Kyle Weingart was gracious enough to stop by and talk about his new movie, Cuisine de la 'Pocalypse.

It's a truly independent film and gaining attention as a clever genre mashup that satiates our need for horror, action, and dark comedy.

In addition to talking about his film, he also chose two movies to review, proper They Live by Film style. His love of classic comedy is front and center, and I had a lot of fun with this interview.

Moviemaker Scooter McCrae burst onto the scene in 1994 with an underground shot on video zombie classic, Shatter Dead. The movie was better technically than most first time films for auteurs in the 90s, and had more depth of subject than most as well.

After Shatter Dead he has gone on to make Sixteen Tongues, a 17-minute short Saint Frankenstein, and a new movie that got a VSP release at Black Friday, Black Eyed Susan.

I would consider any of these movies as must see. Scooter is an intellectual with an anarchic spirit and every project is inventive and pushes genre in new and exciting ways.

In addition to being a talented moviemaker, however, Scooter is a gem of a human and his humility and humanity shine during the episode. I can't wait for people to hear the passion and sharp wit coming from Scooter in the episode. I'll leave a few links below to where you can find his work. Let me know what you think of the interview and if you would like to hear from more underground and SOV auteurs.

Elijah was kind enough to join and talk about his career as a filmmaker, his day job at Vinegar Syndrome, and his passion project Dekanalog.

This was a very candid interview and we had fun talking about the wonderful movies in the Dekanalog back catalog. We also briefly got into a thought provoking topic about why the cinema of certain countries naturally seems more compelling than others. I had a great time with Elijah and I hope you enjoy it too!

Hilarious, yet highly educational, brothers Bryan and David White host Bring me the Axe podcast and 99 Cent Rental.

https://bringmetheaxe.com/

I enjoy their podcast so much that for this episode I asked them to recreate the experience on They Live by Film. We do a fairly straightforward introduction to their history and love for film and then dive straight in talking about anthology horror film Night Train to Terror from 1985. Enjoy!

New interview with Samm Deighan - noted film historian and host of the Eros + Massacre podcast.

Some of you may have heard this before, Samm was kind enough to let us repost the audio from our conversation about Michele Soavi. If you have not heard her podcast yet you can get a sample here, she was nice enough to invite me on as a first guest. Since then she has covered Funeral Parade of Roses, sexual anarchist Rudy Ray Moore, blu-ray anarchist Adam Torel of Third Window films, a Bava episode, plus a conversation with Fabio Frizzi. I love what her show has become and hope this serves as a good sample.

Either way, please enjoy this. I hope my love for Michele Soavi and Italian genre cinema shines through. Looking forward we have some very exciting guests that are just getting scheduled, so the fall season will see a bunch of activity again after a brief time away. Cheers!

For this special episode of They Live By Film, we are honored and excited to bring you a full hour-long discussion with the legendary restoration artist and technician, Craig Rogers, and the legendary film programmer, author and raconteur, Dennis Bartok. The reason for scheduling this interview was for us to speak with the founders of Deaf Crocodile Films (www.deafcrocodile.com), but what none of us were quite expecting was two of the most connected people working in film today also happened to be humble and down to earth film buffs willing to chew the fat over a shared appreciation for movies and preservation.
