Sight On Screen: Recent Episodes

Back again for a Sci-fi Spectacular with Denis Villeneuve's DUNE. Will the beloved director be able to capture the essence of this beloved book? Will anything ever outstrip the majesty of Sting in a racing car banana hammock? Richard and Abdul do their best to find out after yet another long hiatus.
Flying back into action on a reverse rigged bungie cord the boys bring the heat on to the long anticipated, much hyped and highly contagious Tenet. Will almost three hours of earth toned mumbles live up to all the expectations or will someone shoot a flute player in the first five minutes. Wiggle your fingers in odd motions and reverse a bullet through your physics books, its gonna be a wild ride.
After yet another unexpected break due to surgical interference, the boys are back with a long anticipated discussion of Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood'. Perhaps the closest cinema will ever come to replicating the Sight On Screen experience, complete with movie talk, bromance and so so many tangents.
And thus do the boys round out their trilogy of Carpenter Ft. Russel with the one, the only, The Thing. Perhaps the poster child for the cult classic, this post-modernist horror masterpiece is worth some SOS TLC. Will the boys manage to stay on topic or will this also be known as the Tangent Trilogy. We don't know, we're ordering T-shirts, but we just don't know.
Continuing their impromptu Kurt Russel/ John Carpenter retrospective, the boys decide to gear up and get in their Gullfire to Escape from New York. While Richard and Abdul try and decide if this film is a masterclass in scene dressing or if they just managed to empty part of New Jersey for filming, they also make a solid attempt of building their own bridge across the Hudson using only tangents.
Back in Studio and back on air, the boys use their new found freedom to endlessly get off topic when discussing a cult fan favorite. Not even the mighty Kurt Russel can cease the tangents as Richard and Abdul shake the pillars of the earth, master the burning blade and if their not discussing the movie by minute 15, call the president.
On what turns out to be another treat-yo-self week here on Sight On Screen the boys finally get around to talking about last years most unexpected Oscar sweeper. Will the fan boy'ing ever stop? Will Richard stop salivating over the cinematography? Will Abdul stop raving about the acting? Spoiler Alert: No. No they will not.

In the corona induced release drought, the boys instead decide to look at the filmography of one of their joint favorite directors Christopher Nolan. With nary a tangent aside and with a strictly professional discussion about Tom Hardy's Bane voice, Abdul and Richard enjoy getting their brain game on and trying to decide if that top stopped spinning.

This week the boys decide to cast their eyes back at the now past decade of the 2010's with a best and worst of list with it's own unique Sight On Screen plot twist. Who gets the carrot and who gets the stick?
With 'Wonder Woman 1984' set to be a neon colored piece of fantastical escapism, Richard and Abdul decided to bring everyone back down to earth and wallow under the oppressive gaze of Big Brother with the film adaption of one of their shared favorite books. Will they think it's a dose of double-good or will it be deemed traitorous the party?
With all major releases now being quarantined it was left to Richard and Abdul to both find something appropriate to these trying times and lift their spirits. Thus the boys this week sat down to talk about Richard's pick, the underappreciated bundle of flesh eating joy that is 'The Don't Die' from show favorite Jim Jarmusch. Will Abdul tune into the madness and has he realised the theme song is by Sturgill Simpson?
In expectation of this summers Black Widow, and because neither of the guys wanted to talk about Marvel movies, Richard and Abdul discuss the 'interesting' live action anime adaption where Scarlett Johansson plays a small Japanese girl... well kinda... they think.
With Jordan Peele's new film Antebellum hotly anticipated by the boys, it was time for Richard to introduce Abdul to Peele's second feature 'Us'. This a film where nobody wants to get out.

So before it got delayed due to Corona, Richard and Abdul were both looking forward to Disney's new Mulan (well kinda). So in preparation they tracked down Mulan: Rise of the Warrior which was the Chinese war epic covering the Mulan legend, but with way less Eddie Murphy.
Richard and Abdul in prep for this summers Top Gun 2 take the plunge and try to survive the surreal nightmare that is Tom Cruise in a fantasy film from 1985 directed by the man behind Alien Ridley Scott. How could such a combination go so wrong.
In their first episode, Richard and Abdul in preparation for the newest Bond flick take us to where it all kind of began and discuss Mathew Vaughn's fantastic feature film Layer Cake starring Daniel Craig.
