New Show. New Schedule. New naming scheme. Welcome to the first episode of Season 5 of Running on Rooftops! We are catching up to all* the Marvel and DC movies we missed since we last recorded, as well as review the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel.
New Schedule Similar to our plans for last season, we are aiming for 2 episodes a month. The goal is to release one movie-related episode a month. When we started Running on Rooftops in 2015, the landscape of comic book TV shows was quite different. Four years later, there's over 3 times the amount of shows available on multiple platforms, and it has gotten too difficult to keep up with everything.
We still like podcasting and while there are too many shows, there relatively fewer movies. By focusing on movie reviews, we can deliver more content with less stress. For the second episode of the month, anything goes! We looked back at all the different types of podcasts we've produced since 2015, and asked ourselves "What have we most enjoyed doing?" With this in mind, we are going to try doing more sprints, reviews, interviews, and more.
Movie Catch Up Want to hear our opinion on all the comic book movies that came out since Avengers: Infinity War? Too bad! We forgot about Deadpool 2! Phil and Darryl give their opinions on Ant-Man and the Wasp, Venom, Spider-Man: Enter the Spiderverse and Aquaman.
Captain Marvel We welcome Captain Marvel to the MCU with a review of the Marvel's 21st new movie. How do we feel about the first Marvel movie of 2019? Does this movie party like it's 1995? Listen and find out!

Jessica Jones is back! Darryl gives his spoiler-free thoughts on Jessica Jones Season 2. This season has a fairly slow beginning. Jessica is dealing with the aftermath of killing Killgrave, and it's known by the public that she's the one that's responsible for it. This is largely thanks to Trish, who is using her talk show to highlight powered heroes and starting to investigate the people who gave Jessica powers. Also investigating is Malcolm, who is now sober, and is working closely with Jessica and picking her up off the floor each morning. Hogarth has her own arc that runs parallel to main cast's this season. Killgrave leaves a large hole to fill in the cast. In the first season, when he wasn't on the screen, you would be asking "Where's Killgrave?" or "Is this person mind controlled"? It really picks up when the main antagonists are brought forward. Then the questions you ask are, "How did this person get to this point"? and "what does this mean for Jessica"? Some characters make really frustrating choices throughout this season. There where many times where I would say "Why would you do that?" or Why would you trust this person?" It shows how toxic some people can be. In addition, while there isn't any mind control, many of the villains are very emotionally manipulative. People try to get what they want by any means, and they are often very horrible to each other. They don't have to be mind controllers to be terrible people. One of the secondary antagonists ends up slightly more sympathetic than some of the main characters. Only slightly though. When it comes to the ending, you know nothing is going to end well for Jessica. How it all resolves is unexpected, but makes you really want a season 3. Overall, Jessica Jones Season 2 is a good follow up to the first season. I ultimately didn't love it as much as season 1, but it was more consistent than other Marvel Netflix seasons. Merry Christmas! In honor of the holiday where friends and family come together, Darryl reviews Marvel's Runaways, Hulu's new teen drama in which a group of teens finds out their parents are horrible supervillains. He covers his overall thoughts on the show, and the interesting adaptation choices Marvel chose to add. This show focuses on a group of former childhood friends that drifted apart after one of their group died, Alex, one of the teens, tries to get the group back together when their parents have an annual meeting for their Charity. The teens see their parents do something horrible and... Runaway from home, while developing special abilities and tools they didn't know they had. This definitely feels like a teen show. When Gert was talking about her club, I just realized how long it's been since I thought about homeroom. I enjoy the characters so far and I'm excited to see where they end up. If teen shows are not your thing, it's fair if you do not want to try it, but I would give it a chance. I would compare it to a PG-13 rated Marvel Netflix show. Adaptation wise, Marvel is setting things up to make more narrative sense. The biggest changes so far seem to be with Chase, Karolina, and Molly. Chase was a lot more of a slacker, compared to the preppy lacrosse player he seems to be. Molly was originally the child of two mutants, but now she just seems to have powers. What really happened to Molly's parents? I feel as if they have to show up sometime. Church of the Ghibborim seems like a fair change for the Dean family from their original roles as movie stars. It feels like They seem to be more integral to the plot when in comparison to their comic book counterparts, we will have to see. I hope you enjoy the episode and the holidays. I hope that there are no human sacrifices when your family gets together. * 00:00:00 Intro * 00:00:58 - Marvel's Runaways * 00:09:52 - Adaptation Talk * 00:18:07 - Farewell and Merry Christmas

Running on Rooftops Episode 100! We are going to take a look at the Tv show that influenced most of the shows that cover, as well as the show that is referenced almost every podcast episode: Smallville. 0:07:15 - Bad * The show has not aged well - Some of the choices in music and effects are fairly cheezy in retrospect. * Bad Character Writing - A lot of this comes from how long Smallville ran, but many of the characters felt poorly used. Lana remained on the show for far too long. Jor-El and his overpowered shenanigans got very tiresome. Pete Ross was done a disservice. Finally, never forget "Henry James Olson". * Smallville Season 8 - The number of missteps in this season almost made Darryl drop watching Smallville entirely
0:18:11 - Good * The acting wasn't as bad in retrospect - Michael Rosenbaum was overall one of the better actors. His portrayal of Lex was a delight to see for seven seasons. John Glover's Lionel Luther was a fantastic villain for most of his time on the show. The Kents were way better parents than in the Man of Steel. Finally, Tom Wellings' Clark was a little stiff at times, but he did work as the character and an actor. One highlight was when he played Lionel in Clark's body. Another point to him is that his Clark wasn't as mopey as the Barry or Oliver could have been in similar situations.
00:26:33 - Take-Aways * Not being afraid to commit to the comics - Smallville was afraid to commit to being a comic book show for half of its run. The Arrowverse starts with their heroes almost fully formed. If Arrow started back in 2003, it would have taken place years before he went on the island, with his home filled with various arrows in the background of each episode. * The lost art of the Opening Theme song - A Strong opening theme song can get viewers primed and excited for the upcoming show. While cheezy, the opening theme song for Smallville still gets me a bit exciting. You can't really say much for the themes for the current run of comic TV * Fingers crossed they don't drag the current shows for too long
00:32:12 - Thanks to everyone for 100 episodes! Thanks to everyone that is subscribed to the show! Even if this your first episode, I hope you say for another 100. Also Thanks to everyone who has been on the show in the last 99 episodes. Hope you all enjoyed being on, and let's keep on running! Darryl is running solo this episode as he reviews the new Marvel TV Show "The Gifted"
The Strucker Family What surprised me the most I'm not hating the kids. Lauren is a good elder sibling, Andy was not the worst. It's also nice that the family isn't completely dysfunctional. The parents were a little less interesting. The mom is a bit stereotypical, but the Dad's dynamic as a former part of the mutant-hunting division, now trying to save his mutant kids has potential.
Mutant Underground I'm a bit surprised that Blink is used as our introduction to the Mutant Underground, but not as surprising after the fact. She was a character in the X-Men Mega Event "Age Of Apocalypse" where she was a fairly green character. However, I know her the most from the long-running Exiles comic (One of my favorite comics series BTW), where she ended up leading the team. Polaris is in an interesting position, both in her adaptation and her position in the story She may be the most high profile character from the comics, but she may also be the character with the most interesting arc at the outset of the series. The other Underground characters do not stand out too much. Thunderbird is their sensor. This is fine, but I have no feelings about Marco, the laser leader man. I'm excited to see where this family drama goes. I was honestly expecting to dislike the show, but I'm interested to see what happens next. Also, Stan Lee had a cameo!

Welcome to Season 4! Welcome to Season 4 of Running on Rooftops. If this is your first episode, Darryl and Phil are two guys that enjoy comic books and the media they are adapted to. We will be here every week to rate and review comic book tv shows and movies. There's a lot of new events ahead that we will cover this year, like Gifted, the Justice League movie and the CW four-way crossover "Crisis on Earth X". We are a spoiler-filled podcast, meaning we like to discuss the source materials for the shows we cover. So be warned, and feel free to skip around. In this episode, we cover the two-part premiere of the new ABC Series Marvel's Inhumans, and the first 2 episodes of Gotham season 4 Marvel's Inhumans This show raises a lot of questions. The biggest question being: why should we care about the Inhuman Royal Family? Something just seems off about the show, but I can see them trying to build to something epic. Overall, it does not quite meet the expectations for a show that premiered in IMAX theatres. Gotham It is hard to deny how cool it was to see both Selena and Bruce fighting in the streets, and seeing Bruce's costume evolve was a highlight. For the villains, Penguins crime licenses are amazingly stupid but straight out of a comic book. As for Scarecrow. He's really off looking, and scythe doesn't look sharp, but it's a good, not so high-level villain to face. In addition, the mob element was a highlight of season 1, so it's great to see Falcone may return Sadly, Barbara's return is tiring and the lack of spine for the cops was frustrating. It feels like the GCPD goes from corrupt to clean every few seasons, but it's a good place for Jim to come in as the commissioner he needs to be. Gotham Season 3 Review Let's get started by talking about the season three finale of Gotham, Heavy Dirty Soul. Not sure if it's a reference to something but things got pretty heavy, things got pretty dirty and weren't terribly soulful. This finale was pretty effective in wrapping up all the various plots from this past season. We had all of Al Tetch's blood coming into fruition in the whole virus plot. All of Nygma's as well as the Penguin's various plots came to an end. Finally, we have all of the Court of Owl stuff wrapped up in the previous episode, as well as the League of Shadows being introduced.
Quality Content in the Finale Ra's Al Ghul was pretty good. He seemed like a pretty spot on depiction. Not a fan of the whole prophecy angle for Batman coming about or Bruce's special destiny or whatever. I do think it's a pretty spot-on looking Ra's. The whole Tabitha and Selina starting to work together thing was a good choice. Another positive thing would be the end of the whole Penguin and Riddler storyline. Penguin's gambit at the end did kind of remind me of how invested I was in his story in the first season. The very last scene where Bruce is dressed up as a vigilante was kind of surprising. I had a feeling that he's kind of almost old enough to start doing something like that. The moment did have kind of shades of Smallville season nine where Clark wore that dark outfit for almost pretty much the same thing as what Bruce is wearing except he didn't wear a mask
Elements that were not so good Alfred getting stabbed is always a bad time. In general Bruce's treatment of Alfred throughout the last few episodes could be better. Which to be fair, he has been brainwashed, but he did stab Alfred and then as soon as Alfred woke up from his healing coma or whatever, he just asks him, "Oh no, Alfred. What should I do?" And not, "Alfred, how are you? I'm sorry. The whole Jim turning evil and Lee going bad as well with the virus seemed like too much. Hopefully, after this season, Jim becomes a decent cop and not tortured, dark, evil cop Jim. I couldn't care about the whole Butch, Tabitha subplot because I really just stopped caring about Barbara, I know she was important, but I forgot she had some importance.
Gotham Season 3's improvements While the season finale had its issues, the Gotham Season 3 may have been the strongest season yet. The last scene in the first mid-season finale where Jim has to shoot Mario when Lee doesn't know that Mario's about to kill her was really powerful and really quality filmmaking. Also, Jerome's return was great. I wasn't really excited about it at first, but it was executed fantastically. They were really good episodes and it feels like the Joker's actually arrived in the show. I don't know if that's one of the motivations for Bruce to actually start being a vigilante in this next season, but it was a good turning point for both him and Jerome. Anyway, I think Gotham has improved, but I do think that ever since they started the whole rebranding from Mad City to Heroes Rise, the quality kind of started to fall, ironically. It's been improving and it's been enjoyable. Most of the season has been a really good time, but I just think if they got their act together in the last half, It would have been a really great season.

At the same time, it's the show with the biggest hill to climb. We are not too in love with the show and the main character, but if they pull off that we think they are, it may be a great show by the end. Stuff we did like: 1. We liked how Mace was much more proactive in this episode, he really wanted to help Daisy and Simmons, and didn’t care about the consequences from the senator were going to be. 2. Coulson and Mac speak so much truth. I’m so happy they are actually to wipe the mind of the robot that’s seen the unthinkable evil of the Darkhold. Also, all of Mac's references were a delight. 3. The Radcliffe twist was very well done. 4. Slingshot, both her character and the web series are a delightful addition to the series.
Stuff we didn’t like: * The whole Senator Nadeer brother plot was very silly, almost too silly * I wish Daisy kept the heavy eye shadow. It was a nice look

Four Good things about the Invasion! crossover 1. Supergirl in Arrowverse brings a lot of joy to everything: Also. Mick's reactions to Supergirl were pretty funny. 2. Three fantastic action sequences: The fight under mind control, Arrow team vs all the past Arrow Villains, All Heroes Versus all Dai Dominators were all fantastic. 3. Arrow 100th Episode: This episode and the end of the crossover, gave a fantastic tribute to all that the show has done. 4. Everytime Diggle gets awkward brings joy to our hearts. It's not a crossover unless John Diggle gets awkward.
Four Not so Good things about the crossover 1. How quickly Cisco was up to time traveling when he has been mad at Barry for that very reason. We know he's a geek, but come on. 2. Forced conflicts with Supergirl: Mad Dog made more sense, but Oliver's seemed out of character 3. Slade’s absence from the Arrow episode feels like there's a gap when he's missing from the lineup: He could have at least given a voice over. 4. Citizen Steel’s outfit: It's just not very good outside of the CGI effect. It could have been better, but it could have been worse.

He can lift Thor’s Hammer, fought against his father, Ultron and is voiced by Paul Bettany. The topic of love a is a major part of Vision’s current solo book, in which he makes a family of his own. This sprint is going to cover my impressions of the first arc of the series, in volume 1 of The Vision (2015 - )
