I recorded this immediately after my final class in my second cycle of the Ecourse. The discussion on that last night was great but the camaraderie we developed over the past 6 weeks is awesome. Encouraging them re the benefits of homeschooling, and you by extension, is what I strive to do. The going will get tough at times, but the benefits far outweigh even the most challenging of days. If you have any doubts about homeschooling I hope this helps. One of the benefits of homeschooling is that the children tend to love to learn and be self motivated. Most educational institutions teach predominantly to just two of the learning styles when there are many more. Because of how the system is configured, this practice lends itself to children being unfairly labeled and made to feel dumb or inept simply because their style may differ and they don't fit into a mold. Discovering your child's learning style is of tantamount importance, whether you are a homeschooling mom like me, or not. All children can learn, you just have to teach them the way they do. Well the July/ August aka Summer vacation is upon us. Yay!!! Many parents I am sure are grateful, having made it through another year of homeschooling but I am also pretty sure that those who were schooling at home this past year are ecstatic😂. In this episode, I share some of our plans for the vacation with you. The majority of them being very low cost options that you can replicate from the safety of your home. With restrictions still in place in many countries we've had to be extra imaginative to ensure that the days are still exciting, enriching and relaxing all at the same time. We'll be taking a break from the podcast. Feel free to catch up on previous episodes and follow us on the social media platforms mentioned this week. See links below. Thanks so much for listening. What is a biblical world view? That question is answered by our guests in today's episode. Many times homeschoolers are accused of raising their children in a bubble. Christian homeschoolers have even been accused of actually brainwashing their children with all that "religious hogwash." When you hear what many of us are about you will see that the sound values and morals that most people try to live by are in fact biblical. These values are rooted in scripture and help to mold our children to become upstanding, moral contributing members within the society we live. It makes for a better, more peaceful world when you think about it. So if anything many more people should be thanking us😊. What view are you raising or homeschooling your children with? With SEA (Secondary Entrance Assessment) just around the corner, many are putting an insane amount of pressure on their children to do well. They fear that if they don't pass for their first choice, usually a prestigious college or convent, their chances for success will be ruined. In today's episode, we hear how my guest was "home educated" by her parents even while in the conventional system putting to bed the idea that it's impossible to do so. Hear how she was able to do academically well while maintaining balance and having the freedom with her parents' support, to pursue her passion for her chosen sport. That passion has afforded her some amazing opportunities despite the fact that she didn't attend one of the sought-after "prestige" schools. This is a lesson for us all as it further cements the Bible verse that speaks about the fact that your giftings and talents will make room for you.
This is only part 1 of the interview, join us next week as we chat some more with our esteemed guest.

The word "unschooling" is off-putting for most. The thing is we tend to fear the things we don't know about.
We are associate educators, we are to learn right alongside our children.

Taking care of ourselves as women is of paramount importance.
Many of us wear many different hats and juggle many different roles on a daily basis. That is why I asked my doctor, Dr. Sandra Boxill, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, to join us on today's podcast.
We had so much fun recording this podcast episode and I guess you will be able to tell. She is chock-full of information but so light-hearted and sweet, you would definitely appreciate this episode. Feel free to share it with your family and friends and get in contact with her.

I am not surprised that Isaiah and other young homeschooled entrepreneurs do so well.
Without the pressure of conventional school commitments, these "kidpreneurs" have ample opportunity to perfect their craft and hone in on their skills.
In this week's episode, I chat with Donnamarie a new homeschooling mom, who like many, was very apprehensive about taking the plunge. After several conversations with me and completing her research, she took the leap of faith and is enjoying this new chapter in life. Listen as we discuss how her son's passion for the kitchen evolved into their new family business.

We've all heard that communication is key, yet during the lockdown, the evidence showed that it was a huge issue within many households.
Sadly, a lot of the conflicts and miscommunication resulted in separations and the breakdown of the home.
In this week's episode, certified Life Coach Marcia Smith-Howard joins us once again as we discuss this important topic of Communication.

At the beginning of a new year, it's customary that many make resolutions.
In this episode, we piggyback on that desire that many have to get healthy and eat right.
Our health is our wealth so it's critical that we function at our optimum, especially with all that is required of us as Homeschoolers and parents.

They say confession is good for the soul.
Join me in this season's introduction as I divulge how my methods of educating continue to evolve as well as share what else is in store for you this season. We will focus on different methods of home educating as well as pay attention to our health. physical, emotional, and mental. People can be rather intrusive.
If you have one child they ask when are you going to fix that.
If you have multiple they want to know when you plan to stop.
In today's episode, I share one of my blog posts entitled, "Little Did They Know." I hope it encourages you today.

An episode on field trips was suggested by our eldest because according to him, it was an integral part of his homeschooling journey.
In this episode, I talk about what our most imminent "field trips" are, even though we won't be venturing outside of the home to do it due to Covid restrictions. We have been enjoying virtual tours, not the same, I know. One of our boasts as Homeschoolers is that we have the freedom to do field trips as often as we wish.
I shared two "camp out" ideas that we have planned and hope to hear from you about what you are up to and more importantly what topics you would like me to discuss in future episodes.

Many parents have either recently embarked on the homeschooling journey or have been even more engaged with their children's education thanks to virtual learning.
This has taken a toll on many parents especially the ones new to homeschooling and virtual learning.
In this week's episode, I chat with my good friend and fellow homeschooling veteran about the dangers of sacrificing your marriage on the altar of homeschooling. While we may rightfully want the very best for our children in education and life in general, one of the best things we can give them is the security that comes from a solid relationship between their parents.

When making the decision first of all it needs to be just that YOUR decision.
Because, while I may sing its praises and share from my experience and occasionally from that of others at the end of the day, it is you and your family that needs to decide what's best for the parties involved.
Additionally, many are daunted by the idea of homeschooling mainly because they fall short in the area of patience or after being blindsided by the pandemic or crisis schooling feel more intimidated than ever before. Listen to this week's episode to learn more about the difference between the two and why we need to view the education of our children through a different lens.

Is your child gifted? If you've been listening to this podcast for any time, you would know that I believe that EVERY child is gifted in some way, shape, or form.
However, today we will be discussing predominantly the accelerated Learner. We discuss their nuances, quirks, and signs of giftedness. Sometimes, that questioning child is not necessarily trying to be insolent or usurp your authority because of how their brains are wired, they think differently.
This applies to the accelerated learner as well as the enriched learner. Websites mentioned: https://www.sengifted.org https://www.movingbeyondthepage.com/ Listen in to learn more.

Many parents are facing new challenges of late, but knowing what you're dealing with is a step in the right direction.
Is your child dyslexic?
Do they struggle with reading?
Did they have difficulty in school and now that they are home, lack focus, seem demotivated, or are even acting out?
Learning challenges can present in many ways. The good thing is that they are just that, a challenge. It is not a death sentence and, once assessed and given the right tools, you will find that it can be much easier to manage going forward.

As a homeschooling family, you will discover that there are many curriculum choices available.
Some are biblically based, others are not.
Some are costly, others are free.
Some have a worktext approach, others are literature-based.
Choosing the right one based on your lifestyle, budget, and family's needs is tantamount. It is not a one size fits all approach as children have different learning styles, even those within the same household. See links below for the curriculum mentioned in this week's episode: https://wisdomhomeschooling.com/

Many often wonder, some have asked, what my homeschool day looks like. While I don't want you to compare your days to mine, because outside of you absolutely abdicating the responsibility of educating your child, everyone should home educate their children based on their child's individual needs and that of your family(remember comparison can really rob you of your joy).
However, in today's episode, I do share some of the things that I have done and some of the things we have been doing more of recently on our journey. Some of the suggestions made may work for you, others may not.
Take what you will and ignore the rest.

There are many who parents feel guilty whenever they take time away for themselves, I know this because I'm the president of that club lol. But whether you're a homeschooling parent or not, married or single, we all need to make time for ourselves. Have you ever heard of that guilty pleasure called, "Mommy Time"?
Well according to my guest Mrs. Bernadette Francis, not only is it NOT a guilty pleasure but a NECESSARY INVESTMENT that benefits not only us but our families as well. Discover unique and interesting ways that you can carve this time out for yourself without breaking the bank, even in the midst of this lockdown.

Ever since beginning the podcast in January this year I have received questions regarding time management, balancing homeschooling and working, homeschooling with a newborn baby or younger children in tow, and many others.
Today I answer those questions that I wasn't able to address this season via a specific episode. There are many more topics that I would love to discuss.

Fathers are an integral part of the family and society at large. Many have a lot to say but are rarely given opportunities. They tend to be the ones who would go out to earn a living affording many wives and mothers the opportunity to be the primary caregivers and homemakers.
Because of this many erroneously believe that their limited interaction with the children negates their authority on treating matters pertaining to the home. In a homeschooling family, fathers are actually the backbone, after God. While I am the one who actively homeschools our children, without the listening ear and shoulders of my hubby to lean on, I'm not sure how successful we would have been.
So if you have ever wondered about the father's role in a homeschooling family, today I interview my "not so chatty" husband about that and more.
This is NOT his cup of tea folks so I am really grateful for his compliance with my request. He's a really wise guy but really dislikes being in the limelight.

In case you wanted to hear more from my homeschooling family, I sat down with our two eldest girls to hear their perspectives on homeschooling. We had a lot of fun, some we had to edit out just because of time. This is their honest take on homeschooling. No coaching necessary :-)

With the threat of this global pandemic sweeping the airwaves and monopolizing our news feed, I decided to chat with our children's Pediatrician, Dr. Vanessa Stewart. We spoke a bit about the virus, but mainly about taking care of our children's general health.
What are the signs that we should look for in a child who is sick? Some symptoms require love and attention while others warrant a trip to the emergency room, in the absence of blood, how can we tell?
What are the basic items that every at-home first aid kit should have?
Commercial medicine or natural medicines to treat health issues, which is 'better"?
These and other health-related issues are discussed in today's episode.

Do you want to see your child maximize his potential? Of course, you do.
One of the ways that this can be done is by providing the right stimulation to them. To get great output there must be great input.
This doesn't only apply to academics but to the holistic development of the child. Let's not relegate their education and upbringing to screens and apps no matter how educational they seem.
Nothing can substitute for your spending quality time with them.
Listen as I chat with the founder of the International Children's Academy for NeurodeveIopment on the brain's plasticity and how it can be rewired to help your child's all-around development.

The five main types of learning challenges are Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, and Attention Deficit. Even though these may exist, it is imperative that we do NOT label our children, because labels stick. Join us as we discuss these challenges and learn how she was able to overcome them.

Did you even know that there was a difference between 'Homeschooling and Schooling at Home?"
Well, there is. One encourages a more natural approach to education and fosters a love of learning, while the other teaches based solely on the syllabus and may tend to stifle creativity and sap the joy out of learning. It took me almost three years of doing the latter before I got the memo.
This was NOT what we were called to do.
Join me as I share part two of my homeschooling journey in this episode of Homeschooling Matters.
