TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Dev

1 Episode

HOW MANY TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ARE THERE? There are four types of artificial intelligence: reactive machines, limited memory, theory of mind and self-awareness.

  1. REACTIVE MACHINES As the name suggests, Reactive Machines simply perceive the world and react to it. They do not function on the basis of past experiences or store ‘memories’. Reactive Machines have been on a high rise in the recent times. One of the best examples is IBM’s Deep Blue, which beat Chess grandmaster Kasporov. It is a reactive machine that sees the pieces on a chess board and reacts accordingly.

  2. Limited Memory Limited Memory machines have the ability to hold some data for a short period. These machines can use this data only for this particular period and cannot add it to a depository of experiences. For instance, self-driving cars use this technology to store information like speed of nearby cars, the speed limit, distance from other vehicles, and other information for a limited time to improve the driving experience.

  3. Theory of Mind It is well-known that all individuals have emotions, memories, thoughts, and mental models upon which they function. The researchers pursuing the Theory of Mind aim to build computers that can imitate our mental models by creating representations about the world. The primary aim of this research is to enable computers to relate to human intelligence and perceive how human emotions change with respect to environment and events. Today, most of the computers work on a model, but a model of the human mind hasn’t been created yet.

  4. Self-Awareness Self-aware machines, for now, exist in science fiction, but it is a popular belief that the ultimate goal of Artificial Intelligence Solutions and Services is the creation of these machines. However, even if a machine can imitate a person by acts like preserving itself, anticipating its own needs and demands, whether or not it can become entirely self-aware or ‘conscious’ is a question best left out for philosophers.
