In this week’s edition of INSIGHT I don’t want to be the bear of bad news, but I’ve managed to shoehorn an unbearable Goldlocks theme into the intro. Three angles compete to be Goldilocks' husband. The first is obtuse and unattractive; Goldilocks says no. The second is a-cute one but is unintelligent; again, Goldilocks says no. But the third, ah yes, the third, is just right.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT we are taking a step back from our regular format today to acknowledge the tragic passing of Tim Wedlock. In times like this, business as usual takes a backseat. The outpouring of love and respect across the industry over these past few days is a poignant reminder of what matters most—our shared humanity and relationships. Tim’s impact on this industry was profound, and he will be deeply missed.
So last week was our 250th edition of INSIGHT and yet I was so focused on my farm jokes, I forgot to acknowledge the milestone. I just ploughed on regardless. When we first started back in 2020 they laughed when I told them I wanted to be the humorous podcast host. Well they’re not laughing now. And as we’re talking codes again this week, I thought I’d ask Claude how many jokes they counted in all those 250 episodes. Just the one they answered dryly.
This week’s 250th edition of INSIGHT gives me the chance to tell a cautionary tale of the MacDonald farm family dynasty. Due to bankruptcy, Old McDonald has to sell his farm to cover what he e-i-e-i owed. At first the family employed the eldest son at Old McDonald's Farm to be the new CI-EIO, but he couldn’t turn the farm’s fortunes around. Finally, they let the tech-savvy youngest son take over, and he replaced the entire farmhand staff with A-I... A-I... Oh, you get the picture.
Welcome to this Insurance News special edition of the INsight podcast. This is the story of the inaugural UAC Leadership Academy Class of 26. In this podcast you’ll hear from industry experts, supports and some of the incredible participants of the program that we had the pleasure of interviewing.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we face the tricky assignment of starting this usually vacuous intro on the theme of Shariah: the fundamental religious law and moral code of Islam, derived from the Quran. The tricky part is I misread the headline and thought it was actually about the basketballer Shaq.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, it’s all a bit one zero, one, zero, zero, one, zero, one, one, zero, zero one, one, zero, one, one, zero, one, zero. The industry has cracked three codes all at once. Four if you include Da Vinci. Can you tell I used to work as a programmer for autocorrect until they fried me for no raisin?
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re going real slow. So slow it would take us three hours to watch 60 minutes. Actually, my Doctor just diagnosed me with a slow puncture. I wasn’t upset, just a little let down.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’ve been watching old reruns of The Block with our archaeologist friend. She says that all the houses in Pompeii had the same design flaw. The flaw is lava.
In this week’s Get Smart edition of INSIGHT, we know what our spy name would be. It's our last name, followed by a brief pause, then our first name and last name. Editor-in-chief Deex, John Deex is deep under cover at the AFR Insurance event in Sydney. Last report he was looking around for a gents. Sorry, agents.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I need to start with an apology. No, it’s not that my jokes were so bad, but one listener did suggest that last week’s intro about the growing issue of mental health shouldn’t be trivialised with my questionable joke telling. I’m happy to say sorry if I offended anyone. But, it’s shopping carts we really should feel sorry for. They’re always getting pushed around.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, like the ICA we’re going a little bit crazy worrying about mental health. My doctor asked us if anyone in the podcast suffered from mental illness. But I didn’t understand, we all seem to enjoy it. In fact, I met my wife at a metal institution: we’re crazy about each other.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, it’s time for more politics. As impressionable young teenagers, members of the pod were often seen wearing Rage Against The Machine t-shirts, flipping the bird in the direction of Canberra and telling our parents we will NOT do what you tell me.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we deep dive into the federal budget, which is slightly ironic given this is episode two for one. Yes, federal financial policy is such a joke even their budget is cracking up. I was concerned they would shut down my local community art class. Sure they can make cuts, but my art class is where I draw the line.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’ve just come back from a night of karaoke. Well, actually our intern Sam got us kicked out early for singing Fly Me To The Danger Zone five times. Apparently, he exceeded the maximum number of Loggins attempts. Everyone told Sam not to sing. But Samsung anyway.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I wasn’t sure whether to make this introduction about weather. Meteorology is probably the only science field where they’re actually trained in small talk. The sky was overcast this morning so I asked Siri, “Surely, it’s not going to rain today?” And she replied, “Yes it is, and don’t call me Shirley.” That was when I realized I’d left my phone on Airplane mode.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we celebrate some of the more interesting news in quite a while. Scientists have discovered a new type of polar bear. It can live in both the North and South poles, is prone to extreme mood swings and mates with both genders. It's a bi-polar bipolar bi, polar bear.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, after some strong listener feedback on these introductions, we’ve decided to give out Bega vouchers to anyone who complains in the comments. Thay way they can have their whine and cheese. This joke’s a bit cheesy, but I’ll milk it for all it is worth.
In this week’s holy edition of INSIGHT, we’re looking forward to Easter. I originally thought it was going to be on April first, so I was going to send my kids to look for Easter eggs that I haven’t hidden. To be honest, that’s not my joke, someone lent it to me.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, give me an S, give me a T, give me an R, give me an A, give me a R, or was it a T or an A? Spelling was never my strong suit (I once accidentally messaged my wife "I'm having a great time. I wish you were her”).
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I did some research. It might surprise you to know I haven’t done a flood or water-related pun for 37 episodes. What won’t surprise you is that when I did, it wasn’t funny but then nor are the two significant events that have been declared this week. Bring it up now might be too soon after the flooding, but I don’t give a dam.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT is sponsored by the car cowboys like to drive, the Audi Partner. I get the chance to reference one of my favourite movies, The Good The Bad and The Ugly. My parents were disappointed with how ugly I turned out to be, so one day when I was young I ate an abacus. I showed them it’s what on the inside that counts.
In this special feature INsight podcast we cover the highlights, insights, forsesights and terrabites from Insurtech Live 26, brought to you by Insurtech Australia, the not-for-profit industry association for insurtech and insurance innovation.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT I’m not going to sing the lyrics to war what is it good for? As it might be a little dark, so I thought I’d start off with a fun fact. Did you know Sweden and Denmark hold the record for most wars fought between two countries? The good news is that none have happened since Denmark got LEGO and Sweden got IKEA. I guess it just takes them forever to assemble the army.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, in honour of Robert Kelly’s retirement announcement, I'm announcing that I’m retiring from telling dad jokes. Now I only tell Grand Dad jokes. It’s one monumental reporting time. But with even more reports published than usual my wife told me that I had to choose between our relationship and my career as a reporter. Have I got some news for her.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we are soooooo in tune with the industry, this is episode number CPS 230. Or so I’m told. I thought it was CP-3 pee-ohh and had written this entire intro before editorial corrected me. They sent me amendments in a PDF which I had to read using my Adobe One Kenobe.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, the news highlights are all about big movements and large breaches. But don’t be fooled. This episode is not like two robbers stealing women’s underwear. No, we’re not looking for a pair of knickers.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we were hoping 2026 didn’t start off as bad as 2025 ended. Alas, much like when I accidentally swallowed some food colouring at Christmas, sure ChatGPT said I’d be okay, but I feel like I’ve dyed a little inside. So a new year, new stories, but also the same unresolved issues. It reminds me of that time the past, the present and the future walked into a bar. Man, it was tense, it is tense and it will be tense.
In the last edition of INSIGHT of 2025, it seems all a bit too serious at the moment for a humorous intro. Never fear, we won’t change our ways and will be back with groan-inducing summaries in 2026.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re celebrating numbers. It’s episode 226. 226 is part of Aron-son's sequence (look it up if you’re having trouble sleeping). Apparently, 226 is also a happy number, but some of the numbers in this week’s news will leave you feeling a lot less happy. Much like my jokes.
In this week’s special edition of INSIGHT AFTER DARK, we’re getting up close and personal. Yes, we want to know all about you dear listener. Do you like long walks on a beach? Do you drink coconut-and-rum-based cocktails during periods of significant precipitation? Tell us your mother’s maiden name and whether you’ve ever given money to a relative of a Nigerian Prince? Yes, tell us everything…
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’d like to take a moment to thank the English cricket team. They’re the gift that keeps on giving (well at least for two days). Bazball really blows and more than our Editor-in-chief who’s a big fan.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I’m wishing last night’s breaking news came a little earlier so I could make some jokes about emojis; eyeroll emoji; facepalm emoji with a purple shirt; thumbs-down emoji. Instead, we’re still talking about commissions. And like I said to the guy who tried to sell me a coffin, it’s the last thing I need.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re channeling our Wall Street Gordon Gekko’s. Life all comes down to a few moments, but unlike the movie, this is not one of them. We asked several financial experts what do you need to do to make a small fortune on Wall Street. They looked at us and suggested a large fortune. Our performance is so abysmal, we’ve been recommended to buy laughing stock.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, the team is worried. After all the latest breaking news stories, they’re not quite sure what my introduction will contain. I tried out 10 different introductions to see if they would be okay and no pun in ten did. In the end I told them that they should worry more about me dying. It’s the last thing I’d do.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re in the mood for some classic soft rock. Maybe it’s because I had porridge for breakfast and spent the morning hauling oats around the kitchen.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re in the Gold Coast mixing it up with insurance brokers from across the country at NIBA. I thought the opening night was fancy dress so I went as a screwdriver. I certainly turned a few heads.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re as good as new. That is to say, we’re learning on the job, we’re discriminating against the old and annoying everyone by listening to New Kids On The Block on repeat.
In this week’s radar-themed edition of INSIGHT, I’m reminded of the time I changed the voice on my satnav GPS device to Bono from U2. It was quite the mistake as all the streets have no name, and I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re focusing on legal matters in the industry. It allows me a very tenuous link to one of my favourite ever adages: Once you’ve eaten at one food court, you’ve eaten at the mall.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, Wendy and I were playing cards with a deck that was missing a suit. I didn’t have the heart to tell her. I made my excuses and went to my doctor and told her I felt like a pack of cards. She just told me to lie down and she’d deal with me in the morning.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, you might notice I'm a little tired. I couldn’t sleep last night. I was lying awake wondering if Batman didn’t want to expose his identity, was he driving the Batmobile uninsured, or was he committing insurance fraud?
This week’s edition of INSIGHT is all about Dr Mulino’s European tour. I hope he’s careful if he rents a car over there. Irented one, but the ride was really bumpy so I took it to a mechanic who filled the shock absorbers with yogurt. It was quite the culture shock.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT is brought to you by the number five million three hundred and eighteen thousand and eight. Numbers are strange. Odd even. If puns leave you numb, then these mathematical puns will leave you number.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT has all the colours of the rainbow. I caught a rainbow recently and was able to weigh it. It was pretty light. Unfortunately, it was a bad rainbow and is now in prism after a light sentencing.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re pretty fly for a white rye as the big insurers are making the dough and it’s on the rise. Some say success baguettes success, but it’s the yeast they could do after some very challenging years.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I think it’s important to remind our listeners how little we give credence to most awards. For example, I just won an award for most secretive person in the office, but I can't tell you how much that means to me. We tend to think that most awards are in fact handed out by a guy named Darwin.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’ve been reminiscing about our lives before insurance. I used to have a job crushing cans in a soft drink factory, but I quit because it was soda pressing.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT we’re getting thrifty. For example, Miranda bought a wig for a dollar. It was a small price toupee. Meanwhile I saw a TV selling for half price because it was stuck at full volume. I thought to myself, I can't turn that down.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT is a homage to bad ideas. Like making ME the host of a podcast, or eating a clock. It’s time-consuming and you always want seconds.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT, is a building special and I’m getting hammered. Not all construction work is equally enjoyable. For example, enlarging a drilled hole is boring, bust fastening pieces of metal together is riveting. What will this week’s podcast be like? I think we’ve nailed it.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT could be a little bit rubbish to be honest. You see I’ve been distracted by the Erin Patterson mushroom trial verdict. I used to hate mushrooms, but then they grew on me.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT, to celebrate the end of the financial year, we’re having a pantomime-themed podcast. Oh no you’re not. Oh yes we are! On no you’re not. Oh you get the idea.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT, it’s so cold, I’m talking about the weather. It’s Motown at the moment: yep, 3 degrees. Four, tops. You know, coming up with weather puns really is a breeze. In a surprise to no-one, I once entered a weather-based pun competition. I did okay, I beat the raining champion.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT, being on a podcast isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I went to see a psychologist after I discovered cracks in the hearth of my fireplace. I told him I was having a mantle breakdown. But fortunately, this week I can pull out my best egg-based puns.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT, is sponsored by the words Bu, Dum and Tish. Although regular listeners would say that’s always the case. Anyway, like Dorothy says, there’s no place like home. Except in my home, I have 10 ants roaming around my kitchen so I built them a small house. It’s okay though. I’m their landlord and I collect rent from my tenants.
This week is our 199th edition of INSIGHT, and I can finally get this off my chest: I never liked the band Wet Wet Wet. There I said it. From the dreadful cover of Love Is All Around from Four Weddings And a Funeral, Marti Pellow has a lot to answer for. However, I do love being entertained by most things water-related. I’m currently watching a live stream as we speak.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we used to work as bartenders for the mob.It was whiskey business. And just like the RAC, we’ve been made an offer we can’t refuse. Otherwise, we will have to say hello to IAG’s little friend.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, romance is in the air and our hearts are all a flutter. Roses are red, violets are blue, Steven Jones may be gone, but Dr. Mulino will do.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, with all the hullabaloo over the last six weeks, the entire election seems to be a bit of a disappointment. Not the results of course, my federal overlords, more like the disappointment that shampoo brand “Head and Shoulders” never released a body wash called “Knees and Toes”
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’ve always wondered if the secret service agents protecting President Trump in Pennsylvania shouted Donald duck! Anyway, we’ve got our own double agent, but I can’t go on too much about them or they’ll be bugging me.
Welcome to this Insurance News special edition of the INsight podcast. In this podcast we cover the exclusive 2025 INFORM Market Outlook Report, a collaboration between Insurance News and Finity.
In 2025, the shifting market cycle is bringing fresh challenges for the industry. This report delivers sharp insights backed by Finity data and expert analysis, and complimented by in-depth market commentary compiled by Insurance News.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re back talking about the election. Apparently both party’s first law will be to ban shredded cheese. Its nacho standard election, but they’re going to make Australia grate again. Gouda for you, with the upcoming holidays, this will be the last time we talk politics for a while.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, a headline has us reminiscing for the comedy of the British Carry On films. I’m a simple man with simple tastes and I like to be wooed. Oh, you can be as wued as you like with me. Can you believe they made 25 of them?
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, listeners should be delighted the federal election is so soon, there’s less time to get annoyed by an out-of-touch buffoon who represents a group of individuals who spouts utter nonsense to a captured audience. But enough about me.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, apparently, I reached a new low with last week’s introduction. It was the same reception I get when I visit Hawaii. I was a low ha. Fortunately, the industry’s perception after its response to Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred is quite the opposite.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, sorry seems to be the hardest word. I start this episode needing to apologize to all those listeners “outside of the industry” who I offended by assuming they didn’t listen, when in fact, there were ten of them. I also used ten puns in that episode hoping they would land. I’m sorry to say, no pun in ten did.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we all breathe a collective sigh of relief as Cyclone Alfred is downgraded, but the potential for flooding still makes it an emergent sea.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we have thirty billion questions. I’m so broke, I can’t even afford to pay attention so I’m going to need some specialist help this week.
In this special feature INsight podcast we cover the highlights, insights, forsesights and terrabites from Insurtech Live 25, brought to you by Insurtech Australia, the not-for-profit industry association for insurtech and insurance innovation.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I give a big shout out to all our actuarial friends. We’re still big in France, but it seems we’re bigger in accrual world. Once again, I Excel at nothing, but at least I’m at the top of the bell curve.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we find a real use for generative AI. Getting quotes from Sir Humphrey Appleby of Yes, Minister Peter Dutton must be a glutton for punishment as all of a sudden the industry is seen as a political weapon.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I’ve been waiting five years for any sign of a soft market just to show off my repertoire of egg-based puns. Spoiler alert: they’re cracking. Oh dear, I’ll find my way out, via the egg-sit.
Our first edition of INSIGHT for 2025 is sponsored by Leonardo DiCaprio’s home and contents insurance. It’s been one hell of a start to the year, with many people taking that reference literally amongst all the fire and brimstone.
In the last edition of INSIGHT for 2024, it’s been quite a year as we take a trip down amnesia lane. I’d make a joke about it, but I’ve forgotten how it goes. But that’s okay, it’s not that memorable anyway.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’ve got so many complaints, we’re thinking of opening a whinery. So I purchased some noise cancelling headphones. I thought the team would find them annoying but so far I haven't heard any complaints.
In this week’s petrolhead edition of INSIGHT, buckle up listener, we might not be fast, we might not be furious, but give us a brake, it’s December and I’m exhausted. But you auto know better, the rest of the team just don ‘t seem to get tyred.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I was going to celebrate our 180th episode with a bunch of dart jokes. But instead, I think I’ll just get to the point.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we talk about complaints. Not the complaints I made to Amazon when they didn’t deliver my poker cards. Sure, customer service are dealing with it, but I think they’re bluffing. No, these are AFCA complaints in 3D.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, in recognition of the release of Taylor Fry RADAR report on insurance lines, I get the chance to use some of my best one-liners in this pod introduction.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we backed a horse a couple days ago at ten to one. Unfortunately, it came in at quarter past four, so we’re still in our day jobs. We should look at it as a glass hoof full, stop horsing around and focus on this podcast that turns out has a colt following.
Oui, In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re acknowledging our loyal listeners from France: our second-largest global audience as we near 100,000 listeners. That’s over half-a-million dad jokes. Zut alors!
This week’s edition of INSIGHT is brought to you by the number 86. You’re about to get so many math puns, you’ll be calling it maths. I did my research, apparently, 86 is business code for “all out of it”. We’re not sure if that’s the hidden meaning from the flood inquiry recommendations, but we will figure it out.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, there’s an ill wind blowing in pod HQ, and it’s not just the result of me spending four straight days eating lentil dahl whilst hiking. Unsurprisingly, like a student pilot soaring through a rainbow during their exam, the team passed with flying colours.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re quoting the definition of stupidity: to do same thing over and over and expect a different result. So, we’re quoting the definition of stupidity: to do same thing over and over and expect a different result. Then we’re quoting the definition of stupidity: to do same thing over and over… you get the idea.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, it’s a bit of an ordeal and not that ideal as we cover a committee spiel and a real big deal, in an intro that’s a frankly a bit piecemeal.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, the past, the present and the future all walk into a bar. It was tense; and frankly a lot more interesting than the repetitive news this week.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, it’s time to get entomological. The team hate insect puns, yes they really bug them. That mite not be my best joke, but I made it up on the fly. Just bee-cause.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we go all Disney and decide that the funniest princess is in fact, re-PUN-zal. We also wish Snow White had been looking into the strata situation, afterall she’s the fairest of them all.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, the stormy weather has affected my ability to remember my alphabets. I remember A, B, C, D, and F but I misty.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, off we go like a herd of turtles as I bite the bullet, and cool as a cucumber, chew the fat by the skin of my teeth. I’m just an idiot of idioms as this intro starts barking up the wrong tree.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, I delve deep into the cat litter tray of past podcast introductions to dust off a couple of classic nuggets. Litter-alley.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re all a little tired from staying up late watching the Olympics and practicing our break dancing, so bear with us.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we got into a boring conversation with a vulture. Man they tend to carrion. He then dragged us to a lecture about lamps. I thought it would be boring but, it was actually very illuminating. I might be underselling it, but welcome to a yawn-laden podcast.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we’re doing this podcast while texting in our cars. Two autocorrecting iPhones walk into a bear: Ah! Bard. No, wait. BRA. Errrgh! BOAR. Oh Jesus Christina Aguilera.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, in the immortal words of Moss from the I T Crowd, you'd best put seat belts on your ears, because we’re about to take them for the ride of their lives!

In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, we ask who at podcast headquarters will admit to getting really drunk last night, and taking a bus home? Sure, that might not seem like a big deal, but I’ve never driven a bus before.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, despite having our finger on the pulse of everything that goes on in the industry, we’re in the dark about a few things.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT we’re proud to be the named the 2024 geometric-reader publication of choice, beating hypotenuse to this years award. What that has to do with today’s sponsor SGUA is anyone’s guess. It’s just COS.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT we’re delighted to welcome Coalition as a sponsor. Mostly because when I needed to get my bluetooth fixed recently, I went to a dentist.
This week’s edition of INSIGHT is brought to you by the letter P. Why do pirates always need the letter P? Because without it they would be irate.

In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, let me give you some simple advice: just because you’re trash, doesn’t mean you can’t do great things. It’s called garbage can, not garbage can not.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, it’s episode 137! Whoop, whoop! Who cares, I hear you cry? For many people (mostly my physicist father), the number 137 is a bridge between the tangible world of science and the intangible realm of mysticism. Seriously, look it up. It will be more interesting than this intro.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, it’s a political special edition and the steaks are high, so there’s no bull. We’re milking this for all it’s worth.
In this week’s edition of INSIGHT, it’s been such a big week of news, we need to take a holiday. The lights may be on, but nobody’s home.
