The call to Free Palestine is about freeing Palestinians. The idea that we are to centre Palestinians both in our activism as well as our interpersonal relations is a fundamental organising principal for Apartheid Off Campus. Yet, it's an idea that is often overlooked or ignored.
In this episode, we spoke to Alex on the issue of white saviour complexes that deliberately try to place the individual above the broader community. We also spoke directly to the 'Except for Palestine' environment within social justice movements that perpetuates the marginalisation of the Palestinian struggle and Palestinians.

As students dedicated to Palestinian liberation who happen to be running a podcast show, we are deeply engaged with learning about the ways in which Israeli settler-colonialism has historically occurred as it continues to today. The question of land, natural resources and climate justice are central to understanding the ways Israel has sought socio-economic and political domination as well as why a free Palestine includes the right of return. Though buzz words such as 'Climate Change' and 'Green New Deal' are thrown around regularly, rarely is Climate justice discussed within the core principles of indigenous liberation and anti-imperialism.
In this episode, we spoke to Asmaa, a Palestinian student, on the ways in which Israel uses the guise of climate change actions to 'Greenwash' the ongoing atrocities and violent committed against Palestinians today. We break down the ways Israel is guilty of Greenwashing, it's relation to global climate change movements and how a decolonial Palestinian environmentalism can provide an alternative to the situation we observe today.

Apartheid Off Campus has long been inspired by South African activists who through the 20th Century and now continue to resist apartheid structures. In this episode, we were joined by Dr. Anne Heffernan, from the History Department of Durham University. We discussed the role of the South African Student's Organisation (SASO), the Black Consciousness Movement and what we can learn from their activism today.

The Gaza Poet Society is not just of poets doing work against all odds, but is also a hub for the creation of literature that has reverberated around the world! We have long followed the Gaza Poet Society and it is why we were so excited to speak with Mohammed Moussa, the founder of the society.
In this episode, we spoke on the significance of recording experiences through poetry, the ways in which the society has created a community that continues to empower young people and the ways that living in Gaza impacts young people as the Israeli apartheid and siege continues. It was beautiful to connect with the Society and hear the ways in which new futures are being imagined every year through the art of young people in Gaza.

This week we focus in on the struggle for a liberated Tigray. Since we, Apartheid Off Campus, collaborated with the Tigray Youth Network in May as part of the Internationalist Block against colonialism and the ongoing genocide of peoples all over the world, we feel in love with the energy that they bring and the work they day.
In this episode, we spoke to Fay from the Tigray Youth Network on what it means to be Tigrayan, the impact of the ongoing genocide and the role of company and British complicity. This is a must-listen struggle and we are confident that the energy with which Fay spoke will motivate you to be vocal and in solidarity with Tigray just as we will be.

The Palestinian diaspora stretches across the globe. But it is Chile that gets to claim that is it home to the largest number of Palestinians outside of Palestine.
In this episode, we spoke to PhD candidate Nadia Silhi-Chahin on life as a Chilean-Palestinian, the history of the community and dismantle the misconception that Palestinians exist as a homogenous group of people.

The question of why we do what we do at Apartheid Off Campus is one that many people have often asked us. We love being radical and we love our space, but understanding the reasons as to why we spend hours each week working to pressure our universities to divestment from Israeli apartheid may not be the easiest question to answer for people on the outside looking in.
In this episode, we spoke on what it means to study in the UK, the duties we have living in the Global North and how student activism must go beyond just "woke consumerism". In being students we constantly draw on the work of others who have gone before us, but it is important to remember that we can be agents of change, and more than this, that we have a responsibility to enact change.

As we come to the end of Pride Month we have for you an episode on Pinkwashing with a student speaker.
In this episode, we speak about why you can’t just erase queer Palestinians, why rainbows can’t be painted to cover up Israeli apartheid and the power of conscious-raising. We also break down many of the myths that have arisen with Westernised & Orientalist depictions of a settler-colonial state having the “Gayest city in the Middle east”.

We spoke on how comparisons to South African apartheid effectively, the ins and outs of what settler-colonialism means in practise as well as how we can take lead from Palestinians in embedding these frameworks into our work.

We're capping off Season 1 with a conversation on Apartheid Off Campus. 4 AOC activists sat down to discuss our own experience in joining the movement, why others need to get involved and what the future holds for our student group. In just 3 months we have witnessed students across the UK mobilise and take action in an unprecedented manner and as the podcast show for this movement, we took this opportunity to reflect on how we'll be carrying this momentum onto all UK campuses this coming September in our collective effort to Kick Apartheid Off Campus.
For this year’s Kashmir Solidarity Day on August 15, we were joined by Hasan, a Kashmiri student activist. We discussed the tangible connections between the Kashmiri and Palestinian struggles for liberation, and in particular, the role of academia literature in furthering oppression around the world. No one is free until all of us are free, and at AOC we place huge importance on standing in solidarity with our siblings fighting for peace and justice around the world.
From Kashmir to Palestine, occupation is a crime!
This week we had the privilege of speaking to Malak Mattar - internationally-known Palestinian painter. We discussed what it meant to grow up under the violence of Israel's illegal occupation of Gaza. We reflected on her own work and how it continues to transform narratives and acts as form of resistance against Israeli colonialism.

This week, we were in conversation with Sham and Ruvimbo, the co-founders of Birmingham's “more than just a book club”, A is for Activism. We spoke about the importance of radical activist spaces within liberation movements and the role education provided by those spaces plays in the fight for the marginalised. In exploring the power of knowing your history and your revolutionaries this episode will motivate you to know more about those who have shaped our understanding of what it means to be radical. The first of many conversations to come, this week Daniella talks to fellow AOC activists Yasmin and Hatty about women in activism, how to navigate these spaces and what we will see in the future.
This episode we went back to our roots and spoke to Dario and Kvit, two AOC student activists.

This week we were honoured to host Amir Marshi, a Palestinian student activist and co-founder of the Edward Said Forum (https://www.facebook.com/EdwardSaidForum/). Displacement, suppression of dissent and racism are the daily realities of Palestinian student life just like the students’ active resistance. Amir talks to us about his work in creating decolonial spaces at the Tel Aviv University and their importance in the fight against Israeli Apartheid as well as for the liberation of the Palestinian people.

Apartheid Off Campus is a network of student activists that are taking action to end the complicity between UK universities and the Israeli Apartheid Occupation/Colonisation of Palestine. Despite student organisations and societies around the UK having a history of fighting for social and environmental justice, from LGBT+ rights to Student Unions divesting from fossil fuel companies, UK universities remain deeply complicit with Israel’s apartheid regime through their investments and institutional links.
