to halt what was little positive momentum the club had built over the first two months of the season.
What else can you say? It's a headscratcher for sure, trying to figure out what it is that keeps the Reds from being unable to secure the result that slips through their fingers in the final minutes. Again they drop points, this time all of them to the New York Red Bulls, as Toronto truthfully did not look the part for much of the game and it only took a few chances for the Red Bulls to score, while TFC struggled to dictate the play. Looking ahead will Matias Laba make a difference, and beyond the arrival of Tim Leiweke? That might be the only silver lining to look ahead to as Toronto have not consistently been good enough over ninety minutes.
Toronto FC once again, AGAIN, cannot keep their opposition at bay, and at home against Houston this time really should have secured all three points. A 1-1 draw was not indicative of the play through 90+ minutes and this result hurts more than the last three where perhaps only one should have been a lock. Darren O'Dea will be piled on, but TFC should have been able to put a 10-man Dynamo side out of their misery well before. It will be a tough result to handle with the Voyageurs Cup coming up this week. Can Toronto make it five in a row?
Toronto FC, once again, cannot fend off a late surge from opposition as an extra time goal levels the score and the Reds leave Philadelphia with just one point in a 1-1 draw. There is no avoiding a discussion on the referee, however, his performance clouds TFC's performance, that on this day truthfully was not very good. Aside from a few players, most notably Joe Bendik, Toronto still struggle to effectively attack and in hindsight a point is a good result for the team moving forward.
Toronto FC reverse roles with FC Dallas as they come back down the stretch with two late goals by Justin Braun and the maligned Darel Russell. A theme is beginning to emerge with this side, and the mantra from Ryan Nelsen that they need to be tough to beat, is materializing. Real character and determination to the final whistle gave the Reds an earned point and they will need to continue this mentality in the weeks ahead against the likes of Philadelphia, Houston and New York.
How's that for glass half full? The Reds might have quite been able to break the late conceded goal curse, but there are positives to draw on in a 2-2 tie with the LA Galaxy. The return of Luis Silva brought an immediate impact, and Robert Earnshaw continues his scoring streak. Defending still is a concern as there is a question mark over who can cover the flanks as both goals came down the right side. Looking ahead, Toronto will need to tighten the reigns if they are to keep moving upwards when FC Dallas and Kenny Cooper come to town next weekend.
After two promising games, and a huge win in their home opener, the Montreal Impact soundly dispatch TFC despite a strong second half. Two goals in the first half held off Toronto and even with a late surge, it was too little too late. With so much turnaround, against a more cohesive team, Toronto will always be a step off and the next two weeks will be critical in getting the team more players and cohesion.

A Robert Earnshaw brace proved last week was no fluke as his early energy this time resulted in a goal and he followed it up with a penalty conversion. The defence held their own through the second half onslaught to put TFC a step ahead of 2012 and give supporters some more optimism in these early weeks of their transition into Season Seven.
Toronto FC begin 2013 much like 2012, and that is with a big, fat zero. The Vancouver Whitecaps defeat the Reds 1-0 and while TFC were able to hang in for ninety minutes, the 'Caps cohesiveness was the difference as the second half was in their favour. For TFC Robert Earnshaw and Kyle Bekker looked the part and now it will be a matter of when reinforcements will arrive to get Toronto into a more competitive state for the upcoming weeks.

For all the talk about needing goals and creating a goal difference buffer, in the end all that will matter is a result. Canada down Cuba 3-0 in a match where Les Rouges had well over a dozen clear chances on goal but only finished three. A 0-0 draw between Panama and Honduras means Canada just needs one point to advance to the Hex. Can they go into Central America, learn from their past mistake a month ago and advance to the last round of World Cup Qualifying since 1998? That will all be answered Tuesday night.
Unfortunately that is the M.O. for TFC in 2012 - even with a game that most would have considered a write off prior, during the game TFC found a way to play well enough to earn at least a point, but as has been the story all year, just can't hold on through 90 minutes. It was a tough one to swallow as the team is on a winless streak that is more embarrassing than the start of the year. With only three games left, one has to turn into a win or they will once again go into the record books for futility.
After all, 4-1 is a step in the right direction from 2011's 5-0 thumping and think that's without the 4+ players needed to get the team on track. Toronto FC began brightly with an outstanding strike from Ryan Johnson, but it quickly came undone through defensive mistakes and the gap in organization and cohesion was evident once the final whistle blew. TFC are going through the motions and it is a tough stretch against teams who are still in the playoff picture - no rest for the wicked and it is looking tougher to see when any reprieve will come for suffering fans.
It's time to celebrate the small things in life, like TFC defeating CD Aguila 3-0 in the CONCACAF Champions League. The Reds are lifted by a Terry Dunfield brace as well as a pair of assists from Ryan Johnson, The team now has something to play for in Torreon, Mexico, no matter how unlikely it is they will overcome the mighty Santos Laguna.
Six months after their epic victory, Toronto FC return to the scene and are humbled by the vastly superior LA Galaxy. It was a mismatch right from the opening whistle as the Galaxy midfield overran TFC's and had their way in the 4-2 win. The Reds are now ten games without a win and doubts are mounting on what direction, if at all, this club is going in.
Toronto FC can't hold on to a lead and drop two points against another side lingering at the bottom of the league. TFC draw 1-1 with the Philadelphia Union, a team that represented one of the last real chances for the Reds to get a win in the league. Eric Hassli opened the scoring but once he was out from injury, there was little bite left and Philadelphia were able to level the score in the final ten minutes. With few opponents left that are as poor as Toronto, this season looks to end much like it began.
Because this seven game winless streak is no fun at all. Toronto FC put in one of the most hapless first halves of football seen at BMO Field as even with a last surge at the end, were unable to climb back in a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Fire. Ashtone Morgan and Eric Hassli looked the part, but the midfield was overmatched and in the final third, Chicago were able to finish their chances while TFC could barely muster up any kind of resistance. With Philadelphia coming to town on Saturday, that represents one of the last chances for a win for the Reds this season.
Team Canada takes out Panama 1-0 to move atop of Group C. It was a critical result for the team who in a must-win were mentally prepared and tough against a tricky opponent. Kevin McKenna and Atiba Hutchinson stood apart as the class of the team and their presence was paramount in the result as McKenna dominated Blas Perez in the 18-yard box and Hutchinson imposed himself in the midfield. With the win, Canada are in a position where they just need to get a point in the away fixture to put them one step closer to advancing to the Hex. Stephen Hart will need to get the right approach in a hostile environment Tuesday night for that to happen.
That's right, TFC all but have bowed out of the Champions League and would need an epic result in Mexico to continue on into the next stage. A 3-1 loss that was achieved through two goals in the dying minutes once again showed TFC's inability to lock down results and soak up pressure. Santos Laguna were just the better side and now there is little to nothing to play for at BMO for the remaining two months - EXCEPT when Canada plays there! Bring on Panama!
With Krispy Kreme burgers and bacon wrapped EVERYTHING at the nearby CNE, not even bacon can make losing to the top side in the Eastern Conference easy to swallow. TFC looked to frustrate Kansas City defensively as Darren O'Dea looks the part from first impressions, but offensively the Reds are predictable and less than dynamic. There are a slew of games ahead against top sides that if TFC continue playing like this, will find themselves back to square one, as in back where they started at the beginning of 2012. It's tough to look ahead without the harsh reality that aside from the team struggling the most in the league, there are few teams they can realistically beat at this point.
The rest of the year, especially by the end of October, being in the basement is the last place you want to be. Toronto FC draw the Portland Timbers 2-2, and remain in the illustrious 19th position in the MLS standings - AKA - dead last. Alot of work in the second half, a goal and assist from Eric Hassli, was undone by static defending as Portland carved their way past a tired TFC and stole two points from the home side. Against the worst road team in the league, that is bad enough, but now Kansas City are coming to town for Saturday and the Reds will need to come up with something big if they are to fend off one of the top sides in the league.
You read that right - 5,000. The Reds smash through their opening competition to the 2012 Champions League, C.D. Aguila 5-1 in front of a sparse crowd at BMO Field. A brace from Reggie Lambe and assists from Luis Silva were enough to see Toronto comfortably through to their next fixture at the end of the month when they host Santos Laguna. In between they must bounce back from a poor loss against Houston and it will yet to be seen if the performance tonight is any barometer on where they will stand against MLS competition.
We hope you enjoyed it. Toronto FC are downed at home by the Houston Dynamo 2-0. It was not an impressive performance by the Reds who showed little outside of set pieces in terms of offensive capability. The long ball yielded little in terms of results and the midfield struggled to provide the link between the defence and attack. It is a new set of tough fixtures ahead in August and TFC will need to shake this off and earn results on the road, no easy task for a team lacking quality depth.
Toronto FC notch another away victory as they bag all three points at Gillette Stadium in a 1-0 win over the New England Revolution. Their first ever win visiting the Revs, the victory has the dark cloud of a potential injury to Danny Koevermans looming over it. Luis Silva notched a goal in his second game in a row, however, it is Koeverman's return to form that has been integral in the team's turnaround. After the match, we are also talking Julian De Guzman and his time at TFC and what is to come.

That's right, the Reds cannot be beaten by their supposed superior national opposition, as a late Terry Dunfield winner secures only the second home win of the season, but an important one in the dying seconds. So much character shown on another impressive weekday performance that saw the team come back from the opening goal, take the lead, surrender the tying goal and then steal all three points. A refreshing change of fortunes for the club and supporters on hand at BMO Field.
Terry Dunfield propels himself five feet off the ground to block a David Ferreira attempt and preserve yet another away draw for Toronto FC. Yet again TFC concede an early goal through sloppy marking, but Danny Koevermans can do no wrong and continues to keep the team competitive. Even though the score was locked down in the first half, it was an entertaining match where the Reds could have stolen all three points had they dug deep enough. In the midst of a tough grind, a point is still a good result when looking at it one match at a time. Still sitting at the bottom of MLS, Toronto will now look ahead to Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon to get out of the basement.
You might miss all the goals! That's right, within six minutes the goals scored stood in a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls. Finally TFC are the ones who fight back and level the score as Danny Koevermans can't be stopped netting his eight goal of the season. With the draw, the Reds have positioned themselves for a streak of potential results as they will face both Dallas and Philadelphia in the next week. But in that period - will there be any new faces coming in, or more importantly, who would exit to make way?
Toronto FC finally get their first road win of the season - and the Paul Mariner era - as they defeat the Montreal Impact 3-0. Torsten Frings lead the charge with a howitzer of a free kick to open the scoring and the now usual suspects of Danny Koevermans of Ryan Johnson chipped in to secure the win. A rare moment of real positivity and a victory has many moments to relish with few negatives. It now is all about looking forward to see if this is simply beating the weaker teams in the league, or if they can match up with the likes of New York this upcoming weekend.
it was the worst of times. Toronto FC once again fail to hold onto the lead as New England complete the comeback and finish the day with a 2-2 draw at BMO Field. It was one of the few games supporters could have circled as a potential win for the Reds and it slipped through their fingers, again. In a holding pattern to finish off the year, there appear to be little Paul Mariner can do to stop the bleeding as TFC desperately need someone of real pedigree to right the ship. Unfortunately that won't be until 2013, and there is still more than half a season to go for Toronto.’’
A road draw is about as good as it gets this season, as TFC draw Houston 3-3. There will be two sides to this result, one that had a brace from Danny Koevermans and an unprecedented three-goal outburst, and the other which was once again abysmal defending that blew a two goal lead, a confidence building win. Realistically the result does not mean much in the bigger picture, but in the short term, a draw is a win and Toronto desperately need to find form to make something of this season.
And it doesn't matter because Canada earned all three points Friday afternoon in a sweltering Havana, Cuba to get the Third Round of World Cup Qualifying off on the right foot. An Olivier Occean goal was all that was needed, as even a red card to Lars Hirschfeld wasn't enough for Cuba to fight back in a 1-0 victory for the Canucks. The confidence cannot be overstated as Honduras comes to BMO Field having lost 2-0 and Canada will have to continue their form if they are to keep the momentum going.
Am I talking about posting the pod or the fact TFC finally won a game?! A little bit of column A and a little bit of column B. A late winner from Danny Koevermans finishes a solid week for Toronto that saw them lift the Voyageurs Cup, then win their first MLS match of the season. There are still plenty of questions and red flags for this team, but one step at a time, as it seems like no one is under the delusion that this team has turned a corner to get their season on track. There is still so much work to do and the questions that have plagued the team still remain. They now have almost two weeks to come together and make something of the final 2/3 of the 2012 season.
That's right, Toronto FC, 0-9 in league play, will represent the Great White North in the Champions League by defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 at BMO Field. We are high as kites going over the VICTORY that has been such a rare occasion for Toronto this year that was highlighted by another 10-man display in the second half that got the job done. Now it's a waiting game to see if the Reds can turn it around in the League against the Philadelphia Union.
An 0-9 start says it all and there are few positives to take from another loss that when you pile it all up, still results in no wins. Dwayne De Rosario underlines the state of the club through a brace to bury his former club, as the was able to score with ease on both occasions. Where to go from here is the question of the year ... for the last five years perhaps? Is how to turn this all around. It's been a nine match broken record and this might not be the last one of the year.
Toronto FC now have back to back results, earning a 1-1 draw with Vancouver in the opening leg of the Canadian Championship. The Reds surprised everyone opening the scoring and looked well on their way to actually winning the game until Eric Hassli sent in another incredible volley to level the score. TFC now have a bit of momentum and will need to get a result in DC and follow it up with lifting the cup for the 4th time.
It won't help them in the MLS standings, but as Dr. Leo Marvin says: Baby Steps. Toronto earned themselves a bit of pride by defeating the Montreal Impact 2-0 to go through to the finals of the Canadian Championship. A rare outing where TFC looked good from the opening whistle and Montreal simply could not find the final ball to hit the back of the net. Now Toronto needs to take the next step and finally earn a point in league play.
A 2-0 loss to DC United gives TFC an 0-8 start and an embarrassing accolade that really sums up over five years of missteps. Toronto started with five at the back, Frings locking it down, but could not hold off the likes of Chris Pontius who finished his chance and scored the winner. Where Toronto goes from here is anyone's guess - if history is any indication, TFC brass are not ones to be proactive or take initiative - so we'll have to wait and see when and where the Reds can ever get a result.
A 0-0 draw with Montreal pretty much says it all. It was not an exciting affair, however, a clean sheet is a start, but in the process Toronto couldn't show any teeth and it was all Impact down the stretch. To take something from this, hopefully no one is injured and the Reds will be geared up and ready to take on DC United on the weekend to try and avoid an unprecedented 8 straight losses to start a season.
Toronto FC are killed by mistakes as any chance of snapping what is on track to be the worst start to an MLS season is undone by poor decisions. A Reggie Lambe brace is wasted by slack defending and mental errors and there is little to be positive about in this one. At the end of the day it's an 0-6 start for the Reds with little signs they can turn it around. It will be a tough uphill climb for TFC to get this debacle of 2012 on track.
A 1-0 loss to Chivas USA was underscored by another match with a complete inability to finish chances. Luck is not on Toronto's side this year and now stand 0-5 to start the season. No team has been able to come back from such a start and it will take more than just preparation to turn this around. Next week is against Chicago and they are a team that has always come to BMO Field looking to make an impression.
Toronto FC are now off to their worst start since 2007, losing 2-1 to the Montreal Impact and giving them their first MLS win. It's becoming a reoccurring theme with the Reds in the league that they don't come out with fire in their bellies and don't have alot of ideas moving forward to create a killer ball. Two goals from Montreal on the counter once again highlights a lack of pace in the middle and defence, as Ty Harden and Logan Emory were not able to cope with the pace of Montreal's attackers. The Reds now have a week to try and get their campaign on track against Chivas USA.
Don't stop believing. Toronto FC bowed out of the Champions League in a very rough fashion as Santos Laguna humbled the Reds 6-2, but the score doesn't tell the whole story. Two penalties did in TFC in the worst way, but it cannot be forgotten they punched above their weight several times in the competition and ultimately stood toe to toe, and beat, some teams who were clearly better. With the tournament over for Toronto, it's 100% MLS ... for a month anyways when it all begins again!
That's right, another season and it's as though nothing has ever changed. Struggling at center back, struggling to finish, as Toronto FC are off to a tough start with two losses at home to start the year, and have yet to score at BMO Field. The Crew were there for the taking but the Reds could break through and now must regroup and get ready for their biggest challenge in history in heading to Torrean to face Santos Laguna Wednesday.
The Reds came in with a gameplan and for the most part executed an excellent strategy against Santos Laguna in the Champions League. However, you can never prepare for the degree of antics and straight despicable behaviour of Santos Laguna who were constantly down for the count and a pair of two footed challenges leading to red cards underlined the melee at the end of the game. A 1-1 draw will be tough to overcome in Mexico, but now TFC have a positive result to get their season back on track.
TFC are dropped 3-0 by the San Jose Earthquakes as once again Chris Wondolowski is unable to stay contained and punishes the Reds for two goals. Toronto were flat footed from the start and it was a performance to forget as they were out of it from the beginning and even when they found a way back in it, could not create anything of note. After two great results against Los Angeles, TFC will need to find a way to get their 2012 season on track sooner rather than later.
Toronto FC took a gamble leaving off De Guzman, Koevermans and Morgan, and with their anchor and top player Torsten Frings going down early on, it meant TFC just didn't have the horses to compete with a side like the Seattle Sounders. A David Estrada hat-trick sunk the Reds and once again raises concerns over a back line that doesn't look like it can compete without a sweeper to clean things up. Toronto will have a week to recover and try to get things right before hosting San Jose in their home-opener next weekend.
TFC are through to the Champions League Semi Finals and they do it in style with two beautiful goals that were supported by outstanding goalkeeping. Everyone pulled their weight as it was always going to take a full team effort to overthrow the MLS Cup Champions LA Galaxy.
Then the rest will be ok and back to the usual stuff you're used to. Tim Vickery and Spark set up the show for the 2012 season by going over the Champions League tilt with the LA Galaxy in front of an exceptional crowd of 47,000 at the Rogers Centre, then look to the away leg and take it home looking towards the start of the MLS season.
A late equalizer finishes off year five exactly like year one as Toronto FC draw New England 2-2. What a whirlwind five seasons it has been for both clubs, with New England struggling and Toronto still hoping for better days. The Dutch influence was in effect today as Nick Soolsma and Danny Koevermans scored both goals. We look at the game that was and the team that will be in 2012.
Toronto FC did well to stifle New York over 88 minutes and put in a good showing with the young player stepping up and making an impact. Once again Danny Koevermans proves his worth as his opening goal was was clinical, but like Pumas mid-week, his absence meant the end of the attack and without better quality in defence it was only matter of time. With nothing to play for in the league, all eyes will now go to Dallas after the international break.
Aron Winter knew the approach he needed to take against a technically superior side, and gets the minimum result required to still fight another day - October 18th against Dallas. Richard Eckersley once again stood out and the back four/five were able to soak up pressure with help from the woodwork. Spark and Andre run through the match, formation and players who made the difference in a redeeming performance.
A huge defensive effort from Toronto FC earns them all three points against the Colorado Rapids in a 2-1 win at BMO Field. A streak at home against the Rapids continues, who have never left Toronto with any points, as the Reds were the team to regain some form after a tough mid-week loss. After a listless first half, Toronto came out and Danny Koevermans, Eric Avila and Ashtone Morgan all played to a higher level to ultimately win the game.
San Jose once again find a late equalizer at BMO Field and Toronto FC get to look forward to the Champions League for the rest of this season. A 1-1 draw after a suspicious offside call on Joao Plata erased an insurance goal leaves supporters with a bitter taste in their mouth. We try to look on the bright side as we ate up deep fried twinkies and watched a KISS cover band at the CNE, but that will likely only make us feel more sick after watching the replay of Plata's 'non'-goal. There's a lengthy break for TFC and hopefully they come back recharged to end the season on a high note.
Capitol V. Finally Toronto FC have a win over a top level opponent and give supporters hope that this team is on the ascent. Defeating Real Salt Lake at home is no easy task and Aron Winter made many of the right decisions to ensure his team came out with the win. Milos Kocic more than earned his MOM honours making two key saves down the stretch. It is high optimism now with a great result and it will be needed as the Reds begin a tough final third of the season.
A win is a win? As much as TFC need a 'W', and 2-1 usually would be something to celebrate, an unconvincing scoreline will hurt Toronto in the short-term as Aron Winter now will have tough roster decisions with the games ahead. Spark and Andre go over the win, but how it impacts the approach of Portland and the return leg against Real Esteli and where the team is sitting at this point of the campaign.
Of course losing to FC Dallas 1-0 at home needs to be put into the context of half of TFC's outfield players have never played with each other, or the five other in red. Torsten Frings stands out as the new class of the team and with some mettle in the middle, Toronto looked more the part. It's a tough grind and the end of this season will likely look to the CCL.
That is right - Toronto FC are now the three-time, consecutive Canadian Champs and will be representing this nation in the CONCACAF Champion's league. Player for player it was one of, if not the, best overall performance by the Reds this season and plenty of optimism abounds. Bring on Real Estali!!
However you spin it, there's no positive way to look at dropping all points to a 10-man Seattle Sounders in a 1-0 loss. Going down a man, it looked like Toronto just didn't have any ideas of how to attack the net and take advantage of their extra man.
No seriously. Nothing. You know it's a boring match when the loudest cheering comes when a squirrel runs into the net. A 0-0 draw with the lowly Sporting Kansas City continues to raise questions on the state of the team and what exactly, if anything, has been built in the first three months of the season. Still so much work to do and now it's just a matter of scratching off the days on the calendar until the transfer window and hopefully an impact player comes in to make this team exciting.
There's no way to slice or dice it, this was a brutal outing for Toronto FC in a 6-2 demolition at the hands of the Philadelphia Union. There are few bright spots or positives outside of ten minutes at the start of the second half. It will be a hard one to swallow as the extremely poor back line was exposed and how much work there is still to do with the Reds is now there for all to see. Where do we go from here?
The Reds are bailed out by weather and will live to defend their Championship for another 12 hours! Who knows when this game will be settled? Will it be May 26th at 11am? Will they pitch be playable by then? Either way Toronto will get fight another day. The lads are soaked and the weather and language is foul for this quick pod. TFC blow a two goal lead and the exit of MLS Player of the Week Plata was the end of the Red's fight in this game and two goals later, and a massive save from Stefan Frei, TFC finish with a 2-2 draw with Chicago. The first half was something to watch as the Reds dominated but someone needs to once again remind the team that the game is 90 minutes long and players like Alen Stevanovic and Javier Martina need to take advantage of their chances when they get them. Lots to discuss from a disappointing draw and two points dropped.
That is right, the shorter the player, the more TOTAL the football. It's the Joao Plata show as the 5'2 Ecuadorian makes his mark and s statement that he should be in the starting XI. It's hard to argue against as for three starts this year he has linked up well with his teammates and given supporters something and someone to stand up and cheer for. On the other side, Stefan Frei kept the win in check and overall it was one of the best games we've seen in recent memory. It's just Spark and Tim and we stick to the game 100% for the second time this year!

The lads are back from BMO Field to deliver an ultra postive podcast where there is NO WHINGING about MLSE, and are so very grateful to be discussing nothing but football for forty minutes. There was plenty to go over on this afternoon; the line up, Toni Tchani's goal and subsequent red card, some nice possession football - many things that looked encouraging and Spark, Stephe and Tim are more than happy to break down the game and gear up for the next few weeks with TFC.
A 3-0 schlacking at the hands of DC United was embarrassing to say the least. Right out of the gate TFC were not in it and after ten minutes is was just a matter of counting down the clock. Not many positives to come out of the game and here's hoping TFC gets it straight this week with Columbus coming to town.
David Beckham's first and probably only Toronto outing in MLS play packed the stadium to the brim, but TFC could not penetrate and get that final chance on goal. Aside from a couple chances, the question now being asked is, really, where are the goals going to come from? Spark, Tim and Steve let 'er loose again on MLSE as games like this make it hard to imagine massive improvements without reinforcements coming in.
It's the first day of post De Ro and the lads talk about what we can look forward to without him on the pitch, which is one big question mark. Maicon Santos all but proved by missing an open net he is not the answer and the Reds dropped 3 very attainable points.
TFC decisively dispatch the expansion Portland Timbers 2-0 in a match that was theirs for the taking. Javier Martina moves from the left side to the right and two goals are the reward. It is three critical points as they won't come easy this season. Spark, Stephe and old school footie supporter Gary Wright are in the house to go over the fine afternoon even if they are still thawing out.
It's the official Pre-Season episode of East Side Stand Up. It's a new season for TFC and the pod, and while the Reds are working it all out, so are we as technical difficulties knock Stephe Perry out of the starting line-up. The lads go over what is in store for 2011 and it's a matter of calling a spade a spade as TFC are likely in for a rough one this year.
Spark and Tim hash out the last month in TFC-land which of course centres around the appointment of Aron Winter and disappearance of Dwayne De Rosario. But most importantly is the lack of substance when it comes to roster depth - what needs to be addressed the most? The lads get it all out before the Reds leave for Turkey and will reconvene when they are back before First Kick.
Well perhaps, as the lads have given some time to let the dust settle, but seeing as it's TFC and MLSE, the dust never really settles. So we go at it - it's the 2010 season in review that ends up being just as much 'the month in review' as well as what Herr Klinsmann will possibly bring to the table. What would be a discussion about TFC without some serious head-shaking about owners, the path this season took under Preki, his eventual sacking and the players that made a forgettable year at least something to look forward to moving forward. Tim is in full bashing mode, Stephe has his talking points written out on seven pages, and Spark watches it all unfold. It's the last pod of 2010 and it won't be long until 2011 so hang tight we'll return in March!
There is still one game to go, but this was the final MLS match at BMO Field for 2010 and it is not far off to say what transpired was a metaphor for the goings-on in the front office of MLSE/TFC. A complete and utter embarrassment where Toronto should have defeated a very ordinary looking Columbus crew but surrendered the tying goal from THE KEEPER in extra time to steal points from the Reds. The lads go through the game but in the end it is too hard not to start looking straight at the upper management at TFC as to how this team has become a failure year after year. As noted, this one is Rated "R", so put the kids to bed or wear a headset as we let them have it for the next forty-five.
The Reds get off to a bad start and were unable to fight back, losing 3-2 to the San Jose Earthquakes. An early penalty put TFC on their heels and at the end of the night, Chris Wondolowski was the man, putting three past Stefan Frei. On a week where Tom Anselmi is trying to justify the ticket price increase, he fails to mention anything about building a winner and perhaps this is why. Looking at year four without a sniff at the playoffs, all that's left is the mathematics to determine what has looked to be the case for the last two weeks. It's breaking down the ninety minutes, some serious whinging, and stern finger pointing at MLSE as who knows when this will turn around for the better.
Well that's that. No more Mo. No more Preki. The writing was on the wall for Mo for quite a while and Preki did himself no favours from the get go. It's an EMERGENCY podcast - no post-game, just Spark and Tim hashing out Mo's tenure and Preki's short term relationship with the club. Jeez, it feels like we just went through this!.
All we are waiting now is for an appearance from Bill Murray. It's groundhog day all over again as Toronto FC drop critical home points, losing 1-0 to DC United to put their post season in jeopardy. It was an ugly affair where had DC had their DP or more clinical finishing, it would have been closer to the NYRB loss. Things are unraveling for Toronto who looked good at one point in the season but have since become anemic and listless. The lads lay it all out like you know they do and try to figure out how we can get out of this situation, not just this season but in the entire organization.
Another home game. Another draw. Another performance that just wasn't good enough. It's hard to fault any of the players for their effort, as every one worked hard and played with energy. Ultimately, this game provided a good comparison between a Real Salt Lake squad that looks to be a genuine MLS contender and a TFC squad that is still a little short on talent. Toronto generated chances and worked very hard, but never really threatened to score. And again and again the touch of the majority of the TFC players was off just enough prevent the team from finding a breakthrough goal. While the starting eleven played a solid but unspectacular game in earning a draw against one of the best teams in the league, the substitutes that came on in the second half both delivered subpar performances that had to disappoint Preki.
Toronto FC could not stack up against 3 DPs from New York and go down big time 4-1. It was possibly the worst defeat at BMO Field and you could see the difference in skill and organization betwen the two sides. Apparently this is what $15 millions dollars gets you. Toronto were in it for the first half and unlucky for the most part, but in the second half the Reds could not stack up and the clinical professionalism that Henry, Marquez and Angel offers was the difference. TFC need to pull it together and fast if they are to stay positive on the road this week in Panama and next week again at home. Is there signings on the way, or are we flying flags in the south end for the assistant coach? This lose is an ominous sign that certain players need to step up or they will be first to go when the season goes.
Top of the table to you!! That's right! Toronto FC sit atop of Group A in the CONCACAF Champion's League group stage with what some (but not us) might call a shock 2-1 victory over Mexican juggernaut Cruz Azul. It was Toronto's from the opening bell as Azul came out cold and TFC made them pay. Perhaps some of TFC's most criticized players stood up and were counted on as the Eastern Block of Usanov and Hrscanovics were instrumental in both goals - which came from Saric and Mista! Money well spent - hats off to MLSE! Now we just have to balance this out with league play as NYRB are coming to town Saturday and TFC needs all points to keep their heads afloat in MLS.
It feels good to be a TFC supporter this weekend. After a slow start but taking a good lead and finishing the game 2-1, Toronto snatch three crucial points to stay in the mix for the MLS postseason. It was a big win because with two games against NYRB, and now a part of the CONCACAF Group Stage, TFC needed to get this win in the bag to make sure they aren't back on their heels going into the toughest stretch of games in the club's short history. With a game on Saturday and the second game next Tuesday, 1-0 might not be ideal but it was a solid win against a good team and should bolster their confidence.
