Hello I am Jon Merrill, a discipleship teacher at Riverside United Methodist Church in Macon, Ga. If you are interest in what it means to follow Christ, join my podcast as we study "discipleship" through the eyes of Jesus and God's Word. We will begin to know God's truths, grow into becoming disciples, and learn to serve in God's Kingdom.
This will be the first of four podcast centered on how "Calls Us..." In this episode, we will discuss how God calls us out to salvation.
The message will be based from the scripture from Luke 19:1-10 and the story of Jesus and Zaccheus.
We will discuss who or what we place our hope and trust throughout our lives--It becomes obvious that Jesus is the answer.
Scripture Reading for Mark 6: 45-32
This podcast will discuss the question individuals face when God's offers His gift of salvation. Some may feel unworthy of God's love and forgiveness, but we will find out that God uses the "foolish, weakest, and lowest" to shame the world. Regardless of your past, God bestows His love, grace, and mercy on anyone who approaches Him humbly and with a broken-heart. God has no use for the self-righteous, wealthy, and proud. He will accept you as His child, and you now begin the life-long journey as Christ's disciple.
"For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'" 1 Corinthians 1: 26-31 (ESV)
