One thing we want to figure out to help victims of sexual assault is who are the assaulters. It is difficult to say what someone else is thinking especially when they are doing something so heinous. But it happens frequently; every 73 seconds an American is sexually assaulted but only half a percent of perpetrators get prison time. Sixty percent of all sexual assault experienced by inmates are not from other inmates but rather prison or jail staff. People commit sexual assault in parties or at bars, public or private. But why? Rape perpetrators that were compared to both sexual assault perpetrators and non-perpetrators reported lower levels of agreeableness and conscientiousness. Also showed lower levels of extraversion when compared to non-perpetrators. Rape perpetrators also exposed lower levels of tender mindedness, excitement-seeking, warmth, positive emotions, feelings, altruism, competence, and dutifulness, and higher levels of vulnerability. This shows how rapists' actions reflect their personalities. They are hypocrites. Despite what you might think, overall personality level variations of sexual assault perpetrators were remarkably similar to non-perpetrators than rape perpetrators. Meaning that people who commit sexual assault act similar to people who don’t and act different from rapists. Sexual acts and assault link so well because the similar undertone they have. They both involve the same hormones. There’s been links to over stimulated sexualities and violence.
