Daily a spiritual war is waged, and war is hard. The battles may seem endless. Our strength gives way, and our hearts break. As God's soldiers, we must get beyond the noise and meet with our commander in the quiet and secluded places. This podcast is such a place. Here, we retreat from the war. Here, we will find reassurance through His Word that there is hope and promises for our future. We can gain battle strategies for our lives, and assignments to win the Kingdom for His name's sake! Let your heart be mended and your soul revived. Together we will pick up our sword, put on our armor, and head out to battle once again.

Chapter nine of Jeremiah may continues to reflect the consequences of sin, but like a flower popping up in a city sidewalk crack, it also emphasizes the hope that can be found. And more: It tells us how to find that hope in the darkness.
Chapter nine epitomizes why Jeremiah earned the moniker of the “Weeping prophet.” God expressed His own deep sorrow over the state of His people through Jeremiah's tears.
And more: God invites us to come close and experience His heart, taste His tears, and allow our hearts to break with the things that break His heart.
Are we willing to be God’s friend and sit a while with Him and listen to His heart? Even if it makes us see the world differently?
Even though we must weep with Him?

I am continuing a series titled "Praying through the book of Jeremiah." We are moving into Chapter eight.
Yes, brothers and sisters, the last 7 chapters have been pretty much gloom and doom. BUT the love and Grace of God are continuously interspersed in Jeremiah’s writings. There’s no place we see the goodness of God as when people have turned away and become his enemies, and yet we can hear by the tone that God’s very heart is bleeding and crying over his people.
This will be exemplified in chapter 8

This podcast is for those needing to fall into the open arms of repair.
Whether you have wild donkeys or tame lambs in your midst, I pray it is like a bubble bath after a long day filled with the noise and mess of parenting. That it is a soothing ointment for the weary soul. That it revives hope in a time of helplessness.

Sometimes we begin our journey under clear skies and dry roads, only to be met unexpectedly by a looming grey mass that quickly brings wind, rain, and poor visibility. It’s not much fun! Although driving through a storm can seem never-ending, keep pushing forward. The clouds will eventually clear, and the sun will shine again as you approach your destination!
I speak of course, of covenant prayer! Taking on a fresh commitment to seek the Lord is often invigorating!
Then the troubles come and the answers we expect do not.
How can we overcome these times of trouble and disillusionment?
In this final episode of our summer series, I will be providing encouragement for such moments!

In this summer series, we will be discussing Covenant Prayer. That is when we feel called by God to seek Him in a certain way, ,for a certain period of time, in order to gain hold of a promise or an answer to a prayer. Have you been praying and praying, maybe briefly seeing things for which you are praying beginning to change, before sliding back to where they began?
No one can force God’s hand, but throughout scripture, we see Jesus moved to action by a certain characteristic. Can you think of what that is?
Faith.
Most of the time, this faith was demonstrated by the way people persevered, calling on Jesus despite obstacles, persevering against the odds. We can grow in, and demonstrate, that same faith when we battle through the difficulties of life and persevere in prayer.
In this episode of Storming the Gates, we will be pressing Pause on the book of Jeremiah to uncover a meaningful way to pray.

Raise your hand if you love coffee! I know I do!
That is why my son took me on a tour of a coffee processing plant when I was in El Salvador recently. It was fascinating to learn the many ways coffee beans are chosen for specific flavors and quality. If the coffee bean cherry "floats" it means it is undeveloped, immature, or has been attacked by disease or insects. It could mean the shell is completely hollow. Yikes!
God is looking to brew a good cup of coffee with us!
In Jeremiah chapter 6, we will explore how we can be sure we will sink when we are tested in the waters of life.

I was shocked to learn of recent events concerning IHOPKC founder, Mike Bickle, and the recent revelations about one of my favorite worship leaders, Misty Edwards, as well. Maybe someone you have loved and followed has been found to be immoral or unethical. We can't help but respond with anger and grief. At the same time, what we consider righteous indignation can quickly become self-righteous judgment. Chapter five of Jeremiah will help us understand how to respond when the Lord has allowed exposure to occur. Praying through Chapter five of Jeremiah spoke to my wounded heart. May it do the same for you!

Are you good enough for heaven?
In Jeremiah chapter four, God is shaking the people out of a numbing belief that unless we are murderers or something, we're all good people, and don't have to change anything.
Is that true?
If not, then how do we get to heaven?

My husband did not want to believe he had diabetes, despite the obvious symptoms.
But when his heart freaked out, sending us to the hospital for a heart attack, everything changed.
He accepted the diagnosis and the doctor's recommendations with humility. We changed our lifestyle completely. He has lost 95 lbs and is not only way more active but happier and less moody. I adore my husband, and I can now look forward to many more years with him!
We may not want to believe we have a problem, but only in accepting the truth about what ails us will we ever be ready to accept the cure.
In this episode, we will look at Jeremiah 3, where God, who has previously outlined the sickness in Jeremiah chapter 2, now presents the cure.
It's a life changer.

Can you remember a time you were “in love?”
When I first met my husband, he was quite enamored of me! He would get off work after a long midnight shift and drive the two and a half hours to my house just to be with me for a few hours! He sent me flowers at work, he happily loaned me his fancy car, he paid for a vacation for the kids and I.
Love does that to a person, doesn’t it?
But what happens when that “First Love” feeling begins to dissipate like the morning dew?
In this episode, we see God Himself reminiscing about his bride's unabandoned and unashamed love. But something has changed.
And that bride could be you.

It was a simple, yet important request: “Lord, teach us to pray.”
Jesus quickly obliged this request with an equally simple, and also important response.
That response is called the Lord's Prayer.

Have you ever been relaxing with a book, perhaps along the ocean, enjoying the gentle lapping of waves along the shore? Then, without warning, a larger, stronger, wave, seizes the shore, knocking you off your feet and carrying flip-flops and toys back into the sea?
That's how I felt about my summer this year. I planned for a simple, gentle-wave sort of summer. As a school bus driver, summer is an all-important time to relax! Instead, giant and unexpected waves of busyness came crashing in and knocked me completely off course. I feel like I've been chasing flip-flops and toys ever since!
How do we handle the unexpected surges that charge into our lives and throw us off course?
The answer is in the Lord's prayer.

We have come a long way through the book of Esther, and we are beginning to wrap up all the great things God did throughout this book with a celebration!

This past week the earth suffered two great losses, while Heaven held homecoming celebrations. Carmen, a courageous Christian musician with a passion for souls, and Rush Limbaugh, a courageous political commentator, both bid farewell to a life well lived on earth.
But is anyone's story ever completed? The battles we fight today in prayer are archived in people's hearts and in heaven forever. Furthermore, those battles won changed the course of history! And live on in the changes enacted by the prayers we prayed on earth.

My husband and I enjoy watching the unique reality show called “Big Brother.” The lovely hostess of the show, Julie Chen, is fond of saying “Expect the unexpected.” A number of twists and turns, ever changing rules, bonuses, new people arriving, and the like are designed to keep both viewers and contestants on the edge of their seat until the very end!
Esther is full of game changers!

Today is Inauguration Day in America! And as I was driving my bus uphill on this cold, dark, morning I realized Esther 8 is also about an inauguration! . God knew who HE wanted raised up in the Persian kingdom. Satan threw all he had at the Jews, Gods chosen people, but it was to no avail! and used miracles, through the power of prayer and fasting to remove the usurper and place his servant in the position he was destined for!

We like to think we are "good people." Noble. We paint ourselves with lovely colors and think all the good that happens to us is because we did something right.
In Esther 7, we see a man who felt the same a mere 24 hours ago realize, too late, he was wrong.

Things may look crazy, but it's only because the tide has turned, revealing some ugly swamp creatures. They will thrash and fight, but it's only because they know they are in very big trouble!

In this New Year episode, we see Mordecai refusing to bow to the arch-enemy of the Jews, Haman. That same arch-enemy is poised to brutally murder his rival.
Sometimes, even though all the world is set against us, we have to stand and keep standing.
The same goes for the year ahead. We made it through 2020, but what is God saying to us as we leave the old year behind and begin 2021?

Esther 4: 13-17, 5:1-3
I saw a gorgeous sunrise today. It reminded me that even the darkness, the glory of God can appear.
**In today's episode, Esther has to take a stand at a pivotal time in her nation. Just a wee lass in a huge kingdom. What could she do? Yet God had placed her right where she was in order that when the time had come, she would rise and move forward, like a beautiful sunrise against a dark sky. It would not be easy, but it’s what was needed “For Such a Time as This.”

One day everything seems fine. Then a “suddenly” comes! A teen rebels, an accident takes someone's life, Covid restrictions cause you to lose a business!
In Esther chapter 4 the Jews were at ease and content in Babylon, when suddenly an edict is issued declaring they would all be killed in 11 months.
What do you do when the “suddenly” hits and takes your breath away? How do you find God when you can barely think, or stop the tears from rolling, unbidden down your cheeks?
Let’s look at one answer today: The spiritual discipline of fasting.

Sometimes we have to circle a prayer need for a season before we see an outcome.
Once upon a time I was praying for our church to have a Coffee Shop. I wrote this request on 3x5 card, stuck it in my Bible and whenever I saw the card I prayed for a coffee shop! That was like a wall that I walked around and around, circling and circling. I did this for a couple of years before one day running across the now tattered card and realizing I had not prayed for a coffee shop or even thought of it in many months! As I held the small card and considered the request, I could not conjur a single prayer for it! I felt then, that this prayer was answered! I didn’t know if the answer was Yes or No, but my lack of desire to pray seemed to clarify I had achieved access within the wall. I could “see” the prayer was completed.
A few months later, through many wonderful maneuvers by the hand of God, my church was opening a coffee shop! I still marveled to see God work it out and bring it all to pass, just because it confirmed God really did put that desire on my heart, and then spoke to me when it was answered!
Today we are going to look at Mordecai’s prayer walk. He couldn’t see beyond the wall, but he never stopped believing as we continue the book of Esther in storming the Gates: For Such a Time as this!

What is Prophetic Prayer?
It is awesome to know God is there. He cares, He hears, and He answers every. single. prayer. Prayers for a place to park, healing for our cold, finding our car keys. It is equally awesome when God answers those simple requests! We realize at that moment that God is real, and He really is with us!
Then beyond car keys and colds is something I would call “prophetic prayer.” It is a specific way to pray. While it can merge with other “types” of prayer, it is something different. When you come to God with a burdened heart there is a powerful way to pray that will enable you to “hit the target.”
Esther 2: 8-18
The Queen is considered the most important piece in a chess game. Sure, the game is ultimately decided by who takes the King, but the King can only move 1 square at a time. The Queen can sail across the whole board in many directions ,enabling her to move stealthily and suddenly. Losing the queen, unless she is purposely sacrificed, is usually tantamount to losing the game.
In today's episode, we will see how God begins moving His queen into position “For such a time as this.”’
Stars don't shine in the daytime. They shine when all is dark. The star of the book of Esther rose in darkness and obscurity. We will see in this episode how the darkness is often God's chosen backdrop to be certain His stars are visible to the world.
I know all to well the pain of trying out for a role in local play productions and not getting it! My kids and I participated in many plays throughout the years. We're a dramatic group, for the most part. The process of trying out for a play is both exhilarating and heartbreaking. You perform for the director, then wait, with bated breath, for "call-backs." The list comes out at last and your eyes hungrily scan it! If your name is not on that list, the dramatics increase exponentially! “Oh no! I didn’t make it! Why not??”
In Esther chapter 2 King Ahasuerus holds his own "try-outs," gathering all the beautiful young women away from the world they once knew and setting them apart for himself in a special palace.
2 Chronicles 16:9 “ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of themwhose heart is perfect toward him.“
Ezekiel 9:4 “And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.“
Before there was Queen Esther, there was Queen Vashti. Both women were elegant and beautiful, and both were chosen by the King! But there was one difference: A difference that would determine not only the fate of the women, But the fate of their nation.

Esther 1:1-12
This is the first in a new series on the book of Esther. Esther was used by God to save a nation. Today this book is a blueprint for us to save a nation, and America needs saving!

Vashti was beautiful and surrounded by opulence. Yet for some reason she answered the King in a way that ended her royal career.
