From the hard hitting streets of Liverpool to the world of podcasting, Simon, Thomas and Darren argue, debate and mostly disagree on football related topics. Who is right? Who do you agree with? Do you have a favourite?
Will Thomas ever choose a player that hasn’t played for Liverpool? Will Darren cry live on air as his emotions take over? Will Simon continue nodding even when he disagrees?

Welcome to another episode of the Three Men And A Football podcast.

Happy new year from the lads at Three Men And A Football.
What a year it’s been for the Premier League. Who have been your stand-out players? Who stepped up their game during 2020? Which players would you have in your team if you could pick from the entire Premier League?
We are kicking off 2021 by naming our 2020 Premier League Team Of The Year. We start this weeks episode with our own teams and then we attempt to agree on the best 11 players from 2020. Couple of rules;
- Selection should be based on form during 2020.
- No more than 5 players from any one team.
In a year where Liverpool have dominated the Premier League, it was always going to be a challenge to stop Thomas simply naming the Liverpool 11, which is why we came up with rule number 2.

On this weeks festive episode of the Three Men And A Football podcast, we go through a mid-season Premier League review. We talk about each team, how they have performed so far, what we believe the future holds and the players to watch for the rest of the season.
We also talk about the annual Ben Williams Charity match in association with the #followyourheart foundation and the Vitals Signs heart charity. We played the game at South Liverpool on Sunday with a great group of lads and an amazing turn-out for a great cause. It was also a good opportunity to see all the football lads and remember our mate Ben Williams who passed away two years ago.
Thomas also takes the opportunity to walk us through the goal he scored in Sunday’s game. No doubt it won’t be the last time we hear about his goal scoring prowess.

On this weeks very special episode of the Three Men And A Football podcast, we are joined by Tony Denson to celebrate the birthday of our good friend Michael Lundon. Michael is 40 on Wednesday 9th December and we wanted to pay tribute to him, his football career and his ongoing fight with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Tony (Deno) is Michael’s brother-in-law and close friend. So there was nobody better placed to come on the podcast and tell us all about Michael and his family.
Tony talks about Michael’s amazing football career and the amount of trophies he won while playing for Waterloo Dock AFC, one of Liverpools most famous and successful amateur teams. He also tells us all about how Michael played the game… committed, hard and with a massive amount of ability.
We talk about Michael’s ongoing battle with MND and how it’s impacted him and his family. And then we discuss the #Miles4Mick campaign started by Paul Donnelly and supported by thousands across the city and around the world. It’s been amazing to see what people have been doing in recent weeks to support Michael and his family.
Michael is one of the nicest men you are likely to meet and we are lucky to call him a friend. He is a fighter and has dealt with adversity most of us could not even imagine. You are a real-life hero Michael and we hope you have a great 40th birthday.

On this weeks show we spend time with friend of the show, actor and big football fan Philip McGuinness. One day he’s working alongside global superstars like Stephen Graham and the next he’s giving acting advice to Thomas Morris. It’s one extreme to the other in the life of an actor.
We spend some time talking to Phil about his acting career and dig into his love for Everton and David Beckham. Yes, he is an Everton fan but his most memorable football moment was Beckham scoring from the halfway line. I bet he makes all you blues very proud. Ha ha!
We end the episode by having Phil join us in reviewing this weekends Premier League action and dig into all the talking points from a big weekend.
Highlight of the show had to be Phil setting Thomas up for a bit of acting practice by turning him into a Chelsea fan for an audition. Let’s just say it didn’t go well.
Definitely one of the funniest episodes we have ever recorded and Phil was an absolute pleasure to spend time with.
He’s a great actor and can be seen on Netflix in The Alienist: Angel of Darkness or on Amazon Prime in Being Keegan. Both well worth your time, especially Being Keegan with Stephen Graham.

Billy is a long time friend of the lads and has been involved with the Liverpool amateur football scene for about 50 years. Billy has played for and managed some of the best amateur teams in the city and refereed at the top level of the professional game.
Having managed Old Xav’s for many years where Simon and Darren played, Billy is now the Chairman of South Liverpool, where Thomas managers and Simon and Darren continue to try to play the game they love.
Billy shares stories of his playing, managing and refereeing days, including a run-in with Alex Ferguson while refereeing a cup game involving Man Utd. He’s had some amazing experiences and loves to talk so this is a long one. However, well worth the time.

We all love football and the relationships we build with other players, coaches and people around the game. The banter, the support and feeling like you’re part of something special. What if that all went away? What if you couldn’t face your team mates anymore? That happened to this weeks guest, Greg McLean, when he decided to accept the fact that he was gay and tell the people around him.
Greg has been involved in the amateur game in the North West all of his life and after coming to terms with his sexuality in his early twenties, he walked away due to the fear of how his team mates would react. Greg talks to the lads about the challenges he faced as he went through this process and shares the relief he felt when his team mates welcomed him back with open arms and were supportive right through the process.
We really appreciate Greg joining us on the Three Men And A Football podcast to share his story and we hope it helps others who may be going through the same challenges. We discussed the Rainbow laces campaign on the podcast and we will be talking about this more in future so all of us can support this cause.

Becoming a professional footballer is a dream for many kids and especially people who listen to this podcast. However, becoming a professional in two completely different sports is pretty unique. The commitment, the training and the skill needed to achieve this is impressive. Our guest on this weeks episode of the Three Men And a Football podcast, David Birmingham, has all of those attributes in abundance and managed to become a professional in both Football and Boxing.
David spent time at AFC Bournemouth and Portsmouth FC as a professional footballer before making the transition to professional boxing. Hearing his story and the challenges he faced as he transitioned makes this even more impressive. To build yourself back up after dropping out of one professional sport and reaching the heights David reached in a completely different sport tells you all you need to know about who he is as a person and as a competitor.

After a huge amount of time discussing the first topic, it was decided by the team’s unofficial captain, Simon to talk about their top 5 players. They actually voted on who should have the captain’s armband and all voted for themselves. Simon then refused to accept Darren’s or Thomas’s votes, so he won by default. 😊
They all have their own thoughts and generally pick players from teams they don’t support. Well Simon and Darren do but Thomas generally only acknowledges one team. Can you guess who that is?
