Valuable Venus turning retrograde motion on Saturday, March 1st. Venus’ retrograde passage lasts six weeks, overlapping with Lent, underscoring a primary theme of Venus retrograde: temptation, on all fronts.
Watch for old relationships surfacing and a time of buyer beware. Venus retrograde is a notorious time of buyer’s remorse, especially for luxury goods. It is not the best time to: start a business; make new investments; buy homes, cars or luxury items; go on a first date or initiate new relationships.
It is the perfect time for Spring cleaning and to practice the RE words including: research, review, retreat, renew, restore, rest, and more, especially the second half of March when Messenger Mercury is also retrograde.
The first eclipse of 2025 occurs on Friday, March 14th. A total Full Moon lunar eclipse; its themes are control vs. surrender, expectation management, and deep cleansing with healing potential.
With Sun and Saturn aligning to Motivating Mars during the eclipse, trust your intuition. The very next day, Messenger Mercury turns retrograde on Saturday, March 15th. Expect some very big messages.
The time between eclipses is a notorious energetic black hole. The darkness is intensified by the overlapping Venus-Mercury retrogrades. Expect little to no traction.
Make use of the second half of March: Plan and prepare; surrender what you cannot control; add music to your life, in your home, car and at work; use water therapy and exercise of all kinds: steam, frozen, or liquid, and to change your scenery.
Now is the time to clean house, both literally and physically. The Virgo Full Moon eclipse directs us to look at our health, wellness, work and lifestyle routines and habits.
A few days later the Spring Equinox occurs on Thursday, March 20th. We are at a the threshold of a portal. There is no going back, returning to previous ways.
Heading into the New Moon eclipse in Aries on Saturday, March 29th watch for illusion and the delusional as well as pristine understanding. Words have rarely mattered more. Choose your words wisely as you will be heard now. Set clear intentions.

Veteran astrologer and Mystical Messages host Hilary dives into the cosmic nitty gritty for the first half of 2025. The New Year definitely promises to be a ride; so hold on tight to the steadfast constants in your life. Interior planetary retrogrades kick off 2025 with Motivating Mars in nurturing Cancer the Crab. From the outset, the year demands (or invites) change. With Powerful Pluto opposing Motivating Mars, we are pushed out of our comfort zones. The old ways simply will not work. Pluto joins the Moon in avant garde Aquarius from Day One. Now in Aquarius through 2043, Pluto prompts our invention, innovation and non-mainstream approach to life.
There is no rush. All three interior planets Mercury, Mars and venus will be retrograde, back to back, now through mid-April, giving us ample time to feel into how we can reinvent ourselves and rise to the demands posed by 2025. Take advantage of these slow motion planets because by the end of April, shock and awe greet us at nearly every turn.
What makes 2025 so cosmically unusual is the planetary changing of the guard en masse. Fully five outer planets change sign within eight months-time. This is very rare indeed. Why? Planets beyond Mars move very, very slowly, especially the outer three. From November 2024 through July 2025, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will shift energetically. We move from earth and water to fire and air elements, turning from practical, grounded and intuitive (earth and water signs) to creative, innovative, idea-oriented and communicative (fire and air signs). You will feel these shifts. Our lived experience at the beginning of 2025 will be incredibly different than by the end of the year.
So it is really important to sink into the interior planetary slow-going afforded us during the first few months. January opens with Motivating Mars retrograde motion. Mars is the gas pedal of the zodiac, the kick in the pants to get us out of bed in the morning. Retrograde, Mars turns our energy inward, focusing on self-nurturing, home, family and ancestral patterns as it cycles through Cancer the Crab from January 4th through April 17th. Deep in mid-winter, it is a convenient time for this passage.
Our energy feels sluggish through the end of February. Watch for lack of motivation and general inertia. Key themes with Mars retrograde in Cancer are: food, family, self-care, diet and digestion, house, residence, home improvement projects, ancestors, hospice and life endings, maternal figures in your life (mom, sisters, aunts, grandmothers), psychological conditioning and programming, biological inheritance, nation, country.
Thursday, January 30th: Game Changer Uranus turns direct motion. You may feel a marked gear thrust forward. In Taurus, Uranus awakens our values, self-worth, skills and talents, relationship to money and all resources. Notice where this is active for you.
February is a remarkably quiet month cosmically speaking. I strongly recommend taking advantage of the calm before March madness descends! Generous Jupiter turns direct motion in Gemini on Tuesday, February 4th. Jupiter is the titan of abundance, learning and expansion. In Gemini, communication flows more easily; information you are seeking or sharing is readily available.
Monday, February 24th: Motivating Mars finally turns direct motion! Notice how your energy picks up steam. Where we felt lethargic, Mars now lights a fire under us, actively urging us to tend to our self-care, family, our home, elders, and how we cook and feed ourselves. Enjoy the last week of February when all the interior planets are briefly direct motion to book travel plans, sign major contracts and documents, purchase large ticket items.
March Key Dates: Very busy cosmic month
Sunday, March 2nd Valuable Venus turns retrograde in Aries. Watch temptation on all fronts: tempting love affairs heading nowhere and impulse buying things, especially luxury goods that you do not need. Also watch for all variety of relationships from the past resurfacing: old friends, relatives, romantic partners. Venus is retrograde March 2-April 13th and it is not a great time to initiate any relationships or launch businesses.
In the midst of this stretch, Friday, March 14th delivers the first eclipse of 2025, a total lunar eclipse in Virgo. Health, wellness, service, work, habits, practices and routines move front and center now. We are asked to surrender what we cannot control.
The very next day, Saturday, March 15th: Messenger Mercury turns retrograde in Aries until Monday, April 7th. The great news is we get both Mercury and Venus retrogrades out of the way at the same time! Watch for communication snafus, heated arguments and misunderstandings, overpromising things you cannot commit to, avoid signing major contracts or key documents, and hold off on booking travel plans or buying phones, tablets, laptops when possible until mid-April.
Life kicks into overdrive with the second eclipse on Saturday, March 29th, a partial solar eclipse in Aries. Look where you are incited or invited into action? Standing up for yourself, defending the vulnerable, and/or trying anything new to you, be it methods, exercise, travel, food, methods of thinking, and more are on the table now.
Underscoring the urge to explore the untried and new to us is soulful Neptune’s shift into pioneering Aries on Monday, March 31st. Neptune is the planet of the soul, dreams, the subconscious. Ephemeral Neptune is not especially comfortable cycling through Aries, the first sign and first fire sign of the zodiac. Its key phrase is I AM. Rules the head, identity, self, war, conflict, battle. Known for physicality, leadership, athleticism, initiative, impulse, lack of follow through, action, doing (not being), up for/willing to try anything. June 2021 is a slippery little sucker. The month opens wedged between two eclipses and Mercury retrograde in its own sign of Gemini.

April is the customary time for bursting forth on all fronts in life. With our push forward, up, out and onward, there may often be rush to judgment or impulsive action that catches up with us later on. After a languid winter made infinitely worse and more confining by the Covid pandemic, we are rarin’ to go straight out of the gate. Fortunately, the cosmic energies offer tremendous support to move forward with every aspect of our life now.
Why?
On April 1st, we are just past half way through an unusual astrological phase where all ten planets in our galaxy are direct motion. Unusual in the prolonged length of time the planets are direct, over two months. This phase will end during the final days of April when Transformer Pluto turns retrograde for the next several months. Until then, we enjoy fairly unfettered cosmic motion. So take full advantage!
As you hit the gas pedal of your life, it is a good thing to remember that there is little to hold your horses, cosmically speaking, as April begins. So it is on us to hit the pause button if we come to a cross roads or key decision. Not only are all of the planets smoothing our path forward, but several key alignments and planetary placements offer energy enhancement.
Such as you might ask?
As April opens, Motivating Mars in Gemini aligns with both titans Generous Jupiter and Taskmaster Saturn, in Aquarius. We connect on all cylinders, to ideas, to people both groups and individuals, using technology as we go. Our information gathering, sharing and disseminating is at peak performance; so if you have a message to broadcast, the first week of April is the time to release what you have to say; especially Sunday and Monday, April 4th and 5th when Messenger Mercury enters fiery Aries at an attention-getting degree. Time to speak your piece and how!
As Mercury joins Valuable Venus and the Sun in Aries, our get up and go feels super charged. Mercury rules our thoughts, mind, language and words. Loosely paired with the Sun, our will and Venus (relationships) we have no time to waste. Get ON with it already! The long winter months with planets in Cautious Capricorn and Dreamy Pisces are over. Enough considering, evaluating and reflecting. It is time to act and now. S/he who hesitates is lost, right? Of course right!]
So hopefully you have finished your research and analysis by the end of March; because the impulse to pull the trigger between Sunday, April 4th and mid-month is at peak torque. Our minds are made up and suddenly we’re racing from 0-100 in 2.5 seconds flat. Where is the dotted line so we can sign? How fast can we get it or get there, or make something happen, whatever that is, and ask ourselves why did we wait so long to do this? We want to know it, do it, or live it now.
Yes, this is the rapidity of the triple Aries energy at play. So in your rush, especially with large purchases and investments, remember to take a minute to check your calculations. Trust me: you do not want to live with buyer’s remorse or any I TOLD YOU SO of the up-coming Taurus energy later this month. It won’t hurt anyone to run the numbers on a prospective purchase or sleep on a decision for just one night.
During the dark phase of the moon, Friday, April 9-Sunday, April 11, before the New Moon very late on the 11th. This is one catalytic New Moon as fiery Sun, Moon and Venus in Aries aligns with Jupiter in Aquarius: meaning, we are FULL of ideas and how to get them done. We are FULL of ideas and how to get them done. The trick with this New Moon is taking measured turns with impulsive versus pragmatic energy.
The Aries trio challenges transformer Pluto in Capricorn. Our will and emotions have a great big foot on the accelerator while Pluto says not so fast: If you’re going to do anything, do it right. Build what you want but build it to last. Otherwise, impulse decisions will get the better of you now, like pouring gasoline on a bonfire. However, when managed effectively, this New Moon energy can accomplish anything and quickly. So set your intentions on Monday or Tuesday, the 12th or 13th. Remember to handwrite 3-5 goals you seek to accomplish over the next month or season. Then plant in the ground or carefully set alight.
The temperature begins to lower noticeably a few days later when Venus, Mercury and the Sun shift into earthy Taurus in easy succession. From Thursday, April 15th through Monday, the 19th, the hot Aries engine turns over into a gentle purr. The Garden Party is ON! Valuable Venus leads the energy shift as she rolls into her home sign of Taurus on the 15th. Here, she feels at home taking her time, creating what is beautiful and sensual yet practical. How does she procure her triple threat creations: effective, efficient and luscious? Venus wastes neither time, money nor resources producing; knows what everyone can use or relate to, especially the impossible-to-buy for…she has exactly the right, just the perfect little gift. Life is art; living an art form, Venus says. Designing, cultivating, planting, growing and harvesting, Venus in her rulership Taurus comfort us as only Mother Earth can.
By the following Monday, April 19th, both Messenger Mercury and the Sun join Venus in Taurus, gradually joining Radical Uranus. We cannot help but feel life slow down into a more even-keeled, methodical pace, remarkably different from the fire-brand, nearly manic first weeks of April. With four planets in Taurus now, we find ourselves moving gradually, even gracefully, tasting what life has to offer, feeling textures and, yes, smelling the roses too. Taurus is primordial building block energy. She is both the farmer, sowing seeds of nourishing food, master craftsman and designer, building a lovely and functional home, with a garden, of course.
As the Sun (our will), Mercury (our minds and words), and Venus (our relationships) all converge with the Great Awakener Uranus over the last half of April, our values may shift. Taurus is the “show me the money” sign. It rules worth, and yes our self-worth, our skills and talents, how we apply these to earn money. Uranus turns everything upside down and cycling through super stable Taurus makes for an uncomfortable fit. We have seen the results of this combo rendered through economic uncertainty borne out of the Covid pandemic. Uranus asks: what are your time and talents worth? Are you using them wisely? To the most effective benefit? If not, should you be cultivating different skills? Then it sets about changing things up, to intentionally push us out of our comfort zone, to awaken us to our greatest Self.
How?
Uranus awakens us through change, sudden events or surprises, what we know as plot twists or life’s little bends in the road. When each of the interior planets, Sun, Mercury and Venus first pair then move past Uranus, we feel mini- earthquakes. These may take one of many forms, such as “ah-hah!” moments, flashes of insight and realization, “why did it take me so long to understand this…?” to much greater turns, unpredictable events that shake and shock. FYI: Uranus rules lightning, electricity and earthquakes. This is breakdown and breakthrough energy. For some, it may feel like a make or break time. So it is helpful that Motivating Mars rolls into compassionate Cancer the Crab on Friday, April 23rd. Our actions are softened as we are drawn toward how we feel, or can best nurture our family and ourselves.
Emotions may be running a wee bit high as Mars enters emotional Cancer, stoking the waxing Full Moon energies. The last weekend of April looks particularly turbulent heading into the Full Moon in Scorpio on Monday, April 26th. The energy that weekend is intensified as Powerful Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, prepares to turn retrograde the very next day on Tuesday, the 27th. Suffice to say, it is enough to have one of these events in and of itself; having them paired together is well, loaded. Pluto and its sign Scorpio reveal what has been hidden, especially with intention. Under the blazing light of the Full Moon, old secrets come out of the woodwork; karma comes a-calling. If you have anything to own up to, this week is the time for complete accountability. If not, please do your part to minimize any drama that typically roils around a Full Moon.
The very long stretch of direct motion planets now comes to an end with Pluto’s retrograde on the 27th. We will not see another forward thrust of all ten planets until February 2022. So make the most of April’s fiercely brave first weeks by planting seeds of value and worthiness, even if that means breaking out of or breaking apart what holds you back, keeps you from full soulful living. If Covid taught us anything, it certainly drove home: to thine own self be true.
Now, I would like to briefly talk about the Pluto Return for the United States. Many people have heard of a Saturn return because these passages mark significant stages in a human life. Saturn takes 30 years to cycle around an astrology chart; Pluto, however, takes 248 years to return to its point of origin on a chart. So human beings do not experience a Pluto return. However, nations and long standing business or entities do experience a Pluto return. And the United States is on the cusp of experiencing it now in 2024. Because the United States was born on July 4, 1776 and 248 years later, Pluto will return to its original placement in the chart of our country.
Pluto is the planet of transformation, psychology and power. Mythologically, it is the god of the underworld. Pluto and its sign Scorpio have to do with our shadow, that which we do not acknowledge about ourselves, what we disown or run away from. It is the ugly stuff we sweep under the rug or hide in the closet. And yet, when we bring it out and show it to the world, it reveals our greatest strengths and power. Think of anything buried in the ground, such as gold, diamonds, or oil. These are treasures that when brought to the surface are of tremendous value and purpose.
So, now, as we in the USA approach our Pluto return, we confront what has been intentionally buried, ignored or swept under the rug. Such facets of our history as racism, economic inequality, exploitation of natural resources, confinement of our native first people, and more.
The return of Pluto in the next three years to its original position in the astrology birth chart of the USA, we will collectively experience what has been intentionally hidden, suppressed and repressed since the birth of our nation. Pluto’s return in our chart unearths, reveals and brings up to the light anything that must be seen, acknowledged and addressed.
Collectively, we are shown in vivid technicolor what we need to take a very hard look at. There is no more ignoring or turning away from the ugliness that is part of our nation’s heritage. As our darkest parts are revealed, we will see the absolute treasures and hidden gems to be brought up and out to the surface of our lives, to be acknowledged and yes, ultimately, celebrated. While this process involves some very hard work individually and collectively, the process is extremely healing as we accomplish this effort. The work is a marathon, not done in a week or even a year, but when done well, over time and continuously. The time is upon us now to do this great work.

Without hyperbole, the kindest weeks of 2021 occur during the month of March. All of the planets are moving forward as March opens, creating calmer days with much less cosmic activity stirring the ether. And while there are occasional periods where all the planets in our galaxy turn forward together, it is rare indeed to have them direct motion for such a long time: between February 21st and April 27th, just over two months, every single planet will be turning forward.
In concert with this, the balance of March lends a particularly unifying energy. The Sun, our will, and how we engage with the world, along with mystical Neptune and Valuable Venus all cycle through inspirational Pisces now. Imagination, dreams, divine guidance, and trusting our beliefs, soak into our beings. Feel the waves of life or actual water lapping up around you. Listen to music drifting you into another frame of mind.
Pisces and its planet Neptune rule consciousness itself, our soul and spirit. It is the energy of a thousand souls singing the same verse together at a concert. It is transcendental. During March, you cannot DO water and music enough. Whether you are on, in, around or near, ANY kind of water will do: vapor/steam, balmy ocean, frozen ice, tranquil lake. Same with music: pick your pleasure. What makes you come to life? Make your heart and feet THUMP?!
The final sign of the zodiac, Pisces is a deeply cleansing, healing and unifying energy. Right now, we need every single drop of this water sign to wash away the anger, grief and discouragement so prevalent now. Fostering this gentle go-with- the-flow energy is planetary ruler Neptune in its own sign, Pisces, along with its younger sibling Venus, which shines in emotional Pisces; here she is imbued with super powered grace and love for all, helping us reach across our perceived divides and differences to bridge the gaps. Venus and Neptune remind us that we are all children of the universe; we share more in common than not. How can you be a force for unity?
Just a few days into the month, on Thursday, March 4th, Motivating Mars turns into communicative Gemini, sharpening our minds and our words. Gemini is the salesman of the zodiac; when switched on, it is powerfully persuasive using focused attention and intimate contact of the moment. Mars moves into Gemini the exact same day that Generous Jupiter pairs up with Messenger Mercury, ruler of Gemini; so expect strong or particularly noteworthy messages on or around March 4th. Gradually through the month, Mars joins the lunar North Node and both align to three planets in Connective Aquarius: Taskmaster Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury. Sink into and soak up mystical feeling, windswept inspiration, unparalleled intuitive perception, divinely guided actions. If you are planning to get married, this week is it! It gets my pick for 2021!
The magical energy continues unfolding through the New Moon on Saturday, March 13th, marking new beginnings just one week before the Spring Equinox. Remember to handwrite 3-5 intentions, prayers or goals that you seek to manifest in the coming season. With the abundant water energy this New Moon, cast your goals into a moving body of water or water them generously after you plant them in the softening spring earth.
Three days later, Messenger Mercury FINALLY moves out of Aquarius, where it has been since early January. Shifting into Pisces, it gradually challenges Mars and the lunar north node in Gemini, marking the trickiest part of March. The Gemini Mars-North Node can spin, sell and persuade their way (meaning YOU) into or out of anything; while Piscean Mercury wants so much to BELIEVE. Our challenge here is to discern: what is real, clarifying fact from fiction and truth from illusion. The stretch from Friday, March 19th to the 26th is particularly slippery.
It is ESPECIALLY important that you have all relevant information so you may make informed decisions; that you listen to integrate and learn rather than to listen to merely reply; so remember to hit the pause button and reflect, to ask more questions if you are uncertain or if your gut/intuition tells you something is awry. Let’s call this month what it really is: THE BIG SHIFT. We are witnessing and living history now. It is a dark night of the soul on a collective scale and not for the faint of heart. Such a momentous time seldom occurs and there is both immense chaos and ripe opportunity for those paying attention.
How do we manage or muddle through this passage? Manage your expectations, of what is feasible, reasonable, and possible. A top priority is to take care of ourselves, our loved ones, our health, and well-being. Rest assured, the rest will take care of itself. Ask: Where are your efforts best concentrated? Make small goals to move yourself forward each day. Rely on and use creative and innovative thinking. Keep an open mind. I cannot stress this enough as everyone seems to have an opinion and think theirs is the only one that matters.
We are deep in mid-winter now and inclined to turn inward. It is a time of reflection and taking stock to prepare for the growing season ahead. Aligning with our reflective mood, is Messenger Mercury’s retrograde cycle that began last month, at the end of January, and continues in reverse gear for the next three weeks, until February 20th. This is a natural part of the planetary cycle, especially helpful for Mercury which rules our mind, thoughts and communication. For if we were always pressing forward, we’d mentally exhaust ourselves, fizzle and burn out.
Take advantage of this mental rest phase of Mercury retrograde by employing the RE words: Research, rest, review, renovate, relax, revisit, reclaim… It is an excellent time to clean out and take stock, whether a closet or your health habits. Until February 20th, refrain from major purchases (cars, appliances, homes); avoid purchasing technology products such as new phones, laptops or tablets; and hold off on signing significant contracts or documents. Do your REsesarch for planned projects or potential products you need to purchase.
Now is the month to dive into innovation as we have loads of help on this front: As February begins, five, yes, FIVE out of ten planets in our galaxy are in the inventive air sign of Aquarius. These planets will be in Aquarius for the first three weeks, the balance of the month. That is a whole lotta air. So let’s talk Aquarius: what you need to know about its upsides and challenges.
The second to last sign of the zodiac, Aquarius is a fixed air sign, meaning it has tremendous stamina, perseverance and strength around ideas and knowledge. The air signs communicate. Aquarius explores the information that Gemini gathers and shares and that Libra designs and mediates. As a fixed sign, the buck stops with Aquarius: it takes collected data and connects the dots, cementing it into knowledge. Aquarius’ key phrase is: I KNOW.
Just how does Aquarius know so much?
Through trial and error, inventing, testing theories, and experimenting, whether with humanitarian solutions or tangible products, or both, such as a vaccine to help eradicate a global pandemic. Aquarius links together, ideas or people. It is the collective and collective consciousness.
The caution with Aquarian energy is that it is so focused on its mission that it can completely forget about the rest of the world. Think of an eccentric, mad scientist. Like Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius, it does its own thing in its own way. Uranus is the only planet in our solar system that rotates vertically instead of horizontally. It is known as the change agent and the Great Awakener. Its purpose you ask? To redirect us when we are off path or heading in the wrong direction; such as when life suddenly redirects us. And yes, it uses shock, surprise, sudden events to shake us up and down. Think of lightning strikes and earthquakes, both ruled by Uranus.
Aquarians march to their own drummer; their theme song might as well be “Don’t Fence Me In”. Its essence is: different, non-mainstream, avant-garde, unusual, and its favorite words are the three Rs: Radical, Rebellious, Revolutionary. This is where Aquarians can run into trouble, especially as a collective, a disorderly mob. We have certainly seen this with the storming of the Capitol in Washington DC.
However, the highest use of this energy is for the benefit of the collective. Think of noteworthy Aquarians who worked for the common good: Thomas Edison, the record holder for patents; Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt. Innovators all and professors of the human experiment. The latter two stepped into the arena during huge times of national crises and delivered solutions to end human suffering. Lincoln ended slavery while Roosevelt put people to work.
Deep into our current time of crisis, we can certainly use Aquarian innovation now.
This February, if we manage the dominant Aquarian energy for our collective, highest good, solutions abound. Think of it like playing an instrument within a band. The other band members need you to do your part as much as you need them. So let’s take a closer look at the five planets energetically weighing in most of this month, the Aquarian Fab Five.
First, the Sun, our will and identity, how we engage with the world cycles through Aquarius until the 18th. Supporting the Sun is Messenger Mercury, the ruler of our mind and our mouth. Mercury has super powers in Aquarius, delighting in the playground of connecting ideas. It is spending an especially long time in this sign, from January 9 to March 15th, due to its three-week retrograde cycle. This lengthy stretch is an enormous help to us for solving stubborn problems through technology or innovative strategies.
Likewise Valuable Venus, brings people together, connecting us. Aquarius is detached and emotionally removed; so Venus, the planet of love and relationships is particularly cool and reserved in this sign. The higher use of her Aquarian passage is to observe how people may best collaborate.
The interior planets closest to the Sun are vastly strengthened by the two Titans Generous Jupiter and Taskmaster Saturn which shifted into Aquarius last December 2020. Together, we are concerned with the Greater Good; Aquarius is humanitarian, and wants what’s best for everyone, the common man most of all. Aquarius treats everyone the same whether the garbage man or the CEO.
As we approach mid-month, the New Moon joins the Aquarian Cadre on Thursday, February 11th, giving us six planets in the air sign for two days from late Tuesday, February 9th through Thursday, the 11th. An Aquarius Moon is unemotional; the upside of this is that it allows for cooler heads to prevail. Such detachment cannot be overvalued in such tumultuous times and will be greatly needed now as Saturn and Uranus square off exactly for the first time on Tuesday, February 16th. Think of this as father and son, or brothers, in a stand-off, really dug in, or going at it with all their might in a boxing ring.
Uranus in Taurus demands we change our values, how we earn a living, the use of our skills, talents, and how we use our resources including Mother Earth. Up against Uranus, Saturn in Aquarius resists, pushing back hard by asking exactly how we are going to meet the needs of so many people? The hungry, the unemployed, the uninsured. It is helpful to watch out for surly My Way or the Highway attitudes. Remember: there are many ways to tackle a problem. All roads lead to Rome. The crux of this planetary clash between Saturn and Uranus forces us to work together to solve our common problems. When we form a human bridge and unite to solve what plagues us we triumph. Such as now, literally, during a pandemic, with the development of a Covid vaccine in record time.
If we stubbornly refuse to budge, as many will, then disorder and disruption inevitably prevails. Change is a coming whether we like it or not. Uranus and its sign Aquarius rule change. One thing is for sure: the only constant in life is change. And we are pushed like crazy to change and change now.
This may result in many of us feeling stretched really thin, perhaps beyond our breaking point. Sometimes, it is said, you have to breakdown to breakthrough. So as a kindly mental health suggestion, it is the perfect time to slow down and rest; especially given that the first three weeks of February, Mercury is retrograde.
The planetary Fab 5 converge in Aquarius until February 18th, after which the Sun rolls into dreamy Pisces. The final sign of the zodiac, Pisces is the sign of faith, to believe, of dreams and inspiration. Pisces is the soul itself and seeks to unite us further where Aquarius left of collecting and gathering us together. With the Sun in Pisces, it is imperative to focus on what is possible, what you do want to manifest, not what you do not want in your life. As John Lennon sang, “Imagine all the people, living life in peace.”
Two days after the Sun moves into Pisces, Messenger Mercury turns direct motion, continuing forward in Aquarius. Its cycle through this airy sign of ideas and invention is most welcome and highly favored as Mercury is considered exalted in Aquarius. Meaning, it shines so well in this intellectual sign. Our minds are sharper, our words land better, and we connect to the right people and ideas while Mercury cycles through Aquarius. Common sense AND ingenuity prevail. Mercury’s lengthy passage through its favorite sign of Aquarius is one of the blessings of 2021. Count on this window to help you solve problems and find answers to stubborn questions.

The astrology for the New Year is about forming something useful out of the rubble of the past. 2020 was an exhausting year due to the virtual siege of cosmic events in one calendar year.
2021 will pick up where the old year left off. The crisis is over; yet the battle is not quite won. In the coming months, we begin sorting through the remains and pick up the pieces, what to salvage and put to good use.
2021 will not barrage us with nearly the onslaught of cosmic triggers. The year will be calmer and gives a reprieve for us. There are remarkably fewer major cosmic events in 2021: there are 4 eclipses instead of 6, Mars and Venus stay direct all year, and the titans Pluto-Jupiter and Saturn are separating as we speak and moving on, the latter two giving us breathing room in airy Aquarius. With much less stirring of the celestial pot so to speak, we are able to move about our business with less interruption.
So here’s the month by month breakdown of 2021
JANUARY:
The overarching theme setting the tone for the entire year begins straight off the bat. With Saturn is firmly in Aquarius, it begins a year-long showdown with Uranus. We take a cue from this dynamic: Old versus new is the dominant theme for all of 2021.
Both Uranus and Saturn are in FIXED signs: Saturn is in Aquarius, a fixed air sign and Uranus is in Taurus, the earth fixed sign. Never say die is their motto. They stick to their beliefs, work, or relationships see something through to the finish. As a result the fixed signs are notable for stubbornness, inflexibility and yes, rigidity. So you can guess what’s coming.
Saturn the Taskmaster, is now in Aquarius, sign of innovation, revolutionary, technology, groups, networks, friends, the humanitarian, teams. In this air sign Saturn mandates the NEW, whether products, methods, processes. Unusual, alternative, non-mainstream, avant garde are Aquarius’ favorite words. For the first half of the year, Generous Jupiter is closely paired with Saturn, marking the Age of Aquarius.
Meanwhile Uranus is cycling through Taurus. And it is not so comfortable in earthy, sensual Taurus, the SHOW ME the money sign. And in Taurus, the sign of natural resources and values, Uranus awakens us to how we utilize our skills and talents, our worth, the money we earn, in a whole different way.
Boxing with each other in the beginning of 2021, Saturn sets the tone and agenda while Uranus counters and disrupts. Uranus changes our values, what we value and assign worth to; while task master Saturn says you’ll need to come up with something new to meet the crisis at hand.
On Wednesday, January 13th, a new moon occurs conjoined to transformer Pluto in austere Capricorn. The very next day, Uranus turns direct motion on Thursday, January 14th. This gear shift can often stir up extremely unpredictable and unexpected events. Take it easy this particularly stretch of the January; especially through the 21st of the month as Mars approaches Radical Uranus, both challenging the Titans Jupiter-Saturn duo. You will feel the wheels grinding against each other, big time resistance.
The good news is that we have a two week window from January 15th-29th where the all ten planets are cycling forward. We accomplish our tasks more easily. Keeping an open mind and heart during this two week stretch is key as we head into the Full Moon in Leo on January 28th opposite Jupiter, Sun and Saturn in Aquarius, with Uranus in the middle. Watch deeply entrenched positions where each person or group believes their way is the ONLY way.
Our perception of the opposing viewpoint is big as we want to imagine; if each was willing to give a little, our problems would solve themselves.
Messenger Mercury turns retrograde on Friday, January 29th. Our thoughts turn inward for the next three weeks in the sign of Aquarius, the Great Connector and Inventor, problem-solver extraordinaire. Remember to practice the Retrograde RE words: rest, restore, review, relax, renew, renovate, revisit. The messenger planet stays retrograde for three weeks until February 20th.
FEBRUARY:

MARCH.
All Planets are direct!!! Now that Messenger Mercury turned direct last month, all ten planets are forward motion through the very end of April. TAKE ADVANTAGE!!!! Build baby build; put your dreams into motion. Now is the time. We rarely get planetary opportunities like this once in a while so make the most of it.
Mars turns into Gemini a sign where Mars sharpens its tongue. Listen carefully as Gemini is the salesman of the zodiac; so caveat emptor. Watch that you do not spread yourself too thin and overcommit, or pick a fight just for the sake of it. Watch your thoughts and mind your mouth.
Set your intentions on the New Moon on Saturday, March 13th. This weekend is one of the highlights of 2021 as the energy is SO gorgeous. If you are looking for a date to get married this year, the weekend of March 13th and 14th is IT. Talk about TRUE LOVE! All New Moons are about new beginnings but WOW, we are enveloped by Love, Love, Love as we set intentions for our goals and wishes. The Sun and Moon conjoin Venus and her older sibling Neptune, all in compassionate Pisces. These four align helpfully with transformer Pluto and Generous Jupiter. We come together, we unify, our understanding grows. We BELIEVE.
Mercury enters Pisces, the visionary. Create a vision of what you want to achieve over the next few months or by year’s end. Especially as a few days later on the 20th of March the Sun enters Aries, marking the Spring Equinox. Valuable Venus joins Mr. Sun on Monday, the 22nd and we have all the energy and fortitude we could ever ask for.
The Full Moon in Libra occurs on Sunday, March 28th. Libra strives for balance in all things, especially relationships. Watch for an us-versus-them mentality around the end of March. The good news is healer Chiron pairs up with the Sun-Venus duo at Full Moon, delivering new healing modalities and measures.
APRIL:
April 2021 could live up to its reputation as the most violent month statistically with the balance of planets in Aries; Messenger Mercury joins the Sun-Venus duo in Aggressive Aries and we are impatient and impulsive. This fearless threesome are joined by the New Moon in Aries on April 10-11th. We have enough energy, will power or firepower, to blast through any resistance put up by the on-going Saturn-Uranus stand-off. In your rush to get going, just don’t forget to hand write your New Moon intentions on the 11th or 12th of April.
Valuable Venus moves into her own sign of earthy Taurus on Thursday April 15th followed by Mercury’s turn into Taurus four days later on the 19th and the Sun on the 20th. Look under the hood, focus on value, so you know what your hard earned dollar is getting in return. It’s the original Show me the money sign.
A few days later, on Friday, April 23rd, Motivating Mars moves into Cautious Cancer the Crab, a sign it’s definitely not comfortable in. Mars is a warrior, ready for battle. Cancer is gentle and soft. Wants to curl up under the covers, watch Netlix with a cuppa tea. So make sure are as forthcoming as possible rather than resorting to passive aggressive measures for which Mars in cancer is notorious.
The Full Moon in Scorpio on Monday, April 26th opposite four planets in practical Taurus: Sun, Mercury, Venus and Uranus. With five planets in the money signs Scorpio and Taurus, we are ALL about the money, power, resources, who has it, who doesn’t, who wants to get it, and who is keeping secrets. The full Moon in scorpio is especially notable as the next day Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, turns retrograde. KABOOM. Thus ends the 9 week run with all planets moving forward in direct motion.

Messenger Mercury twirls into its own sign of Gemini on Tuesday May 4th followed by Venus on May 9th, Mothers Day. We turn toward messaging as Gemini is versatile. Where there is a will, Gemini will find a way to make it happen. Just remember to allow equal time for both Gemini twins: talking AND listening; hearing AND speaking.
The New Moon in Taurus on Tuesday the 11th of May; sun and moon are loosely conjoined to Change Agent Uranus. Hand write your intentions and goals for the next month and season and plant them in the fertile May earth. Generous Jupiter rolls into Mystical Pisces on May 14th where he’ll stay until the end of July. Jupiter is the planet of Faith in the spiritual sign of Pisces. Here he unifies, unites and flows together.
On Friday, May 21st the Sun moves into Gemini joining Valuable Venus and Messenger Mercury as we find our ideas, thoughts and words witty and quick to the draw. The Gemini planets helpfully align with Taskmaster Saturn in Aquarius which turns retrograde on May 23rd.
The first eclipse of 2021 on Wednesday, may 26th. Full Moon Total Lunar eclipse in Gemini and Sagittarius: the Sun is in the air sign of Gemini opposite the Full Moon in adventurous Sagittarius. Both Sun and Moon challenge Jupiter in Pisces, pushing us to search for truth in the midst of thick spin, smoke and mirrors, and overthinking. Watch your words: that you say what you mean and mean what you say now.
The eclipse falls just days before Mercury turns retrograde in the sign of communication, Gemini where it will stay for 6.5 weeks until July 11th. Good thing Messenger Mercury will only be retrograde through June 22n, at the time of the summer solstice. Just remember to do the RE words for the next three weeks: Rest, Restore, relax, renew, Revisit, renovate, research.
JUNE:
June is a full of gear shifts. First: Valuable Venus turns into Cancer the Crab. Venus thrives in this maternal, nurturing and compassionate sign.
New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini on Thursday, June 10th. Conjoined to Messenger Mercury, this eclipse is about your thoughts, words and intentions. Watch for matters involving siblings, your car, neighbors or community surfacing. Mystical Neptune challenges Mercury during the eclipse requiring us to REALLY FOCUS and pay attention as the air is rife with disillusionment. Discern what is truth vs. spin.
Two days later, Motivating Mars rolls into Leo on June 12th. Your creativity soars for the next two months. The third week of June hosts cosmic gear shifts in quick succession. First, Generous Jupiter turns retrograde on Sunday, June 20th. We may experience some delayed gratification in our goals. The next day is the Summer Solstice on Monday, June 21st as the Sun moves into Cancer the Crab on the longest day of the year!
Messenger Mercury turns direct motion the next day, Tuesday, June 22nd. Proceed with large purchases such as cars, homes and appliances and signing major documents and contracts. Full Moon in practical Capricorn on Thursday, June 24th. The next day, the tides roll out as Dreamy Neptune turns retrograde has us reflecting on our deeper, soul purpose. Last, Valuable Venus changes signs to join Mars in Look at me Leo. For the next month, these two will be the spice of life by bringing a much needed sense of humor and fun to our world.
JULY!
The Peak Month of the Summer is notably calmer than June as there are fewer planetary shifts. That said, Motivating Mars joins the ongoing fray between Radical Uranus and Taskmaster Saturn for the first week of July resulting in deep frustrations. After the holiday weekend of July 4th, the tension eases up heading into the New Moon in Cancer the Crab on Friday, July 9th.
Feel the flow! Because we will be IN IT as Dreamy Neptune aligns with both Sun and Moon, our will and emotions. Beach and boating activities, any water born endeavor really, will be magical this second week of July. Venus joins Mars in Leo, moving him away from the very hard edge earlier in the month to Uranus and Saturn. The dynamic duo make for a joyful, festive and creative mid month while Messenger Mercury finally shifts out of Gemini on Monday, July 12th where it’s been since early May! Now in Cancer the Crab, our mind and words turn toward home, family and food.
Venus shifts into Virtuous Virgo, the same day that the Sun turns into Leo on Thursday, July 22nd. Pay particular attention to messages and what you are being shown now under the blazing light of the Full Moon in Aquarius the very next day, July 23rd. Messenger Mercury opposes Pluto and while we may not like what we are hearing or seeing, it is incredibly important to pay attention to what crosses our radar and not sweep it under the rug.
Messenger Mercury turns into playful Leo on July 28th followed two days later by Mars entering Virtuous Virgo. In between, Generous Jupiter reenters Aquarius where it will remain for the rest of 2021.
AUGUST
The Luckiest Day of the year 8/8 finds a New Moon in Leo on this most auspicious day, Sunday, August 8th. Watch for potential big announcements around this time as Messenger Mercury conjoins the Sun and Moon, in expressive Leo who loves to make a splash. Hand write your goals and intentions for the coming weeks and months and plant them in the ground.
Thursday, August 12th, Messenger Mercury shifts into its own sign of Virgo, sharpening our minds and words into precise, detailed language. Virgo rules health, work and service. As Mercury gradually joins Motivating Mars in Virgo and both align to Uranus in Taurus, our ingenuity streamlines our lives now. Plan and prepare for future days and focusing on healthy choices. The downside of Virgo is perfectionism: watch for anxiety, guilt, worry or controlling too much. Do what you can and let the rest go.
Monday, August 16th Valuable Venus moves into her own sign Lovely Libra. Here she seeks to bring balance to our world through grace and beauty. We will need her help as the trickiest day of the month and perhaps the year on August 20th when Radical Uranus turns retrograde until January 2022. This gear shift is never comfortable as Uranus rules shock and surprise. Expect the unexpected around this time especially as Uranus turns retrograde leading into the Full Moon on Sunday, August 22nd. The Moon conjoins Jupiter in Aquarius, ruler of Uranus. With both the Sun and moon in the final degrees of Leo and Aquarius, we could be in for a big awakening, or surprise. Again, I must emphasize this could be the trickiest period of all 2021.
The Sun turns into Virgo the very next day on August 23rd, joining Mars while Messenger Mercury moves into Lovely Libra a week later on August 30th, balancing out our thoughts and words.
SEPTEMBER:
Labor Day New Moon on Monday, September 6th in Virgo, the sign of work, labor, service and health. Both Sun and Moon loosely conjoin Motivating Mars, our energy and drive to get things done, as it exactly aligns to its elder sibling Powerful Pluto. This is one powerful New Moon for manifestation. Be sure to set your intentions and goals over the coming month and season.
Valuable Venus shifts into Scorpio on Friday, September 10th. Scorpio rules power, money, shared resources, joint finances and yes, secrets. Venus brings all of these in spades through the end of September. Her counterpart Mars turns into Libra on September 15th. Lovely Libra is not the most comfortable fit for Masculine Mars who prefers battle and conflict. For next two months, watch you aren’t picking fights but rather use this energy to build constructive relationships, including with yourself.
Taskmaster Saturn and Radical Uranus pull apart, separating for the greatest distance during September and October. Take advantage of this break by creating what you want to grow. The space they offer is part of the Full Moon on Monday, September 20th. This is a particularly tricky full moon as the Sun conjoins Mars opposing the Pisces Moon conjunct Neptune. Illusion and escapism are hard wired into this Full Moon so use the discerning Sun in analytical Virgo to your advantage rather than wanting to run away from everything or expecting life to be other than how it is which only results in disappointment.
We certainly will get a better handle on any situation when Mercury turns retrograde on Monday, September 27th, giving us the next three weeks to reflect, review, and revisit our lives, to take stock of who we are and how to proceed from here.
OCTOBER:
LOTS of changes this month! All three heavy hitters, Pluto, Jupiter and Saturn turn direct motion along with Messenger Mercury. Until they get going forward again, the opening week of October may feel very sluggish. You may find your energy is stagnant or you can’t make any headway on projects or goals.
The energy shifts as Powerful Pluto turns direct on Wednesday, October 6thth, the same day as the New Moon in Libra! The New Moon is conjoined to Motivating Mars and Messenger Mercury, meaning: maximum manifestation power! With 4 out ten planets in Libra, we feel centered; balancing our lives comes more easily. We have an artful and peaceful outlook. Handwrite your goals to grow over the coming months and plant them in the ground.
Valuable Venus rolls into adventurous Sagittarius on Thursday, October 7th, opening us up to learning and seeking answers near and far. On Monday, October 11, Taskmaster Saturn turns direct motion followed by its counterpart Generous Jupiter on the Monday, the 18th. It is especially noteworthy as Messenger Mercury turns direct the very same day as Jupiter. Expect a BIG announcement or to receive news around this time as we head into the Full Moon in Aries on Wednesday, October 20th.. The Aries Moon opposes the Sun joined to Mars in Libra so please take a breath, take a beat as needed and hit the pause button as this full Moon approaches from Sunday, October 17th through the 20th so tread lightly.
With four planets now forward motion again within the span of two weeks, we see more clearly and understand. Any projects, purchases or plans that you have been holding off on during Mercury retrograde, proceed as needed. Sign major documents or significant contracts.
A few days later, on Saturday, October 23rd, the Sun moves into Scorpio followed one week later by Mars on Halloween, Sunday, October 31st to get your spooky ON!
NOVEMBER
Several planetary gear shifts occur as November opens with the New Moon in Scorpio, on Thursday, November 4th. Both Sun and Moon directly oppose Radical Uranus in Taurus with Taskmaster Saturn challenging them. Meaning: no one wants to budge. You may feel dug in or feel the resistance of others. Use caution with this New Moon. The energy is combustible.
The seeds of this New Moon will be harvested two weeks later on the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in the money signs, Taurus and Scorpio. This November is not for the faint of heart. The day after the New Moon, Venus turns into Capricorn, pragmatic, cold and calculating, while Messenger Mercury shifts into Scorpio the next day, Saturday, November 6th. Valuable What Mercury turns over from its detective work digging underneath the surface, it hands over to Venus to manage.
The mid-month occurs Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on Friday, November 19th. Messenger Mercury and Motivating Mars join the Sun in Scorpio opposite the Taurus Moon shining a spotlight on any dirt or dreck swept under the rug over the past months or years. There is no hiding from anyone or anything now.
The Sun turns into Sagittarius on Monday, November 22nd, the fiery sign of education, spirituality and the law takes all that was turned up by the Lunar Eclipse and either teaches it a thing or two or prosecutes to the fullest extent possible. Especially after Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 25th when Messenger Mercury joins the Sun in Sagittarius to really tell it like it is.
DECEMBER:
On Saturday, December 4th the New Moon occurs as a total Solar Eclipse in truth telling Sagittarius. With both the Sun and Moon tightly conjoined to Messenger Mercury in honest, adventurous Sagittarius, we speak our minds, or, speak truth to power regardless of the consequences. Set clear intentions and goals for what you seek to manifest in the coming weeks and New Year just around the corner.
Motivating Mars joins the Sun in Sagittarius passing the baton to Messenger Mercury as it exits into practical Capricorn on Tuesday, December 14th. While Sun-Mars are focused on education, travel, truth and justice, Mercury ruler of our minds and mouths pursues real world application of all that book learning.
Mercury tips us off as Valuable Venus turns retrograde motion in the sign of Capricorn on Saturday, December 18th. For the next 40 days, Venus, planet of relationships has us reflect on pieces of ourselves we have disowned, what Carl Jung calls our shadow. In Capricorn, we look at the basic foundations of our life. Is it firm or flimsy? Do the bare bones and hard facts of our lives need reworking? Venus rules Values and in Capricorn, she wants a full accounting and taking stock at what we’re made of.
It is no accident that Venus turns retrograde just one day before the Full Moon on Sunday, December 19th. Under the spotlight of the Full Moon, we see exactly where we fall short in our relationships, including to our Self. Naked under the Full Moon in communicative Gemini opposite the truth telling Sagittarius Sun, we see our flaws as well as our perfections.
Use this Venus retrograde passage to reconnect with parts of yourself, what you may have forgotten about or pushed aside. Between December 18 and January 29th, 2022 review your financial situation; reconnect with old friends or relatives; embark on reflective retreats for deep psychological dives.
Invest the time and money to improve yourself as you will emerge from this period with greater self respect and clearer understanding of how to move forward. Just remember: BUY YOUR HOLIDAY GIFTS before December 18th this year! Purchases made after December 18th when Venus turns retrograde will be returned.
The Winter Solstice occurs on Wednesday, December 22nd. From here, the light only grows stronger and brighter.

I am so thrilled to bring you the very first episode of Mystical Messages! Thank you for joining me. It has been a long time in the making and planning stages and today is the BIG DAY to finally launch.
For our first episode, I would like to introduce myself and tell you how I came to be interested all things metaphysical and ultimately a practicing astrologer. Afterward, I will briefly cover the origins of astrology and then wrap up this episode with my astrology forecast for the next two weeks covering Christmas and New Years.
First, let me take this opportunity for you to know a bit about me and why I am so passionate about the metaphysical realm that I created a podcast about it! My introduction to this realm started very organically, with my grandmother teaching me about the astrology signs and their meaning. She sparked my interest but as I grew, there wasn’t a lot of support or avenues to direct me. While I tried avoiding my curiosity and sticking to mainstream subjects like writing and literature, I found myself repeatedly drawn to the astrology and metaphysical sections in bookstores. Yes, this was Pre Amazon.
My curiosity gradually turned into a passion, one that felt clandestine and naughty as my parents were not big fans of astrology and none of my friends shared my interest. Life rolled on and I found myself married with two children. It was the mid 1990s. It was after my second and youngest daughter was born, astrology kept creeping into my life. Safe to say, astrology chooses you, you do not choose it. This is true of nearly all the intuitive practitioners I know and work with, that their field of expertise unfolds right in front of them, drawing them into their particular circle of wisdom and passion.
In my case, I had a push me-pull me relationship with astrology. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the subject matter and craved learning more. But what I didn’t like was the perceived stigma, that everyone thought my astrological interests were a little weird. So I kept pushing my passion away, holding it bay. Until, I got sick. Yes, sometimes life has to hit you over the head with a sledgehammer to drive the message home.
I had recurring, often overlapping sinus infections. How appropriate you might say: a blockage of my third eye chakra. The infections went on for over a year until finally I sought more than just relief with antibiotics. I decided to go under the knife and have sinus surgery. WRONG! I definitely took the wrong fork in the road. The ENT surgeon nearly botched the surgery and suffice it to say, I was hardly cured of the sinus infections.
As a confirmed proponent of allopathic medicine, I wavered; yet still suffering from raging sinus infections, I grasped for solutions to my pain. Finally as a last resort, I turned to acupuncture. Lo and behold, at my first appointment, on the book shelf of my acupuncturist, I spotted Isabel Hickey’s classic work: Astrology, A Cosmic Science. I eyed the book tentatively as the acupuncturist went to work and hitting one meridian point after another until when, at the very end of the session, she hit a point called Soul Door, a point that blew me wide open; not physically but energetically. There was no turning back. I borrowed her copy of Isabel Hickey’s book and promptly devoured it. Bells and whistles blew loud and clear, clanging: you are now on the right path. Keep going! I began buying every astrology book I could get my hands on. I enrolled in classes and started studying with veteran astrology teachers in Boston where I am blessed to live among a cornucopia of talent. Two years into it, after hand drawing my own astrological charts, I uploaded software to my computer and began reading for clients in 2001. Twenty-odd years later, I have a global clientele and ever growing practice.
Gradually, I didn’t care what other people thought of my passion. Astrology became an integral part of me, who I am, my identity. I came out of the astrological closet so to speak. If other people had an issue with my practice, that was their problem, not mine. And as I came to learn, most healers I know first awaken to their talent in a similar way to my own journey: by getting sick and stumbling around for solutions. In their search, as with mine, they are led to their own healing. However, without a community or a supportive tribe ready at hand to connect with others as they walk on their newfound spiritual healing path, can be a long, isolating and lonely road.
These days, it is infinitely easier to find like-minded people due to our cyber connectivity. Still, I know there are many budding lightworkers, who due to their upbringing with certain family, religious or community beliefs, find it difficult to access resources and guidance to foster their talents. Knowing the lack of immediate support via community sparked a driving force within me to create this podcast and offer a broader format for those who are just beginning their intuitive journey and seek support, guidance and direction.
So you might ask, what is it about astrology specifically that spoke to me? Even as a child, growing up in a very mainstream Protestant household, I felt astrology connected the dots of life. It offered a larger perspective about “why” and “how”, two of my favorite questions then and still. 1969 was the first lunar landing. I was 5 years old at the time. The Apollo landing made quite an impression on me. The moon seemed ever more accessible. I realized the stars held the answers if only we asked why and how come?
Turns out, I was far from the first to seek answers from the stars above. In my thirties as I began studying astrology, I learned from Master teachers how this ancient subject started in the first place. Which brings me to my next talking point: the origins of astrology. How did it all begin?
Not unlike my own journey, man sought to make sense of his world by gazing at the night sky. Astrology is the science of studying planetary movement and the interpretive art of how these movements influence man. It is a celestial art and science that dates back to Babylonia, roughly 2000 years before Christianity, when the first records kept of cosmic and planetary movement were written. Life was agrarian; farmers and shepherds tracked and noted the correlation between the stars and their way of life. Such as the moon that disappeared and reappeared every month, and less often a bright star they called Ishtar, Isis and later Venus that became visible in the morning and then in the evening.
Planetary movement influenced the natural world integral then to man; deeply bound to nature, fisherman noted how ocean tides are connected to lunar cycles, and told farmers when to plant and when to harvest crops. Even now, increasingly removed from the natural world, man still largely lives his life by the rising and setting of sun. By the time of Christ’s birth, the Wise Men who arrived from the East, or Babylonia, are considered astrologers as they followed the Star guiding them to Bethlehem.
With the rise of Christianity, came the dark or middle ages. As the growing church sought greater control, astrology, which putsthe power and wisdom in the hands of the individual, gradually became heretical, a dark art or occult. As a sidebar, occult simply means knowledge that is hidden, not the dirty or sinister connotation it frequently has. The burning of the Great Library of Alexandria in the 4th century AD certainly helped the decline of astrological knowledge. With the fire, ancient collections of all variety of metaphysical texts went up in smoke. As a result, along with other healing arts, astrology went underground during the middle ages. Fortunately, the study and practice were kept alive in the East, in the Arabic countries from whence the Wise Men came.
Today, astrology is enjoying an immense resurgence of popularity thanks to technology and phone apps and avid interest from millennials seeking to understand the why and how, the existential questions to life not always answered by mainstream organized religion, modern philosophy and psychology. Much like when I first began studying in earnest 25 years ago, new generations seek to know how and why each and every planet in our galaxy influences our lives, particularly in the western hemisphere. Eternal questions still pervade: why am I here, is there more to life than birth, work and death, what is my purpose, how can I be of service?

Now, let’s turn to our astrology forecast for the next two weeks to find out what’s up for the final days of the year that has become the notorious 2020.
December is always a time for truth telling. Ordinarily, this is because the Sun cycles through Sagittarius for most of the month along with one or more of the interior planets such as Messenger Mercury or Valuable Venus. Sagittarius speaks honestly, sometimes with a blunt edge of truth. This December 2020, the emphasis on Truth is exponentially raised due to two signs Sagittarius along with the usual players, the Sun, Mercury and Venus.
The day after the second eclipse on Monday, December 14th, a new moon solar eclipse marking definitive beginnings, Venus shifts into Sagittarius ensuring that truth and the law, justice, prevail, especially in our relationships. We are more concerned with the honesty of our values, in life, ourselves and others. We focus now on what gives meaning, purpose and relevancy to how we earn a living. Are you pursuing work that fulfills you as well as generating income? Is it work you are proud of or passionate about? Sagittarius Venus, Mercury and Sun seek to learn and pursue adventures that stretch us personally in body, mind and spirit.
On Thursday, December 17th, Taskmaster Saturn enters Aquarius and paves the way for Generous Jupiter to join two days later on Saturday, December 19th. The significance of this shift cannot be overstated. This great cosmic shift marks a quantum leap for mankind. It truly is a remarkable time to be alive. The titans unite every 20 years. The last time was 2000, in Taurus. Now in 2020, this pair have united at the end of Capricorn and the beginning of Aquarius, two remarkably different signs. Capricorn is the old; Aquarius is the new. The mission of their alliance in these two signs and at these notable degrees sends an unmistakable message: out with the old, in with the new.
Capricorn, where Saturn and Jupiter joined forces for much of 2020, stamped a seal on established customs, traditions and ways of life that have had their say and seen better days. The Old Era is now done, done, done, over and gone with a clear, certain finality. Let me be super clear: an immense gate is closing to any old, outdated conditioning and programming, systems that have served their purpose but no longer have any meaning or relevance going forward. In quick succession, as the gate to the old is firmly closed and the door to a brand new, shimmering avenue is opened. We are crossing into a future of infinite opportunity if we stay open-minded. Over the next few weeks, it is an excellent use of your time and energy to wind up and close out any habits, relationships, lifestyles, or work that hold you back from being 100 percent pure unadulterated you.
A revolutionary threshold is upon us: Will you cross over?
Within two days, titans Jupiter and Saturn move from dense and deadly serious Capricorn, to light, inventive Aquarius; taking us with them, we shift from the heaviest earth energy to a light, frothy frequency. All new, all the time is on the agenda for the next 12 months. The Titans usher us into a brand new age: inventive, connected, avant-garde, non-mainstream, highly individualized marching to its own drummer yet operating within a team, marked by networking and technology, and radical, rebellious, and revolutionary. Aquarius pushes boundaries and tweaks us out of our comfort zones; gets off on exchanging information and ideas, from the simplest concept to solving steep problems to reaching for the most extreme, far-fetched possibilities.
By December 20th, we are now firmly in the Age of Aquarius. There is nothing too wild we can imagine. Consider, after all, one hundred years ago electricity (ruled by Uranus and Aquarius) had just been “discovered”. Imagine how we will live 100 years from now? The Aquarian mind says there is no limit. Over2021 and in years to come, there is no space or place for lack of authenticity. Regardless of what anyone else thinks, says or does, you must be uniquely you. Everyone else is taken. So get out of your own way and hop into your imagination.
As Einstein said, “the imagination is the gift, the mind is the servant. Man has made the mind the master and the gift a slave.”
No more.
We will now live the inverse of this tenet where imagination rules. Jupiter-Saturn demand we rise to meet life in brand new ways throughout 2021. The doorway to our new life is highlighted and emphasized by the Winter Solstice on Monday, December 21st, when both Sun and Messenger Mercury enter practical Capricorn. Greeting us at the threshold of the next season, Sun-Mercury steer us to apply our fired-up ideas and inventive notions in a realistic, useful way. This pragmatic duo asks us to consider: You may have all the creativity in the universe but if it isn’t useful to your neighbor, what good is it?.
The best place to start solving problems and answering questions is right in our own backyard, in our own home, family and community. We see the importance of this under the growing light of the waxing moon, climaxing to Full in its own sign of Cancer the Crab on December 29th. Doing your own thing is great and all, says the Cancer Moon; but first, let’s connect to our own beings and our loved ones; then gradually extend care and compassion outward like great ripples, embracing each other as one, unified whole.
