In this episode, Heather and I dive into a candid conversation about how performance and perfectionism, often rooted in trauma, shaped our lives and careers. While these traits brought us significant success, they also created unhealthy patterns that we had to confront.
Heather, a Certified Master Coach for Kingdom entrepreneurs, shares her insights on how to serve others through your gifts and passions while making a lot of money doing it. We also explore the idea that money isn't inherently evil—it simply magnifies what's in your heart, and if you've got a heart for Jesus, it can be a powerful tool for good.

Hustle Culture is a buzzword that's turned into a lifestyle for a lot of people. I had an insightful chat with Ann Eileen, and she really gets this topic because it's something she’s experienced firsthand. While hustling can sometimes seem like the only way to succeed, it's important to remember that it has its downsides. Statistics show that 83% of workers in the U.S. suffer from work-related stress, and 25% of them say their job is the primary stressor in their lives. Additionally, those who work more than 55 hours a week have a 33% higher risk of stroke and a 13% higher risk of heart disease compared to those working standard hours. So, while the grind might seem necessary, it's crucial to consider the toll it takes on our health and well-being.
Join us as we learn more about Ann Eileens story..
After graduating from The Ohio State University in 1993 with a degree in Journalism, I started my career in retail sales, working as a sales manager in what is now Macy’s. It was a job I took hoping to learn in real time, why people buy what they buy.
A well trained journalist, I wanted to learn their stories.
I learned how to sell and how to manage people, and what shoes were best for long hours on my feet. Alas, retail is a bit of a grind. Don’t get me wrong, I did hear some stories, but I wanted more.
So, in 1995, after one too many nights, weekends, and holiday return seasons in Retail, I wrote up a resume, worked my limited network, and landed a job at Procter & Gamble in the Market Insights organization.
It was during my 12 years at P&G that I learned about understanding consumer beliefs and behavior, marketing, product development, and innovation. I learned how to manage up and down and across massive, complex corporate hierarchies. I touched nearly every business unit and region as I moved up and across the organization, from Fabric & Home Care, to Hair Care, Corporate Design, and Global Volume Forecasting and Market Mix Modeling - a discipline we re-named as “Integrated Business Optimization” during my tenure.
But, more important than any product or team I worked on while at P&G, I learned how to lead with my faith; I fell in love with Jesus and His steady, constant presence, even in the details of my work; and I learned that, driven by my faith, I’m a risk taker and an entrepreneur.
Then, in 2007, I heard the Lord was calling me to step off the ladder and into something new.
I joined a small, but quickly growing, forward-thinking company providing market research and innovation services to companies like Procter. I learned how to create and sell meaningful projects that would enable clients to learn and grow their businesses. I learned how to develop and nurture relationships with clients who had roles like the ones I’d held at P&G. I learned the ins and outs of running a small business.
And then I got fired.
Financial strain, and a mismatch between me and the future direction of the business fast tracked my move to the next adventure.
A blessing in disguise.
Energized rather than discouraged, I seized the opportunity of a small severance package that bought me just enough time to try something new.
Along with a business partner, I co founded The Garage Group in 2011. Inspired by small-company, entrepreneurial spirit and practice, TGG works with large companies to enable them to solve big challenges with innovative new approaches, borrowed and adapted from the world of startups. TGG grew rapidly and my role ebbed and flowed as the business required - from sales, to project design and delivery, to client relationship development, to content and capability creation, to industry leadership, staff development, creating and shepherding culture, finances, and every other aspect of running a small business.
I learned a lot from our successes, but even more from our mistakes.
In 2019, just before the COVID pandemic hit, my co founder and I stepped into new roles while we brought in a new CEO to take us to the next level. Within a year, I’d worked myself out of my role, as we sold the business to the next generation of folks from our team.
I moved into what I thought would be a short sabbatical.
That sabbatical turned into almost two years of rest and reassessment. Lots of writing and dreaming and napping and quieting myself and my own dreams long enough to hear the Lord wooing me into something new.
Launching into this new season of coaching, consulting, community building, writing, podcast hosting, and speaking is a whole new adventure. Walking even more closely with the Lord, I’m ready and willing to go where He leads.
I live in my hometown of Cincinnati, OH with my husband Rich and our people-loving Bernese Mountain Dog, Faith. We’re enjoying the empty nest and the beautiful stage of parenting young adult children. Our latest side hustle venture is short term rental properties, which have proven to be a great creative outlet, and have given us a beautiful way to welcome folks to our fine city. We love to travel, read, and fan flames of revival in Cincinnati through prayer, worship, and fellowship with others.

I had an amazing conversation with Heather on this episode. In February, we had the privilege of speaking to a group of women about finding their identity in Christ. It was a wonderful experience, and I wanted to bring Heather on the podcast to delve deeper into her testimony. She shared her struggle with an eating disorder and how God transformed her life.
Heather and her husband Vince Murdock founded Rise and Rejoice Ministries. Their mission is to raise up a generation of devoted disciples and disciple-makers of Christ through Kingdom discipleship, Spirit-filled worship, and compassionate outreach. They help people heal and overcome obstacles through the power of the Gospel, equipping and empowering believers to discover and live out their Kingdom identity and purpose.
This conversation was truly inspiring. Heather's passion for helping women see their lives transformed is incredibly motivating.

At the time, it was tough to comprehend, and honestly, it left us feeling confused and maybe a bit disheartened. But, as we revisit that season today, we want to share how God's nos can lead to something beautiful and how His plan, even when it seems unclear, is always perfect.

We had the honor of interviewing Shellie Kennedy in a two part series about sex and the church. We get very honest about her story and how God redeemed it.
Shellie Kennedy is a life-long Christ follower. She has served in church ministry the majority of her adult life from young marrieds, to missions, to women's ministry, to now single women’s ministry after a tumultuous end to her 14 year marriage. Her forte is reaching the darkest, most hidden, and the least likely places to find Christians. Like serving in a strip club ministry for 6 years where they held church with girls inside of the club dressing rooms. She also serves with Samaritan’s Purse, Franklin Graham’s organization that extends hands-and-feet aid to the hurting after natural disasters. For Shellie knows, the darker the room, the brighter Jesus shines.
With a heart for people she goes after anything standing in the way of healing. Even if it is the church and has taken a stand with other church leaders to shift the culture and divide between the pews and the pulpit. Walking free from past bondage herself, she knows the difference in the scriptures declaring you’re free and FEELING free. She will commit her days to helping people find that for themselves.

We had an opportunity to interview the very talented Deb DeArmond she is an author, a speaker, and relationship coach—helping others improve their interactions at work and at home. Her first book, Related by Chance, Family by Choice: *Transforming Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law Relationships* from Kregel Publications.
Family dynamics are Deb’s passion, and her writing explores marriage, grandparenting, in-law and extended family relationships. Abingdon Press released I Choose You Today: 31 Choices to Make Love Last and her book about marital conflict, Don’t Go to Bed Angry. Stay Up and Fight! written with her husband, Ron.
Bumper Sticker Be-Attitudes is a humor-tinged devotional for the busy believer seeking deep truths with a chuckle on the side. Each chapter bears the title of an actual bumper sticker say collected by the author over several years.
Deb takes a different approach in the upcoming book, We May Be Done, But We’re Not Finished: Making the Rest of Your Life, the Best of Your Life. The book is a compilation with 22 authors sharing their amazing stories in living life fully after age 50. It touches on both the magic and the sometimes tragic – but God is the hero in each woman’s story.
Her work has been featured in several publications including Focus on the Family, Today’s Christian Woman, and her monthly column in Lifeway Magazine Mature Living.
Deb is wife to her high school sweetheart who showed her the path to become a Christ follower 42 years ago. Mom to three incredible sons and daughters-in-law. Gigi to seven perfect grandboys and (finally) a granddaughter. But Jesus is her favorite, and the others have learned to live with it.

This week we had the opportunity to interview Susan Neal, an RN, health coach, and Christian who wants to show you how to reclaim your health and ideal weight by giving you knowledge about unhealthy foods, solutions for resolving negative eating habits, and methods to incorporate God into your new healthy lifestyle.
When I was fifty I lost my health. I had no idea how precious it was until it was gone. I laid in bed, utterly exhausted, unable to function normally. It all began when an abscessed tooth poisoned my body. Over the next year, I developed ten medical diagnoses, endured two surgeries, and gained an unhealthy amount of weight. The doctors did all they could, but I still was not well.
As a registered nurse with a master’s degree in health science, I used my medical knowledge and the Bible to recover my health and weight. Taking a biblical approach to master my palate, I eliminated the foods I knew I should not eat. I want to share what I discovered, so you can achieve the extraordinary life God wants you to experience.
So I created the following “Healthy Living Series” of books:
• 7 Steps to Get Off Sugar and Carbohydrates (Selah Award Winner)
• Christian Study Guide for 7 Steps to Get Off Sugar and Carbohydrates (Best Bible Study Winner)
• Healthy Living Bullet Journal (Best Inspirational Gift Book Winner)
• Healthy Living Series: 3 Books in 1
Solving the Gluten Puzzle
I also developed a course, 7 Steps to Reclaim Your Health and Optimal Weight, to teach others what might be the root cause of their negative eating habits and how to resolve it.

Emotional Intelligence is something that we have been learning about and we wanted to share how understanding this can help you navigate through life circumstances.
Jeff has been a pastor his entire adult life; with students, a non-profit, campus lead pastor for a multi site church, and now as a life coach and pastoral counselor.
In 2012 he enrolled in a leadership program with Christian psychologist Dr. John Townsend where he began to learn the importance of emotional intelligence. The experience saved his life and marriage. It was so transformative that he became a director in the Townsend Leadership Program. Later, he and wife, Lisa, formed Myers Life and Leadership to bring freedom and emotional wholeness to individuals, couples and the Church. They are currently working on the inside sales team at Redfin Real Estate while building the coaching ministry and creating a small retreat home on California’s central coast where they will begin hosting pastors and leaders in 2021. Jeff and Lisa have been married for 26 years and live with their four kids, ages 10-22, in Southern California. You can reach him at Jeff@myerslifeandleadership.com and on Instagram @myerslifeandleadership.

Debbie Boyd, by her own account was living a happy married and blessed life as an accomplished Supply Chain Sourcing Director for a major Silicon Valley technology company and Mother to two beautiful daughters. In October 2005, Debbie’s life dramatically changed when her 27 year old daughter Christie disappeared without a trace from a casino in Placer County CA. In 2006 the man that abducted Christie was convicted of her murder and sentenced to 59 years to life in prison, but refused to disclose where he hid Christie’s body. After nearly “15” difficult years, on August 20, 2020, Debbie received the news that her beloved daughter Christie’s remains had finally been recovered; they were found buried at the killer’s former home in Auburn, CA.
Throughout this difficult journey, Debbie has remained steadfast in her Faith and never lost hope of finding her daughter. Debbie has turned the grief, anguish and torture inflicted upon her and her family into action and goodness, by serving others through victim advocacy, teaching, and awareness.
Debbie shares her story of loss and victory in this episode and we know that you will find her story very inspirational.

This month is Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness and we wanted to honor this month so we invited Linda to share her beautiful story of how she is impacting may families with her ministry He Knows my Name.
Linda’s impact in Indiana and beyond has included providing funerals and headstones for babies and children. These gifts are given to babies who are abandoned and to serve under resourced families. Linda has claimed 28 babies in several states and has dedicated over 120 headstones in 8 states. Linda has advocated for the Safe Haven Baby Box, which became a law in July 2018. The SHBB allows a baby to be safely surrendered anonymously without fear of arrest or prosecution.
Currently, Linda is focusing on raising awareness for Cuddle Cots, a cooling device used in hospitals, which gives the “gift of time” to mourning parents. With community involvement, He Knows Your Name has sponsored over 30 Cuddle Cots in 5 states hospitals, most in Indiana, making Indiana number one in the country. This has benefited bereaving families when they experience Infant & Pregnancy Loss.
Nationally, Linda appeared on The Steve Harvey Show, was a guest on ‘In the Market ‘ with Janet Parshall, The Harvest Show, and was a guest author on Ann Voskamp’s blog. Her story has been featured on dozens of radio shows and print publications. Linda has received the Jefferson Award from ABC, the McMiracle Award from The McDonald’s Foundation, United Way's 100 Heroes and the Fox News Community Hero of the Month Award.
