Haggai 1:1-15

Context - The primary theme of Haggai the rebuilding of God’s temple, which had been lying in ruins since its destruction by Nebuchadnezzar in 586 b.c. By means of 5 messages from the Lord, Haggai exhorted the people to renew their efforts to build the house of the Lord.

Main point - Neglecting God will always lead to a drought of the soul.

As you combat Spiritual Apathy...

1) Consider your ways. (1-7) A. The people of Haggai’s day had built up their homes, sown their fields, and pursued prosperity - all at the expense of neglect of God’s temple.

B. Prosperity cannot be enjoyed when God is ignored. (vs. 6)

2) Confront idolatrous business (8-11) A. The people had busied themselves with their own interests and became indifferent to God’s concerns. (vs 9)

B. Disobedience to God will always result in drought.

3) Complete what God has commanded (12-15) A. The people got busy and worked on the house of God - immediately experiencing the presence of God.

B. Obedience will always enjoy the presence and blessing of God.
