I thought it might be fun to try and go back in time to try to remember all the different modalities I’ve studied and that I draw on in my life.

There's a lot to list here so I won't - you can get it all on the website: https://natashaberta.com/all-the-things-ive-studied-and-used-in-my-healing-journey-aka-life-that-i-can-remember/

Now, mostly, I notice that the more i bring magic into my life – singing – drumming – art – being in nature – being slow – being with women – sticking to my guns – honouring my intuition – loving myself – the more magical my life is.

I have been in business since 2015.

I started posting on YouTube as a way to answer questions that a lot of clients were asking me and as a value add to my one on one sessions. In a time between then and now I have had a number of accidental successful videos YouTube. The first one was How to Create a free landing page on MailChimp. The second was How to Put Faces in Circles in Canva. My current high performer is How to share your Canva design to your Facebook Business Page.

The audience for those videos is 70% male males in Australia over 50.

In my business my favourite niche has been female coaches and healers over 40 and I didn’t really know how to serve my YouTube audience other than the value they were already getting from the videos created. Most of those viral video views came from a Google search and my videos just happened to exactly answer their query.

Fast forward to 2023. I took a job with University of Wollongong for 18 months and in that time I wasn’t creating content for my business. Even still a number of my videos had thousands of views while I did nothing. To me that looks like a business opportunity.

Now it’s 2025 and re-entering my business. I’m open to new things and new ideas.I was still just looking at my YouTube audience and trying to figure out how to make the most of it.

I’ve watched a lot of YouTube channel optimisation videos and advice . I’ve done a mini course with Ali Abdaal and considered doing his large program. My concern is that sometimes I struggle to create content when it's very strategic. My best content seems to come when I'm in pure service. I love one take videos and editing has not felt good in the past.

I’ve been working with ChatGPT to analyse my existing successful videos to see what ideas can be generated through that exchange.ChatGPT talks about freebies and funnels and small ticket courses and templates that could lead to larger courses and coaching. Nothing i don’t already know but I’m approaching it with a new curiosity and willingness. I can't help thinking that those YouTube views could lead to something and at the least, I could try to get monetised again.

I thought it might be valuable to other people to see the kinds of tools I’m using and processes I'm engaged in as I am reinvigorate my YouTube channel with a goal of becoming monetised and developing a business model for that M 50+ audience.

It’s now 16 June 2025 and my current situation with monetisation eligibility is: I have enough subscribers and I have enough uploads. I currently have 139 valid watch hours - my goal is 4000 watch hours in 365 days. ChatGPT thinks I can do it in six months. Let’s see what happens.

I think it’s time to start a new story in our culture about the way we deal with grief. So often I hear this statement: ‘ we are just so bad at grief and death and grieving.’

We can keep this old way of thinking in place or we can challenge this and I hope this episode can meet you wherever you are at with your grief process.

Why I’m Never Busy

“How are you?”

“I’m so busy”

This is the most common line I hear in conversation especially with business people and mums. It’s definitely a thing I used to say a lot and now I try not to say it at all.

If I feel like I am about to say “I’m busy” I take a moment to reconsider and to take responsibility. Instead I say: “I’m fully engaged with my life” or “I have a lot on” or something like that.

If you like to say you’re busy please go ahead. I don’t judge you. I just know that when I was saying “I’m busy” it was a number of things. It was a badge of martyrdom. It was an abdication of my responsibility. It was a cop out and it was an excuse.

It felt good to say I was busy. It was me, as a mother, putting myself last. I was making excuses for why I couldn’t put my self care and wellbeing first in my life and the problem with that is: no-one else in the world is going to put me first. They might be playing the same mothering game as me and failing to put themselves first, but they certainly aren’t going to put me first. I needed to do that.

For me, the ability to change my relationship with busy-ness took a number of years and some tough challenges. My health declined and I simply couldn’t be busy. Plus, being busy was making me sick. I was anemic with HMB and I needed to learn a new way of being. Stress and overwork were making my condition worse and after a bout in hospital I finally committed to a new direction.

I had to learn to see the mindsets and beliefs that were keeping me stuck. I had to remind myself again and again that I am the boss and I get to make the rules. I had to release a lot of my employee mindset hangovers and step into a new paradigm aside from capitalism’s demands to do, do, do for more, more, more. I had to decide what I personally want from my life and business and redefine my goals.

I had to ask a lot of questions. Do I really want a 6 or 7 figure business? What do I want my days to look like? What are my priorities? What are my interests and who decides how much I should do? Should I let my imagination decide what other people think I should do or should I honour my body, intuition and health indicators.

I realised that I couldn’t blame my partner, his family, my family or society. I had to get good at saying no and taking the time to discern where my energy was best spent. In reality that looks like a lot of mistakes, a lot of over-doing it migraines and a lot of days in bed. It has taken dozens of reiterations of my calendar and it’s something I’m still working on every week and every day.

Ultimately I see that I need to continue to take responsibility. It’s my responsibility to take care of my wellbeing. I and only I am responsible for the hours I work and how I work. It’s entirely up to me to structure my days and commitments so that I can have the life I want.

It’s super satisfying and it’s also very uncomfortable but when I think about being an employee I’m just not sure how I would go. I feel like I’ve learned a lot of lessons and I’m in a completely different field to a lot of people, particularly people who don’t have a business.

I’ve had to learn to emotionally regulate myself when I’m in stressful situations instead of disassociating. I’m still learning that one. I am still learning how much time I need in nature and how much I need quiet. From my perspective it’s all a big experiment and I’m still playing the game.

We all have a choice. We all chose to be where we currently are whether we realise or not. I choose how I relate to my life circumstances and I find that very satisfying. I practice being satisfied. Satisfied with what I have. I take time to notice all that I have. I feel very lucky and grateful. And I’m never busy.

Are you creative?

I pose this question to you for reflection.

I have my own opinion about it.

If you are alive you are creative.

If you are in business you are creative.

The old paradigm of our society tells us that creative people make art and then that art gets sold or hung in a gallery. It tells us that only some people have the “right stuff" to be an artist and that if our creative output doesn’t look like what we see in a gallery, that we aren’t creative and we should be an accountant or something.

That is all a big fat lie.

Every cup of tea, every meal, every doodle while we’re on the phone and especially your business is a creative act.

Creativity is to create something. To create something is to bring something into the world that wasn’t there before.

So yes: you are creative. The small ways like meals and tea and the large ways, like a business or your art.

The resources I mentioned:

Australian Bush Flower Essence: Turkey Bush

Aesha Kennedy - Creativi-Tea

The Artists's Way - Julia Cameron

Big Magic - Elizabeth Gilbert

It's bedtime story time with Aunty Yo.

I just finished some intensive business and life planning. This was inspired after bingeing on Cal Newport's podcast for 3 days including a 7 hour car ride.

It feels great to do my planning and then I got to thinking about how Cal Newport has really helped me in my life.

And then I started thinking about all the mentors and teachers I've had lately and how they have supported and inspired me lately.

So here's a rambly podcast about how I got my life from overwhelmed and semi-psychotic to basically a Zen master haha.

People I mention:

Melanie White

Danielle Gardner

George Kao

Cal Newport

I know how challenging it is to grow your business.

The thing is:

you can make it easier or harder for yourself.

What are you willing to do?

What do you want?

What do you like?

The magic trick is to give these things your energy instead of the opposite.

You can do this!

I know it can be off-putting when you see how many people are doing the thing you are doing.

There are already so many counselors, business mentors, astrologers, naturopaths, hypnosis practitioners, coaches, weight loss coaches, kinesiologists, sound healers and energy workers.

It’s all been done already.

Yes - there are already so many people doing what you are doing.

But none of them is you.

It’s what you bring to the process that is so delicious.

Especially to your ideal clients.

Your mind will deliver the "evidence" it wants to see whether you are in a state with negative or positive beliefs.

So if we are thinking negative and painful thoughts, our RAS will find ways to reinforce those beliefs.

It wants us to be right!

Looking at the objective reality in a reviewing way can be a helpful tool to diffuse negative thought patterns if this is a challenge for you.

Today I'm chatting about lessons I am learning in my life right now and that I hope might benefit you.

I think it's tremendously valuable for oneself and as a culture to learn to be ok with the unresolved.

The unresolved what?

Unresolved conversations

Unresolved problems

Unresolved feelings

The thing is: they are currently changing anyway, but when we try to force them and force resolution, we either dominate others or create more tension within ourselves.

I hope this gives some benefit to you and I am sending you all of my compassionate love.

More from me: https://connectedmarketing.com.au/

Perth based Naturopath, Bodytalk and Reiki Practitioner. Amanda Hobley has worked with hundreds of women, supporting and empowering them to learn to become experts of themselves.

With a special interest in Women’s Health, Amanda combines her own life experience with over 17 years of clinical experience to hold space for her clients at her North Perth practice. She has a special interest in women who are in transitional periods, and working through stress while longing to feel connected, calm, and balanced. She finds great joy in watching these women regain their energy, motivation, and love for life. Along with her private consultations, Amanda guides wellness retreats and journeys both locally and internationally.

I’m Amanda Hobley, a Perth based Naturopath, Bodytalk and Reiki Practitioner.

More importantly, I’m a teacher.

I guide people towards calm for those who are stressed, energy for those who are exhausted, and peace for those who are anxious. Because happiness and health isn’t just about doing what I think you should do. It’s not really about the program, or the supplements, or the modalities. Those are all tools to help with the transition.

It’s really about showing you how to find your way back to you so you become the expert of yourself. It’s teaching you how to listen. So you know how to connect with your own innate wisdom. And then follow it I’ll be your co-traveller, the one with the lamp light, through the unique and individual pathway you need to travel to get back to yourself. And don’t worry, I’ve walked this road before.

Here are my 7 big takeaways:

  1. Goals can steal the glory
  2. It really is all about your energy
  3. The pleasure factor
  4. The fine line between effort, anxiety, neuroticism and surrender
  5. "Everyone has already seen this"
  6. "People are getting sick of seeing this"
  7. I want to be a small, quiet person who doesn't bother people.

If you are new in online business, it can be helpful to know which steps in which order. As long as you have an ABN you are ready to roll and start making money in your business.

In my other blog “Do You Need a Website” I mentioned having made 10k in my business before I even had a website. I said that if you just have a booking tool like Acuity and a social media account you can definitely make money and start your business online without a website. That’s how I did it.

So today I’d like to go into a bit more detail about Acuity and help you get started making money in your business.

The other podcast I mentioned in this episode is "Easy tools to run an online business: Zoom"

What do you REALLY need to start serving clients online? I have talked about this a bunch in a couple of other blogs - like “Do you need a website” and “Easy tools to run an online business: Acuity” so today I’m going to talk about Zoom.

If you aren’t familiar with Zoom now I would be very surprised. Before the global lockdowns, I was using Zoom daily and running my business online with people having a variety of experience with Zoom - but now we have all been connecting digitally a bit more, even my in-laws can use Zoom!

I do still want to talk about it in the online business context though. Because I really want you to know how I ran my business in the early days particularly without a website.

Want to read this on the blog? Here it is: https://connectedmarketing.com.au/easy-tools-to-run-an-online-business-zoom/

Here are the other resources I mentioned in this episode:

How to set up your Acuity: https://connectedmarketing.com.au/easy-tools-to-run-an-online-business-acuity/

Do you really need a website? And what is the bare, absolute minimum you need to deliver services in an online business? I have a friend who I saw the other day and I know that she does not want to be on Facebook and she does not want to be on Instagram. I also know that she is basically a little bush fairy who does not want to spend much time on her computer or be very involved with technology.

So when she told me that she was going to make a website I kind of freaked out.

I would say the basic steps are:

Get your ABN (this should be free)

Set up a bank account for your business

Set up PayPal business account

Get Acuity - the paid version

Get Zoom

Set up on one social media account

Then you are ready to start serving people.

I had a great chat with the divine Jana Langford the other night and she asked me: What 3 things (or ppl) you wish you had when you started your biz?

It was a bit hard for me to answer, because I really felt like I had what I needed in the early days of my business but i would say that the 3 main things that I had or wished I was better at are:

  • Colleagues
  • A reliable system/mentor
  • Consistency

I also found that the courage to be vulnerable and authentic is a big contributor to business success.

Today I'm going to share a simple, practical structure to support wild, rule-defying creatrix women to create content. What???

I mean: I work with a lot of women (and I myself am one) who dislike norms. Women who need to pave their own way. Who have a lot to share but say “f*&# you” to shoulds.

Or maybe they’re not quite that shouty but they find it hard to follow a regular set of rules about content creation.

I have been there. I thought I knew how to create content and I would just go with the flow. I would just pop into Facebook and post a bit there and then pop to Instagram and do a bit there and then pop to LinkedIn and then POP – the day was over and I wasn’t sure what I’d really achieved and where the time had gone.

Plus, I wasn’t sharing my gold.

I was kind of splatter gun promoting, not really building an audience around my deeper soul work.

Sound familiar?

What do you offer your clients? Your offer is the solution you deliver, and it’s also your service that you promote. It’s the way you serve others and it’s the way you make money in your business. Generally when I’m supporting women in business I’m seeing 2 things:

  1. Making offers all the time and not sharing content
  2. Not making offers at all and just sharing content

Other concerns people have about their offer is around pricing. I have spoken before about Compassionate Pricing. This can be pay what you can, or just affordable pricing that still allows you to feel fairly remunerated and feed your family.

Other concerns that I have about people’s offers relate to: “how did you figure out what your offer is?”

Did you just pluck it out of thin air, or receive a download? Or did you base it on intel from your customers and prospective customers?

If your offer is not aligned with what your audience actually wants they will not buy. The easiest way to figure out what your audience wants is to ask them.

When I first heard the term sustainable business I thought people were talking about sustainability in terms similar to environmental sustainability. and I thought to myself “well I use recycled paper I try to reduce my impacts in terms of the environment so I don't really need to read that article do I?”.

What I've learnt over time is a clearer understanding of what a sustainable business is. While it's not strictly about environmental sustainability, I think that when you look after yourself, care for yourself and craft a life where you are eating well and keeping mentally well, that you would naturally tend towards environmental sensitivity and care as a flow on effect. So it’s not explicitly about recycled paper and care for the environment but at a micro/macro level it is.

What I'm really talking about today is having a business that can be sustained. a business where you're not going to burn out and a business that is going to provide what you need from it in terms of income and also in terms of what feeds your soul.

You can read the blog version here: https://connectedmarketing.com.au/what-is-a-sustainable-business/

YouTube has become a large platform where some people seem to make a tonne of money making videos and doing affiliate and referral marketing. Most people say: it’s never too late to start a YouTube channel and I agree.

I would like to make a distinction now

There are 2 kinds of YouTube channels:

The channel is the primary business

The channel is for marketing to the primary business

One type of YouTube channel is where creating the content is the main offering and you focus on having affiliate relationships and sponsorship deals to generate your income. Some people also like to create Merch merchandise to supplement their income.

If you are a service based entrepreneur, you don’t need to have a YouTube channel at all...you aren’t looking at being famous like Mr Beast. You want to serve more people doing what you love. Right?

This podcast is for you.

you aren't clear on your why

or

your motivators are extrinsic

This year I am a member of George Kao's Masterheart Group Program. I am honoured to be interviewed by George as a member "progress" interview. What progress?

I have gone from be a free agent with my days to being a highly calendar driven person.

What made me decide to pursue this experiment?

I wasn't happy in my day to day. The idea of "Joyful Productivity" and finding joy in each moment held a lot of appeal for me. I was desperate so I tried the calendar experiment and now, not only is my business moving in new and wonderful directions, I am happier each day. Magic! Or is it?

Another fun thing is I give a bit of my business and life backstory which I don't go into very often so I hope you enjoy this chat with me and my current biz mentor :)

When I listen to a podcast or audiobook I feel like I’m right there with the host/author. It feels really intimate. They are right there in my ear.

There is a lot of focus on video in social media and marketing in general at the moment. Tik Tok is huge, Instagram has just announced that they are no longer a photo sharing app but a video sharing one.

Some of my clients don’t feel like video is right for them. They’re just not willing to do it even though they know it’s really great for business.

Other clients deliver the transformation to their clients through their voice like through hypnosis or sound healing or light language transmission.

Today I’m shouting from the rooftops about audio. I’m super excited about audio as an option especially for people trying to reduce their reliance on social media or who find it really hard to be online all the time.

When Mel told me she wanted to chat about knowing yourself I got so excited - because it's one of those seemingly throw-away statements that has really rung true for me in my business and life.

And I find it's helping me with my kid's weekend fights too.

Even though we are imperfect, we can really get a lot more out of life when we know ourselves. But Mel didn't actually take the conversation there.

She was talking about how knowing yourself can really help you to grow your business - and she should know.

She is a coach trainer at Wellness Coaching Australia and also runs successful businesses supporting coaches and clients to get more of what they want - including me.

I've been working with Mel for over 2 years and I love what coaching has helped me achieve - not just revenue - but on a personal level - with my family and with myself.

One of the best tools you can have in place for an online business is Acuity for booking sessions with clients and taking payments.

You can save so much time: instead of sending endless emails or messages back and forth trying to find a mutually agreeable session time. PLUS you can start to deliver services, take payments and operate online using Acuity.

What is Acuity? Acuity is an online tool you can use for free or you can use the paid version which enables you to take payments, sync to your calendar and customise the appearance to a greater extent.

Here are the basic steps:

Create appointment and class types

Send the person a url where they will go and choose a time (and pay if needed)

Easy huh?

But there is a bit of set up to get you there. Don’t fret – it’s not too hard and I’ll show you how in the video above.

No website? No worries…. The beauty of Acuity is that you can start setting up sessions and taking payments before you even have a website or as a way to side-step setting up eCommerce on your website. That’s how I started my business.

What about costs? There is a free version which is the one I use. However, you can’t take payments on the free version. I use another tool in my swag for payment processing.

PLUS on the paid version you get calendar sync and customising the appearance more.

Check out the post and video here: https://connectedmarketing.com.au/acuity-set-up/

Let me just answer your question straight away…should you get Canva for work? Should you pay for Canva?

I don’t actually know!

But I can help you to see what you will get with Canva for work and help you to decide for yourself.

If all else fails, I recommend signing up for the free, 30-day trial and if you can’t live without the features once they’re gone, you should probably pay for it.

In this blog and video, I will show you the paid features and why I love them – then it’s up to you.

The main features I love about the paid version of Canva are the brand kit, the free premium phots, and graphics, animations, being able to export images as a png file with a transparent background, magic resize and being able to upload fonts & access premium fonts.

So let’s run through those features briefly – I go into more detail in the video:

  1. Brand Kit The Brand kit basically allows you to create an easy to access section in every design with your brand colours. This is great for me since I create designs for many brands in my Canva, so being able to access the brand colours for all of my clients in one easy click saves me heaps of time.

Canva for work also lets you upload custom fonts and create a folder of logos.

It will really depend on your level of usage as to whether this feature will make or break the deal for you.

  1. Access to premium images and graphics When you pay for Canva you get access to Canva’s library of premium images and vector illustrations.

This was not a deal-breaker for me because I am a huge fan of Unsplash for gorgeous, free photos and Creative Market for vector designs but I hardly use those two resources anymore. I seem to be able to get all I need in Canva lately.

Scratch that, I do still adore Unsplash for royalty-free, stock photography.

But, if you’re seeing a crown on some of the elements in Canva that you want to use or paying for them frequently, you might be better off paying for Canva for Work.

  1. Transparent backgrounds in png This feature is just a logo and website maker geek out I think but sometimes, you want to put your logo on a social media image without that white space behind it…you can do that if the background of your logo is transparent.

I don’t think I can explain it very well in words so check out the video if this isn’t making sense but basically, you can’t download your designs with a transparent background without the paid version – so if that matters to you as much as it does to me, you might want to pay for Canva.

  1. Magic resize This is one feature I really can’t live without and that I find saves me a lot of time.

If you create a design in one layout – for example as a Facebook post – and then you want to turn it into a Facebook header and an email header, you can do that with Canva for work in one click using the Resize option.

This is gold. Check out the video for a demonstration.

  1. Access premium fonts When you have Canva for work you can upload a custom font and use it inside your Canva designs.

This is really helpful if you are using an unusual or custom font that isn’t available in the Canva selection.

If you are creating a design and you like the look of the fonts with a crown beside them, you might be seeking more from the basic font selection.

Personally, I recommend that brands stick to a Google font for website and branding to make it easy but if you want to stand out in the font world, you might like to play around with some premium fonts.

Once you’ve set up the Marketing Basics for your business you might be ready for MORE!

More clients, more revenue and more marketing.

If you have your website, branding and Facebook set up and you want more, I would encourage you to walk through the following steps to grow your business to the next level.

If you don’t have your basics set up I suggest you check out the previous podcast where I outlined the basic steps and then you could pop back here and take your pick of excellent 2nd stage moves.

If you are ready, then choose one of these at a time, dedicate yourself for 1-3 months and then choose another.

If you follow all of these recommendations, you will definitely start to see some business growth over time.

  1. Strategy There are way too many ways to grow your business and too many experts trying to sell you their latest product.

If you have a strategy and a target you are shooting for with steps to follow, you will have HEAPS more mental clarity on the day to day level.

You will have a bubble around you to protect you from shiny objects and random (latest, new, fantastic) marketing trends.

So first things first, you need a strategy.

Tick?

Move on to the next step 🙂

  1. IRL marketing If you are inclined, I ALWAYS recommend personal connections. Local networking events are one way to connect with actual humans. But don’t be a gross salesy person. Just go with the intention of meeting some humans. My coach Melanie White has a great podcast about this you can listen to here.

Listen to that podcast HERE >> Word of mouth and referral marketing are frequently the best way to reach more clients so it’s a great option if that works for your personailty and nature.

  1. Get the Facebook© pixel on your website Whether you are planning to ads yet or not, if you have a website and you have a long term vision for your business, you need the pixel on your site.

It’s very easy to get the pixel on your site. If you have a WordPress site and you are a little savvy, you can use the Pixel My Site plug in and put the pixel on yourself. You’ll probably find these instructions from Facebook helpful:

And if you’re not into stuff like that, your developer should be able to help you.

If you don’t have a developer, I can help you!

Basically, the pixel is a small piece of code that lets Facebook© know when someone who has a Facebook© account has been to your website. It stores that data for 180 days and allows you to target your promotional posts to those people.

It’s very nifty and a bit creepy. But you don’t have to use it in a creepy way! It’s a great way to stay in touch with people who are interested in your service but need more information to decide whether or not to continue with you.

I highly recommend! It takes 10 minutes and is a true business asset now and in the future.

  1. Add people to your Facebook© Ad account And if you are ready to run ads…you might need a hand so you’ll need to know how to add other people to your ad account. It’s not too hard and while you’re in there you’ll find all kinds of other nifty info like your daily ads limit and your billing maximum.

Make friends with your back end!

Lucky for you I made this easy to understand video so you can do that!

Whether you are online only, bricks and mortar only, service based or product based and whatever mix of those 4, there are some things I recommend ALL businesses set up FIRST.

Obviously, every business has distinct needs and every industry has different recommendations that I would make. The recoommendations in this post apply to EVERYONE 🙂

This post if for you if you are very new to it all and you haven’t set up very much or you’re wondering what to focus on FIRST.

If you already have a website and Facebook you would probably benefit more from my other post about the next steps after Facebook and website set up which you will find it in the next episode.

Now, if you’re at the very beginning, what do you need?

1 Facebook Business Page

Whether you want to be active on Facebook or not, I still recommend that everyone set up a business page for your business. NOT a personal profile, but a PAGE.

If you want to really focus on your website for ownership issues, or you just don’t like Facebook, I would still encourage you to have presence on the Face-beast.

Facebook pages show up in Google searches easily and a lot of people will search Facebook BEFORE they Google search.

If you aren’t really on Facebook because you love Instagram more – I would STILL recommend at least having a presence. You will thank me later 🙂

2 Create a website

A website is a business asset. Everyone “Googles it” these days and if you don’t even have a simple one page site you are missing out on customers.

AND if you ONLY have a presence on Facebook you risk putting all of your eggs in one basket.

Having said that, I made $10k in my business before I had a website so it’s not the FIRST step but it is a VERY.IMPORTANT.THING.FOR.EVERY.BUSINESS. So get a website!

3 Fonts

If you aren’t cashed up enough to see a graphic designer and get your branding created professionally I recommend you choose at least 2-3 fonts that you are going to stick to for now.

One heading font

One sub-heading font and

One paragraph/body font

I recomend you check out Canva and find a design in their templates that you like then use the 2-3 fonts on that design.

You can always get professional branding later or change your fonts later. Just don’t change then every week or people won’t be able to develop a visual relationship with your business.

4 Colours

Just like fonts, it’s important to have some visual consistency in your online presence.

From that Canva design you liked, you might be able to choose 1-3 colours to stick with for now.

I recommend Black and White and 1-2 other colours. Even just one colour + black + white. Even just black + white.

Keep it simple for now.

And be consistent.

You can get fancy later when you have more clarity about your business and audience.

Have you heard of SSL?

Do you sometimes get warnings that your website or sites that you are visiting are not secure?

In this blog I’m going to explain a bit about what SSL is and why it’s important for your website and for browsing on the internet in general.

Enjoy!

What is SSL? SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer and is an additional level of security you can place on your site. It basically encrypts and encodes any data that leaves one user and goes to another user.

For example, when you enter your credit card details into a checkout on a website, your information travels through the internet as data. This data gets sent to the business who you are buying from or their payment processing company like PayPal and the like. That is the basis of the internet – data travelling from there to me.

Why do I need SSL? If you don’t have an SSL certificate on your website, users may get a warning that your site is not secure.

This will stop most people from visiting your site.

Sometimes this warning will display very early in the process of your website being built if your developer hasn’t activated your SSL yet. You should get in touch with them and your host to resolve this if it’s displaying once your site is live.

It used to be the case that only businesses who were selling products desired an SSL but nowdays all websites will use SSL to maximise trust with their visitors.

Why does it matter? If you are the website user, it is important that you don’t enter any personal or payment details into a website that doesn’t have an SSL. It is very helpful to know how to check this if your browser doesn’t give you this information (see the video for how to check).

And if you are the website owner, it is essential that your website visitors feel that their data is safe with you or they won’t want to make purchases and they may not even feel safe to visit your site at all!

Do want to chat about your website? I help people create Simple, Beautiful websites. I also love to help people feel empowered about their website so they can use it without having to worry about breaking it!
