The girls could not be thankful enough for this interview! Endurance athlete legend, Charlie Engle, joins the ladies to talk about running across the Sahara Desert, ultramarathons, surviving addiction and his newest adventures. The quote below from Charlie’s bio best expresses his nature and the essence of the interview.

I try not to take myself too seriously despite the fact that I undoubtedly take on serious challenges. I love adventure and I am fueled by testing myself to do things that push the far reaches of my ability, both physically and mentally. My chosen endeavors sometimes seem impossible and are often wrought with pain and even failure. Yet I’ve discovered that if I employ humor and laugh in the face of the grimmest of circumstances, I will survive and even enjoy almost anything.

Father, hunter, freediver, instructor John Dornellas speaks to PSP about his recent time in the water collecting megalodon teeth. John dives into a conversation about what it’s like to harvest from the land to provide for his family. Living in both North Carolina and Alaska John and his family enjoy God’s creation both above and under the water.

By using his many gift as a freediving instructor John has helped countless people from the special forces, first response units, and addiction recovery to begin to overcome their PTSD or other afflictions. Through some of his breathold techniques, John exposes the conflicting “animal vs. logical” brain and uses the water as medicine to begin the healing process for his students as well as himself through his journey recovering from the loss of his brother.

They also discuss what it means to be a “project person” and have some debate over whether or not Ashley qualifies.

One opera song, one sing along and four puns later the girls get Mr. Mark to open up about Surf Church. Surf Church, much like the Blues Brothers mission (as Laurel points out) is a mission from God. The mission of Surf Church is to reach surfers with the gospel. The vision, when there are waves, the presence of God through his people, is present in the water.

He starts the injustice of the week by diving off the deep end. They discuss justice vs. grace. Oh yeah, and it was decided that Jesus should taste like juice boxes and donut holes. A different person preaches each week at Surf Church. Catch Laurel preaching at Surf Church on August 8!
