FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEFRIDAY FEB 7 2025 (Bandcamp Friday / Wildfire Relief)LA is the ESP Institute’s hometown. The label’s captain, Lovefingers, is a native Angeleno who has lived in 15 of its neighborhoods spanning decades. While the ESP Institute was born in 00’s New York City with an international cast of artists, the DNA of the label has always been infused with the wild sense of freedom and space that is LA. It breaks our hearts to see the city and its residents in such a difficult position today. Our home and label’s office were damaged, the grounds incinerated and fire/smoke damage right up and onto it’s walls, and although it is still uninhabitable, we consider ourselves unbelievably fortunate that the structure was spared, surviving among our many neighbors whose homes are reduced to ash. Both the Palisades and Eaton fires have left so many of our friends and family with nothing – we collectively mourn not only for their physical space, much of which is generational, but for mementos of family history, their sense of security and ability to function from a safe sense of “home.” The grief and tasks of recovery are uncharted and ongoing, the rebuilding is daunting, arduous and overwhelming, and everyday brings new challenges in the fires wake. This will take time. If there is any light that we see in this, it is the prevalent sense of community we are witnessing in real time. This is the 15th year of ESP Institute and we had an idea for a compilation planned, but, given the circumstances and the immense needs of our city and fellow Angelenos, we have decided to expand this release to 3x its initial scope and commit all of its efforts and income to wildfire relief organizations. We have initially selected the following vetted non-profit charities: CalFund, MusiCares, GiveDirectly, Global Empowerment Mission, Canine Rescue Club and plan to manually top up funds from circulating GoFundMe spreadsheets for under-represented families, commencing with those in Altadena. We anticipate a bi-weekly dispersal of funds, given the urgent and evolving nature of community needs, but will re-assess this consistently as time passes.ESP’s artists have generously allowed us to present their music for this compilation and our gratitude starts with them. It is our hope the following 90 tracks will bring you something you need, whether it be joy, catharsis, wonder or meditation.Thank you for your support from the bottom our hearts,Andrew / Lovefingers & ESP Institute..[ESP150A]ESP Institute XV - I - ActiveDosage: 30 tracks spanning fifteen years of the label’s work with a focus on physical movement and mental release.Energy level: High.Recommended: Late night / witching hours.[ESP150B]ESP Institute XV - II - PassiveDosage: 30 tracks spanning fifteen years of the label’s work with a focus on ambience, mood control and meditation.Energy level: Low.Recommended: Daytime / sunset / sunrise.[ESP150C]ESP Institute XV - III - UnobtaniumDosage: 30 tracks spanning fifteen years of the label’s work with a focus on unreleased rarities, demos and remixes.Energy level: All over the place.Recommended: For those who know. released February 7, 2025

https://tarteletrecords.bandcamp.com/album/medusozoa-vol-iiiIn a now annual tradition, Tartelet leans into the introspective mood of the winter months with its third compilation of downtempo and ambient titles. The artists involved on this 24-track collection include recent frontliners as well as long-standing extended family and breakthrough talents.Medusozoa Vol III offers a perfect opportunity to dig into the dimensions of the label not defined by a dancefloor beat. Here, low-slung hip-hop and RnB can sit alongside beatless reveries, head-nodding dub meditations, and nimble, meandering jazz funk alike. If there was ever a question whether the label promotes a broad church of music, here it is in abundance. The trip begins with long-time Tartelet alumni Max Graef, who makes two appearances on Medusozoa Vol III in his now signature woozy style interspersed with artful sampling. Doc Sleep follows up on her debut solo with a gorgeous foray into submerged, dubby shimmers, and Oakland-based psych-soul star ABUNAI links back up with kissingpractice for another dose of heart-on-sleeve song craft.Copenhagen-based artist Lord of the Magi takes us on a mesmerising ride of ‘60s psychedelia, perfectly extending his sound nurtured on the Soul Exchange record. And Later Version, a collaboration from Oakland duo DJML and Jerod S. Rivera, sink into an analogue bubble bath of electronic and acoustic sonics. Athlete Whippet’s accomplished, soul-informed sound slips in perfectly, adding a warm, laid back funk to the mix. While label mainstay Nelson of the East drops a surprise hit sure to get a mass of bodies moving, Space Ghost returns for another blissfully beatless excursion that’s all killer, no filler. Tartelet wizard Glenn Astro also continues to shape out his distinctive path through modern beat constructions and edgy synth snaps.Fresh label debuts include Mr. Beatnick, who lays down a sumptuous slice of cosmic downtempo boogie, while London-based producer DrumTalk brings his signature deft drum programming mood. Ciel also makes a first appearance on the label with her signature backroom dreamscapes and shimmering, tripped-out style. With its rich tapestry of mellow sounds to melt into, Medusozoa Vol III offers both a soothing backdrop and something mentally nourishing to fix your mind’s ear on. creditsreleases December 8, 20232023, Tartelet Records

https://paralaxe-editions.bandcamp.com/album/for-palestineBright Light is part of a 64-artist compilation on Paralaxe Editions with all proceeds going to Médecins Sans Frontières. This charity has been chosen as the benefactor as Paralaxe is not only familiar with their mission statement and field work, but many of their medical colleagues have directly worked with the organisation in different locations around the globe. MSF currently has doctors and staff on the ground in Gaza, and they are actively working to treat patients and get desperately needed supplies across the border. On top of the music, Paralaxe also teamed up with Oficina de Disseny to create a special print. Printed at L'automatica in Barcelona as part of a collective printing effort, 600 posters were produced in total, though a majority have been (and will continue to be) distributed freely at protests in Barcelona. My guest on Jacktone Radio #57 is up and coming Oakland by way of Minneapolis producer, @burnet207. Since I first heard his music randomly on SC about 4 months ago, I've been hooked. This new mix features originals and collaborations recorded on a recent trip back to Minneapolis. The tracks swing from electro and IDM to leftfield experiments and glitches. I hope you like his music as much as I do - you'll also be seeing more from burnet207 and @jacktonerecords in 2016.

San Francisco native Melissa (Doc Sleep) met Ninja Tune affiliate Konstantin (@glenn-astro) after she moved to Berlin and teamed up with Konstantin for a Hypno Discs release on her label, Jacktone. Following this, the two collaborated for a set of three Motoko & Myers remixes on Future Times. The pair continued to work together, and Beats Unlimited is the result of a couple of years of connective alliance during the period of global isolation.

The mini-album is an organic dub-infused modern reinterpretation of circa-2000 electro-acoustic minimal techno and microhouse. Empty space plays just as much crucial importance in the mix as the intricate percussive pieces and crystalline melodic elements. The circuit-bent rhythmic manipulations and textural imperfections add additional warmth and a 3D sense of depth. There is a clear singular sound with this release, and the moments of warped introspective late-night narcosis sit comfortably alongside the raw glass-techno slammers packed to the brim of slow-release dancefloor energy.

Think along the lines of Aoki Takamasa, Akufen, To Rococo Rot, and Matmos & Matthew Herbert's work on Vespertine, etc., captured through the lens of Kassem Mosse and Shackleton, re-programmed on an MPC, and then run through guitar pedals. We really fucking like it and think you will too!

"A deep and sumptuous trip" - Bandcloud

"Combining Astro's love of textures with Doc Sleep's punchy club manoeuvres, it features jerky drums cutting through layers of static while floaty synths rise and fall in the background." - RA review of 'Chrome Loops' ra.co/reviews/34130

"The joint effort on Beats Unlimited produces a collection of entirely provoking and innovative pieces of loopy techno and dubbed out propulsive IDM. The sonic aesthetics of the album fuse influences from microhouse and minimal techno motifs, synthesized into texturally rich and times out right weird interpretations of club music." The Playground

Doc Sleep's latest EP, "Your Ruling Planet,” debuts on her own label, Jacktone.

The EP is her 3rd overall and 1st on her home label. Working through moods and atmosphere across several genres, the EP is also her most introspective.

Thematically, the tracks act as both soundtrack and narrative signposts through a maze of hazy memories, self-created mythologies and realities. Instruments and samples were chosen intentionally to support the larger themes, each carrying a weight of familiarity and meaning. Rather than working to execute functional peak time tools, the goal was to create a universe of personal meaning and significance.

The artwork is by the Sonja of Labareda, mastering by Joao Melo/Mind Safari.

All proceeds from this compilation will be divided between a host of aid groups via ActBlue, selected by the artists: secure.actblue.com/donate/ab_mn

Motoko & Myers are back on FT with a surprise remix album, stretching their Plover b/w Whimbrel 7” (FT052) into 14 tracks by handing over the binoculars to a host of remixers.

“Plover” in particular is taken to techno heights only hinted at in the original by many of the producers, its beautiful melody acting like pure dance information, moldable into shape. Perko, Unknown Mobile and Davis Galvin get super busy with it for all the deejays, Doc Sleep & Glenn Astro (collaborating together) encase the collection in a 3-song suite of a remix, Ali Berger houses it down, Category goes off the dub deep end, and Flora FM goes full Dave Angel ravelife in amazing fashion.

The drowsier “Whimbrel” gets shlazed, low-slung mixes from TMC and Jack Murphy as well as breaksplorations from Gag Reflex and DJML. Bass Clef combines both songs for a complete trip.

A major pack, and survey of some of our music’s finest new producers too. Tip!

Tip!

I contributed to Roche's new record label, AGIYNI, with "We Left At Dawn", a dystopian rave jammer from 2014 with layered pads, MiniBrute textures and a snappin open hi hat punctuating throughout. The track is accompanied by two incredible remixes from the guy himself, Roche.

Roche's Far West Remix features pitched down pads, a simple driving acid bass line and many layers of percussion. It's somewhat reminiscent of sci-fi electro but more washed out. Roche's Zen Center Remix is a more contemplative, long foggy night drive through the city and into the woods, kind of track. An ode to smoking joints and listening to youtube playlists curated by Bleie on a barely visible Highway 1. IT IS EPIC, tbh.

Montreal's CMD (@c-m-d) is the latest guest on Jacktone Radio and she turned in one of my favorite mixes we've ever had on the show.

CMD (@cyan-dj) has a long-running bi-monthly radio show, modular_systems that explores the darker, outer reaches of techno. She also produces house and techno, with releases on Fur Trade, basic_sounds, Low Noise Productions and self-released on Bandcamp. In December, she contributed a beautiful remix to Experimental Housewife's Neversummer EP we released, and this Spring, she will release her own EP on Jacktone (!!). She has more releases prepped for 2017, and is working on a hardware live PA, so keep an eye on her website for updates: traktion.com.

This mix is expertly-sequenced from the get-go, hope you enjoy it. Oh, and, book her to come play your party!

Jacktone Radio #78 features 2/3 of Cleveland's In Training crew (@in-training): Kiernan Laveaux (@kiernan-laveaux) & Father of Two (@fatheroftwo). In their own words, "In Training is a monthly gathering space for people who feel disenfranchised from the mainstream gay club scene and the assimilationist values which homogenize and erase our art and culture. We play various genres of electronic music, specializing in body music such as techno, house, industrial, etc. We are setting up our own spaces and alternatives that promote a celebration of queerness through sound, video, art and music. We are committed to a safe, inclusive, consensual and positive space where people can be who they are without fear of being excluded."

The mix is just shy of 2 hours and provides a glimpse into the beautiful world In Training has created over the past few years. The residents move in and out of genres, moods and textures with ease - the journey is well worth it.

Thanks to Kiernan and Father of Two for being on the show!

For Jacktone Radio #77, my guest is Arturo Lopez, who helms the lovely Art and Artifice mix series. From the first moment I heard the mix, I loved it (and not just because he included a Jacktone artist) - varied, yet perfectly seamless in sound and intent.

In his own words:

"I thought it would be interesting to take a step back from my Techno oriented mixes and explore a range of 70s and 80s synth sounds and moods. Smooth, rough, mellow, angry, even a bit of cheese. We're hitting everything from haunting devotional Krishna music to synth pioneer Patrick Cowley's instrumental soundtracks for 80's gay porn films. We make a few Italian New Wave pit stops along the way along with modern takes on telephone hold muzak and other oddities. Hope you enjoy!"

Arturo works with several talented people curating the Art and Artifice mix series, showcasing a wide range of international selectors of Techno, House, Italo, and Ambient flavors. You can check it out at: http://www.art-and-artifice.com/

Our most recent @jacktonerecords artist, the talented James Marrs (@jamesmarrs) from London, comes correct with this beautiful experimental mix. James has an ear for the dark arts, and this mix explores a vast spectrum, but, doesn't lose focus. Like his release with us and on earlier on Syncom Data, the occasional manipulated vocal sample makes an appearance, as well as distorted drums and bass, complex percussion and off-kilter melodies. Highly recommend this one, as well as his productions! Also, check out his label, Laura Lies In (@laura-lies-in). TIP

My guest this week is Oakland producer, @vidiian. If you follow the label at all, you will be hearing a lot more about this guy in the next few months.

Although he's only self-released up to this point, Vidiian has already mastered his craft and is making intricate, layered and melodic techno, acid and breaks. He has two releases coming out on Jacktone this year, the first is an 11-track album called "Spatial Relations", coming out in the Fall and although the styles of the album are varied (read above), there is a common thread of beautiful experimentation throughout.

His vinyl mix for us showcases his range of influences - from broken beat-oriented tracks to dark techno, acid and ambient. We're so excited to share his music with everyone and I hope you enjoy the mix.

The homies of Machine Funk Savantage (@machinefunksavantage) are the latest guests on Jacktone Radio!

The DJ crew from Germany has a successful YT channel that's pretty much my go-to spot for quality new music (seems like 2000+ other people agree). MFS and their community have been extremely supportive of Jacktone and I couldn't wait to have them on the show. Their mix is unique and driving dark techno, it's eclectic, but, not so much so that it disregards the journey. Ace mix, thanks, boys!

Always Human Tapes out of Minneapolis/Denver, is one of the more exciting labels in the states right now. Though they don't release one specific electronic genre, there is a common thread to the releases, giving the label a distinct sound spread across their 50+ releases (they've only started in 2013!).

The releases have inked reviews in revered spotssuch as The Quietus, and Inverted Audio, with support and plays from Karen Gwyer and the always-quality Truants podcast.

The AHT crew is at least 3-strong at the moment (Ryan Wurst aka Yellow Hyper Balls, @heckadecimal, and TML aka @toomuchlove). They've all released on the label and are active DJs and promoters in Minneapolis and Denver.

This 90ish minute mix features all releases from the AHT back catalog. It's weird, dark, interesting and very well done.

Thanks to AHT, this mix will also be available as a physical mixtape that Jacktone will be giving away with upcoming orders on our Bandcamp page (jacktonerecords.com).

For this week's Jacktone Radio #65, I have an excellent mix from veteran PDX selector, Sappho (@sappho-presents-chingo) of Stranger Disco & Hard Yes. The hour mix expertly weaves disco, obscure dark synth, jackin house and leftfield psychedelic experiments - a perfect fit for IFM.

Sappho began her journey into the world of techno music in 1991 when she attended her first rave in Dallas. Throughout the 90s, you could find her scouring record bins looking for gems and in front of the speakers at events from Portland to Vancouver BC. Armed with her music collection, in 1999, Sappho made the jump from dancing party-goer to DJ. She’s a vinyl lover that always brings her love of forward thinking music to the dance floor.

Kemek has been kicking around the electronic music scene since the early '90s. His first releases were on Silent Records, the legendary San Francisco ambient label, as part of The 303 Terrorists. Three full-length Deeper Than Space albums followed. In 2001 Kemek got back into music production, this time as Kemek the Dope Computer, releasing a string of nu-skool breaks 12" singles and remixes.

In 2015, Kemek released an excellent spacy motorik 7" under his Dechirico alias on our own @jacktonerecords. You can listen and purchase at jacktonerecords.com

Ryan Scannura and his 10+ Deep Club (@deepclubdenver) crew are coming into their own. Glenna Fitch aka sold (@soldchicago) started DJing in NE Ohio 8 years ago with her club night, Hot Knees. She later moved to Denver, where she helped establish such residencies as Deep Club (2 current DC residents were guests on Jacktone Radio #60 - Ponyrok & Lone Dancer). She was most recently added as a resident DJ to the Chicago institution, Hugo Ball (@hugoball312), after a year of volunteering with promotion and installations. Glenna is also a collage artist and those aesthetic principles seep into her selecting style.

Glenna's mix is perfect for Intergalactic FM - it's compelling and deep in its scope - with tracks that fit very well together, sometimes unexpectedly.

This week's guest on Jacktone Radio #59 is none other than Masha (@maashaa) of Dig Deeper (@digdeeperla). If you follow the show, you may remember a few weeks ago, I had the OTHER half of Dig Deeper, Alison Swing (@alisonswing)on Jacktone Radio #56. Both mixes have been excellent and you can see why so many people are drawn to the vibe set by these two at their Dig Deeper events. Masha and Alison's sound complement one another very well, yet they both remain unique selectors. Masha moves through lot of territory in this mix, from jackin' and classic-sounding house with warm analog pads to spaced out and dark leftfield experiments - they all work together and propel you along as she weaves in and out of genres and moods seamlessly.

Since the inception of the Dig Deeper parties only a year ago, the two have hosted DJ Sprinkles, The Black Madonna, Eamon and Justin of Mister Saturday Night, Lone, Heidi Lawden, Axel Boman, Suzanne Kraft, Magic Touch, Tom Trago, and Lovefingers. They've held events in warehouses, clubs and on hotel rooftops, fitting the lineup with its appropriate atmosphere - they pay attention to the details, not only with the location and decor, but, most notably with their DJ sets.

The next Dig Deeper is 12/19 with guest, Tom Trago.

I first met @tonyfairchild when I played Columbus in 2014 (at the venue I will never forget due to secret intel that informed me the club was formerly a lesbian bar that used to hold hermit crab races). I was immediately struck by his seamless and "like butter" vinyl mixing and excellent track selection - it was a pro-level warm-up set. Since then, I've been following the success of his Midwest Fresh marathon parties and the Grey Area event space. It's no secret the Columbus scene is rich with talent and these events continue the city's longtime vibe of keeping it truly underground and HAM. Tony recently made the move to Pittsburgh and trust that you will be hearing A LOT more from this guy in the coming years.

This mix is a stunner and covers all of my favorite things, moving between genres and vibes with amazing nrg: acid, deep dubby filter-sweep techno, classic vocal house, breaks, darkwave and so on.

Go find him in Columbus & Pittsburgh!

Jacktone Radio #57 is a mix of recent originals and collaborations from up and coming @burnet207 of Oakland. burnet207's experiments are interesting and fresh, and this mix - although short & sweet - covers everything from IDM to classic electro, ambient to glitch.

I'm a huge fan of this guy and his music, you'll be hearing more from him and Jacktone Records in 2016.

Anyone following the LA scene the past year has taken note of Dig Deeper (@digdeeperla). The party is thrown by two excellent DJs - Alison Swing (@alisonswing) and Masha Martinovic(@maashaa) - and since the party's inception (did I mention - only a year ago!) have hosted DJ Sprinkles, The Black Madonna, Eamon and Justin of Mister Saturday Night, Lone, Heidi Lawden, Axel Boman, Suzanne Kraft, Magic Touch and Lovefingers. They've held their events in warehouses, clubs and on hotel rooftops, fitting the lineup with its appropriate atmosphere - with location, decor and their notable opening sets.

For Jacktone Radio #56, 1/2 of Dig Deeper - Alison Swing - gives us a vinyl mix of bumpin' first-rate house - moving from current to classic - and a taste of the excellent music you'll find at their events - enjoy!

Jacktone Radio #55 features an impressive live set of unreleased jams from Nackt (@nacktmusic) & CM-4 (@cm-4). Both are residents of Outpost (@outpost-sf) in SF, and Nackt is fresh off his well-received 100% Silk cassette, Virex, with much knob twiddling from CM-4 throughout.

In this 30ish-min live set, they move from a more upbeat house jam feel to a darker, more complex acid vibe. It all fits together perfectly and flows really well - in short, it's a great listen. Surprisingly, this is the duo's first few months performing live sets out in the world, can't wait to hear what's next.

Jacktone Radio #54 features recent PDX (by-way-of SF) resident, David Sylvester (@davidsylvester). David is a DJ and producer, co-owner of Friends with Benefits Records (@fwbrecords)and 1/2 of Two Dudes in Love (@twodudesinlove).

David and I DJ'd on the same bills and danced together through the years in SF, comparing notes on favorite tracks and artists. He has always been extremely passionate, knowledgeable and a talent who is ready to find his true voice.

This fantastic mix shows his darker, edgier, techno side, with tracks like "Switchblade" by Matrixxman, EQD's "10" from Equalized #111, and the Trus'Me remix of Pastaboys' Musique.

For Jacktone Radio #53, we have Rachel Aiello (@rachel-aiello) of VX. I have great respect for Rachel and the work she does in the Bay Area techno scene, not only through the thoughtful curation of the VX events, which bring artists such as Regis, Shifted, and Civil Duty to the West Coast, but, also her compelling DJ sets and burgeoning music projects.

When I approached Rachel about the idea of recording a mix with Halloween in mind ("Halloween adjacent", let's call it), she didn't hesitate, nor did she fail to deliver. Not only does the mix provide a great soundtrack for what some of us think of as the best week of the year, but it provides perfect context for VX, and, shows off Rachel's depth of knowledge and excellent programming skills.

This 2-hr mix is a dark and noisy, sometimes (in)tense, consistently beautiful journey through the industrial and experimental edges of ambient and techno. You will hear tracks and experiments from CHRA, Roly Porter, GREBENSTEIN, Peder Mannerfelt, Vainio & Vigroux, Alexander Lewis, Alberich, and OAKE.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

For those in California, the next VX event is Friday, Oct 30 and features a live set from Civil Duty: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?756266

One of my most frequent and interesting guests, @dreamlogicc, returns for Jacktone Radio #52. Never content to rehash old material, dreamlogicc is constantly updating his live sets, experimenting with bpm, percussion, texture, and genre.

For episode 52, he has given us 2 hours of live improv recorded at his beautiful Oakland studio, Main Drain.

You can hear dreamlogicc live PA's or djing as dj lgcc on his weekly Saturday livestream, Wax n Cats. You can also hear dreamlogicc releases on his own label, Main Drain, as well as on Chicago's Kimochi Sound.

"Here’s an absolutely hypnotic track by Doc Sleep, titled “Jim_J.” It’s a deep techno thumper that lets all of the pieces roll out in a seemingly suspended slow-motion. A dark bassline rolls as a kick slowly lifts out of the murk and is followed, in due time, by other hushed elements. Hisses and thunks bounce through the mix, while peripherally emotive synths chime. Even at its full capacity, this track stays like a whisper in the wind. And yet, even this stripped-down, all of the elements have a catchy feel to them, giving the whole thing a very body-moving vibe. If you’re looking for music to play at the party after the after-party, this sure is it." - Insomniac https://www.insomniac.com/media/5-rhythmic-dance-tracks-scuba-cut-hands-doc-sleep-savage-grounds-and-lee-gamble/3
