Despite Popular Belief Podcast: Recent Episodes

Stephen Lauterbach

Reformed, Biblical theology in a culture full of opinions and agendas. Stand before kings! (Prov. 22:29)

This podcast is first and foremost intended to edify the body of believers in Christ Jesus. Its secondary purpose is to witness to anyone who is curious about the God of the Bible or any individual who feels like they have slipped through the cracks of modern church. We believe that Scripture, God's Word, is what should define our culture, opinions, and agendas.

Previously a private, bonus episode from Base Ministry Support (Patreon), today, we're examining a difficult situation: What happens if you die with unconfessed sin, active addiction, or even unintentional offense towards Almighty God?Infamous apologist, Ravi Zacharias, left a horrifying legacy of secret sex crimes despite his life's devotion to ministry that was devastatingly exposed after his passing. Was he forgiven? Was his sin dealt with? DISCLAIMER: Not suitable for children. Season 5 kicks off with some demonic chicanery. Corrupt governments historically have played with demons and gotten away with murder... literally. However, Scripture prophesied that "the government will be on His shoulders."Let's examine 3 examples of governments and their dealings with the occult and the demonic: Haiti's deal with the devil, CERN's god of destruction, and America's deep history in cults. I have waited such a long time for this reunion! Former Cohost, Erik Marti, returns to the show to discuss EVERYTHING. The "No Topic" series was always one of our favorites, so naturally we had to deploy the continuation. This free-for-all discussion covers everything from Erik's surgery, Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, censorship in comedy, evolution, the commonalities between Feminism and gamers, why Erik left the show, and if he will ever return as Cohost again. It was a blast catching up for old time's sake!

"Taking Back the Rainbow," is an article written by Nathan Elfarrah regarding the significance of every occurrence of the rainbow in Scripture. Our culture seems to have taken over that sacred symbol and claimed it for their own. Nathan and I discuss the importance of this Rainbow Covenant with creation in comparison to the reclaimed version which ostensibly symbolizes sexual diversity. I want to encourage you to listen to the interview in its entirety despite any disagreements you may have with the premise. This comes from a place of love, urgency, and glory to God.

This show has changed a lot in the past two years, and now you have the chance to see how it all began! Travel back in time to 2018 when things were simpler... and less organized. From out of the archives I present to you the original "first" episode of Despite Popular Belief, the unreleased prototype. While it was titled "Ekklesia," we probably only mentioned its true meaning once. The episode probably should have been titled: "The State of Modern Church and the Problem of Evil." It was good to hear former cohost, Erik, on this one as we stumbled into what would eventually become the idea for the actual public debut topic of the show: Alien Abduction.

What is the difference between horror films and war films, and why doesn't Greg even like Reese's? We had a blast on this two-part series. Happy Halloween!

Returning guest, Calvinist Greg Hamilton (from Episode 13), discusses the church history behind Halloween. There's so much content packed into this topic that we had to split it into a two-parter.

Part 1 covers All Saints Day, All Hallows Eve, Doppelgängers, battle bear shirts, gargoyles, and soul cakes... also, a public announcement about GPS apps and how to not humiliate yourself in front of Sanctus Real... Happy Halloween!
