The promise of the good life in Jesus, is a promise of a life of victory. If God is for us, who can be against us? The one who defeated death calls us His- we have nothing to fear. As we conclude this series, our commitment is to live confident, believing that His victory really is ours and that whatever this life throws our way, we won’t be overthrown. Jesus loves us, fights for us, and He has invited us to claim His victory. He is walking with us along a good path of His love, and because of Jesus, nothing can separate us from this love that brings us home.

The Good Life: Week Seven Andy Kaufman Discussion Guide
In the midst of suffering, weakness, and enemies, Paul’s desire is that we would know that God is for us and with us. God has not abandoned us in this life to fend for ourselves, He is protecting and interceding for us. There is nothing that can separate us from His love that provides and protects and His invitation is that we can experience His goodness in the midst of whatever we face.
Check out Week Six of The Good Life as Pastor Skyler unpacks Romans 8:31-34!
We have a real enemy seeking to discourage us and leave us crippled with insecurity and anxiety. He wants us to forget about the finishing work of the cross, and fall back into a life of slavery to the gods of this world. But we are invited to stand firm, remaining confident in what Jesus has done for us and in the many ways God has been working long before we were ever aware that He was. The good life is a life of confidence that God’s ways are life-giving and the identity He gives us as His children is sure. God doesn’t want us to live blown and tossed by the wind, but walking confidently in all that He has made for us. In Jesus we can be confident that God deeply loves us as His own children, and that as His children, we are living life to the full.

There is a promise for all who believe in Jesus, that there can be no comparison between the present hard times we go through and the coming good times God has set out for us. This hope allows us to wait with expectation and anticipation even if what we go through in our lives doesn’t always seem good. His invitation to us in the midst of the pain throughout our world and within our lives is to remember that the longer we wait, the deeper the joy will be when we step into all that God has promised for us. Even when we are tired of waiting, hoping, and praying, the Holy Spirit who has filled us is right alongside of us guiding our words and hearts back to God’s goodness. That’s why we can be filled with hope, and sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

Romans 8:14-17
In order to know who we are, we have to know who God is and what it really means to be His children. In Him, we are chosen to receive an unbelievable inheritance that is not just reserved for heaven, but begins now. Regardless of what hard times we may go through, we are promised that by His spirit, we can enter into the good times with him in the midst of what we face. He has chosen us to be His children, and He is a good father with good gifts. The good life in Jesus doesn’t just choose us, but calls us into all that we are and all that we were made for.

Romans 8:5-13
It’s easy to live disordered and distracted lives. Constantly focused on what more we need to do and never seeming to amount to what we hoped we would on our own. Romans 8 calls this the life obsessed with self. It is described as a life where our thoughts, priorities and decisions lead us to think more about ourselves than about God. The reality is, this focus on self leads us to a divided and dead life. Jesus’ invitation for us is to live our lives focused on God is an invitation to a life of peace and focus. When our focus is on God, the only direction He knows is life to the full. He is a God of life and goodness, and the promise is that when our focus is on Him, we will experience the good life.

DISCUSSION GUIDE
Romans 8:1-4
Our life without Jesus leaves us empty, exhausted and always trying to achieve something better. Jesus’ invitation is to lay down our own efforts in life and take up the grace, truth and hope of Jesus. With the arrival of Jesus into this world and the death of Jesus for this world, we can be filled with and embrace a new power- the power of His Holy Spirit, that fills and frees us to walk into the wide-open spaces of God’s love.

God never rebuked anyone in the Scriptures for having wealth. But he did have a problem when our stuff had us. We believe God provides and blesses each of us, and we are blessed to be a blessing. But knowing God's heart for us and how we use the resources he's given us...and actually following His ways are often two different things. Let's learn and trust that God's ways are better than ours and see how we can grow in the gift of giving.
A Test of Gratitude
Gratitude and generosity go hand in hand—gratitude wells up in generosity, inviting the blessing of God, leading to gratitude. We invite you to give yourself fully to God and experience that commitment well up to shape your heart through generosity.

A Test of Obedience: When we are obedient to God’s call to generosity, it’s not so much that we are giving TO the church, but THROUGH the church. This kind of giving allows it to be in the name of Jesus, displays God’s power, and points people to the hope we have in Him.

Romans 12 raises the bar for followers of Jesus. After 11 chapters of God's heart for his Creation and the invitation to experience a life-changing relationship through Jesus... "In view of God's Mercy...", we get real about following the way of Jesus. Quickly we discover, we were made for more than we often settle for. Romans 12:9-10
Romans 12:14-21 Christians are called to live a radically different life—blessing those who persecute them, living in harmony, avoiding arrogance, and refusing to repay evil with evil. Instead, we are called to do everything possible to live in peace and conquer evil by doing good. How do we embrace the counter-cultural way of Jesus and overcome the darkness around us? With His light.

Romans 12:11-13 If we really love, we will move from selfish to selfless lives in which we really help others, especially those in need. In Romans 12:11-13, Paul instructs us to “never be lazy” but instead to “work hard and serve ... enthusiastically,” to “practice hospitality” and that “when God’s people are in need, be ready to help them.” What might that look like for us today? How would it change the reputation Christians have if we practiced it? How might loving our neighbors in this way change their lives?

Romans 12:9-10 How will the full force of the church be unleashed? Love. In a world full of dissension, conflict, and anger, the church will stand out and be an attractive city on a hill if it lives out the love of God. That’s why Paul writes, “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them” (Romans 12:9). How can we really love, and what impact could it make if we did?

Here at Heritage Church our mission is to help people find and follow Jesus. But this isn't just our mission, it's yours, too! And this is important because following Jesus was never meant to be comfortable, but it is life-changing and you never know what awaits on the adventure. If you are a follower of Jesus, he has called you to help people find and follow him, too. But too often we are sitting on the sidelines. During this series called B.L.E.S.S. we are using this acronym to share strategies for you to get off the sidelines and take away some of the awkwardness, challenges, and obstacles that are often associated with sharing your faith. Discovering who we are changes how we live. This was the idea behind the Apostle Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus. When we surrender to Jesus our thinking, our language, our standards, even, our perspective changes. Our lives become an outward expression of our inward change. Our identity is rooted in Christ and that changes everything.

Over the last few months we’ve been building a solid foundation by revisiting the foundations of our faith. With so many new families and staff, we’re excited to revisit how our faith foundation influences who we are at Heritage Church. For some, this series will be a reminder of all the things we believe God is calling Heritage to be. For others, this series will be a fresh look at what makes us... us!

What we believe drives everything we do. In life, our habits and character also can be traced to our fundamental beliefs. As Christians, we can look to The Apostles Creed as a guidepost to the basics of our faith. It’s not some sort of religious checklist – it’s actually a place to explore what God has done through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. In this series, we will discuss the foundations of our faith and why what we believe matters so much.

There’s nothing like those cool summer nights when you sit around a fire and you begin to share stories. It’s often through those stories that we grow closer to one another. Many times when Jesus spoke, he told stories. Stories of how to live, how to love, and how to honor God. Each week we will unpack these stories that will challenge our hearts and strengthen our faith.

We often celebrate Good Friday and Easter as separate events. But that long weekend had so many events that had to happen to bring about God's ultimate plan to redeem humankind back to Him.
