On the episode, Emily & I dive into the value of reflecting on where you want to contribute to the chapter & WHY you’re interested in that position. CURRENT OFFICERS: Let’s go back in time for a moment. You’ve just been elected into your officer role and you’re sitting in your scheduled officer transitions meeting. How did you feel leaving that meeting? Overwhelmed? Stressed? More questions than you started with? This is an all too common experience with our newly elected officers. It’s time we break the cycle by reflecting intentionally, understanding what was accomplished, and breaking down what you actually do to be communicated to others BEFORE your successor is even elected. Knowing how things went, what works well, and the areas of your position that have room to grow can shape how you communicate what is needed for the role with interested sister & the chapter in elections!
CURRENT OFFICERS: Want to cultivate a strong leadership culture in your chapter or community? You have a lot more say in that happening than you may think. In this episode, Emily & I discuss the necessary role that calling out strengths we see in our sisters plays in the effectiveness of our elections. We cannot assume that sisters will just apply for positions or be passionate about opportunities to contribute to the chapter. As current officers with influence in the chapter, it is our responsibility to empower emerging leaders in their skillset with a suggestion of where those skills will be best suited in the chapter. Can you believe we are already at the end of June?! As we continue into the summer, we know what is right around the corner... fall primary recruitment! While you take your time to reset & recover from this past crazy academic year, I can only imagine how stressful the new & uncertain recruitment format must be. I am sharing my recruitment experience on the episode today to give you a glimpse of how trusting the process & working through rejection as a potential new member changed my entire life. Who has struggled with comparison?? I would be thrilled to hear a sorority woman saying that she's never felt insecure, intimidated, or the need to compete with other women, but it's hard to imagine. Knowing that overcoming the culture of comparison is a shared upward battle for our sorority communities, I am so excited to have Courtney Hammons share her journey to embracing her authentic self through her experiences in Kappa Delta and the Miss America organization. Courtney currently holds the title of Miss Louisiana and has worked hard through her years of competing to cut out the noise that distracts her from being confidence in who she is and celebrating others as they are. I loved her vulnerability about the times it was difficult for her to embrace her unique strengths and how she learned that there's power in affirming the beautiful qualities we see in women instead of tearing them down out of insecurity. In a time that feels so disconnected, I believe we are all in need of a refresher about the importance of confidence in yourself and empowering others to be themselves, too ✨

While we are without a doubt living in unprecedented times, this is not the first time sorority woman have navigated uncharted territory! Our guest today was a Delta Gamma attending Harvard University when they proposed a sanction policy against single-gender organizations. Camille N’Diaye shares how being a member during this time required her to re-evaluate the value of her sorority membership and being chapter president required her to lead her sisters in advocating for their sisterhood ✨ You don’t want to miss her perspective on being a sorority woman at Harvard during this time and the responsibility we have as a sorority community to grow in inclusivity!
Have you given much thought to what sorority life will look like after bid day? On this episode, Rachel Iliff is answering one of our community's biggest questions: how do we provide the traditional in-person, relational sorority experience to our women VIRTUALLY? In her role as Internal Vice President for CU Boulder Panhellenic Council, she had hard conversations about what events and in-person programming should look like with the chapters on her campus. The questions she has asked chapters in these meetings helps leaders process through the health, safety, inclusion, and leadership implications of their decision. I loved our discussion around leaders weighing what their members want against what is in their members' best interest and how to own the decisions they make instead of redirecting the blame. If you are an officer for your chapter, you do not want to miss this! Make sure to use the questions Rachel shared when planning events for your chapter or community: 1. Are we isolating/excluding members who cannot come to in-person events for various reasons (health concerns or not having returned to campus)? 2. Is having an in-person event forcing members to make difficult decisions between their health and perceived social benefits? 3. Are we giving a perception that we are disregarding guidelines or laws in place (i.e. members hanging out without masks or socially distanced)? 4. If something bad were to happen at the event (someone or a group getting COVID) how would that reflect on your position, your chapter, your NHQ, and the Panhellenic community?
