When thinking of Ambassadors of Basketball in St. Louis, a key name that stands out above so many is Legend Anthony Bonner. Anthony Bonner’s successful professional basketball career was molded right here in St. Louis. A St. Louis native, Bonner prepped at Vashon High School. The USA Today All-America honoree helped the Wolverines to a pair of Missouri Class 4A state championships. He averaged 14.6 points per game and a remarkable 16.8 rebounds per game as a senior, and for his efforts was tabbed the 1986 Mr. Show-Me Basketball.
Bonner carried that success to Saint Louis University, where he starred on Rich Grawer’s teams from 1986-90. A forward, Bonner re-wrote the Billiken record book and remains at the top of several categories to this day. He is the all-time leading scorer (1,972 points) and rebounder (1,424 rebounds) in Saint Louis University men’s basketball history. Bonner also is SLU’s all-time leader in steals (192), minutes played (4,536) and games started (130).
During Bonner’s time at SLU, the Billikens posted an 87-46 record and advanced to the NIT final in 1989 and 1990. He helped Saint Louis to a then school-record 27 wins during the 1988-89 campaign. Bonner still holds the Billikens’ single-game scoring mark of 45 points against Loyola Chicago in 1990. Bonner earned a communication degree from the University in 1990.
Following his successful collegiate career, Bonner was a first-round pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 1990 NBA Draft. He played six seasons in the NBA, serving stints with the Kings (1990-93), New York Knicks (1993-95) and Orlando Magic (1996). In all, Bonner appeared in more than 300 games, scored more than 2,000 points and collected more than 1,700 rebounds.
Bonner’s game also took him around the world, as he played professionally in Italy, Greece, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Spain, Russia and Argentina.
Bonner was inducted into the Billiken Hall of Fame in 1996. He was the Billikens’ inaugural representative in the Atlantic 10 Conference Legends program, which honors former players or coaches who have made a lasting impact on their institutions.
As part of Saint Louis University men’s basketball’s 100th-anniversary celebration, Bonner was voted by fans as one of 16 members on SLU’s All-Century men’s basketball team.

Giving roses can sometimes mean honoring someone. In this episodes, I wanted to give roses to the youth. In particular a young man by the name of Rahjon Williams. Rahjon is a 13 year old kid out of Chicago IL playing travel baseball but has an old soul with his approach to playing youth sports.
When you think of Chicago the first thing that may come to mind is a basketball town. After speaking with him in this interview, here is a young man that saw an opportunity and is taking complete advantage of it.

Congratulations to the Podcast we've reached Episode 50 with my college coach Tim Gray the long time men's basketball coach and athletic director at Mineral Area.
After leading the Cardinals to five MCCAC Championships and one Region 16 title, he retired from coaching in 2004 with a head coaching record of 421-196. Gray served as athletic director at Mineral Area College from 2004-2011.
This great episode, we discuss everything like what would happen if we actually lived our faith to its full potential. Not just make post about it on social media but actually practiced it with simplicity and consistency each day of our lives. Believe it.
Coach Gray also discussed his experience in the classic documentary "Hoop Dreams."

The star of the movie was the late great Kobe Bryant. His influence was able to transform the entire team to gold.

Coaches, I was inspired to make this short episode because someone shared a clip of the a football coach talking about securing a legacy where it counts the most and around the people that truly care about you. So many times we get caught up chasing career titles and sports championships and not really taking the time to reflect on other people that you may impact during that chase.
Continue to work very hard at your craft, but dont let it change you becasue the paper chase. I always purpose chase over paper chase! Tell me what you think about this video.

March Madness is one of the biggest, most exciting and fun events in all of sports. The NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament is a single-elimination tournament of 68 teams that compete in seven rounds for the national championship.
This is the March Madness episode with my college teammate Stetson Hairston on the call-in. He is very well know in the tournament because he is one of the most winningest player in our school history.
As a player, Hairston was a four-year starter for Southern Illinois University when Chris Lowery (Kansas State) & Matt Painter (Purdue) were Saluki assistant coaches. The Salukis won four Missouri Valley Conference championships, made four appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament, and produced a record of 104-28 during Hairston's tenure. Hairston finished his career with over 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds, earning a pair of All-Conference and All-Defense awards.

In my last episode, I had a nice conversation with one of my former teammates about Relationships, the stuff that life is made of. This episode I wanted to expand a bit more and talk about the Relationship Bank Account.
The concept comes from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People/Teens by Steven Covey. The best selling book is a great read for people wanting to improve their relationships and productivity on a daily basic.
Also I wanted to touch on a great weekend of entertainment at the WWE Royal Rumble in St. Louis. From watching Football, Basketball, and Wrestling this episode is a banger.

The spirit of teaching came over me for this episode. Before we can try to teach students how to win games in front of fans we must first teach them the importance of winning the Private Victory within themselves.
This video was inspired after reading one of the chapters in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey. A very power series of books for students and adults. Let me know if I should make more videos like this in the future.

Welcome back to another great episode. Listen to a great story of two of my favorite high school teammates that were able to make the transition from basketball to the business world as young black entrepreneurs once thier playing years were over.
They both took the skills they obtain in hoops and applied that same energy and hard work to the game of life. Jerome "Lefty" Davis of Lefty's Fried Rice and Lashun Washingon taught me the ropes at Beaumont High School and a lot about high school basketball in St. Louis. With student-athletes trying to excel in their particular sport to make the professional ranks, some players struggle with having a realistic Plan B.
In this episode we talk with former professional basketball player and Edwardsville native Shawn Roundtree. Shawn is an actor & entrepreneur and he talks about combining his experiences playing basketball on a big stage to bringing his acting performances to the big stage. He joins us and gives us tips on how students can form a true backup plan.
A 2014 graduate of Edwardsville High School, Roundtree is the program’s all-time leader in assists and ranks 18th on the program’s all-time career scoring list after leading the Tigers to a third-place finish at the Class 4A state tournament in 2013 and a fourth-place finish in 2014. He went on to score 1,095 career points at Central Michigan, becoming the 34th member of the program’s 1,000-point club.
After a nice professional basketball career playing for Kutaisi, of the Georgia Superleague, where he was an All-Star in 2020, Roundtree retired from basketball and turned his attention from performing on the court to in front of the camera.

Golden was the first African-American student-athlete to receive an athletics grant-in-aid for the sport of track at MSU. Golden also played junior varsity basketball for MSU as a freshman. In track, he was a standout high jumper for teams which regularly challenged for MIAA honors, finished third in the league four years in a row in the conference indoor meet and third three times and league runner-up in 1965 in the MIAA outdoor championship.
Golden placed in the top five in the high jump in both the MIAA indoor meet and outdoor meets all four years he competed, including finishing second in the 1962 indoor meet and winning the championship in the 1962 outdoor event. He tied the school record in the high jump as a junior and held a share of that record at the time he graduated. He was also a track co-captain as a senior in 1965.
A great history lesson for grassroots programs, give me feed on the episode.
