The Hammer Of Retribution Ogg-Cast

Metal. And then more metal. Thor would approve.

On 1st May 2009, the first episode of The Hammer Of Retribution Ogg-Cast crawled onto a difficult-to-access community on Livejournal, in equally difficult-to-access Ogg Vorbis format. Exactly ten years later, after three attempts at keeping to a monthly schedule, the recruitment of a German co-host, and an unnerving decline in the mental state of its creator from which recovery is far from assured, this 80th episode marks the point at which the final curtain falls.

But just as Dylan Thomas told us not to go gentle into that good night, this final Ogg-Cast makes sure we will finish with a big bang. Over the course of a seven-part show lasting eight hours and 42 minutes, there will be a glorious celebration of all that is marvellous about the world of epic heathen metal. This will be wrapped around Lennard's final Tunes Of Yore, which to nobody's surprise is his longest ever, as well as three further guest contributions from long-term listeners of the show and general all-round good eggs.

Hope you all enjoyed the ride while it lasted.

PART SEVEN (1:15:46) The last part of the last Ogg-Cast concludes, I bring a tribute to someone very special as well as all my listeners and contributors, and say my final goodbye... with the closing theme in full and the best possible final track to end.

PART SIX: I am left on my own to present eight tracks of the finest and heathenest metal, including two doses of Covered.

PART FIVE: Lennard Kamischke, the co-host of the Ogg-Cast for the last five years, signs off with a 69-minute Tunes Of Yore delivered in three languages. I even hand him the introduction to this part. It's even more varied than you've come to expect.

PART FOUR: Nathan Sturm, author of When Light Fails, the collection of his short horror stories that formed the basis for last year's Ogg-Cast 76, brings his "radio announcer's voice" all the way from Phoenix to introduce six of his favourite tracks by bands who have never before featured on any Ogg-Cast, under the title of Sturm Of The Light's Fail. I present a final Shut It! and some nods towards video game music.

PART THREE: Even-longer-term listener Paul Houlton, not a stranger to making requests in shows of old, takes us on a half-hour journey through the highlights of both the Vinyl Years and the CD Years of his vast music collection, in his Tunes Of The Jurassic Coast - and I return the favour to a couple of one-man projects who have mentioned me in their thanks lists.

PART TWO: Long-term listener and UK black-and-heathen metal aficionado Greg Butler is our first guest with his Tunes Of Derbyshire - and I attempt to fill a couple of gaping holes in his music collection, while also saluting the finest of the UK's black-and-heathen metal bands.

PART ONE: The Ogg-Cast's theme tune gets played in full, and some rousing heathen metal calls to arms - not necessarily by the bands you'd expect - warm us all up for the show to come.
