After high school in England, Mark studied Geography at Oxford University, focusing on Climate Research. After university, Mark took up an internship position at Futures in the UK, which is a global sports business consultancy. Futures gave Mark the opportunity to move to Australia, which he did in 2015, from London to Sydney.
Mark then led the opening of the Futures Melbourne office, where he ended up leading a team of analysts and working as an in-house consultant at Cricket Australia.
Mark recently left Futures to start his own business, Analyst Economy, which we loved exploring in this episode.

Today we chat with Elisabethe Peart, an Audiologist working in a diagnostic role at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (https://www.eyeandear.org.au). Liz completed a 4-year Bachelor of Speech and Language Pathology at Canterbury University (https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/study/qualifications-and-courses/bachelors-degrees/bachelor-of-speech-and-language-pathology-honours) in New Zealand.
After completing her degree, Liz enrolled in a 2-year Master of Audiology at Melbourne University (https://study.unimelb.edu.au/find/courses/graduate/master-of-clinical-audiology), completing an internship at a rehabilitation audiology role in regional Victoria before moving back to the city for a diagnostics role in a hospital.
Liz now spends her days testing patient hearing imbalances, where these results are then used by doctors to diagnose and treat their patients.
With less than 2 years of work experience under her belt, she is the most junior member on her team and is a testament to learning from your surroundings every day.

Our guest's diverse career began with his first full-time job as a Media Coordinator for Starcom (https://www.starcomww.com), and has included other roles working in-house as a Media Analyst at Helloworld Travel (https://www.helloworld.com.au), as an Account Manager at an independent creative agency AJF, then onto Asahi as a New Product Development Manager.
CUB’s portfolio of brands include some of the biggest in the market with the likes of Carlton Draught, VB, Great Northern, Asahi, and Peroni (CUB) and Vodka Cruiser and Woodstock (Premium Beverages). Not to mention their Craft portfolio, including 4 Pines, Mountain Goat, Balter and Yak.
Tom was working at Asahi during their merger with CUB a couple of years ago, which we look forward to diving into in this week’s episode.

Clare was first appointed to the Shadow Ministry in 2016, as a Shadow Minister for Justice. She has since been appointed as a Shadow Minister for Financial Services in 2018 and Shadow Minister for Innovation, Technology, and the Future of Work in 2019. Today, Clare is a Shadow Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care Services.
Prior to jumping into Federal Politics, Clare worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company, and was mayor for the City of Greater Dandenong.

During his time, Andrew was heavily involved in canvas recruitment and a key member of the learning and development team.

Today we’re speaking with Habiba, a research engineer and computer scientist at CSRIO’s Data61, specialising in machine learning and data science.
After completing a Bachelor of Computer Science in her hometown of Islamabad, Habiba moved to Chicago to complete a PhD of Computer Science, focused on computational biology. Following the completion of her PhD, Habiba worked throughout Europe before finding her way to Sydney, Australia, to work at Data61.
Habiba’s favourite coding language is Python, an open source language used for machine learning and deep learning, which we loved getting stuck into in this week’s episode!

After completing his degrees, Matt's first job was a 9-month fixed-term contract at Boroondara City Council (https://www.boroondara.vic.gov.au) as an administrator in the planning department.
6 months into his contract, Matt was given the opportunity to work the remaining 3 months as a town planner. This opportunity helped him secure a position as a lawyer at Planning & Property Partners (https://www.pppartners.com.au), where matt worked for 3 years before joining Hall & Wilcox in their property and projects team.

Having spent time at a few different companies, including a technology start-up before landing his current role, Ben is a big advocate for having a purpose behind your goals and letting that purpose guide your decision-making, not the desired outcome. Ben also completed a Computer Science short course at Harvard University, and has made the change from Melbourne to Sydney - a great example of how setting ambitious goals can lead to unexpected achievements.

In this episode we chat to Aaron Giaouris, full-time #streamer on the Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv) platform.
For those that aren’t familiar with Twitch, this platform involves #ContentCreators streaming live video footage of themselves, in Aaron’s case, playing video games to his social media following. Streamers interact with their audiences live and are a big part of the growing e-sports industry.
Following high school, Aaron completed a Bachelors of Commerce, majoring in Finance (Financial Planning & Commercial Law) at Deakin University (https://www.deakin.edu.au/course/bachelor-commerce). Later in life, Aaron completed a Master of Business Admin in Sports Administration through Torrens University Australia (https://www.torrens.edu.au/courses/sports-management/master-business-administration).
Starting his career at Commonwealth Bank, then moving onto Westpac, Aaron works for several years in financial hardship and lending before moving into the #SportsIndustry, taking up roles in coaching and sports management.
Aaron eventually found his way into the #AFL in early 2020, just before COVID struck. Aaron now intends to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues and the challenges social media poses to our next generation, particularly in the growing #gaming community through his Twitch channel and other activities.

At her peak, India competed in the 2016 Under 23 World Rowing Championships in the Netherlands. Transitioning out of elite sport, India took her time travelling the world and working casually before landing a marketing position in a boutique design studio. After an unexpected coronavirus-related redundancy, India is now enjoying the freelancer life as a communications and brand consultant whilst studying a Masters of Design Futures at RMIT (https://www.rmit.edu.au/study-with-us/levels-of-study/postgraduate-study/masters-by-coursework/master-of-design-futures-mc245) to progress her career in strategic design for social and environmental impact.

After one year in the industry, Olivia realised the ballet industry was not for her and returned to high school to complete VCE. In her penultimate year, Olivia secured a graduate job at Moore Stephens (https://www.moorestephens.com.au), where she completed her chartered accounting qualification. No longer than 24 hours after he finished his last exam, Tyson moved to London to learn what living outside of Australia was like. While in London, Tyson worked in a operational contracting role at Twickenham Stadium (https://www.twickenhamstadium.com) during the 2015 Rugby World Cup, before pivoting into a sales role, where he was responsible for finding travellers to fill roles for Au Pair, volunteering, teaching and teaching English abroad programs.
Tyson then returned to Melbourne where he joined Uber Eats (https://www.uber.com/us/en/careers) to help scale their expansion process in metro Melbourne. Upon the recommendation of a few friends and colleagues, Tyson began the process of working at Eventbrite, working cross-vertically with event creators before moving into the music sector specifically.

Today we speak with Liam Gostencnik, an entrepreneur that describes himself as a 26-year-old living out his passion. The co-founder of Bae Juice (https://baejuiceaus.com.au), a Korean Pear Juice Company, Liam dropped out of his university degree not long after his first day, realising quickly that the path wasn’t for him.
Deciding to get some work experience under his belt, Liam found himself working at CBRE in Melbourne, selling commercial real estate. After a chance encounter with the Korean hangover-cure pear juice, Liam co-founded Bae Juice with his best friend in 2019, a product that is now on the shelves at over 950 Woolworths (https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/102336/bae-juice-100-korean-pear-juice) stores across Australia.

After finishing high school at 16, Keren travelled the world during a gap year before starting her studies at Monash University in 2012. Keren’s work experience includes working as a paralegal in a mid-tier law firm in Melbourne, volunteering at a community legal centre and almost a decade’s worth of experience in retail.

Seamus discovered his love for aviation at the age of 16 when he starting flying through the St Kevins College Aviation Program, through which he attained his private pilots license at the commencement of Year 12.
After graduating from high school, Seamus completed an aviation degree and was accepted into the Jetstar Cadet Pilot Program run through Swinburne University (https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/careers/cadetship-program). The course was condensed into 2 years, with the majority of time spent at Moorabin Airport. It was through this program that Seamus secured his current position at Jetstar. It’s great to chat with Seamus today to understand the diverse role of a Pilot, as well as to gain some insight into how coronavirus has currently affected his career.

In this episode Luke and Sarge interview Hugh Beard who is a Product Delivery Coach at Xero(https://www.xero.com/au/), a leading provider of accounting solutions for small businesses. Hugh’s first piece of industry education was growing up within a small business family where he witnessed first hand a successful entrepreneurial story, but also the sacrifices that requires.
Hugh completed a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at Swinburne University of Technology (https://www.swinburne.edu.au/). Not knowing what path to take, Hugh moved to the US where he worked a number of jobs including at Apple (https://www.apple.com/au/) as a technology support member and then a Manager of the Tech Support section of the Apple Fifth Avenue in NYC.
Upon moving back to Australia, Hugh joined SEEK (https://www.seek.com.au/) working across customer support and then data analysis within SEEK’s Artificial Intelligence and Platform Services team.

Coming out of high school Georgia initially wanted to study physiotherapy at university before choosing a Bachelor of Commerce at Melbourne University (https://study.unimelb.edu.au/find/courses/undergraduate/bachelor-of-commerce), majoring in Marketing and Management. During her degree, Georgia scored a part-time role as a Marketing and Admin Assistant at a patent attorney's office, where she gained her first exposure to marketing, specifically in the legal and professional services industry.
Georgia’s first full-time role in marketing was at the YMCA (http://victoria.ymca.org.au), where she stayed for nine months before making the move back to professional services. Working in the legal and professional services industry ever since, Georgia is a great example of how working in marketing can lead you into a diverse range of industries.

Lachie then moved across to Built, his current employer, where he juggled full-time work with completing his Masters of Construction Management at the University of Melbourne, which he completed in June of 2020.

Lauren started at university with an undergraduate degree in Psychology, graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science. She then went on to complete it Bachelor of Food Science and Nutrition, recently completing a Masters of Dietetics. Lauren currently works in a private practice at Kinematics Health & Performance in Richmond, seeing clients for a range reasons such as gut health, weight optimisation, sports nutrition and clinical disease management.

In this episode, Luke & Sarge talk to Nicholas Pane, a qualified carpenter working mainly on residential buildings in Melbourne's inner Southeastern suburbs.
After finishing school, Nicholas began studying Journalism at Swinburne University, before deferring during his first year. During his deferment, Nicholas took up work for his brother's landscaping business.
Soon after, Nicholas enrolled in a pre-apprenticeship course for Carpentry at Holmesglen TAFE (https://holmesglen.edu.au) and worked at Focus Construction. Nicholas then moved on to work for Dick Reynolds, to gain more specialised experience and progress towards completing his apprenticeship. Once qualified, Nicholas completed a Certificate IV in Building and Construction at the Master Builders Association of Victoria (https://www.mbav.com.au), further developing his knowledge in the field and preparing to one day become a registered builder.

In this episode Luke and Sarge chat to Georgia Whiteside, an associate lawyer at Johnson Winter & Slattery (JWS) (https://jws.com.au/en) working predominantly in the tax and corporate team. After graduating from Deakin University with an Arts/Law degree at the start of 2017 (https://www.deakin.edu.au/course/bachelor-arts-bachelor-laws), Georgia completed the graduate program at JWS after which she took a 12-month leave of absence to complete an associateship with Justice Steward in Federal Court of Australia.
Georgia then returned to JWS where she then went on to complete a 10 month secondment to Carlton & United Breweries to work on the takeover by Asahi. Georgia has been involved in nearly all aspects of the legal landscape, so it is great to speak with her today.

In this episode Luke and Sarge chat to Aidan Slack, a Management Consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (https://www.bcg.com/en-au/), where he's been working for nearly 2 years after completing an undergraduate degree at Monash University.
Aidan was a member of the first cohort to complete a Bachelor of Science Advanced - Global Challenges (Honours) at Monash University (https://www.monash.edu/study/courses/find-a-course/2021/science-advanced-global-challenges-s3001). Containing under 30 students, this degree featured a strong focus on networking and mentoring. During his undergraduate degree Aidan completed multiple internships, both domestically and abroad, giving him invaluable exposure to different people and industries in the corporate world.
Aidan was a member of 180 Degrees Consulting (https://180dc.org) and landed a vacation role at Deloitte (https://www2.deloitte.com/au/en.html) in his final year of study. Aidan turned a second vacation role in a boutique consultancy into a part-time work during his Honours year of University, taking a well-earned gap year to travel the world before starting at BCG.

- Aidan talks about how management consultants are really doctors for businesses.
- Studying science involves learning to apply the scientific method, forming a hypothesis, testing that hypothesis and analysing the results, which is a way of thinking that can land students in any industry.

In this episode Luke and Sarge chat to Matthew Kalatzis, a podiatrist operating his own private clinic in Melbourne, Australia. After studying a Bachelor of Health Science at La Trobe University (https://www.latrobe.edu.au/courses/bachelor-of-health-sciences), Matthew completed his Masters of Podiatry, composing his thesis on shin splints in runners.
Matthew began his podiatry career on the Gold Coast in Queensland, starting his own business predominantly servicing local nursing homes in and around the Gold Coast area. Matt soon sold this business and returned to Melbourne to open his current business, Comfort Feet (https://www.comfortfeet.com.au). In 2018, Matt was recognised as one of the Best Young Achievers by the Manningham Business Council.

In this episode Luke and Sarge talk to Fiona Kerr, an Osteopath currently working in private practice in Melbourne. Fi studied Osteopathy in a 5-year undergraduate degree immediately after finishing high school. During her degree, she gained experience working as a sports trainer at a local football club, and as a receptionist at a private osteopathy clinic.
Fi completed her mandatory work placement at a physiotherapy clinic during her final two years of study, eventually turning her part-time receptionist role into an osteopath position that she has been working at ever since. Fi discusses the relevance and importance of business skills in allied health practice, this was not something she had been educated in or anticipated needing before having her own practice. The discussion explores the benefit of volunteering positions and the benefit of mastering one skill at a time in practice before rushing to the next one.

- Never be afraid to pick up the phone and call someone for advice.
- Engineers are negotiators, mediators and managers of people. There is so much more to engineering than maths.
- The importance of preparing for important conversations.
- Pursuing a double degree provides students with flexibility and the opportunity to mature before they enter the workforce.
- Don't choose VCE subjects just because they get marked up. Study what you find interesting.

Annie’s intention is to help young adults set themselves up for a purposeful and productive working life. Annie encourages her clients to equip themselves with knowledge about the world of work through career conversations, and accessing the latest information from relevant industry bodies and education providers.
Of the hundreds of secondary school and university graduates Annie has helped with the transition from education to the world of work, one theme is constant; the majority say they do not have a clear understanding of the world of work. TYPP hopes to bridge this gap with young professionals sharing their career stories with young adults.
