The Minnesota Voters Alliance has filed a lawsuit against the Restore the Vote law which became effective on June 1st. The suit challenges the law's constitutionality. The law restores voting rights to people who have been convicted of felonies once they have completed their sentences, including parole or probation. Rep., Frazier says the move is an attempt to suppress the vote.

EAB is an invasive pest introduced from Asia that attacks and kills ash trees. This metallic wood boring beetle
was first found in Detroit, MI, and Ontario, Canada in 2002. It is believed to have arrived in shipping crates.
Since the initial discovery, it has been identified in multiple Eastern and Midwestern US states. In Minnesota,
EAB was identified in St. Paul in 2009, then in 2010, about a mile away in Minneapolis. EAB identified in 40 Minnesota counties (MN DNR); Hennepin County alone estimates having 1 million ash trees. So if your tree has a red ring around it, it is supposed to be taken down.
During the week of Juneteenth, Second Harvest Heartland is holding four volunteer
events to support North Minneapolis food shelf and meal program partners through an
uptick in neighbor visits due to recent closures of area food retailers like Aldi,
Walgreens and Walmart. North Minneapolis is a vibrant, welcoming community and

June is National Homeownership Month. The interview
is designed to discuss resources and services offered by Twin Cities Habitat
for Humanity for black homeownership.
Separate Not Equal: The Hale-Field Pairing explores several themes including the legal
precedents and landmark rulings that led up to the 1971 pairing; community support and
opposition; racial boundaries in South Minneapolis; the lived experience of students, parents,
and teachers during pairing; measurable outcomes of success; and what all this means for
today. The exhibit has been available for viewing at the Hennepin History Museum, but for the first time
ever, it will come to MPS this week! On Wednesday, June 21, MPS will host an opening event for the exhibit at the John B. Davis
Education Service Center from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. The event will include a panel discussion,

For the first time in its history, the Minnesota Orchestra will present a program in honor
of Juneteenth, featuring works primarily by African American composers.
- The program will be performed at Orchestra Hall in downtown
Minneapolis on Friday, June 23, at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $5, and are free for those
under the age of 18.
- In addition to the main concert on June 23, a Relaxed Family Concert will be
performed on Saturday, June 24, at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $12, and are free for
those under the age of 18.
- Our Relaxed Family Concerts are designed for audiences of all ages, and children are

The event will take place from noon to 6 pm.

The theme of the U of M Juneteenth Celebration is The Art of Freedom: Joy. Resistance. Rest.
The event will feature Black vendors, speakers, workshops, poster showcases, storytellers,
musicians, performers, DJs, roller skating, books, free food, free haircuts, art-making, a bouncy
house, a petting zoo, and more.

BE4 is a girl's singing group that started at Franklin Middle School in 2023 as a part of The
Futureboys and Futuregirls program. The idea started when Franklin’s Futureboys and
Futuregirls group was invited to perform at the Viva City Festival on May 16th at South High.
Students brainstormed ideas of what they could do and put together a girls group titled Be4 and
recorded a song titled "Positive".
BE4 stands for all 4 of us being our best selves and encouraging everyone else to do the same!

Career & Technical Education (CTE) is an academic program available to all 10-12 grade MPS
students interested in earning college credit or receiving job certifications for free. Examples of
available pathways include Healthcare, Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Automotive,
Construction & Welding, Media Arts, Law & Public Safety and more.
In the fall of 2023, there will be CTE Tech Centers at North, Edison and Roosevelt high schools.
Career readiness courses will be available in all MPS high schools. Students remain enrolled in
their current high school and receive transportation to their CTE courses for part of the day.
Students have all summer to enroll in CTE courses. To do this, they should connect with their
school counselor before the end of the school year or they can call the CTE department directly
over the summer to register.

10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students.
10th-grade students can enroll initially in one Career and Technical Education (CTE) course through PSEO. If the student earns a “C” or higher grade in this first course, she/he is eligible to take additional CTE courses while in 10th grade.
