· Always think about your customer service and the value you are providing.

· We have a lot of things we can learn from other countries and vice versa.

· Show up, be there, and be accountable at all times.

About Bruce Talley:

I am an American businessman, now residing in Encinitas, California, after almost 10 years in Russia and 1 in Brazil. While in Russia, I lived in Sochi (home of the 2014 Winter Games) for almost 4 years, where I founded the successful events firm- Destination Sochi. Destination Sochi provided services to Olympic broadcasters, sponsors and partners in the 2 year period before and during the 2014 Winter Games. It was the largest and most successful of the firms to do so. Later, I opened Destination Rio in Brazil and provided the same services to companies there.

I was born in South Dakota, where I grew up on a farm and attended South Dakota State University. I paid for my education by working on fishing boats in the Gulf of Alaska in the summers. After finishing university, I moved to California, where I worked for several investment banking firms, including a stint of 17 years with one company as one of its top producers. After this, I decided that I wanted to take part in the growth that I witnessed in Russia. So, I studied Russian with a tutor in California and later moved there. I had much experience in Russia buying and selling property and working on various development projects in the Black Sea Region. I also spent several years cultivating political and business contacts in the Republic of Abkhazia and advised the government on privatization of their state-owned projects.

Today on the episode 31 of the Sage Executive Podcast, join our host Fernando Corona and his guest, Kyle Wilz, as they talk about helping aspiring entrepreneurs from different work fields to start a side hustle or achieve a potential full-time source of income. Kyle is the Co-owner of Kornerstone Business Coaching, along with his wife; they guide people who want to be entrepreneurs but still do not know what and how to do it.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

· A successful civil engineer transitioning to becoming an entrepreneur.

· What is their strategy for attracting their clients? It is essential to know the type of people you want to work with.

· Leadership is like the ultimate competition and the challenge of growth. There's always more to do, there's more to change, and there's more to get better at.

· It is important to take a step back when you feel like you need to. Sometimes slowing down allows you to speed up.

· Everything doesn’t need to be perfect for you to take the first step. Take the risk, and learn along the way.

· How did Craig Clickner help Kyle Wilz learn all about the entrepreneurial space?

· And much more!

About Kyle Wilz:

While traveling down the path of building a successful engineering career, I realized that there was no way I could only envision myself on that path long-term. In the 21st century, it is irresponsible to rely on a single source of income. I felt very strongly that I needed to figure out a way to be able to define myself beyond my career. Nothing wrong with being an engineer by any means... I just wanted to explore other avenues, develop new skills, meet other people and discover new opportunities.

Those thoughts drove me to finding my passion in entrepreneurship. I started small with a side hustle outside my career, thinking my first monthly income statement was a whopping $8... but with some great guidance, a strong work ethic and some good decisions, I was able to scale that and match my engineering income in my 20s.

I’ve taken that experience to start Kornerstone Business Coaching, LLC with my wife Lauren. Now as internationally traveled speakers, mentors and business coaches, we focus on teaching aspiring entrepreneurs the mindset and strategy for their first steps into entrepreneurship.

Timing is Everything in Business

Having the right timing is one of the most critical factors for any kind of business to scale and grow fast. The timing might even matter more than the idea itself. No matter how great your ideas are, how prepared your team is, and how purposeful your plans may be, it might not work if your timing is wrong. You must make sure that your target market is ready to accept your products and services. And sometimes, even if you make a lot of mistakes in starting the business, if you got the timing right, that could be enough to scale. Although in most people’s success stories, luck has had a huge role in them.

Imagine selling face shields at a time when COVID-19 has not yet happened, and there is no pandemic. Unlike now, if you do not wear face shields and face masks, you will feel like there is something missing. That is because you need to protect yourself from the problem we are currently facing - COVID-19. And some business owners have become successful in this crisis. They saw the problem we were facing and that we needed protection. They saw the opportunity in these products and started their businesses at the right timing. Comparing the demand for face shields and face masks to then and now, they will most likely sell more today.

If you want to learn more about tracking and capitalizing trends, Matt has launched his new business called the Trend Hackers, helping their clients become updated with the trends before anyone else.

"If you find the right trend, even if you get everything wrong, it could still be enough. If you get everything right, and the timing is wrong, it’s still not going to work." - Mario Nawfal. Watch the episode now on the Sage Executive Podcast! https://www.flyingvgroup.com/podcasts/

Come to Peace with Failure Let us admit it; failing is scary. It’s difficult to make peace with failure. Most of us exert a lot of effort to avoid making mistakes. Humans fear failure because it is mostly associated with shame, embarrassment, the feeling of wasted hard work, disappointment, and pain. However, there must come a time in your life that you should realize and accept that failing is a part of reality. It is not always bad to fail, even when you feel like you cannot afford to. Directing a Team, Realizing Talents to be Developed with Bain Kennedy. Watch the episode now on the Sage Executive Podcast! https://www.flyingvgroup.com/podcasts/

The Importance of Showing Empathy in Your Workplace

Bain said that every person is their own hero, and as a leader, you shouldn’t act as the antagonist or the enemy of their story. And what he meant by that is, be more empathetic and supportive towards your team members!

Everyone is facing their own silent battles every day. These situations are inevitable because having problems in life is constant. These things that they are going through can affect their performance, either positively or negatively. Conversing and actually trying to empathize with them can help you help them perform better. Additionally, you will be aware of why they are not acting as well as they used to. You won’t be stressing out over it compared to if you do not know the reason behind those setbacks.

Trust me, an employee or a co-worker who feels they are valued and noticed will be much happier. It is easy to notice if a person’s intentions are fake or authentic. Thus, just being a friend to them and providing a safe place where they can work. And showing empathy is one of the greatest factors, if not the most, that will significantly help you build a harmonious atmosphere in your workplace.

People do Business with People, Not with the Brand

We must always remember that people do business with people, not with the brand or the company. No matter how high-tech your technologies or how fancy your buildings and equipment are, it all comes back to the people you serve and sell the products to. We mostly hear from successful people that they emphasize the importance of human connection and building a network. That is because in the business industry if you have a great product and excellent quality of service, you will indeed one day scale and become successful. Everything takes time. It is crucial to build relationships with the people around you and create an empathetic culture in your workplace. In some cases, product deficiency can be covered by how close you are with your customers and gives you more opportunities to improve your performance.

Take Time Before Making an Important Decision

Stop making important decisions purely out of emotions. If you get too carried away with what you’re feeling, it might cause you a big opportunity. People tend to decide quickly because of fear, impatience, and pride. They are afraid that they will lose something huge, but what they do not realize is deciding too fast will do more harm than good, hence, forcing things to happen. Like some people in the business industry, they force deals to work even if they do not want to or they are not capable just yet. They will no longer look for a better choice. Take some time before you make an important decision. Wait and gather inputs from other people or any kind of resource. Ask yourself questions if you really think it is worth it, assess the opportunity, and then make a choice.

We Need Human Connection and We Need Each Other

No man is an island, and humans crave connection.

As a solution to prevent the further widespread of the COVID-19, people were forced to quarantine, self-isolate, and practice social distancing. With the new normal, personal interactions have significantly decreased and have become a lot more difficult. We no longer have the freedom to go to social gatherings, parties, malls, our workplaces, and others. On top of that, many people all around the world have lost their jobs because of the impact of the pandemic. And most of the people who were able to keep their jobs have had an increase in their workload, and are working even more. Thus, we are becoming more stressed. The fear of getting infected, adapting to the drastic changes, financial need, and difficulty in pivoting have affected every one of us in one way or another. This is why we need human connection now more than ever. It can be extremely tough and mentally challenging if you’re going through this alone. The relevance of cultivating human connection and building relationships in these trying times goes a long way. The impact of your efforts to interact with your clients, employees or co-workers might save them from even a small or a huge amount of their frustrations. Therefore, whatever rank you are in a company, everyone is still learning how to handle this crisis. You can never be everything to everyone. There are situations that are completely out of your control. We must value self-care and have empathy towards everybody.

The Power of Human Connection

Human connection is one of the most powerful factors that are helping us get through a bad day. Regardless of what position you’re in, in life, you’ll still need and want to connect with other people, even if you feel like you can live alone. Humans will always desire to build relationships and connections.

As a leader, having that ability to connect with others on a human level is essential. This ability will separate good leaders from great leaders. Imagine a member of your team having a hard time because that person has lost a family member, and you neglect the signs focusing only on achieving your personal goals for your business. You will get frustrated if they do not perform as well as you want them to. That is normal; however, you must realize that the people in your team are human. They may be going through something that is both out of your control. Extending empathy and human connection is very important in every relationship. You’ll be amazed by the power of human connection; a simple greeting or acknowledgment will make them feel a little better. No one wants to feel invisible, especially if they’re going to work for you or with you for a few years in their life. Potentially, they may even be work with you for most years of their life until they decide to retire. And by reaching out and connecting with your team on a human level, you might save them from a bad day, or maybe, even from themselves.

There’s an Opportunity in Every Conversation

Christian Lau shared with us one of the greatest pieces of advice that I have heard in my entire life, which is, “Start talking less, listen more and never close a door on a conversation.” As a leader of a big organization, he believes that there is an opportunity in every conversation. Regardless of whom you are talking to, from an audience to an executive. You will be surprised at the opportunities that you may find. Some people, especially from a high ranking position, try to avoid engaging in conversations with people lower ranked than them. The reason may either be because of pride, a hectic schedule, or they do not see the value of initiating the human connection. It is very humbling to hear this advice from a person who is successful.

Join Robb Fahrion, a host of the Sage Executive Podcast, and his guest Anson Sowby, as they talk about the art of saying no. Anson Sowby is the CEO of Battery, a creative ad agency, working with a lot of new brands and big entertainment companies. In this episode, he shares his strategies, advice, and how can saying no help your new business grow.

The Art of Saying No as a Company with Anson Sowby. Watch the episode now on the Sage Executive Podcast! https://www.flyingvgroup.com/podcasts/

Why is Saying No in Business Important?

Saying no is a strategy that will help your company grow. Politely declining offers that you’re not familiar with and that you think you’re not yet capable of doing, especially for new businesses. Most importantly, refusing to work with clients that you feel will affect your company’s mission, vision, and values. Many companies say yes, even though they want to turn down a business opportunity, because of the revenue they’ll receive. Well, not every opportunity is meant to be taken, and some are just not for you. You can be losing a better opportunity if you’re desperate to always be everything to everyone. Steve Jobs once said, “Focus, means saying no to the hundred other good ideas." That’s why it is also very important to have a goal. You have to be careful of the opportunities you dive into and the responsibilities you accept. Knowing your value and the core priorities of your company makes saying no easier. This will eventually lead you to better deals suited for you, thus building stronger relationships. Not saying yes to everything can save you a huge amount of time to work with things you actually want.

Leading with Gratitude and Positivity

Gratitude is being thankful and appreciative about the good things in our lives rather than always seeing the bad. Leading with gratitude ultimately makes you a better leader. Appreciating your team’s efforts and giving positive feedback whenever they achieve something can greatly impact their performance. The power of gratitude is incredible because it can make almost everyone’s day better, even when they’re going through a tough time. Positively and gratefully, just trying to see the good in everything will create so many excellent outcomes and personal growth.

The Role of Innovation in the Times of COVID-19

During these times, the call for innovation has been louder than before. We have been experiencing lockdowns in many countries, new problems that we need to solve, and implemented rules to combat the pandemic that is entirely foreign to our generation. Accordingly, what is the role and importance of innovation in response to COVID-19?

Innovation is what will get us out of this situation. In this context, it means better business strategies, educational systems, healthcare management, contract tracing, and vaccine production process. A lot of businesses and companies have been shutting down because of the impact of the COVID-19. However, on the other side, some establishments are doing far better in this situation because they were able to come up with innovative ideas to solve their problems. As they say, in every crisis, there is an opportunity.

Zack Pevnick, the CEO of California Therapy Services, thought of using telehealth services to treat their patients instead of visiting their houses like they originally do. With this new strategy, the fear of getting infected with COVID-19 would lessen. Not only did he come up with a solution that will make their clients’ will feel safer, but he also thought of the health and safety of his team. That’s one of the responsibilities and traits of being a great leader, always thinking of new ideas to improve the team’s performance and the company’s state.

The Growth Strategy

“Ultimately, growth is a strategy that needs to be organization-specific.” - Mark Tietbohl

Growth is crucial in every aspect of life. It’s a constant ongoing process of development. In business, growth is vital for surviving the fierce competition in the industry. There will always be new competitors, innovative business ideas from other companies, and change in society. You have to learn to keep up; nothing stays the same forever. Most importantly, personal growth improves your skills, personal qualities, and outlook in life.

Developing Long-term Relationships

Developing long-term relationships is essential in today’s reality, especially in the business world. Changing business partners can become a hassle and certainly, no company wants to lose customers. Every relationship you have is essential to the sustainable development of your business to grow profitably.

I’m going to share with you the wise words of Mark Tietbohl on developing and maintaining long-term relationships. Let’s get right to it, here is what he said:

· Do not become complacent.

· Stay in touch with your customers and business partners.

· You need to have empathy.

· You need to respond

· You need to recognize your customers.

Many business organizations lose touch with what they do and provide in the market when they become complacent. In the long run, they lose customers because they can no longer keep up with the constant change in the business world—the more reasons why growth should always be a constant focus and goal.

You need to stay in touch with your customers and business partners. It is crucial to make them feel valued and respected.

You need to have empathy. You need to respond. You need to recognize your customers.

If not, they always have other shop options in the market to go to. You don’t want that to happen!

Being a Servant Leader with Jacqueline Camacho-Ruiz. Watch the episode now on the Sage Executive Podcast! https://www.flyingvgroup.com/podcasts/

How to Increase Your Situational Awareness

Situational awareness, in simple words, is being aware of what is happening around you. This is so important in every aspect of our life because every human is prone to danger, getting sick, making mistakes, and we tend to get lost in our train of thoughts easily. Without situational awareness there would be so many factors that can cause us harm. In today’s reality, because of how busy, stressful, and fast-paced our world can be, we feel like we no longer have time to focus on other things. Thus, we divert most of our attention to finishing deadlines.

How can we become more “situationally” aware? In this episode, Jacqueline was able to share her “zoom in and zoom out” strategy. She said you must make up time to reflect. Zoom in and look at your processes, your systems, your automation, your staff, and your vision for the company. This approach helps you look at details and possible areas in your business that needs improvement. Then, zoom out to see if you’re going on the right path and how far you’ve come - observe that bigger picture. This strategy will help you become more alert and is a powerful approach to solving problems. Especially with large companies, applying this can be extremely helpful with correcting mistakes and improving the overall performance.

Remote working is a situation wherein the employee works at home and communicates with the company through email or social media. It is ideal, most importantly now, because they wouldn’t be able to spread diseases.

You wouldn’t have to commute, worry about work uniforms, and it would be easier to spend time with your family. Your job choices will also not be limited to you where you live! There’s a big chance that you can earn more because you can save more. It’s very convenient. You’ll have the freedom to work anywhere, eat anytime and most of the times work on your preferred schedule.

About Brianna Carney:

CrewBloom was born after the need to leverage the available global human capital.

After quitting her job at Amazon, Brianna spent a year traveling around Asia, learning about the region’s different cultures and traditions. This experience made her aware of global professionals’ untapped potential, especially in lower-costing economies like the Philippines. She eventually met her co-founder, Kate, who was initially brought on to oversee operations. Together, they implemented systems and strategies that empower startups, solopreneurs, and SMBs to afford top caliber professionals. Leveraging the global talent pool allows companies to scale much faster than the competition relying solely on costly, domestic talent.

Zach Pevnick, the CEO of California Therapy Services, thought of using telehealth services to treat their patients instead of visiting their houses like they originally do.

Revolutionizing Our Sick Care System with Momo Vuyisich. Watch the episode now on The Sage Executive Podcast! https://www.flyingvgroup.com/podcasts/

Health Care vs. Sick Care

Viome’s number one role is to revolutionize our sick care system. Why sick care over health care? Momo believes that in some instances, health care will eventually lead to sick care. Given that there are a lot of chronic diseases. That’s why they focus on producing life-changing sick care products.

Here are their differences:

  • Health care is everything that helps you maintain a good health system. This includes exercising, dental care, mental health care, massages, and so many more.
  • Sick care is managing your disease, traumas, and accidents. Included here are the chronic conditions. Unlike the health care that prevents illnesses or pain from happening again, sick care handles sicknesses that reoccur or are incurable.

About Momo Vuyisich:

Besides providing scientific leadership, I focus on product development, conversion of RUO assays into CLIA LDTs, and clinical research. I am also an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Mexico (UNM) and New Mexico Tech (NMT).

Before founding Viome, I worked for 12 years as a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), the Applied Genomics team leader. My team's research focused on developing and applying modern genomics to gut microbiomes, host-pathogen interactions, microbial interspecies interactions, pathogen detection, cancer biology, toxicology, infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, forensics, etc. I also helped set up several turn-key genome centers in Africa and Asia and provided complete staff training in laboratory methods and bioinformatic analyses.

It's hard to track down every successful executive and have them share their their wisdom. Which is why we're doing that for you. Multiple days through out the week, sometimes multiple times a day, we're tracking down execs to share their experience in under 10 minutes. We'll be releasing these episodes once a week
