Some of this mess you guys are doing on Facebook has GOT to GO for 2024! Let us know in the comments if you agree or disagree with us and look - if you agree with us - we still love you. And if you don't - we still love you. But also we said what we said. - BJ Murphy & Aleatha Thrower
This is probably the most "Off the Record" we have ever been. But you know what? "We said what we said."
Aleatha walked into the office and said we had to record today because she needed to fuss at me. But then I threw her off her game as only I can do. Enjoy her rants!
www.bjmurphy360.com
After a 6-month to 10-year hiatus, we're back!!! Aleatha admits she was becoming too famous, so she stopped recording OTR. Find out what's been happening and what we would've told our younger selves. #offtherecord
www.bjmurphy360.com
Aleatha hates reading TikTok comments, so we thought she should blindly react to comments on some of the most viral TikToks featuring her. And if you think this is funny, you're right!
You're welcome. ;)

BJ has 4 cups of coffee before 11am and was up at 2am - what in the world!? And Aleatha just might skip Christmas altogether! hahaha
A week after chatting with ECU students I had the opportunity to address a business management class at North Lenoir High School. In a first for me, I shared actual slides created in 2016 at the startup phase of Magic Mile Media (pre-Neuse News). In the talk, I broke down why I started MMM, how I used a SWOT Analysis, what I learned about the market, how I projected financials, and more.
www.bjmurphy360.com
In this episode of OTR, Aleatha decrees she doesn't like fake people. #bigsurprise We discuss App State family weekend, my latest talks at ECU and North Lenoir, and more. Then my OTR Commentary chastises elected officials for not representing the people first.
www.bjmurphy360.com
What are the fundamentals of how to make money? How can you do that in an ethical way? In this address to ECU College of Business students, I shared, "We all will make more money if we invest our time into inspiring teams rather than managing employees."
Three key points:
Treat people fairly and like family.
Work hard and let go of fearing failure
Solve more problems by empowering others to make decisions
Four philosophies that drive me:
Trust is greater than Skill
Relationships are greater than Money
Doers are greater than Complainers
Master the Mundane
Final thought:
Go all-in on your strengths and what makes you happy.

We celebrated my 41st birthday with a special guest...Aleatha's momma! She addresses what "swivet" means and one mistake today's parents make. Oh, and guess how many times Aleatha's momma popped her on the show!

Aleatha's in a swivet and we're spun all the way up on this episode of Off the Record. This may be the most Deep Run episode yet.

Aleatha and I kick off a "new season" of OTR with a winding down of life's events this summer. We have an intense discussion about why we should stop caring about other people's opinions.

Aleatha and I consider "Neuse News: The Musical", we plan a team outing and I give four things you can do when complaining about politics. And what's our show without a few laughs?

In part 2 of OTR Episode 9, we discuss what's missing in the work ethic of this generation. Can you guess Aleatha's motivation to work as a teenager? Too good to miss.
www.bjmurphy360.com
This OTR was so much fun, we've made it a two-part episode. How many banks are on the south side? What gives BJ anxiety? Aleatha explains why BJ is a part of the problem. And BJ's OTR Commentary addresses the need for two Kinston City Councilmen to resign.
www.bjmurphy360.com
Aleatha's sidebar on "tending your own corn" was so strong, I almost didn't give my own OTR commentary. But I did and used it to address Vernon Park Mall. Enjoy OTR Episode 8 - Tend Your Corn.

Have you ever had your mouth washed out with soap? And my OTR commentary addresses the lack of humility and kindness in leadership. Join us as local Agricultural Extension Director Tammy Kelly joins Episode 7 of Off the Record.

The southern draw is strong, BJ apologizes to OTR viewers, and Aleatha compares BJ to Screech. All this and much more on Off the Record, Ep. 6 - Twice Times.

Aleatha describes having won Mom of the Year. BJ details his recent near-death experience. And the Off the Record commentary solves the shortage of workers challenge crippling our economy.

For the first time in my life, instead of giving a welcome at church I had the honor of actually bringing the message. Pastor Allen Stocks and his leadership team at Tanglewood Church invited me to speak on Graduation Sunday.
My message was entitled "Side to Side" which took some cues from the parable of the talents and the movie "Hitch".
Five key talking points:
Congratulations to this year's graduating class. I promise you'll have challenges ahead, but the opportunities to use your talents and contribute to this world are far greater.

On this episode of BJ Murphy 360, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Bryan Hanks.
Bryan is the former Editor of the Kinston Free Press, has written for multiple national news outlets, and is an avid sports fan. We've worked together long enough that he's written both favorable and unfavorable editorials about policy/advocacy positions I've taken over the years. As you can tell we've got a great mutual respect for each other.
I visited him at his home (full of Washington Redskins and UVA memorabilia) and we discussed sports, politics including Trump and the state of NC, and more. Our Rapid Fire Round included Lebron or Jordan, Coach K or Wooden, Wood Ducks or Indians, NC East or West BBQ, and when the first female POTUS could be sworn in. Then Bryan asks a Question of the Day that you do not want to miss!
Oh, and you can spot our special guest? #toyoursuccess

On this episode of BJ Murphy 360, I sat down with Algenon Cash. He's a sought-after political commentator across the state, has chaired the North Carolina Energy Forum, and is the owner of Wharton Gladden - where they are now investing in the new Zesto restaurant in the Triad.
We've done this at least once before and had great feedback, so here's another politically agitating, lighthearted, and fun episode for your viewing and educational pleasure. Algenon and I discuss: - North Carolina Leadership Forum - Guns & Mental Health - Trump & Stormy Daniels - Is POTUS keeping his campaign promises - Free Trade - $1.3 Trillion - 2018 NC Elections - 2020 NC Governor's Race
And, in our Rapid Fire Round he's forced to choose between: - Socks or No Socks - Fight: Joe Biden v Donald J. Trump - Dollar or Cryptocurrency - Coca-Cola or Pepsi
Be sure to listen and respond to Algenon's Question of the Day. Until next time here's to your success!
In today's episode, I'm driving from one client to a friend's house. I just left a client discussing marketing efforts on social media - timeline and advertising. One thing I found myself saying several times is that social media marketing can't replace your product's quality. Don't get me wrong, they have a great product. From the time a prospect clicks on your website, walks in your door, or calls the store, what happens next is on you. Social media is simply a great tool to get them there. And, in my opinion, is far out-pacing the attention game than traditional media.
The reason I was visiting a friend is that he needed to understand why I believe he should be more focused on building a personal brand. Why should someone with incredible talent share them via a personal brand? Listen. :)

Yesterday morning I had the privilege of chatting with the Lenoir County Public Schools Executive Office Professionals. We centered a lot of our conversation on leadership and teamwork. Here is a small clip of that 45-minute talk, where we discussed:
http://www.bjmurphy360.com http://www.magicmilemedia.com
Why would followers keep coming back to your Facebook page if all they see is "Buy this" or "We're selling that"? We need to start adding more value to people's experiences with our pages. This will lead to brand ambassadors for your business or cause...much more likely than "buy, buy, buy".
Also, I open up about being disappointed on the number of likes and listeners in the past, and why I've changed that attitude. I'm documenting a journey and the main thing is staying consistent with good content.
During this discussion I talk about my career in B2B sales and even training sales associates in cold calling. Never know, that may be a podcast I do in the future!
Here's to your success!
During a meeting with a small business owner today, we discussed cable TV, social media and YouTube. We also discussed how the market is reacting to changes in technology, and even how our own parents are adapting. That led me to thinking, "Where will Facebook be in five years and how will we adapt?" I'd love to get your feedback and thoughts.
On this episode I take a different path from what I normally talk about in being an entrepreneur and social media marketing manager, and I decided to bring a little bit of my mayor background to the news topic of the day. Our country is having a major dialogue on policy as it relates to the school shooting in Florida and I want to weigh in on how we as a nation and state and local government should create sound policy that affects all of us. Maybe today's episode sparks some emotion in you that you either agree or disagree with my thoughts, so I would encourage you to give me some constructive feedback and feel free to call in and add to the show. Thank you so much!

By far the most analytical and constructive talk I've given regarding leadership, personal branding, social media, interviewing skills, going all-in on your strengths, and more. The Campbell University Lundy-Fetterman School Of Business students asked questions like:
In today's episode of BJ Murphy 360, BJ interviews Algenon Cash about being Locked In with Algenon Cash. Algenon is an entrepreneur and civic leader in Winston-Salem, NC. We discussed small business challenges of raising capital, advantages of social media for entrepreneurs, and the current political climate for small businesses. He also gives some practical advice for millennials who are wanting to get involved in politics.
Here are a few questions we discussed during our time together: - What's your #1 tip for small business owners? - What does it mean to be "locked in"? - Is President Donald Trump helping or hurting small businesses? - Does his Twitter presence impact small businesses? - How can we be part of the solutions in society?

Mark Zuckerberg Lost $3.3 Billion Because of This and He's Right
Facebook caused a stir this past week with the announcement of an impending change to the News Feed that will affect all pages. This development means that business pages (publishers and brands) will have more pressure on them to create content that generates conversations, to stand a better chance of being seen in News Feeds.
Mark Zuckerberg said, “As we roll this out, you’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media.”
In this episode, BJ explains how the new rules will change the way social media marketers interact with Facebook.
Key points
What will and what will not be impacted
Get more creative in driving conversations because Facebook will prioritize such content
Businesses will rely more on paid advertising AND expect ad costs to go up
