Join us today at 11 AM as we welcome special guests Zach & Maggie to lead us in musical worship and as we continue our chapel series on the Two Roads study series by reflecting on the question, "How could this change my life?" We will examine the areas in our lives where grace may decline versus where it thrives. From there, we will reflect on the practical ways we can cultivate grace-filled relationships in everyday moments. As we prepare for worship, we invite you to reflect on these words from Scripture:"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Welcome to Dordt University's Convocation featuring President Erik Hoekstra. Come listen to him talk about "Making a Defense."
This week Jon De Groot, director of campus ministries and worship arts, talks about Moses and how if we want our test to become our testimony, we need to move toward God and spend our time with him—making him the treasure of our lives. Moses wasn't able to set foot in the Promised Land, but the treasure of Moses' life wasn't in the Promised Land. Moses walked with God, and God was the treasure of Moses' life.
Throughout scripture we see evidence of God releasing His blessing on His people after a season of hardship or wrestling. This week, Sam Ashmore, discipleship coordinator, talks about Genesis 32 and how that was true for Jacob. Maybe what our faith needs is a bit more desperation—for us to come to the end of ourselves, and to recognize our desperate need for Jesus.
Aaron Baart, dean of chapel, talks about Abraham and how his 'test' helped form his testimony. God often calls us to new places or to incredible challenges, but he doesn't promise to just meet us on the other side. God does the work in the middle of the difficult things and weaves those into what becomes our testimony.
Because we get to read history backwards, we know that Sunday's coming. The same God who conquered the grave is the same one who promises beautiful things for all who will follow Him, and He is the same God who will cause resurrection even in the midst of the hurt and loss we are experiencing now.
This week for "Dordt Devotions" Aaron Baart, dean of chapel, breaks down the beginning of Acts 1. When the world feels chaotic, as Christ-followers we can live 'future-minded' lives filled with even greater imaginations.
Hear these words of hope and a reminder of God's faithfulness, found in Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing."
