Montserrat Utilities Limited (MUL) has announced a power interruption coming up on Sunday June 23, 2024 from 8AM until 2PM for the following areas:”from the power station to Barzeys, Manjack, Cavalla Hill, Upper Fogerty and Baker Hill”.
Unfortunately, at the moment, here at Montserrat Radio Echo we’re experiencing a periodic serious problem of undetermined origin interfering with our ability to record much of our usually available ZJB programming. Because of that, we’re being reduced to presenting recordings on a ‘hit-or-miss’ basis. We’ll continue to monitor things, and hopefully this will be a temporary situation. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Montserrat Radio Echo is once again taking a one day break to attend to some family matters. We’ll attempt to post a synopsis of recordings plus other postings in all likelihood later in the day on Sunday. We’ve been experiencing internet issues courtesy of COGECO since late this afternoon here in Niagara, which disallowed our recording of ZJB’s 6 PM news broadcast. Hopefully this situation will be remedied shortly and allow us to capture recordings while we’re away. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Twitter has decided to make changes pertaining to the way that it interacts with FaceBook making it less direct and more time consuming for me to automatically post material there, because of that, Montserrat Radio Echo will no longer be posting on their site.

The ZJB internet audio stream is experiencing technical problems and intermittently completely offline. That make recording online programming from the station very difficult, and at times impossible. Montserrat Radio Echo will continue to monitor the situation and will resume regular on demand service as soon as the issue is remedied.
The official opposition sponsored program, “Eyes On The Country”, was not broadcast on ZJB this evening.

Because of that, at the moment, our linked recorded content here on MRE will be restricted to whatever we happen to be able to haphazardly capture between the disruptions to our recorders brought about by those issues. INTRODUCING KATY BLAKE
During the show, we will explore the story of Katy Blake. She was a coloured slave born 1773/4 at Farm Estate. She was the property of three successive owners there, Thomas MEADE, a second Thomas MEADE and Clement KIRWAN.
She was named in a list of slaves there in 1799, the only one with the second name Blake. By 1817 there were six other slaves, all coloured, with the second name Blake.
It is not proof but it looks as though Katy had become the mother of Molly 1799, Nancy 1800, Anthony 1802, Margaret 1804, Betsey 1814 and Catherine 1816.

Today’s Topic : Reading And The Centenarian Part 8 . The abrupt start of the program reflects its presentation in the original broadcast on ZJB.
We’re in the process of attempting to return to some semblance of normal here in Niagara, after several days of no electricity, precipitated by trees collapsing across electrical lines, pushed over by 70 mph winds. No electricity means no heat at our house, resulting in interior temperatures only a few degrees above freezing, while outside we experienced wind chill in the vicinity of minus 20. At times, it was difficult to see more than a few yards outside our mostly snow plastered windows, making it quite dangerous to venture forth at all. Snow drifts accumulated to depths of 5 feet across many streets, making it impossible to travel and inhibiting emergency vehicles from moving about. Probably our worst snow storm in 50 years.
We are going to attempt to salvage some semblance of Christmas by visiting family and friends out of town for a couple of days starting tomorrow, Wednesday the 28th returning on Friday the 30th. In the interim, I will be letting our recordings run automatically with the hope that electrical services remain on and we are able to capture audio material from ZJB. Should that work out, it’s my intention to post a synopsis of the audio material I’m able to capture.
A quick note to inform our loyal listeners and readers that home base for Montserrat Radio Echo here in the Niagara region of southern Ontario Canada is currently under a blizzard warning, which will potentially consist of 120 kph winds dumping perhaps a meter or more of fresh “lake effect” snow on us. These conditions are expected to begin Friday (December 23) and persist for at least the following 24-48 hours. Because of that, power interruptions are a distinct possibility, which of course would disrupt our ability to record and present audio content or access the internet in general. I’ll continue to keep an eye on things and to post material to the best of my ability, given the circumstances.

Regular programming on ZJB didn’t start until after 8 AM this morning, previous to that it was music only. Because of that, our regular on demand early morning offerings are unavailable today on Radio Montserrat Echo.
Periodic interruptions in today’s edition of the program were attributed by Lenny to electricity outages on the island.
A nearly nine hour internet failure in this part of Niagara prevented us from recording this morning’s ZJB audio content. Because of that, our usual Thursday morning material will be unavailable on demand here on Montserrat Radio Echo.
