A conversation with Mel Moseley, a theatre artist, musician, writer, storyteller, teacher, and truth teller based in Portland.  Her performance work explores themes of sexuality and relationships using music and storytelling.

We discuss the powerful impact of sharing our personal truths publicly, the outdoors as a place for creativity, having the privilege and financial ability to pursue creative endeavors, how to get out of a creative funk, seeing yourself through the eyes of collaborators, the Bauhaus movement, and the importance of having multiple perspectives.

A conversation with Bryan Northup, an environmental artist who creates sculptures and reliefs using single-use plastics and foam. These sculptures, which often look like food such as sushi-like rolls, highlight how our consumption relates to the environment.

We discuss Bryan’s process of making art from plastics as a method of paying attention to the environment, experimenting with discovery and wonder, how time limits can promote productivity, making as self care, and how being an artist is being a faucet for creativity.

I think you will enjoy this episode. And I promise that you will not look at your plastic bags, styrofoam meat trays, or empty pill bottles the same way since.

I share with you, broadly, the challenges of turning your art into a business - at least the ones I have encountered these last few years.

I share what it means to have a calling that you also hope will turn a profit, starting a business from financial stability, finding self and doing personal development as a means forward in your business, trying many pathways and knowing when to pivot (I always jump ship too soon), and factoring time into your business decisions.

Part two (coming in two weeks) will delve into some concrete pathways for making money as an artist.

I share strategies from my workbook for troubleshooting when things don’t go to plan and how to process your completed - or abandoned - project. The workbook, Practicing Creativity, helps creatives manifest their heart’s desire and make the thing that they have been aching to make!

If you haven’t already, I recommend going back to listen to the episode featuring Part One, the episode feature Parts Two, Three, and Four, and the episode featuring Parts Five and Six.

Already listened to Parts One through Six?  Then grab your notebook and a pen. There are some discernment questions that you might want to write down.

A conversation with Sarah Johnson, an artist living with ADHD. In it we discuss the challenges that ADHD presents to everyday life and how that impacts being an artist. Sarah presents excellent strategies and tools for coping with some of the challenges associated with ADHD. She covers everything from emotional regulation, executive functioning, self-care, self-forgiveness, and how planning can aid in time blindness. This conversation was truly a gift for me to better understand the life of those living with ADHD. I am so grateful to Sarah for being so candid about her experiences and lessons learned. This episode is perfect for those with ADHD or for those who have loved ones, coworkers, and friends with ADHD.

Advisory Note: Sarah is not a doctor or a professional healthcare care worker, she is offering tips from her own life and her own experiences.

This episode is truly wonderful and rich in information and insight (see resources below). You are going to love it!

This episode is about prioritizing your creative heart’s desire and weighs the risk of misplacing our creativity.

In order to develop and locate your creative life, you must find your creative heart’s desire. This means giving yourself time and permission to playfully examine what you are really curious about - what really excites you - what makes your heart say “Yes! Yes! Do that! Make that!"
