Stephanie is driven by the sole purpose of connecting people, particularly those underrepresented in technology, with the tech know-how to transform their worlds.
Stephanie is currently a technology contributor for ABC News where she works as part of the nationally syndicated Strahan Sara & Keke team. Before that, she spent two years as the technology contributor to daytime talk show The Harry Show, hosted by Harry Connick, Jr. She’s also been a guest expert on the daytime morning show Home & Family on The Hallmark Channel, and Sister Circle Live on TV One. Stephanie spent three years as the technology writer for EBONY.com, a contributor to EBONY magazine, and was the originator of the popular Tech2Go column on TheRoot.com. She also spent two years as the spokesperson for HP, Inc. on the QVC shopping channel. You can currently catch her monthly radio segment on The Karen Hunter Show on Sirius XM and hear regular tech segments on WDAS-FM in Philadelphia as well. And Stephanie uses social media to help thousands of people understand tech basics with her weekly 60-Second Tech Break on Instagram & Twitter (@TechLifeSteph). Helping students is a passion that drives Stephanie, and she has channeled this motivation into a seminar called ‘Til Death Do You Tweet. The seminar, tailored to either students, parents, or professionals, helps them understand the potential negative consequences of online behavior - especially through social media - and gives helpful advice on how people can maintain a positive reputation in cyberspace. Her book “Don’t Let Your Digital Footprint Kick You in the Butt!” expands on these concepts and is due to launch in August 2020.

Amanda Brennan is Tumblr’s internet librarian who currently leads their content and social teams. After graduating with her MLIS from Rutgers University, she began her career at Know Your Meme, researching the history of internet phenomena and niche subcultures. She has been at Tumblr since 2013 where she spearheaded The Fandometrics, Tumblr’s weekly ranking of entertainment fandoms on the platform, which Paste Magazine asserted should be "given a permanent place in pop culture’s critical metrics tool belt." She has spoken about internet history at conferences across the US , with topics ranging from Slender Man to cat videos, the latter of which she discussed in the BBC Four documentary How To Go Viral. Dr. Goldkind is an associate professor at Fordham’s Graduate School of Social Service. She is also the editor of the Journal of Technology in Human Services. Dr. Goldkind’s current research has two strands: technology implementation in the human services and nonprofits and the social justice and ethics implications of data collection, use and dissemination in community based organizations.
Wherever possible she combines both ICT and social justice for a blend of tech enhanced civic engagement and improved organizational functioning. She holds an M.S.W. from SUNY Stony Brook with a concentration in planning, administration, and research and a PhD from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. Dr. Goldkind is also a past visiting research fellow at the UN University on Computing in Society, Macau, SAR, China.

Pat McAndrew is an actor, writer, international speaker, podcast host, and musician based in New York City. He performs and develops evocative performances and shows, often about technology's impact on human relationships. Pat is particularly interested in using theatre, film, and media as a gateway to learning about the Internet and social media's influence on our decisions, habits, and lifestyles.
Pat has taken the stage, not only as a performer, but as a speaker as well, sharing his take on how we can be more human in the age of technology. He has spoken at international conferences, on college campuses, and at community events on topics related to enhancing our relationships in the technological revolution. Pat's one-man show, REEL, which deals with the impact that excessive technology use has on human relationships, was performed in the 2017 United Solo Theatre Festival, the largest solo theatre festival in the world. His other one-man show, The Other Scottish Play, was performed in the 2018 United Solo Theatre Festival. Pat is a member of Village Playback Theatre, Endless River Arts, and Svaha Theatre Collective.
In 2019, Pat launched the podcast, SHIPS: The Vessels for a Meaningful Life. Reid Blackman:
Reid was gripped by ethical problems the first semester of his first year in college over 20 years ago. Countless hours later, after reading, arguing, and teaching about ethics, he’s still hungry for more. While his early research concerned issues largely contained within the ivory tower, his research has become increasingly action-orientated, particularly as it concerns the ethics of institutions like governments and corporations, and also the ethics of emerging technologies.
He has taught at Northwestern University, the University of Texas in Austin, the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and Colgate University. He currently sits on the committee for “Methods to Guide Ethical Research and Design” for the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems and is a member of the European Union Artificial Intelligence Alliance. When he isn’t doing ethics you can find him with his wife and children, unless there’s rock climbing to be done.

Kat Mustatea is a playwright and technologist. Her recent TED talk examines the meaning of machines making art, looking at what new art forms arise as society shifts radically toward autonomous, algorithmic behavior. Her writing about the intersection of art, technology and society has appeared in Forbes, The Week, and Hyperallergic. A high school math prodigy, she studied philosophy at Columbia University and sculpture at Pratt Institute. She founded a theater company in Berlin and has spent the last decade developing cross-disciplinary works for the stage that combine music, dance, and highly emotional theater. Her plays have been performed in New York, Chicago, Berlin, and Oslo. As a technologist, she has worked as a software engineer and product manager, and is now a freelance consultant. She regularly speaks about art, technology, and culture, and is working on a book about art in the age of machine intelligence.

Will synthetic media be a net positive or net negative for society?! An important thorny ethical debate! Co-hosts David Ryan Polgar and Joe Leonardo recently attended the NYC Media Lab Summit where this debate happened on stage. Right after the debate, David and Joe recorded their reflections on the debate.
Here is the description of the debate, written by the NYC Media Lab:
NYCML'18: The Great Synthetic Media Debate The debate covers whether synthetic media will do more good than harm. What is synthetic media you ask? Manoush Zomorodi, founder at Stable Genius Productions, defines it as everything from "holographic popstars, to new tools that automate workflows, from deep learning techniques used for producing news articles, to highly engaging AI characters". But we've all seen how these tools can be put to nefarious uses by now.
As the debate escalates, niceties are thrust aside and potshots taken. Many great points emerge from each of the brilliant speakers:
Ken Perlin (Director, NYU Future Reality Lab): all art is synthetic media, from Shakespeare's works to Thanos's AI-enabled face, and even as insidious versions surface, we have the right people and community leaders to help us get together as a society and establish truth and rationality.
Eli Pariser (Omidyar Fellow, New America Foundation): all media is synthetic (ex. edited news clips), so we can't divorce the content from those who made it - synthetic media will lead us to question the veracity of things and look at the author for answers.
Matthew Hartman (Partner, Betaworks Ventures): there are few good instances of synthetic media out there, a lot of "nice to have" ideas, but the examples we see out in the world today have definitely done more harm than good.
Karen Kornbluh (Senior Fellow for Digital Policy, Council on Foreign Relations): major entities have always tried to trick us (ex. oil companies "hacking" climate scientists, Russia's disinformation campaigns), but while we can mitigate all this, we've lost the will to work as a society and make tech work for us.

Hosts David Ryan Polgar (tech ethicist) and Joe Leonardo (comedian) take a deep dive with media literacy expert D.C. Vito. We chat about his work at The LAMP (Learning About Multimedia Project), how media literacy is essential for democracy, and how fake news is leading to family friction.
D.C. Vito co-founded The LAMP (Learning About Multimedia Project) in 2007. Since that time, The LAMP has brought media literacy training to over 10,000 youth, parents and educators, transporting equipment and facilitators directly to communities in need of its services. Mr. Vito worked as a community organizer for many years prior to The LAMP, having served in the Peace Corps in Mali, managing campaigns for City Council, State Senate and Presidential candidates.
He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Media Literacy Educators (NAMLE). He was a keynote speaker at the first Wikipedia USA conference in 2014, co-taught “Media Literacy and Activism” at Queens College in 2015, and has spoken at a number of other conferences and events. Mr. Vito currently lives in Brooklyn with his wife, German Shepherd puppy and lap-loving cat.

Dr. Karen Schrier, Associate Professor, is the founding director of the Games & Emerging Media program at Marist College. From 2018-2019, she is also serving as a Belfer Fellow for the ADL's Center for Technology & Society, where she will be making anti-bias games and researching using games for perspective-taking, compassion, and bias reduction. Prior to Marist, she spent over a decade producing websites, apps, and games at organizations such as Scholastic, Nickelodeon, BrainPOP, and PBS/Channel 13. She is the editor of the book series, Learning, Education & Games, published by ETC Press (Carnegie Mellon), and co-editor of two books on games and ethics.
She has written over 40 publications, including single-authored articles published in journals such as Educational Technology Research & Development and the Journal of Moral Education. With Matthew Farber, she co-authored the UNESCO MGIEP working paper, The Limits and Strengths of Using Digital Games as "Empathy Machines." Her latest book, Knowledge Games: How Playing Games Can Help Solve Problems, Create Insight, and Make Change, was published in 2016 by Johns Hopkins University Press. She is also working on a book for Oxford University Press on using games for civics and ethics education. Dr. Schrier holds a doctorate from Columbia University/Teachers College, master's degree from MIT, and a bachelor's degree from Amherst College.

Jenn Halweil's fascination with technology and storytelling may be a genetic predisposition -- her grandfather was part of the team that built the first major computer (ENIAC) led by Grace Hopper. Her father was a social worker who loved bringing home stories of his travels. From a young age, Jenn was instilled with a love of storytelling and problem solving. A nocturnal insomniac, her bed became a late night sanctuary stocked with a flashlight, an expansive Nancy Drew collection, and re-enactments of her favorite strong female protagonists. After devouring her elementary school's library, Jenn moved onto films and a pretty extensive Scientific American collection. In college, Jenn combined these interests, studying media communication and electrical engineering.

Joseph Lubin is the Founder of ConsenSys, a blockchain production studio that develops decentralized application and utilities for the next generation decentralized web: Ethereum. Joseph graduated cum laude with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton, where he worked as research staff in the Robotics Lab and then at Vision Applications, Inc., a private research firm, in the fields of autonomous mobile robotics, machine vision and artificial neural networks. Later, Joseph moved to Kingston, Jamaica to work on a set of projects in the music industry.
