UZinhle wayekuthanda ukweqa ingqathu nabangani bakhe oSindi noZongi. Kunento eyodwa nje eyayimkhathaza. Lapho abangani bakhe beqa ingqathu, izinwele zabo zazinyakaza. UZinhle wayenezinwele ezithambile, zazinganyakazi.

UZinhle wabuza unina, “Mama, kungani izinwele zami zinganyakazi njengezinwele zabangani bami? Izinwele zabo ziyandiza. Zibonakala zizinhle! Izinwele zami zihlala zithule nje!”

“Izinwele zakho nazo zinhle nje!” kwasho uMama. Izinwele zakho ziwumlingo!”

UZinhle wajabula. Wagijima eyotshela abangani bakhe. Kodwa bavele bahleka.

“Umlingo? Lutho!”

Amehlo kaZinhle agcwala izinyembezi.

Amantombazane abona uGogo ewaqhweba.

“Bhekani, uGogo uyasibiza,” kwasho uZinhle.

Izingane ezintathu zazithanda ukusiza uGogo. Ngakho uZinhle, uZongi noSindi baphuthuma baya kuGogo.

“Angiphilile kahle namuhla,” kwasho uGogo. “Ngicela umuthi.”

Izingane zavuma ukuthi zihambe ziyomtholela umuthi.

“Ngizonidwebela ibalazwe” kwasho uGogo. Kodwa akazange athole phepha.

“Kuzomele ngenze elinye isu,” kwasho yena. Wayesebheka amantombazane.

“Zinhle, unezinwele ezinhle kakhulu. Ngizokweluka imiqhino ukuze ngenze ibalazwe ezinweleni zakho.”

“Hawu! Umama wakho uqinisile,” kwasho uSindi. “Izinwele zakho IMPELA ziwumlingo!”

UZinhle wamoyizela ngenjabulo.

Ngesikhathi behamba, uZongi noSindi babelokhu bema bebheka izinwele zikaZinhle. Ngenkathi behamba, babecula ingoma:

“UGog’ akaphilile kahle,

UGog’ akaphilile kahle. Siya kwaNtuli, siyoland’ umuthi – umuthi okuphilisa uGogo!”

Ekugcineni izingane zafika kwaNtuli. Endleleni ebuyela ekhaya, amantombazane asebenzisa ibalazwe elisekhanda likaZinhle. Athi uma esefika ephephile emzini kaGogo, amnikeza umuthi.

Ngakusasa ekuseni, uZinhle, uZongi kanye noSindi bahamba baya emzini kaGogo.

“Sanibonani, zingane zami,” kwasho uGogo emoyizela. “Ngizizwa ngingcono kakhulu namuhla!”

Amantombazane ajabula ukuzwa ukuthi ayemsizile uGogo.

“Gogo, ngingacela yini ukuba ungeluke izinwele zami?” kucela uSindi.

“Nezami futhi, ngiyacela!” kwasho uZongi.

“Nakanjani,” kwasho uGogo. “Ngenani ngaphakathi.”

Esikoleni ngakusasa ekuseni, abangani abathathu batshela ikilasi labo ngezitayela zabo zezinwele. Ezinye izingane zicela ukubona imiqhino eyayenza ibalazwe. “Kungumlingo ngempela,” kwasho othile, bonke abanye bavuma.
