The guys establish the fact that the pastor would not record weekly without listeners, the parishioner would be glad to talk without even recording, and the professor is just happy to be here. Then, the 3GTers get down to the subject in hand. Does God judge the nations of the earth? And if so, why and how?
The guys first give the biblical evidence for God’s judgment on the nations, particularly found in the Psalms and the Prophets. Scott then points that Americans certainly want the positive side of God‘s judgment, as politicians regularly ask for God to bless America. The guys go on to explain how the judgments of God unfold as nations turned away from Him. They discuss the particular corporate sins of nations that break covenant with God and how godless countries deny His granting of the nations to Christ as His worthy inheritance. The gents point out ways the church should be involved in calling the nations to “kiss the Son” as Psalm 2 declares.
As the political world swirls with discussion and intrigue, believers should look with eyes of faith and see how the Lord’s hand is at work. Give this episode of Three Guys Theologizing a listen to that end!

With Scott leading the way, the guys devote this episode to the “one anothers” of Scripture. They first demonstrate how to apply the more negative ones, such as provoking one another. Then they address briefly the more common one anothers that are a bit easier to understand, such as love one another. But then they take on some of the difficult one anothers we find in the Bible.
For the epistles contain one another admonitions that are not easy to understand and apply. Such as? Confess your sins to one another. Forgive one another. Bear with one another. Admonish one another. The 3GTers discuss practical ways to create an environment in the church where these hard to apply one another’s can be accomplished. Ideas, such as leadership modeling, intense teaching that uses the command’s context, and a willingness to enter messy situations, are offered.

The blogosphere and podcast world seem to be discussing Christian Nationalism these days. Why, even 3GT got into the act not too long ago in this episode. Yet, what about focusing this issue down to a more local level? How about a discussion on Christian Municipalism? As the Three Guys of 3GT get back in the studio together, they are joined by a guest to help speak to this subject.
Martin Monteith is the new pastor of the Fulton Reformed Presbyterian Church in the small town of Fulton, NY. In the relatively short amount of time Martin has ministered there, he has become quite involved in his community. The providence of a marijuana dispensary’s opening led him into a friendship with a man who became mayor this year. In turn, through the influence of Martin and a few others, the mayor made a proclamation in August at the City Council meeting calling on the community to set aside September as a month for prayer and fasting. This proclamation, posted below, acknowledges the Triune God and the Lordship of Jesus Christ, calling the churches and people of Fulton to look to the Lord for healing and help. The story of how this occurred and the response in the community are fascinating to hear.
Often discussions about Christians and culture are done in grandiose and theoretical ways. Tune into this episode of 3GT and learn from a humble man how practically we can be salt and light where we live!

After a late summer hiatus, the gents return to their favorite extracurricular activity to record new episodes of Three Guys Theologizing. Yet alas, the parishioner is still not available. However, undeterred, the pastor and professor decide to give listeners an update on the latest in their lives and ministry.
With Kyle manning the mic, he begins to pepper Barry with questions about his life and ministry. Along the way, we hear about his work as a prof, pastor, and even executor (read that last label carefully!). Then, turning the tables, Kyle catches us up on being a new father, watching his older son play football, his failure as a Ninja Warrior, and what life is like as he enters his twelfth year of ministry.

As the summer ends, the guys welcome a guest to this episode of Three Guys Theologizing. Pastor William “Bill” Boekestein of the Immanuel Fellowship Church (URC) in Kalamazoo, Michigan, joins them to discuss his latest book Finding My Vocation: A Guide for Young People Seeking a Calling.
The interview begins by Bill defining Biblically the idea of vocation. He explains how the Protestant Reformation helped recapture the sense of all of God’s people serving the Lord, not just the clergy. Bill then discusses with the 3GTers the theology of work and rest, and how they add to the sense of vocation. From there, Bill describes ways young people growing up in the church can prepare for their vocational calling, chief of which is growing in wisdom and character. Toward the end of the episode, questions about vocation such as “What if I hate my job?”, “Should I go to college?” and “What about the military?” are addressed.

Scott’s back in the hosting seat after cruising with his beloved for their 25th, which he thoroughly enjoyed and so apologizes to Kyle for making fun of his cruise history. This leads the guys to discus the possibility of a 3GT cruise like other high profile ministries. Yet knowing the 3GT budget, they quickly get back to being content to record as usual. They then pick up on the latest internet kerfuffles regarding seminary education.
Scott asks the pastor and seminary president about the many objections raised about seminary training. They question whether seminary is necessary in this digital age, where vast theological resources are available online. The negative influence of seminaries growing liberal and distributing theological corruption is evidenced. Critics point out the high cost of seminary education (Carl Trueman’s Follow the Money and Barry’s response are referenced). Older men find it difficult to transplant their families for the years of seminary education. Other models of training are also mentioned as alternatives to the seminary.
With Scott firing away with these objections like the prosecuting attorney he is, the pastor and seminary president respond. A vigorous discussion ensues. While acknowledging that no model is perfect, Barry and Kyle give answers and add balance to the question of the importance of seminary education.

The parishioner is off on the high seas, enjoying a silver anniversary cruise with his beloved. So the professor takes the opportunity to interview the pastor about his new book on Presbyterianism, Household of Faith.
Kyle, as one of the managing editors of Grassmarket Press, a series of books introducing theological and Christian living topics published by Crown & Covenant, explains the purpose of this series as he begins. From there, he shares how the opening chapters of his book describe the nature of the church, which leads to how Christ, as head of the church, wants the church to be governed.
As Kyle explains, our high school civics courses helped us learn what being a good citizen of a country means and how to participate in our government. Similarly, Christians, as citizens of heaven, need to know the importance of seeing the church operate according to Biblical directives and their call to be involved in and honor the courts of the church.
However, you will not find Kyle’s book – or this 3GT episode! – just dry lessons on Christian duty. Instead, you will have explained with Biblical insight and pastoral heart the beauty of how Christ rules over His people in the church.

In this episode of Three Guys Theologizing, the gentlemen welcome back Pastor Nathan Eshelman as their guest. Nathan has authored another book in the Grassmarket Press series, entitled Worthy. They interview him about his book on worship.
As Nathan reminds us, the word “worship” is based on the word “worthy.” The Triune God is worthy of our praise and honor. But therein lies the rub. How is God to be praised and honored in worship? Man’s ideas and imaginations about this subject are nothing short of idolatry. As Nathan reminds us, for God to be worshipped properly we must follow his clear directives in Scripture, which his book explains plainly and practically as being centered on Christ. As our worship here on earth is preparing us to spend an eternity with God, what importance it has!

The boys start off talking about the pleasantry of mowing their lawns, which has nothing to do with this episode but is a continuation from the last one! Kyle gets the guys on track by sharing an anecdote that takes them to the subject at hand – church conflict.
As Samuel Rutherford once said, there will always be disagreements in the church. To aid in thinking through how to handle them, the 3GTers utilize three stories of church struggles found in Acts 15-16. From the Biblical witness, they discuss the different types of disagreements that can arise in the church, wrongful approaches to dealing with them, and proper ways of addressing them.
Sadly, believers will always have to deal with issues of conflict in their congregations and denominations. But being prepared for them is important in working through disagreements. So tune in to this episode of 3GT for a little help!

As the three guys return to the studio, the prof has just mowed his lawn. He explains to the pastor and parishioner some trouble he had with his new riding lawn mower, which involved the tortoise and the hare on the throttle. From there, they move to the topic at hand – encountering the Christian slog.
The 3GTers define the slog as the dark and discouraging times Christians sometimes face. They describe its symptoms and the problems it brings to the Christian life. After referencing the Slough of Despond from Pilgrim’s Progress, they end up in a slough of their own making by discussing how to pronounce slough before getting back on track. They offer their listeners means that the Lord has provided to help leave the slog (no discrepancy in its pronunciation) and offer words of encouragement and promise as they conclude.

The boys are back! Yes, indeed, all three guys show up for this episode. After some banter that involves Scott and Kyle referencing old movies once again and making fun of Barry’s birdwatching, they get down to the business at hand. For they return again to the subject of ordination.
Treated in an episode long, long ago (see Episode 32), the 3GTers again explain what the practice of ordination is and then expand upon it. They explain the relationship of ordination to authority, as well as the correspondence between the congregation and courts of the church wit respect to this subject. The biblical pattern of being sent and how ordination represents that sending, rather than assuming it by one’s own volition, is discussed. The guys then focus on the office of elder and the distinction between those with a ruling eldership and a teaching eldership. They look at what body ordains ruling elders versus teaching elders, and delineate the difference and functionality between the two positions while maintaining the quality of authority in them.
As they conclude, they cannot help themselves as Kyle relates Scott’s work as a ruling elder back to a movie. Surprisingly, even Barry gets into the action. Join us for another action-packed episode of Three Guys Theologizing (3GT)!

With this episode recorded near the time of the solar eclipse, the parishioner and the professor share their experiences while the pastor gallivants around Kansas for his kids’ track meets. Though clearly the eclipse did not result in the end of the world, as some predicted, surely it testified to the Lord’s glory in natural revelation. With that in mind, two of the 3GTers turn to the special revelation of that special book at the end of the Bible entitled Revelation.
With Barry having completed a second preaching series through Revelation recently, and helping homiletics students at RPTS as they preach from this book, he shares interpretive tips for the last book of the Bible. As he does so, he quizzes Scott along the way! As they discuss how to understand Revelation, they touch on matters such as the way this book reveals more (not less!) of Christ, the prophetic language the book uses, the covenantal closing to the Bible Revelation provides, the different schools of interpretation, and much, much more.

In November 1923, the Synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America purchased the Horne Mansion located on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh in order to house its denominational seminary. For the sum of $40,000, the Synod invested in this beautiful, well-built home to create a more permanent place for men to be trained in pastoral ministry. After preparing the mansion for the seminary, the next year (1924) classes began at Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary. For the past century, RPTS has continued to dwell in this spacious home.
On this episode, Barry shares this history and how housing the seminary in this building enhances the commitment of RPTS to create a theological family. Under the roof of what today is known as Rutherford Hall, RPTS offers its students the academic excellence, devotional piety, and practical training they need to serve the kingdom of God. Along the way, he explains some of the celebration events RPTS are doing to commemorate this history. In addition, he asks listeners to consider helping as it takes much more than the original sale price to keep the building in proper condition, as a $500,000 capital campaign is underway at this time to preserve, renew, and beautify Rutherford Hall.

Of all the episodes that the prosecuting attorney would miss, it should not have been this one! Yet so it was, as the parishioner was on spring break when the pastor and professor were finally able to record again. For the topic they chose to discuss was that of God and His justice.
In the first part of this episode, Kyle and Barry look Biblically at the concept of justice. Too often, people portray justice as counter-opposed to mercy and, further still, even the lack of mercy. Yet as they theologize, the two of the 3GTers help hearers understand that the God of mercy cannot be truly known and loved unless He is also seen as the God of justice. For the cross of Jesus Christ reveals the wondrous truth of how “righteousness and peace kiss each other” (Ps. 85:10).
From there, they apply this doctrine very practically. For Barry has just returned from an Indiana courtroom, where the man who shot his son-in-law and altered greatly his family’s life was sentenced. As he recounts the incredible events of that day, we are once again reminded that the answer to the question “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” (Gen. 18:25) is a resounding “Yes and Amen!”
The pastor and professor hope that not only will the parishioner/prosecuting attorney tunes into this episode. They hope many faithful listeners of 3GT will also listen and declare with the psalmist about Christ, “He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord” (Ps. 33:5).

On this episode, the guys take up a topic submitted by a listener. However, before they do, the listener asks Kyle a question regarding BeReal. He acts as if this French app is better than Snapchat, Instagram, or Facebook, but his explanation will leave you dubious.
They then get down to the true question at hand. Can a sincere Christian who loves football watch it on the Lord’s Day? If not, how is that not legalism? Having waited until the NFL season and the Super Bowl are over, the 3GTers answer this question outside the heat of the moment. Kyle gives a history of how the NFL purposefully chose Sunday for its “special day” to air football games. From there, the guys speak of how the Lord’s Day is to be consecrated unto the Lord and how exchanging the pleasure of football for heavenly blessings is a far better path. They offer many practical ways the day can be holy between and after its worship services, while sharing personal anecdotes of God’s blessings they have experienced as they dedicated the day to Him.

After conferring upon Barry another title and hearing what a good time he and Scott had together over the weekend, Kyle brings up another topic that shows the 3GTers are about all things Presbyterian. For they discuss the process of a man becoming a pastor through the presbytery.
They explain what it means for a man to be taken under care by his presbytery. From there, the holy partnership of how a seminary theologically and practically develops a man and how the presbytery examines him is highlighted. Scott is then given a pop quiz on what are the first five exams in being licensed to preach and scores a 4/5 after the answer “cooking exam” is marked wrong. The different exams and their purpose, how the seminary and presbytery seek to work in tandem in taking a student through the process, and what it means to be licensed to preach are all discussed. Again, Scott is quizzed on the five exams in the next level of eligibility to receive a call and again scores a 4/5 when “basket weaving” is tossed out. Conversation occurs about experiencing the difficulty of students failing exams and presbyters making things difficult. After highlighting the process for ordination and installation, the episode ends by stressing how important guarding the ministry of the gospel is as presbyteries exercise due diligence in this regard.

For a funny reason, the guys get introduced as characters from Back to the Future such as Biff and Marty McFly, which is about the only theme that ties this episode together. For the guys take a break from their normal singular focus and discuss a variety of seemingly unrelated topics on this installation of 3GT.
They first return to discuss Episode 301 where Rosaria Butterfield was interviewed about her new book Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age. As Kyle and Scott decided to make a Mr. Bean quote the basis for winning a free copy, Barry reads the quotes and the other guys choose their two favorites. (Those listeners who submitted the winning quotes did have books sent to them!) From there, they discuss the fact that Kyle’s wife will be having a baby soon, and he reveals the gender and even the name of their little one! Next on the list is a short section on the brouhaha regarding Alistair Begg, and a reference to another movie (Bobby Jones) makes it into the conversation. They then venture into the political realm a bit as they discuss the Texas border crisis and the standoff between the state and federal governments.
As stated, quite a range of topics on this episode! And, if that’s not enough, as Scott tries to tie it all together with a Biff quote he has been building up to the whole time, he truly biffs it at the end!

After establishing Kyle‘s proper location and noting that Scott is wearing a pink sweater, the guys get down to the task at hand. What does it mean for elders to shepherd the flock of God?
As Elder Hunt is about to head into a session meeting, the 3GTers start there. What is the session and what goes on in those meetings? They define how the session is a court of the church under the lordship of Jesus Christ. They talk about the importance of overseeing the church in a way that represents the interests of Christ and caring for the people of God through wise decision-making and prayer. They explain how the elders are responsible for admitting members to the church and removing members when needed from the church. They interact about the voluntary nature of associating with the church and avoiding coercion in shepherding people. The guys then discuss how a great deal of shepherding is done informally, as elders come alongside the people to get to know them and show care for them in their daily lives. The guys then spend time speaking about how to create an environment where people can be helped in a church through difficult matters such as sin, conflict, and crisis.

In this episode, Kyle, Barry, and the other guy bring a special guest to help them with a controversial topic. Pastor Colin Samul joins the pastor, o the professor, and the other guy discuss his review of the book The Case for Christian Nationalism by Stephen Wolfe.
They begin the episode by having Colin define nationalism, particularly Christian nationalism. This concept is differentiated from patriotism and fascism, as well as contrasted with the rabid, secular individualism of our modern day. Though Wolfe’s book has received scathing reviews by people like Kevin DeYoung, Colin shares with Kyle, Barry, and the other guy a more balanced take on the book. He notes three positives in Wolfe’s work: 1) it promotes a national confession position without straying into transformationalism; 2) the book is based upon reformed, scholastic works; and 3) it supports governments upholding the moral law of God while resisting theonomy. Colin then shows how these positions have touch points with the doctrines of the RPCNA regarding the civil realm.
However, Colin tells the two cohosts and the other guy some of his concerns about the book. He points out an inconsistent anthropology with Reformed theology that roots mankind’s ability to form nations despite its fallenness. Though not accusing Wolfe of promoting prejudicial forms of government, his views on ethnicity as it is tied to his understanding of nationalism are troublesome. Wolfe’s position on the need of a Christian prince, almost calling for messianic figures to arise in nations to lead them in a Christian profession, differs significantly from Westminster’s view of the civil magistrate.

As the boys open up another episode of 3GT, they go about their common bantering to begin. But then they settle in to discussing the topic at hand, which is “What is the difference between elements and circumstances of worship? And why is it important?”
They begin by defining what are the necessary elements, or parts, of a worship service. They reference the Westminster Confession of Faith as well as the RPCNA Directory of Worship. They urge listeners to make sure they are familiar with their own church’s standards for worship. From there, they then distinguish what circumstances of worship are. As they do, they then help listeners think through how circumstances relate to the elements and then apply the discussion to particular elements of worship such as preaching, praying, and the Lord’s Supper. As they do, they also warn against the tendency to elevate circumstances to the place of elements, as it causes divisions and casts stumbling blocks before others.

Though down a professor, the parishioner and pastor bring on another one far more renowned. For Dr. Rosaria Butterfield, author of Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age, comes onto 3GT to discuss her new book. Well, at least she does once someone else’s book gets out of the way!
After introducing herself and reminding listeners of her testimony (you can hear her story here or read it here), Rosaria explains three reasons for writing her new book, which has to do with her involvement in the broad evangelical world and her concerns regarding it. First, the evangelical church, which eschews the Old Testament to its detriment, fails to see that the seeds of the gospel are in the garden with Adam as they deny his historical reality and consequently lose the power to speak to issues directly tied to him. Second, the church does not realize what time it is historically speaking, as the flood of pro-homosexual and pro-transgender legislation and movements are overrunning our world while the church continues to play nice. Third, the church is ill-equipped to fight the spiritual battles waging now as it fails to confront the world’s lies with hard truth spoken in true love.
Rosaria then explains what the five lies are that the church is failing to address properly. Those lies are: Homosexuality is normal. Paganism is kind. Feminism is good. Transgenderism is normal. Modesty is outdated. She then explains how she – and the modern evangelical church – must choose a life of repentance and boldness that has the gospel protection of the following generations in view. As parents allow their children to be subject to educational systems normalizing evil sins or to even be mutilated to change sex, it’s time for the church to find her prophetic voice even if the world hates us. Like Deborah of old, Rosaria is calling the church to battle to that end.
This episode may make you angry. That’s fine, as long as it leads to repentance over the church’s sin of fake niceness in the face of profound evil. So listen, get stirred up, and ask the Lord’s Spirit to strengthen His church. You can also listen to see how you might win a free copy of her book.

After a lengthy, way-too-long introduction that involves the likes of Michael Bolton, Scott finally reigns it in and gets to the subject at hand. A listener wants to know how to treat the subject of masculinity in today’s culture.
The guys begin by addressing the strong-handed approach to the subject from men as diverse as Andrew Tate, Jordan Peterson, Donald Trump, and Douglas Wilson. They discuss how toxic masculinity is a response swung too far against such ideologies as progressive feminism and transgenderism. They then develop a Biblical anthropology regarding male identity. The 3GTers conclude with the importance of properly training boys and young men in the church to be leaders with the spirit of Christ.
Along the way, someone says it’s time for loins to be girded up. Hence, the title of this episode. Don’t let it scare you away as you listen to this episode of 3GT!

It’s not often that the 3GTers have repeat guests on the show. But some people have such a story one episode hardly does it justice. Such is the case regarding the story of Naghmeh Panahi.
A few years ago, Naghmeh was on 3GT to share her incredible story that can be heard here. She recounted her testimony, her advocacy work to see her husband Saeed Abedini released from an Iranain prison, and the subsequent realization that she was in an abusive marriage. Now, with the recent publication of her new book I Didn’t Survive: Emerging Whole after Deception, Persecution, and Hidden Abuse, the guys catch back up with her.
In this episode, they focus on Naghmeh’s life the past few years, why she wrote the book, and how her husband’s captivity was providentially used by the Lord to set her free. In addition, you will hear the ways the Lord is now using her to witness for the gospel, help people in the persecuted church, and encourage those suffering abuse within the church.

Many listeners know that on February 27, 2022, Barry’s son-in-law, Tommy Mangan, was shot through the throat in the line of duty as a police officer in Indianapolis. On this episode of 3GT, Tommy and his wife Emory join the guys to give an update on their journey.
Together, they share the ongoing physical struggles Tommy faces following the damage from the bullet that changed their lives, and further possible treatments and procedures to help. They then relate some of the rawness of heart and soul they have had as they deal with this injustice. From there, they speak of how the Lord has sustained them through His promises, His presence, and His people.

Pennsylvania civil magistrates may not be the best place to look for clothing decisions, with some men dressing as women and others, well, hardly dressing at all. But Kyle, knowing these are Barry’s legislators, wants to go there. After discussing the latest kerfuffle on Capital Hill caused by a Pennsylvania senator, the guys discuss dressing for church.
They start by talking about the traditional view of wearing your best to church as you come before the Lord, which is upheld by the Boomer in the mix. From there, the Millennial guy starts pushing the envelope, claiming the culture the congregation is in has to be considered. The Gen Xer, true to his generation, just argues with the other two. But along the way, Biblical principles begin to emerge that we hope may be helpful.

The boys banter about the change in weather, going to kid’s fall sporting events, and Scott wearing a cardigan. Then they get down to the subject at hand. They discuss what is known as pneumatology, or the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
They begin pointing out how misunderstandings of the Trinity create false teaching and confusion in the church. So they begin with a basic Biblical and catechetical understanding of the Trinity. Then they focus on the third person of the Godhead. The Spirit’s personhood is further established. His foundational work in believers’ lives is explained as the church is the very temple of God where the Spirit dwells. Using the means of grace, such as God’s Word and prayer, are stressed as ways to cultivate the Spirit’s presence in our lives. Important theological works on the Holy Spirit are referenced. Further applications to practicing union with Christ through the Spirit’s assistance are given.
Greater reliance on God through the Spirit’s ministry is needed by all believers, especially in an age when many are searching for the wisdom and power they need in other places. Listen to this episode for a little encouragement to that end!

As the parishioner had recently read a list of ten criticisms a famous preacher had received, he wondered if his less-than-famous preacher friends had received any of them. With all the guys in the studio again, they are putting the 3 back into 3GT! With the increasing hostility in the culture against Christ and the church, they discuss the subject of enemies and how to deal with them on this episode.
The guys first look at some basic texts on treating rightly our own personal enemies. Christians need to guard against personal retaliation when wronged and actually meet hurtful acts with love, as taught in such texts as Matthew 5:43-48 and Romans 12:14-21. Yet what does that actually look like? For they make some qualifications, such as not compromising the gospel or, with respect to the LGBTQ movement, biological truth even when it may appear unloving to others. Loving our enemies does not mean accepting their choices and promotion of evil. So the guys speak about how believers can engage in cultural battles in a way that they sprinkle salt, shine with light, but demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit.

Well, the boys are back together again! As Presbyterians, the guys believe that this form of church government helps in the work of caring for the flock of God. They talk about the importance of of the church being able to select their own pastors and elders as shepherds in the Presbyterian system. Then they discuss how feeding the flock God’s Word is such an important part of the work, and how the accountability for teaching in the Presbyterian church is to be maintained. They then get into other Presbyterian distinctives, such as the plurality, parity, and connectivity of elders and how this affects the shepherding ministry. Throughout the episode, they also acknowledge that no system is perfect or better than the character of the men in leadership.

With Kyle away on an United Nations–like trip, it’s up to Barry and Scott to hold down the home fort. So after hearing about Scott’s journey in becoming a lawyer and why he enjoys practicing law, the guys turn to a discussion of Christian misunderstandings of the Law of God.

On this episode of 3GT,the parishioner and the prof conduct a book review. They are joined by none other then Kyle Borg, author of a new book entitled What is Love? That’s right – they are interviewing 3GT‘s own resident loveologist!
They begin by having Kyle explain, as president of the Education and Publication Board of the RPCNA, where the idea for Grassmarket Press (the imprint for the series of books What is Love? is a part of) came from. From there, they question greatly why he of all people was chosen to address this subject. After defending himself, Kyle then goes on to explain the theological basis for treating the subject of God’s love and the application of this doctrine tothe Christian life. Incredibly, Scott seems to be greatly impacted by this book as he passes down numerous opportunities to get back at Kyle and praises his writing instead!

All three guys are together again so this episode starts off a bit rambunctious. The parishioner (or is it placeholder?) is teased for wearing a cardigan while exercising. The pastor is dubbed the “loveologist.” But then they settle down and get to business. For they address the subject of passing the Christian faith down to the coming generations.
The 3GTers begin by addressing the promise of Pentecost found in Acts 2:39, “For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” They then look at the Old Testament background of the promises God gives to the spiritual descendants of Abraham, whose child each Christian becomes through faith in Jesus Christ (Gal. 3:7-9, 29). The guys look at how the Old Testament foresaw the age of the Gentiles and how these promises that the descendants of believers would be blessed in the New Covenant age. Having established the promises, they go on to discuss how to exercise the means the Lord has given to claim these promises. All along the way, they continue to emphasize that these promises are only effectual by the sovereign grace and power of the Lord.
Believers have an incredible privilege and duty to hand the faith down to the coming generations. So join us on this episode of Three Guys Theologizing and, in the words of John Owen, become “acquainted with the promises” the Lord has given to His church!

Though the prof was kept away from recording by a snowstorm, this episode brings rejoicing for the wandering parishioner has returned! Yes, Kyle is joined by Scott in this episode. Together at last, they bring in a “ghost guest” in the form of Carl Trueman as they take a quote of his about the Roman Catholic Church and pontificate on it.
Trueman’s quote states, “Every year I tell my Reformation history class that Roman Catholicism is, at least in the West, the default position. Rome has a better claim to historical continuity and institutional unity than any Protestant denomination, let alone the strange hybrid that is evangelicalism; in the light of these facts, therefore, we need good, solid reasons for not being Catholic; not being a Catholic should, in others words, be a positive act of will and commitment, something we need to get out of bed determined to do each and every day.”
So the guys discuss the validity of this claim. Scott uses his lawyerly mind to dissect and clarify what the quote is saying. In turn, Kyle seeks to define and coach about its true sense. Together, they arrive at conclusions about the current state of the Protestant church and offer some of the “good, solid reasons for not being Catholic.”

Dr. Williams shares with the guys his purpose in his emerging series on the topic of seeing Christ in the Old Testament. He discloses why he chose first Job and now Lamentations, and why these books are important for Christians walking through the suffering of this present age. From there, he reminds listeners of the context of the Book of Lamentations and how its author, Jeremiah, is a fitting type of Christ in the Old Testament. He then goes on to give insights in how to see Christ in this book of sorrows. He concludes the episode sharing how his immersion in this book prepared him for painful events in his own life.
