We went full on Intercontinental Boozedancing Madness from North America to Europe. From the UK to Canada to…New Jersey(?!)…to California. It’s the “Travels in Scotland” episode of What We Watch When We Drink!
In the UK we have Dawn Davies from The Whisky Exchange, and in New Brunswick, Canada we have Johanne McInnis – aka The Whisky Lassie – contributing editor of The Whisky Explorer Magazine. They’ve been to Scotland many times. One even went to university there. And in the good old USA, you have your award winning hosts.
Dawn and Johanne may need their own podcast being walking encyclopedias of whisky knowledge. The jury is still out on the hosts though they have sold encyclopedias door-to-door…unsuccessfully.
We chatted about whisky, what makes Scotland so special, and a movie that has whisky and is in Scotland, 1983’s Local Hero.
It’s never a bad time when Dawn and Johanne honor us with another visit to the show. There was laughing, talking with hands, and Costco talk. Need we say more?
Now honor them by checking out this episode from the Boozedancing Entertainment Network. No Costco membership required.

The Boozedancing kin reconvened for another sit down of stories and whiskey on What We Watches When We Drinks. We had some extended kin with us this here time. Miss Ashley Erwin who speaks the truth about Angel’s Envy bourbon and rye came to sit a spell with us. And, lordy, she knows buckets full about whiskey, so much so, bless her heart, she’s what they call an Educator for Angel’s Envy. We can barely reads and do our gazintas and ciphering so having an educator around made us smarter even for a short time.
That being said, Miss Ashley and us talked about a moving picture too called Lawless, abouts brothers in the Virginia woods making moonshine except some lawman from Chicago ain’t fond of them or their ‘shine on account of this being during the Prohibition and all. Lots of movie stars in this one.
Grab some hooch and give us a listen. Yiull be glad you did. Miss Ashley, Angel’s Envy and us at the Boozedancing will be much obliged.

It’s a very TALL episode on this week’s Watch We Watch When We Drink…
Bad Monkey stars a very TALL Vince Vaughn. He’s always tall but seemingly taller on this comedic AppleTV+ crime drama. It’s directed by Bill Lawrence (of Scrubs and Ted Lasso fame) from a book of the same name from Carl Hiaasen which are all reasons enough to watch. So we did. The recently released first two episodes were on our teevee screens, and we walked away dreaming of glorious sunshine and fiery hot music of south Florida, pristine beaches in the The Keys, seagulls and pelicans soaring by, and humidity you can cut with a fishing knife. We may move the corporate offices there for the tax advantages and seafood.
And our special guest for all this crimeing in Florida is a very TALL Travis Tidwell, the Western US Brand Ambassador for Glenmorangie which is home to the TALLEST stills in Scotland. We know a good theme when it smacks us in the face. Travis has been with Moet Hennessy quite a while so he knows of what he speaks as he walks us through a tall lineup of Glenmorangie. It’s a tall order but we’re tough enough to climb that ladder.
Grab a pina colada, an ice cold bottle of beer, or even a dram of single malt. Oh, and don’t forget the sunscreen! Those Florida rays are killer on the skin. And check out this episode from the Boozedancing Entertainment Network from your boat, lanai, or favorite alligator viewing spot.

The gloves come OFF in this episode of What We Watch When We Drink! Love Lies Bleeding is on tap. It’s a a black noir slash comedy slash romantic thriller slash murder mystery slash desert landscaped flick from early 2024. And it stars Kristen Stewart! Who the fck says no to Kristen Stewart? There were fisticuffs, verbal snarls, tripping penalties, forearm shivs, full Nelsons, and that was before we got to the movie. If you like the rough and tumble, the BLOOD, the sex, the BLOOD, plus a very long-haired Ed Harris, this might be right up your desolate old street in the middle of nowhere New Mexico. Since the movie has that 1980s charm, we washed it all down with “whisky” from the era, right off the bottom shelf to quench(?) our dry and dusty thirsts.Hop off your Harley and download this one from the Boozedancing Entertainment Network. Then hop back on your hog, and crank the episode real loud as you rev out of town, Chief. And, hey, Chief, tell a friend about it when you pull in at the truck stop for some jerky and seeds. And don’s piss off Martha at the counter. She’ll blow your freaking brains across the Icee machine if you try that Apple Pay sht with her.Quote of the week: “Let her go right now or I’m gonna call the cops and tell them everything you ever did, how’s that sound, Dad? Dad?”

We’re off to the NOSHO for this episode of What We Watch When We Drink. It’s senior whale shit hockey night as we head to the barn for a night of Shoresy. Three seasons worth of this Letterkenny spinoff! Jared Keeso and Co. have just a beauty of show on the Hulu that follows the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs and their rags to pitter-patter paninis journey.
And we do it all with various Canadian whiskies. Some good, some not so good which is what your mum said to me while she was eating oysters and slurping vodka off my bare back in Ensenada last weekend. Give yer balls a tug, Loser.
Go get a Gus N’ Bruno to pound and download this one from the Boozedancing Entertainment Network. If you don’t, then who the hell do you think is going to set the tone? So dumb.

It’s Ardbeg Day on Episode 49 of the What We Watch When We Drink podcast and it’s a Spectacular one! That’ll make more sense once you listen.
Cameron George came in to chat about all things Ardbeg which he should know a thing or two about since he’s the freaking US National Brand Ambassador for that stellar Islay single malt. We dug into a few of the core range offerings plus a special one. And, we dug into 1988’s Coming To America starring Eddie freaking Murphy and its stellar cast. Spoiler alert: It’s still freaking funny! It’s a twofer: whisky and a comedy genius.
Grab a peaty beverage of your choice – Cameron suggests something Ardbeg – and tune into this one from wherever you get your podcasts.
Special thanks to Laura Baddish for bringing us all together! Just SPECTACULAR!

It was a Cocktail Wednesday on the latest episode of What We Watch When We Drink from the Boozedancing Entertainment Network. An old friend ventured back into our little house of horrors for the festivities. André Darlington, best selling cocktail author, popped in to chat about his latest and greatest efforts: Cowboy Cocktails and Forbidden Cocktails. Two widely different books with the through line of Cocktails.
We dove into cowboy culture in American in the 19th century and what ‘dem cowpokes were drinkin’ while they were wranglin’, brandin’, ridin’, lassoin’, and reckonin’. And then it was a flip of the switch to Hollywood circa 1930-1934 with Pre-Code movies when what America saw on the big screen was eye opening and pushing the boundaries of entertainment. All for a nickel! Big stars, big winks, and big drinks were the rule in these flicks. Andre´ fills his books with plenty of cocktails inspired by the subject matter. Fun, funny, easy, yummy. No, not us. The cocktails, ya big galoot!
You’ll need a 10 gallon hat, spurs, or a tux and negligee for this one. Download today in beautiful Black & White!

Do you want to be a Superhero? Cue the Idina Menzel. Or not. Please not. We don’t need no stinkin’ Broadway singers. If it ain’t Guys & Dolls, we ain’t singin’ or dancin’. But we still want to be Superheroes.
And in this episode of What We Watch When We Drink, we are! We channel the incredible Parr family (minus the red costumes) from The Incredibles, our watch of the week. And we break it all down with our super special Superhero guest, the always incredible Johanne McInnis, aka THE WhiskyLassie.
Bad guys, good guys, family matters, middle age crisis, doldrums, fashion icons, high tech, frozen friends, combustible kids. This one has it all. And we have all the whisky needed to laugh our way through.

Who here doesn’t love a good rom-com-action show? Who doesn’t love seeing a lawyer from a tough childhood meet that special someone in line for soft serve on a Caribbean cruise when Belarus shipjacker terrorists rappel onto the ship, kill the crew, eat all the lobster and Alaskan king crap legs, and destroy the wave pool in a shower of automatic weapon fire while Mr. Soft Serve and Ms. Attorney escape to the ship’s Bluebeard’s Escape Room for some “getting to know each other” time (because who knew this could ever happen so randomly at an ice cream shop on a floating hotel fifty miles from Tortola?) with the din of screams and gunfire barely discernible over the happy but endless Jimmy Buffet soundtrack on the ship’s PA system as our two lovebirds figure out how to save the ship and the remaining fully paid passengers, find the stolen diamonds plus the hard drive with all the tactical nuke launch codes, and schedule a coffee date at the Palms Deck’s Rich & Roasted for the morning after a great run on the track, then a little “me” time in the Red Rocks Fitness & Health Center and one of those delicious vegan bran muffins available with their upgraded cabins which just happen to be…on…the…SAME floor? GET OUT! What the actual heck? What are the actual odds of THAT happening?
Well, we at the What We Watch When We Drink podcast love seeing that everyday and twice on Valentine’s Day and Christmas. And we love love. And serendipity. And gunfire. And martial arts. And secret government entities with unknown aims. And disgusting examples of opulence from ill gotten means. It’s just our thing.
Episode 45 is right up this sea of love as we dig into the new Amazon Prime series, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. These two kids get thrown together in sickness and in health, for better or worse, while shooting, hunting, stabbing, running, being chased, beating up, being beat up, and driving fast while on their magical trip of getting to know each other and building a wonderful life together. Our hearts warm.
And we warm our hearts and lips even more with a quartet of new peated Single Malts from Glenallachie’s new Meikle Toir brand courtesy of ImpEx Beverages. It’s a perfect match: smoky whisky and a smokier relationship. Mmm Mmm!
Sink into the loveseat with a big comfy blanket, fuzzy socks, and a spot of whisky and listen to a romantic story of two love struck kids and blood soaked clothes, with a Single Malt served neat.

Grizzly crime plus screwed up cops is a formula for fun and crazy TV. The Brits have been masters of this recipe for years (see Luther, Marcella, Broadchurch, et al.). Take one or more horrifying murders with strewn body parts, ritualistic symbolism, and a freaked out public. Add in one or more detectives (who are almost as wacko as the killer!) trying to solve an impossible case before said killer kills again (because they will) while f**cked up cop also is forced (or not) to reconcile their own sordid past of mean parents, dead parents, their own bad parenting with their own kids (it’s always about mom and dad!), or unsolved cases from their past that haunt and repress and overwhelm to the point of barely being able to hold down this last chance of a job before being kicked off the force for good. Mix them together and you have a murder mystery and psychological case study cocktail that might result in two to three seasons on a streamer, a few Emmy nods, and maybe a TV movie!
Well, we have all that for you in this episode of What We Watch When We Drink as we check out the first episode of all four seasons of the anthology series True Detective which airs on HBO or Max or HBO Max or something along those lines. Four not-so-buddy cop crime dramas with all-star casts each season which follow the above script.
And we individually pair each episode with some kind of adult beverage. Grotesque crimes require alcohol, and not just to burn/dispose of the bodies. We’re just doing our job and God’s work here, Ma’am.
Grab a dram and sink into Episode 44 of the What We Watch When We Drink podcast on the BoozeDancing Entertainment Network. And be sure to keep the lights on.

Crime sells, baby. So does sex, but we’re a family show and we don’t need anymore complaints. When it comes to tv and movies we like the gritty underbelly world of bad cops, good cops, perps, sketchy snitches, booze soaked detectives, corrupt city officials, mysterious phone calls, failing relationships, messy desks, pithy asides, random dudes hanging out on street corners smoking a dart, rookie cops who don’t know any better, and the entire breakdown of a civilized society. How can you not?
Episode 43 of What We Watch When We Drink digs into two new shows on the streamers. Monsieur Spade (AMC+) starring Clive Owen and Criminal Record (Apple TV+) starring Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo. Clive Owen plays Dashiell Hammett’s Sam Spade not happily spending his retirement in the south of France in the 1960’s. Capaldi (old cop) and Jumbo (young cop) are London detectives investigating one crime that just might be connected to an old murder case. Intrigued? So were we, so we dug into the first episodes of each.
Watching grimy crime dramas requires refreshments so we refreshed with some whisky and brandy(!) to get us through the gunshots, screaming, screeching tires, French and British accents, and dark shadows. You should too.
Download this one today wherever you get your podcasts and clandestine notes and voice mails, but remember, not everything is at it seems.

What We Watch When We Drink is back for ~~2022~~ 2024 with a brand new year of whisky, TV, movies, and “who’s that guy from that show?”. We’re older, wiser, full of antacids, and ready to start cashing Social Security checks.
First up is 1994’s The Last Seduction starring Linda Fiorentino who plays, Bridget Gregory, the girl-next-door…FROM HELL! It’s right out of the sexy-violent-psycho-rom-com Hollyweird genre that doesn’t get enough love.
This one needs whisky so we brought out a few that we came across during the holidays in one way or another.
Note that this episode was going to be sponsored by AARP, Ensure, and LifeAlert but due to our hosts’ endless senior moments, hearing aid issues, back aches, arthritis, runny noses, IBS, CHF, AFib, incontinence, lost Medicare Part B documentation, kids that never call home, elder care abuse, and missing house keys, the would-be sponsors got on the first senior medical van out of town. We can’t blame them. And we’re too cold in our 80° studio to worry about sponsors. Where’s that PA with our crocheted blankets?!?
Download this one today from wherever you get your podcasts and AM radio. And pray Bridget Gregory isn’t your caregiver! Because if anyone can “take care of you” (wink wink), it’s Bridget Gregory…

How’s that shopping list coming? Got the decorations out of the box yet? Anything left at the tree lot? Dude! What are you doing?! Christmas is MONDAY! You have people coming over and they expect boozy drinks and a good time. Get your frankensh*t together! You don’t need the nightmare of last year. Or maybe you want to be pounding on 7/11’s door on Christmas Eve again hoping you can buy some pine scented car air freshener, a few bags of cashews, plus milk, French Vanilla CoffeeMate and a can of two year old cinnamon so you can make “egg nog”. It’s your funeral.
Luckily, we have a huge solution to your holiday cocktails problems because obviously you have plenty. First, you’re going to listen to this very special holiday What We Watch When We Drink episode with André Darlington. He has a brand new book out as only he can write, A Booze & Vinyl Christmas: Merry Music-and-Drink Pairings to Celebrate the Season, which has a plethora of easy cocktails to make for your usually sucky holiday party. And since you know nothing about music, André pairs these wonderful cocktails with classic holiday albums from the likes of Mathis, the Beach Boys, Elvis, the Jackson 5, Cheap Trick, Stefani, Dolly, Crosby, Nat King Cole, Babs, Willie, Frank, Ella and, Dean getting your party in the best of moods, and then you don’t have to play “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” on repeat all night. Just get on Spotify and pick stuff in the book, Mr. Deejay. No one needs your freeform ’70’s “play what I want” crap. You ain’t Jim Ladd (RIP).
And since you also suck at gifts, get your butt over to Barnes & Noble or get it on Amazon now and pick up multiple copies of A Booze & Vinyl Christmas, then give them out as gifts. Duh. And one for yourself, Charlie Brown! We’re doing everything for you except the wrapping.
Now listen to the pod, learn something, then get to the store (not 7/11!) for supplies that André so wonderfully lists for you, and you’ll have a great holiday party. Booze + Vinyl. It’s an easy formula that even you can’t screw up, Ebeneezer.
Happy Holidays from the Boozedancing Team!

Nothing says holiday gifts like whisky. But what do you get the person, the rookie drinker, who is new to the category? Or because you are cheaper than a suit from CVS and don’t want to spend much, what are some good options? Well, we got you covered in this episode of What We Watch When We Drink…
We talk about some great, moderately priced Bourbon, Rye, Irish and Scotch whisk(e)ys that won’t break your widdle piggy bank and be perfect for the would-be drinker in your friends’ circle, cross-training class, or the cubicle near the kitchen that you have to walk by everyday multiple times and say “hi” or nod so you don’t look like the anti-social d**kwad everybody thinks you are, especially that person in the the cubicle near the kitchen.
We riff on rookie whisky choices while we watch a movie about a rookie, a veteran, and the eminent destruction of the planet: 1997’s Men In Black. Will Smith is the rookie. Tommy Lee Jones is the veteran presence. And the planet is Earth! Oh, no! Agents J and K (Smith and Jones) have 98 minutes to save the day in this Barry Sonnenfeld classic sci-fi action comedy that also has a glorious supporting cast. And a cat. Achoo! You’ll need an adult beverage for this one. And Benadryl. We know you’ll like our suggested beverage options. Up to you on the antihistamine.
Grab some dark shades, put on your tin foil hat, close the blinds, and take a listen to the newest episode of the What We Watch When We Drink podcast from the Boozedancing Entertainment Network!

Well, it’s a great day to be out at the ballpark and we’ve got quite the match up for you. Those Pirates can’t seem to get out of their own way these days. And they are lead by their crusty manager, Guffy McGovern, who has been in the hot seat all season. The Bucs are second division club that is surely in need of some divine intervention if they ever want to sniff at a pennant in this 1951 season. Angels in the Outfield is what this reporter thinks they need. Ace reporter Jennifer Paige of the Post-Gazette has said the same. Old Guffy better start praying!
And on the other side we have the boys from Ardnamurchan and their team of single malt whisky. They play the game like it should be played. Smooth, fast, and exciting. They have a couple stars who we’ll be watching closely today.
So pull up a chair and spend part of your Sunday with the Boozedancing broadcast team. It’s “Angels in the Outfield” and Ardnamurchan on the What We Watch When We Drink Podcast of the Week.

And we did get it. A Hot Honey Rye is in the glass on this new episode of What We Watch When We Drink with Dean Caplan from the Catoctin Creek Distilery, making his second visit to the really big show. Dean takes us through fields of bees buzzing and chilis roasting for this new standard expression rye from Catoctin that is flavored with natural Virginia honey and chili peppers. And we drink it all down while we chat about the 1996 film Flirting With Disaster with Ben Stiller, Patricia Arquette, and Tea Leoni, plus an all-star cast delivering the mayhem in this screwy black comedy.
It’s a HOT and SWEET episode. Just like your buddies at Boozedancing!

“Hey, nice marmot.”
We were told by someone or read it online or dreamed it while mattress shopping that there are over 200,000 ordained ministers in the religion of Dudeism (or should it be Dudaism? Whatever, Man.) based on the life of Jeffrey Lebowski. We, here at Boozedancing.com, cannot confirm this number nor necessarily applaud another “new” religion. Did we in this quadrant not learn anything from Jediasm? Be that as it may, we wholeheartedly approve of anything that supports with gusto the consuming of cocktails. Responsibly, of course.
Which brings us to our latest and greatest episode of One Book, One Movie, Many Cocktails. Ok, it’s the premier episode and we’re workshopping the title. HEY! There’s a WRITER’S STRIKE! Read the papers lately?! We’re not used to this level of in-house work. We really should consider going on hiatus until the parties come together. But while they argue over A.I., 6G, and M.O.N.E.Y., we will party on as The Dude and his pilgrims would like us to… with drink in hand..
And we did this recently on a livestream with friend of the pod, author André Darlington, who came on to talk about his new book, The Unofficial Big Lebowski Cocktail Book. Plus we dug deep into the movie of the same name which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Oh, we made cocktails from the book too. We don’t need no writers to get us to read and mix. We’re professionals.
Grab a beverage of your choice, since you have free will, man. Kick off the flips, and hang a listen to the latest episode, Donny!

Remember that night after that hellacious day when the internet was wonky, the network was down, and you couldn’t finish the month-end reports, and the Swiss logistics company was screaming bloody murder for commercial invoices which you already provided – four times, and Myles in HR wanted the D70/155 that you owed him on the new hire who probably won’t last since marketing people need to market and not just swipe away at Tinder all day long, and the VP of Finance practically had an aneurysm because the budgets on the buildout of the new warehouse were only two weeks late, but is it your fault Construction gave you the runaround on the numbers citing supply chain issues, and all you wanted was to go home and collapse with a small shot of something to dull the pain of an asinine day except you realized that there is no small shots of anything at home because you hadn’t been to the market in weeks or picked up the dry cleaning, so you stopped into the local bar hoping to see no one you know, get a quick one or even a simple cocktail then get home to collapse for 10-12 hours if there is a God before it all started again, and by the grace of that same God, it was a new bartender who didn’t know you from Adam though the piercings and tattoos made you think she might have hacked up Adam and left him in a dumpster behind the Esso on the causeway but the Old Fashioned was delightful and Nikki, which probably wasn’t her real name, was attentive enough when she swapped out the soaked cocktail napkin the glass sweated quickly on for a clean, crisp one except that there was a phone number written on it along one edge with excellent legibility; it had to be Nikki’s number, right?, since there was no one else around, but before you could get out a word to…hell, what were you going to say to her, dumbass…she barely nodded to her left and said, “it’s hers”, and went back to her duties while you looked down the bar to “her” drinking a glass of something bubbly and wiping tears from her eyes when Nikki interjected, “Call her. She’s my friend. She could use another friend”, and with that your phone buzzed on the bar top which was set to remind you it was time to take the cholesterol busting statin which also jolted you back to your own reality and away from “her” down at the end of the bar who mysteriously now was sitting next to you rather a bit close which didn’t allow you to turn easily towards her but if you could have, you would have seen the purple bruises on her neck?…
Um, yeah…so that place we’ve all been to got us thinking about those all-nighters that should be long forgotten and never spoken again about which led us to watching After Hours, the 1985 Martin Scorsese movie starring Griffin Dunne, which may be the best all-nighter flick ever which leads us to another episode of One Show, One Drink on the Boozedancing Entertainment Network which never sleeps even if the intranet is down and the elevator is out of order again. After Hours is the show, and Ailsa Bay Sweet Smoke 1.2 Single Malt is the drink.
Download it today, grab a drink, take notes on your own cocktail napkin, and don’t forget to take your meds. And DON’T buy her a drink!

Back when we were making our way through the tough years at Boozedancing Academy Prep, getting through Chemistry 101 was a must. We could hardly balance a checkbook let alone a chemical equation. And the Periodic Table was a just a place to give purpose to the mandatory box of colored pencils we had to buy. Who the hell needs a #2 fuchsia lead pencil except to color in Rhodium?!?
Well, after all these years, we finally found something in ChemistryLand that makes sense to us. Thank you, Elixir Distillers! Your Elements of Islay has saved us and given us the enthusiasm to learn!
Episode 31 of What We Watch When We Drink is happy to feature the new core expressions from the Elements of Islay. “Limited edition single malt bottlings from individual Islay distilleries identified with periodic symbols and batch numbers.” Sounds like chemistry to us!
And while we taste through these liquid chemical compounds, we’ll catch up on all the television and movies we’ve been consuming lately. The Last of Us, Poker Face, Ant Man, Party Down are just a few that we chat about. And we talk baseball which fulfills the Geometry requirement so we can get through the semester and not go on academic probation (again).
Thanks to ImpEx Beverages for the Elements of Islay samples!

Boozedancing has joined the artificial intelligence revolution since our organic intelligence has plenty of holes that surely are beyond filling in. The BZChat6000 UniVac AI Processor and Espresso Maker finally arrived to much hoopla at Boozedancing HQ. After taking the big box it came in and building a fort, we put the BZChat6000 UniVac AI Processor and Espresso Maker through its paces. Once we found the power button, which took a mere 20 minutes, espresso was poured soon thereafter, and then the BZChat6000 UniVac AI Processor and Espresso Maker came up with this about our new episode of What We Watch When We Drink with special guest, Dawn Davies of The Whisky Exchange who came on to chat about cognac and the 2022 film, The Menu:
“The Three Stooges, unsuspecting and intrigued, with their Cognac Master friend sat down to watch the classic comedy, The Menu. With their noses twitching and their glasses ready, the Stooges were escorted into the Cognac cellar to discover the world of aromas and tastes of this spirit. As they tasted each one, the Master searched for subtle nuances, explaining each one. With a firm grasp on the knowledge of Cognac and the craft of blending, the Master happily shared her expertise with the Stooges. They shared drinks, plenty of laughter, and some heartfelt lessons in the importance of friendship. They all left the movie with a newfound appreciation for the power of laughter and companionship.”
Well, that arrow hit the target dead center! This AI stuff may replace us sooner than we think, and no doubt the Boozedancing fanbase can’t wait. Now if we can figure out how to clean the espresso maker part, we’ll be in business!
Take a listen to this one with Dawn as she visits again from her thatchy abode in The Cotswolds. In England! We talk about Cognacs and all the ‘gnacs, but not The Knack. Maybe next time. And we chew through The Menu, a delicious multi-course flick from last year.
As the BZChat6000 UniVac AI Processor and Espresso Maker says…

One should not leave The Shire unless one knows where one wants to go, for the road is not always the one we expect. We never expect Orcs or Trolls or even Men along the way as any journey is both filled with light and darkness.
Good lord, a little whisky from New Zealand, and the next thing you know you’re speaking Elvish and about to go on about Dwarves and Hobbits dancing under the sparks of fireflies, flitting away on a mid-summer’s night.
We head very far south for this episode of One Show, One Drink. We start by sampling through Single Malts from the Pōkeno Whisky Company south of Auckland. New to the US, Pōkeno is part of a new wave of distilleries in New Zealand. Thanks to ImpEx Beverages for allowing to see what’s going on down under!
And we found a perfect pairing for Pōkeno! Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a little movie from the man with his fingers seemingly on everything these days, director Taika Waititi. Set in the bushland of New Zealand and starring Sam Neil, this one just oozes of laughs and heart. We happily climb trees, cross creeks, and scramble rocks in the wilds to watch this one.
Grab a dram and listen in to this delightful episode. If not, we’ll send the Boozedancing Cave Troll after you. Yes, we have a cave troll.

Unbeknownst to us here at the Boozedancing Entertainment Network, we’ve been out of compliance under the National Podcast Association’s Content Code. Seems that we haven’t been having enough Canadian content to keep our membership in good standing which seemed like a high bar for us anyway. Well, What We Watch When We Drink, Episode 29 will rectify that, eh!
After speaking to our MP’s and having a pleasant visit with a few tough but polite RCMP officers at the local Timmie’s for honey crullers and coffee, the Boozedancing powers-that-be convened to discuss a strategy. We met in the conference room and scarfed down poutine, smoked meat, maple taffy, ketchup chips, Nanaimo bars, bottles of pop, and ended with a carton of darts (Thanks, Uber Eats!). Once we were well fed, we strategized how to get get our Canadian content numbers above the NPA’s requirement and above the 49th parallel. After several loud belches, we came up with a plan and a guest! Actually the guest helped come up with the plan. We ain’t so smart.
The result of all that is that we’re joined on this episode by Dave Mitton (proud Torontonian!), the Global CANADIAN Whisky Ambassador for Corby Spirit and Wine in TORONTO. Dave hangs out with us and walks us through three brands made at the Hiram Walker and Sons Distillery in Windsor, ONTARIO, CANADA, and teaches us dumb Americans about CANADIAN whisky.
Dave’s CANADIAN brain came up with a beauty of an idea: let’s talk about the classic movie “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” starring JOHN CANDY (famous CANADIAN comedian and actor) and Steve Martin (not CANADIAN). And we delved deep into JOHN CANDY’s career from the SCTV days right through to his partnership with Wayne Gretzky (The Great One, Hall of Fame hockey player). We also revved up the CANADIAN content even more (just in case) with a very special surprise guest from a far away CANADIAN PROVINCE or TERRITORY (we’re not sure which it is).
It’s a rocking (more Rush than Loverboy) good time of Canadian whisky, the greatness of JOHN CANDY, and a comedy that has become a Thanksgiving (US, not Canadian) classic.
Happy NPA? Have we done enough to meet your Canadian content numbers?! Enough with the nasty emails!
Download and listen today! What We Watch When We Drink. It’s aways free. Won’t even cost you one measly Loonie.

Does anybody remember crime? Does anybody remember sardonic wit? Does anybody remember Chevy Chase? Does anybody remember laughter?
One Show, One Drink surely does. And that’s why this episode zooms in on the 1985 comedy crime drama, Fletch, starring ~~Cheddar Cheese~~ Chevy Chase and based on the character in Gregory McDonald’s novels. Chevy, coming off of the National Lampoon Vacation movies and Caddyshack was a comedy star. And tall. We believe he still is. A star. We’re not sure about tall since we all shrink with age.
Irwin M. “Fletch” Fletcher is an investigative journalist who loves the Lakers, a good crime to solve, a pretty lady, and, we have it on good authority, the What We Watch When We Drink podcasts on the Boozedancing Entertainment Network. How could he not? How could he tie a knot? How could he not tie a knot with church bells ringing? We dig deep into Fletch. Or not.
And if that’s not enough, courtesy of ImpEx Beverages, we have a delightful new single malt whisky from the Isle of Raasay Distillery off the west coast of Scotland. That’s in the Inner Hebrides which is hard to get to unless you have the right equipment and a doctor nearby.
Grab your Walkman, this is a good one.

Aye, aye, Captain! Or should we say, Rye, Rye, Captain?!?
Well, we definitively should say the latter because this episode of What We Watch When We Drink is a Ryemageddon spectacular(!) as we welcome Dean Caplan from Catoctin Creek Distillery. Dean is the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Catoctin Creek and he joined us to talk about the magnificent lineup of Ryes (and a delicious American Gin too!) that Catoctin Creek are making in Purcellville, VA. Plus Dean likes television so that makes him a doubly great guest. Rye + TV = FUN!!! So grab a dram, grab a 50” LED flat screen tv, and listen to some fascinating talk about the neat things Catoctin Creek are doing and what we’ve watched, are watching and want to watch.

Lists abound at the end of year…
Worst Clothing Choices. Best Rap Albums by Non-Rappers. Best Vacuum Cleaners Under $100. Top Baby Names for Parents Who Aim to Scar Their Children for a Lifetime. So many lists. And now it’s our turn…
The final episode of 2022 of What We Watch When We Drink is a rollicking one: our favorite TV shows of the year! There was a spreadsheet that was dissected, chopped, massaged, rearranged, and modified for each of our final lists. Then we took those lists and threw them directly in the trash and winged it. Sort of. Oh, we also drank some delicious whiskey from our own whisky lists to pump up the degree of difficulty.
It’s a fun look back on our year of Watching. Originally a livestream, we’re putting the convo out as a download. It’s a massive gift to you, our loyal listeners. It’s just how we are. And we’re cheap as hell.
We also bow our heads in our year-end In Memoriam segment. Thank you to all those A, B, and C-listers who died for this part of the show. And we open the mail bag for one final look at your cards and letters. Who knew people still used stamps and envelopes?!?
Happy New Year to all of our listeners! We’ll be watching more TV and Movies while drinking more quality spirits in 2023. Stay tuned!

When someone says you get to talk about a Marlon Brando movie, you don’t say when; you say, “Stellllllaaaaaa!!!” No, wait, you do say, “When?!”; then you say, “Stellllllaaaaaa!!!!” because you think you’re so damn funny even though no one under 57 gets the reference and those who do look away in disdain since Brando was so over-the-top and the real star was Kim Hunter who no one remembers even though she played Stellllllaaaaaa!!!!
What We Watch When We Drink goes into the wayback machine with a One Show, One Drink episode that goes all the way back to 1990 when the only thing hotter in Hollywood besides shoebox-size mobile phones was Matthew Broderick. Oddly enough, in 1990 Mr. Broderick starred in “The Freshman” alongside, with, in the shadow of, at the feet of Mr. Marlon Brando, and we are happily honored to laugh at this fun very same caper which got Mr. Brando out of the heart of darkness and into a character with a striking resemblance to…oh, you probably already know.
And while we look back at The Freshman, we are happy to enjoy a little very strong ~~Italian espresso~~ whisky and rum from the second, and recently released, edition of The ImpEx Collection single cask series. We like our whisky and rum at the high octane level and these were right in our streetcar.
Someday — and that day may never come — we’ll call upon you to do a service for us. But until that day, accept this episode of What We Watch When We Drink as a gift on our podcast’s wedding day.
