"Come, for everything is now ready!" That is the main theme of Jesus' parable of the great wedding banquet in Luke 16. Here, David Bryant explores what our Savior was really trying to tell us through the story -- and how this one, single sentence defines the overriding reality for our walk with Jesus Christ each day, and for eternity.

Encountering the fire of God at Mt. Sinai was the critical high point of Israel's transition from bondage to the land of promise. Taking that insight, David Bryant reaches back 33 years to when NPPC's mission statement was about fire, namely: "to become a center FOR renewal". He shows us how today, like at Mt. Sinai, the fire of the Holy Spirit causes Christians to be on fire WITH Christ and then on fire FOR Christ. In turn, David suggests, this fire could transition NPPC towards becoming, once again, a center of and for renewal that impacts Christ's reviving work everywhere. The implications in this vision for our individual walks with Jesus are incalculable.

God is doing a new thing, always. "We didn't start the fire, it was always burning since the world's been turning." (Billy Joel) The lyrics were meant to show that times change, and each era has its own issues....opportunities.
The Hebrew word for "Counselor" is one that uses a legal term as someone who represents us before a judge. How did that apply then, and how does it apply to us?
The Messiah came to show that He is Mighty God in the most unlikely of ways. Servant King, Wounded Healer, being indeed--Mighty God who rejoices in us and is our joy.
Isaiah 9:6 is where the titles for this sermon series come. Isaiah is offering hope to a war weary nation by prophesying about the coming Messiah. Jesus lived peace and offered it to us.
In this message, we learn seven ways Jehovah in the Old Testament became the banner or flag for Israel. Then we explore how those same seven ways are powerfully fulfilled in Jesus and filled full of Jesus--to such an extent that Jesus has now become the ultimate flag over our lives everyday.
Jehovah Sabaoth, the God of Angel Armies goes before us making mountains low and valleys raised. There is nothing impossible for the Lord of Hosts as He leads us on the path of His perfect and good will.
The witness of scripture is clear, what God ordains...God will provide for. How will our lives change when we fully rely on God for all of our provisions.
Last week, we learned that Jesus is the Lord of Righteousness. This week we learn that God calls Himself, Jehovah Rapha, I AM Healing and Wholeness. In other words, God is healing and wholeness. Only the LORD can fill that hole in our hearts. Only God can heal anger, hurt, unforgiveness, and so on. And, Jesus does more than heal the woman with the issue of blood. He restores her life.
This week we are diving into Jehovah Tsidkenu—Yahweh is our Righteousness. Join us as we learn what it means to be in right standing with God and how we respond this amazing gift of grace through King Jesus.
Our God is "Shalom" a peace that passes understanding, a peace like we experience when we are home. Shalom has been used as a greeting by God's people for ages. But it is more than a concept, or feeling, it is truly only found in Christ Jesus when we are in Him. As we come into the knowledge of Christ, it is as if he says... "Welcome Home"
YHWY is the name of God. It is translated many ways. Jehovah is one of the ways. Jesus Christ came as Living Torah. He embodied Torah, and in His life, he lived out the Jehovah names of God....such as Jehovah Raah, the Lord is our Shepherd.
In the Book of Acts, Luke says the story he told, ending with the ascension of Jesus into heaven, was the BEGINNING of the teaching ministry of Jesus. It was the BEGINNING of the deeds of Jesus.
In other words, even though Jesus has just ascended into heaven and is gone from their sight, His teaching ministry is not done. It is not over. Life may not look the same, but Christ is not done.
Big idea: to consecrate yourself you have to be always watchful to not let anything pull you away from that.
Big idea: What are we consecrated for? To live for God and do the work of God, because of what Christ did as we're in the "already but not yet.
Big idea: Consecration is an exciting thing to do because you're getting yourselves ready for a new work of God.
Big idea: Christ empowers us to live the life He calls us to live.
The author’s final exhortations are different callings made to followers of Christ. Apart from Christ, these things would be difficult. But because of Him, we are fully grounded to press on, move forward and know that we will see Him face to face.
Big idea: Christ is the foundation of our faith.
We live by faith and not by sight. So many of the heroes of faith did not see what was promised, yet they persevered. Through Christ we have the ability to persevere with the greater hope that we will see what He promised—whether it’s on this side of eternity or with Him.
Big idea: Christ fully committed for us, so we can fully commit to Him, through Him.
We have the ability to persevere because Christ persevered all the way to death and resurrected. Perseverance and surrender are the way of the Messiah, and the path He paved for us. It is a challenging road, but one that has eternal impact.
Big idea: Christ’s blood made the way once and for all. The shedding of blood was necessary for the forgiveness of sins—hence the sacrifices of the Old Testament. Through Jesus’s blood, we are fully cleansed and fully covered to enter God’s house—not an earthly tabernacle, but His direct Presence here on earth, and eventually enter our Heavenly home.
Big idea: Because of Jesus, we have access to the new covenant. As we learned in previous weeks, Jesus became our high priest, and in God’s faithfulness to His own word for His people, all who accept Christ now fall under the promise of the new covenant. Jesus has come to make all things new.
Big idea: Because God is fully faithful, we can be fully anchored on Christ.
What are we anchored on? Anything that is not Christ will cause us to shift and sway at life’s happenings. But if we are anchored on Christ, we will see that we are anchored on ancient promises that stand the test of time. He is fully faithful, and therefore we can be fully anchored.
Big idea: Jesus is our High Priest because only He is fully holy.
Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant. Fulfilling the requirements of every priest that ever existed, Jesus became the high priest (the one who offers the sacrifice), the altar (where the sacrifice is made), and the sacrifice (the actual offering) once and for all, for us. Because of this, we have freedom to approach God’s throne. Because of His holiness, we can be made holy.
Big idea: Christ is our sabbath.
One of the laws broken time after time by God’s people was the sabbath. People did not rest as God commanded them and that led to a whole series of problems. We live in a world where we are applauded for working “part-time, full-time and all-the-time,” and we too, break God’s command of keeping the sabbath holy. Christ is our true rest because of the work He accomplished on the cross; what would a life of practicing true rest look like?
Big idea: In Christ we have a calling to persevere against unbelief.
Throughout Israel’s history, the repetitive behavioral pattern of chasing after other gods and forgetting the promises of God is a prominent theme. Through Christ, our hearts of stone can become ones of flesh; being in communion with Him and community with others to press against the hardening of heart and unbelief.
Big idea: Christ was fully man and fully God. Because the very Son of God became a little less than the angels for a little while—God then exalted Him to the highest place. Because of the hypostatic union (fully God, fully man) we have a Messiah who relates to us in every way, yet while remaining sinless paved the path to our freedom.
Big idea: Christ is fully superior to all things. God exalted his Son to the highest place—over angels and all created things, so that in Him He might become preeminent—the firstborn of creation. With this title, we have an unshakeable confidence that in Christ we have God’s direct word. His direct revelation. And with that, we have all we need.
Big idea: In Christ, all things are fully filled.
Introduce the series; objectives, and “start backwards.” Everything is fully filled in Christ. The benediction states that it is God who makes all things whole, through Jesus who is our Great Shepherd—the Lord is our Shepherd, therefore we lack nothing. All glory to Jesus forever and always, oh YES!
God has called every believer into his service, and he has uniquely blessed us with spiritual gifts to serve. You will hear from Charlene Friedman, the Director of the Deacon Caring Ministry, who will encourage all to use their spiritual gifts in service to the kingdom of God.
On this Pentecost Sunday, we will see how Psalm 110, a passage quoted by Peter in Acts 2 after being empowered and filled by the Holy Spirit, introduces the gift of the Holy Spirit as an extension of the ascencion.
Times of trial are not pleasant, but we have this blessed assurance in Jesus that all will be restored and made new. We can confidently proclaim, "The Lord has Done Great Things!"
"Jesus was resurrected from the dead. The women went to the tomb early on the first day of the week. They were met by a young man dressed in a white robe. He said, ""Don't be alarmed... He has risen! He is not here"" This resurrection news was mind-blowing and cause the women to tremble because they were afraid."
Jesus entered into Jerusalem. The next day he went to the temple and encountered a fig tree on the way. The fig tree had no fruit. He then went to the temple courts and saw that those present had no "fruit." These honest encounters with Jesus revealed the state of God's people in terms of yielding fruit in their lives.
Jesus contrasted small children with a rich man in terms of who is receptive to God's rule & reign in their lives. These encounters with Jesus show that the kingdom of God is an "upside down kingdom" where the first will be last and the last will be first.
Jesus was transfigured on a high mountain and then came down to the valley to encounter a son who was possessed by a spirit. Jesus was fully present in both. These encounters with Jesus on the mountain and in the valley show that God is present in both
Jesus asked what others said about him and Peter shared that he was the Messiah. Jesus then described his death and the way of discipleship. This way requires that people deny themselves and take up their cross and follow him. This encounter with Jesus revealed his identity and the way of the cross to his disciples.
Jesus questioned the practices and traditions of the elders. He shared that is from within out of a person's heart, that evil comes. Jesus wanted the hearts of his people, not just their outward actions. This encounters with the Pharisees and teachers of the law demonstrated what is "clean" according to God and our need for God's cleansing work in our hearts.
Jesus sent the disciples ahead in a boat and they struggled against the wind. They thought he was a ghost when they saw him walking on the lake and they were terrified. Jesus told them "take courage!" and joined them in the boat. This encounters with Jesus revealed Jesus' identity and continued to challenge the disciples.
Jairs' daughter and bleeding woman. Both could have given up hope and determined that nothing could change. These encounters with Jesus interrupted that thinking and led to a different outcome.
Demon-possessed man was beyond help and hope. Jesus helped him by removing the legion of demons and restoring him. This encounter with Jesus changed this man and disrupted the local economy in the process!
"The kingdom of God collides with the kingdoms of this world and our personal kingdom. God sent Jesus to break in and tie up his enemy in order to set his people free. Those who embrace him are included in his circle of trust as his family."
Jesus broke conventions. Jesus called Levi to follow him, he ate with sinners and didn't fast and allowed for actions on the Sabbath. These encounters with Jesus called the Jewish faith, as practiced at that time, into question.
Jesus forgave and healed the paralyzed man that was brought to him by four people. Jesus responded to the faith of the group or four who brought him. This encounter with Jesus led to forgiveness of the man's sins and healing while also raising warning flags with the religious leaders
The initial encounters with Jesus brought reactions of amazement. He didn't act and teach like other religious leaders. There was something amazingly different about him and the impact that he had on those he encountered. The news about him spread quickly!
The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. John the Baptizer prepared the way for Jesus. Jesus is baptized, announced the breaking news of God's Kingdom and he calls his first disciples. This sermon will setup the Gospel of Mark and the breaking good news of Jesus Christ!
Jesus came to restore, renew and revive us! The Son of God in the flesh was seen, heard and touched in human history as he came to be with us. He declared the message that God is light and in Him there is no darkness. Jesus embodied this as the way, the truth and the life. If we walk in his ways then we will walk in the light. As we walk in the light as he is in the light he will supernaturally restore our relationships with Him and with one another. May we all consider or reconsider the true light of Christmas that seen, known and experienced in the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior!
We were once darkness but now we are light in the Lord. God calls us to live as children of light and reflect his light into our dark world. We can separate ourselves from darkness and embrace the light of Christ as we live out our faith. We can play a significant role in God sending his light into darkness through how we live.
How do we know how to live in the light? God has given us His Word which serves as a lamp for our feet.
The same God who said “Let there be light” is the God who makes His light shine in our hearts so we can know him. All that stands against God seeks to blind us from the good news of Jesus Christ and keep us in the dark. God sends light into darkness to overcome that darkness and let us truly see the glory of God.
Jesus is the light of the world. The disciples came across a man who was blind from birth and wondered who sinned to cause his blindness. This man was in the dark and experienced darkness. Jesus responded by saying that it wasn’t a result of any person’s sin but that his response to this man would display the works of God. He then proceeded to heal the man and share that he is the light of the world. In the midst of our dark struggles, Jesus comes to us with his life, healing and restoration.
God sends light so that no one should stay in darkness. God invites us out of the darkness into this grace-filled light. Jesus came to bring light and life. We do not have to ultimately fear darkness or anything if we put our faith and trust in Jesus. We will have our struggles but God promises to walk with us in the darkness and cast out that fear by his perfect love and light.
Jesus teaches us to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind. There is no part of human life that is off limits to claims of God. Progress in holiness is an expected response of gratitude to the grace of God, which is initiated, sustained and fulfilled by the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. The Ten Commandments provide the way for us to respond in obedience with the help of the Holy Spirit.
In Christ, we are adopted into the family of God and find our new identity as brothers and sisters of one another, since we now share one Father. Our faith requires active participation in our life together. God’s grace is extended through the preaching of the Word, the administration of the sacraments (baptism and the Lord’s Supper) and the faithful practice of mutual discipline.
God calls and invites us to follow Jesus but we are incapable of turning to God on our own. We need his grace and truth to open our eyes. As we respond to his call and receive God’s grace in Christ, we then extend that grace to others. God calls together his children to be salt and light in the world.
God created the world good but humanity turned away from him. God didn’t give up on us but promised to send a Savior. Those who are united through faith with Jesus Christ are fully forgiven from all our sin and declared justified as God’s adopted children because of God’s grace. Jesus Christ is the only way to this adoption, the sole path by which sinners become children of God. We can flourish as followers of Jesus as we rely on his grace and abide in him as his followers.
God came to be with us in Christ. He “moved into the neighborhood” and revealed who God is. Jesus Christ is both truly God and truly human. This is another great mystery of the Christian faith. Jesus, who was sent from the Father, has now ascended to the Father in his resurrected body and sits at His right hand, interceding for us based on his finished, atoning work.
We can only truly know someone at a deep level based on how that person shares about themselves. God has revealed himself as a triune God and this is one of the great mysteries of the Christian faith. God is both one essence and three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We can know God as a relational God and a God who fulfills his promises through action as we consider the Trinity as revealed in descriptions about God in the Bible.
The clear declaration of God’s glory is found in His Word, both incarnate and written. The written Word proclaims the saving gospel of Jesus Christ and graciously teaches all that is necessary for faith and life. Our role is to seek to let God’s Word connect us more deeply with Jesus and let him shape our thoughts, attitudes and actions.
Our “true north” is summarized in the first question of the Westminster Shorter catechism. The chief end of humanity is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. We can glorify him as we know him based on what he has shared about himself. As we worship God for who he is and what he has done, we can reorient our lives according to what is essential.
To share the life-transforming hope of Jesus is to share Jesus himself (the person and promises of Christ). How can we share this hope?
The prayer in Romans 15:13 provides a starting point for how we can share the life-transforming hope of Jesus Christ. As we trust in the God of hope, he will fill us with all joy and peace so that we may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We start with our actions but a watching world will have questions. When these questions come, we are called to respond to these questions with a reason for the hope that we have (1 Peter 3:15). God calls us to provide an explanatory word about God's work in our lives. We are called to live "questionable lives" (lives that are called into question for good). This is a different kind of questionable life than how we normally use that description.
In summary, as we revere (set aside) Christ as Lord in our hearts, the prayer of Romans 15:13 will be answered and take place. We should then ALWAYS be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks. We can share the life-transforming hope of Jesus Christ in this way and invite others to (re)consider this hope in their lives.
To embrace the life-transforming hope of Jesus is to embrace Jesus himself (the person and promises of Christ). How can we embrace this hope together? A person initially embraces the life-transforming hope of Jesus as they believe in his name and receive the grace of God (John 1:12). They can then embrace this hope more and more as they continue to root their lives in his love, grace and truth. As they do, they will be built up in him and strengthened in the faith as they were taught (Colossians 2:6-7). Followers of Christ are exhorted to hold unswervingly to this hope they profess because he who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23). What does it mean to believe in his name and receive his grace? For those who have done this, how can they continue to live their lives in him so that they are strengthened in their faith? We will be considering how to embrace the life-transforming hope of Jesus together and how we can help others do the same. As we learn to trust in Christ, God will fill us with all joy and peace so that we may overflow with hope (Romans 15:13). Our church is seeking to help every person to embrace the life-transforming hope of Jesus through a fresh set of ways to connect and serve together with NPPC.
To discover the life-transforming hope of Jesus is to discover Jesus himself (the person and promises of Christ). What is the life-transforming hope of Jesus Christ and how can we discover this hope? The hope of Christ fills us with all joy and peace as we trust in him (Romans 15:13). The God of hope, revealed in Jesus Christ, will do this as we seek him in Scripture (Romans 15:4), in prayer (Ephesians 1:18) and in our shared life of trust/obedience (1 John 1:7). Overall, we can discover the life-transforming hope of Jesus Christ together as we make Jesus the starting point for how we see/understand all of life, both this one and the one to come (1 Peter 1:3). By faith, we are united to Christ and he lives within us. We are not alone and he will never leave us nor forsake us. Ultimately, Christ within us is the hope of glory and we can discover that life-transforming hope together. (Colossians 1:27).
God calls us to never be lacking in zeal but to keep our spiritual fervor. How can we do this in a world that is constantly pulling us away from Christ and trying to put out our spiritual fire? This passage provides practical step for how to live out our faith in light of God's mercy.
NFL teams are finishing training camp and the teams are determining their starters based on their strengths and the team. God has called us to a team that is far greater than a NFL team or any sports team. We are called to exercise our faith by utilizing our God-given gifts. This is how we offer ourselvses as living sacrifices to God.
God calls us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices but we can easily get pulled away from Christ. We must intentionally seek ways to be transformed by the renewing of our mind as opposed to conforming to the pattern of this world. We will explore how to let God transform us while also resisting being conformed to the pattern of this world.
The focus is Romans 12:1 and offering ourselves as living sacrifices in view of God's mercy. The primary emphasis will be on the God's great mercy and our response to that great mercy with our lives. This series will point toward our September push to have each person (re)engage with NPPC through serving and utilizing their gifts.
What is freedom? How does God describe freedom in the Bible and how does that differ from our culture's working assumptions about freedom.
We should not look to others to be someone that only God can be. God warns us to not look horizontally for what can only truly come vertically from Him. We will be focusing on God's call to turn to Him as the true source of life and, therefore, the way to free people from looking to others as the primary source of fulfilling their needs/desires.
As followers of Jesus, we are adopted children of God with a common heavenly Father. We can learn to relate well with our parents as we learn to relate with our heavenly Father. We may think that it goes the other way around but this is the flow of learning how to relate.
Guard your heart... everything flows from it. We may be tempted to point our fingers at the relational mess of others while missing out on how we are contributing to the mess.
The phrase "next generation" speaks to the issue of "legacy". Dictionary definition says: " something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor." Hebrews 11:21 will be the anchor text for the message. This can be broadened beyond "grand-parenting" to the challenge for all of us to think about "What will be my legacy for the cause of Christ when I'm gone?" and "How am I creating a legacy for the glory of Christ in other lives every single day I live for him, no matter what my age."
God has designed sex but the brokenness of our world has messed with that original design. What does God have to say about sex? What does God teach us in the Bible? We will focus on what is in the Bible, including the words of Jesus and the Apostle Paul.
Picture of parenting through how the Apostle Paul related to the Thessalonian Christians. He encouraged, comforted and urged them to live lives worthy of God. This is the high calling of a parent as a follower of Jesus.
God's call to love one another in humility by considering others and looking out for their interests, not just our own. This wisdom, rooted in the life of Christ, provides help for marriages and all relationships.
Cain became angry at his brother and murdered him. This was the first of countless messy family situations in the Bible. God has dealt with messy families since and he has grace for us in the midst of our relational challenges. Families provide a unique set of challenges but they also provide a unique set of opportunities for our growth.

Jesus Christ is the cornerstone and we are living stones built together into a spiritual house. God calls us to offer spiritual sacrifices and declare his praises. We can faithfully do this as we recognize that we are part of God's house, His people.
