Lance Woods isPreparing to start his next adventure which will be a 1000 mile attempt to cross the legendary Iditarod trail which follows some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain in Alaska!I will be traveling with a 1973 Skidoo Elan using only vintage Pre 1973 gear and apparel!
The main challenges will be overflow on rivers and lakes,windblown bare river ice,and relaying loads of gear over the seemingly endless Alaska Range all in dangerous weather conditions and windchill!
Some of my unique gear includes a 1948 British Arctic mountain tent,1936 swedish arctic boots ,a early 1950's US military casualty bag for a sleeping bag,a 1904 candle lantern and much more!
Shelter will consist of the 1948 British Arctic mountain tent,tarp shelters and snow caves!
Lance will be hitting the trail the end of this month!

Maxceleration Racing is a snowmobile performance parts dealer and drag racing team based in Calgary, Alberta. It is owned and operated by Mike LaValley, who is in his third decade of competitive racing. Over the years, we have won championships on snow, ice and grass, having raced and won in every province in Western Canada.
In the past we have competed in almost every class in the sport from vintage to King of the Snow (now called Outlaw). While the team has always been competitive, results improved dramatically when we began to design our own engine modifications. All engine porting and head design on our two stroke sleds was executed by Maxceleration Racing with the assistance of several engine and pipe design computer software programs. While we have moved away from 2-stroke engine work, we now offer performance parts for for snowmobiles and are an official dealer for Hurricane Performance parts and accessories.
Currently our racing focus is on our turbo-charged Yamaha Sidewinders and Arctic Cat King Cat. Our back-to-back Western Canadian Championship sleds were powered by Hurricane Performance parts and tunes.

Lets sit down with Gord Macdonald and discuss the next level in sled set-up! Trying to attach a Linq Trail seat bag to a 2024 ski-doo COMP 850 Turbo R? We show you the mounting bracket that attaches a linq bracket for the seat bag over the ICE reservoir. Looks stock and suyper strong. Gord also launches a NEW suspension kit for the etec 850 TURBO R Competition on this episode which uses a dual rate spring to make the sled handle like a Corvette- the way it was intended.

The Ski-Doo 850 Turbo Competition has a tank for the injection system at the rear of the seat area. This prevents baggage accesories from being mounted there. Gord's Garage has developed a Linq style bracket to allow the installation of Ski-Doo accessory bags to be mounted on the tank.
The Gord's Bracket is laser cut and powder coated and comes with installation instructions and mounting hardware.
Gord's can supply all the components you need to maximize sled performance.

Just try to find a way to slow down Michelle Salt. We’ll wait. Not even a life-threatening motorcycle accident could derail her. Since then, all she’s done is become the first female Canadian Paralympic snowboarder, competed in two Paralympic games, earned 13 World Cup medals, competed as a fitness model, helped pioneer the sport of Adaptive Wake Surfing, won two national silver medals in wake surfing, occasionally jumps out of perfectly good airplanes at 13,00 feet and discovered a passion for that Ski-Doo feeling.

Troy Oleson was born and raised in the Northwoods of Wisconsin – home to good old fashioned Midwestern winters. The snow-drifted ditches are deep and the trails through trees are tight, but the beauty is often something to behold. Originally from Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Oleson is a third-generation Ski-Doo rider who cut his teeth like most riders in this area of the snowbelt – with his grandfather at the age of five. Someone who enjoys the people of the sport almost more than the ride, you’ll always find a smile under his helmet and more than few miles clicked off his odometer.

ENJOY 100 MILES OF TRAILS!
When snowmobiling gained popularity in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, groups of local sportsman started riding on the unplowed roads in the Powers Road area. As this new sport gained popularity, it was quickly realized that a need to smoothen out these trails was a necessity. Soon welders in garages and machine sheds were fired up and the first groomers were fabricated and pulled behind snowmobiles. Word got out of this new experience and locals who lived south of this Powers Road area started to clear out trails between farm fields so they could gain access to this area. These first groomers just didn’t do what was needed to maintain the trails. As luck would have it, the ski industry was also expanding and there was a need for the ski resorts to get better equipment. The first snowmobile club, Snow Drifters, was formed and equipment was purchased from the ski resorts. A little more fabricating and the new trail groomers were rolling down the trails. Quickly the trail was expanding south to Ironwood and to the east to Big Powderhorn Mountain ski resort. UP Trail 160 was blazed. People with camps along the lower Powers Road pushed a trail to Saxon Harbor. Also, people with hunting camps along the Camp 9 grade were using their snowmobiles to access their camps. While all this was going on, Niles Sandors acquired a contract with the Michigan DNR to groom trails North of Bessemer and North of Wakefield. He groomed from his residence, Alpine Campground, north to Indianhead Mountain, west to the Camp 9 grade and east to the Camp 4 grade out to Conorville. He also groomed a trail to Bingos and east to Tula. The far western trail Niles groomed was only a few miles from Big Powderhorn Mountain. With a little creativity riders could get from the Trail 160 all the way to Tula with several stops along the way. The trail system was forming. As years went on, the railroads were abandoning their rails and the rail beds were turned into trails. Now towns were getting connected and small clubs were merging into larger clubs and the Gogebic Range Trail Authority was formed. Over the years, some of the trails were closed and others were expanded or rerouted, but the one thing that is constant is the need for trail maintenance.

What a perfect follow-up to our epic Lodge Sessions trip last weekend at the Sportsmans Lodge Sudbury.
The Sudbury Trail Plan Association is responsible for all grooming operations on behalf of it's eight member clubs that cover 1,300 kmof trails within the City of Sudbury. The mission of the STP Grooming Operation is to Groom All Member Clubs' Trails to a Consistent Standard, Regardless of Club Boundaries.
While snowmobiling has been a popular sport in the Sudbury area for more than thirty years, the growth of organized trail systems really blossomed with the establishment of the Sudbury Trail Plan. The story of the Sudbury Trail Plan is one of hard work, enthusiastic volunteer support, and the total commitment of the entire snowmobile community.
At the outset, in 1986, Reg Horner from the Algoma Snow Plan came to Sudbury and put on a presentation for the three local clubs, the dealers, and the community leaders. He showed the Sudbury snowmobile community how successful the Sault Ste. Marie area had been through the formative processes of the Algoma Snow Plan, and from that point, the Sudbury Trail Plan was born. The three clubs and the regional development officers saw an opportunity, and they concentrated their efforts to bring it to fruition.

Mylène is the eldest of three children. When she was barely a month old, her parents took her for a train ride in the Agawa Canyon. A few months later, she went hunting with them. And that's how her childhood unfolded. If Mom and Dad wanted to do an outdoor activity, the girls would always follow, learn and discover.
Mylène quickly became passionate about all the activities she could practice OUTSIDE.
During the winter, she will take as many snowmobile rides as she can depending on her busy schedule. Since she loves to discover new spots, she often prefers to go off-trail than to follow the beaten track.
All the elements surrounding a good day of ice fishing bring her so much satisfaction: starting the fire in the wood stove, drilling the holes in the ice, breathing in the fresh air, getting the sun to warm up her face… and let’s not forget the great taste of the fish, cooked over an open fire.
And to reenergize, she finds that there’s nothing better than snowshoeing in the woods.

David & Melissa Wagner join snowmobile sessions podcast to talk about Iron Dog Snowmobile Race Team 11 and what it takes to prepare and ride in the worlds toughest race.
The Iron Dog is the World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race, it covers more than 2,500 miles as it traverses the Alaskan backcountry.
Starting on Big Lake, Pro Class racers travel over the Alaska Range to the Yukon River, then cut overland toward the Bering Sea coast. Once on the coast they travel to Koyuk then to Kotzebue via the “Red Dog Loop”. From Kotzebue racers head south reaching the halfway point in Nome. After leaving Nome, Pro Class Racers will reverse the course, minus the “Red Dog Loop” and finish back in Big Lake, Alaska.
The Expedition Class, a non-competitive class, travels from Big Lake to Nome. Participants cover some of Alaska’s most remote and rugged terrain while confronting harsh winter conditions.
The race is scheduled to begin with the Expedition Class starting on February 15, 2023, followed by a Pro Class start on February 17, 2023 and finish on February 25, 2023 (in Big Lake, AK).

In 2004, several German businessmen leased property 50 km north of Scotch Creek, British Columbia with dreams of developing a cat skiing operation. Good progress was made on building the lodge but after a year of financial difficulties, construction and business operations ceased.
The lodge sat abandoned, suffering significant vandalism and weather damage, for nearly two years.
In the Spring of 2007, 3 businessmen from the oil patch purchased the lodge as a side project with hopes of developing the business further by marketing it for snowmobilers as well.

Where to ride in SW Ontario Canada. Gphoer Dunes has top knotch track and trail facilities for all rides in Motocross, ATV, Dual Sport/Enduro.
MAIN TRACK
The main feature of Gopher Dunes is our world famous 2km sand track. The course features man-made obstacles with a 40 rider starting gate and underground irrigation system. The track is groomed 4 days per week and irrigated 3 days per week (if applicable)
TRAILS
Our trail system offers 3 separate one-directional trails that are close to 10km each in length for bikes, ATV’s, and UTV’s. The trails are well marked and groomed several times per year offering something fun to ride from beginner to Pro. Our trails also feature a single track section for bikes only and a Mud trail for ATV’s and UTV’s only.
BEGINNER TRACK
Our beginner track is designed for those who are just getting started with off-road riding. The course is 1.2 km in length and is also the same course used for our Red Rider training programs for those who have never rode before. Check out our rider training section for more information.
PEEWEE TRACK
Our peewee track at Gopher Dunes is 1.3 kilometres in length with a hybrid underground irrigation system. This track is designed for 50cc and 65cc two-strokes along with up to 125cc 4-stroke bikes. This is a great course for kids who want to get the full track riding experience.
SUPERCROSS TRACK
Our Supercross track was built in 2016 and was designed for racers with advanced skills who like to jump. The course is made up of clay and the layout was constructed by Derek Schuster and our MX1 motocross Pro, Colton Facciotti.
CORNER TRACK
Our corner track was built give give riders a sport to work on practicing their cornering skills which as most racers know, is the most crucial skill set to have. The track features a wide variety of soil including clay, wood chips, dark loam, and of sand.

About Gracie Gear 509 - This is her 4th year riding snowmobiles in the back country

She funds my riding by pipe welding in the oil field! Gracie grew up on a ranch in Washington state and moved to Wyoming almost 4 years ago. I looked at a map and this is where I ended up!

The increasing sophistication and capabilities of the latest snowmobiles and their drivers, have increased the need for enhanced driver safety and control. Most snowmobilers have family and work responsibilities to return to each Monday and when we fall off we don’t heal as easily as we used to. In 1996 Steve Brand, successfully launched Tekrider and its first product - the Tekvest. Thousands of Snow Cross, Cross Country and Hillclimb drivers across North America have come to rely on the superior protection and mobility that a Tekvest offers.
Tekvest incorporates the highest level of upper-body protection currently available to a snowmobile racer, and meets or exceed all ISR specs.
