We are basically just going to be having regular conversations about books, shows, mental health and the weird social norms and traditions we grew up with. Dear Coconuts

This has been a year for the books, in this new dystopian world we were currently living in, we had been reeling from the after effects of the first few waves of Coronavirus only to find out that its still mutating and we may have another lockdown. Went through environmental crises, important pop culture moments and so much more. Through it all, with all the noise outside we all did the best we could, spent time learning about ourselves such as the fact that we are stronger than we thought. Here's to hoping that 2022 will be a bit more gentle on our souls and on the planet!

It is a truth universally known that Meral is obsessed with The Umbrella Academy. In this episode, we talk about everything we loved about the show in its Netflix production of Season 1. Needless to say, this episode is sprinkled with spoilers so if you have not watched the season yet, do not listen to this! Gerard Way's comic book series has touched upon themes that tug on our adult heartstrings and this show is the perfect amount of chaos, cynism, love, and heroism!

Dear Coconuts,

In this episode, we discuss the painfully heartbreaking story of a woman who faced many difficulties in her life but managed to maintain her dignity through it all. In Khaled Hosseini's A thousand Splendid Suns we are introduced to Marium, who has a stoic personality that shows us we can face anything and no matter how hard it gets always persevere. Khaled Hosseini also shows us the beauty of a war-ravaged Afghanistan, the colors of the country, the strength of the common man and women, and the overall resilience of the people. It's a gorgeously written book and we recommend it to all our coconuts!

Dear Coconuts,

Mean Girls in its time was revolutionary, but what no one could have predicted was how important it will continue you be in the future. This movie not only shows us the cruel face of narcissism but also allowing us to appreciate how multidimensional humans really are. When you're young you are quick to see Regina as the main antagonist but as we get older we can appreciate that she was a victim of her circumstances too, with a superficial and childish mother, and a lot of pent-up anger. We are also able to appreciate some of the similar manipulation tactics used by Regina by Janice too. Overall, this movie was groundbreaking, providing a generation with amazing quotes such as "OMG Karen you can't just ask people why they're white"! LOL! The movie shows us what can happen if women work against each other, and how different it would be if they came together and didn't try to tear each other down. There would be peace.

PS. Check out Meral being very passive-aggressive over her drain water iced coffee.

We had an absolute blast watching Bo Burnham’s Inside. It’s on Netflix! Give it a look see and tell us what you think! In this episode we share our take on Bo’s insight of the world! One of the things we really learnt was that we don't have to have opinions about everything under the sun nor should we demand opinions from 'our influencers' because at the end of the day we are all students.

Hey Coconuts,

Recording this episode was a lot of fun, we went down a wormhole of how authentic inside out is to the actual way us humans see the world, and how our brains work. We had a chance to revisit our love for the star of the movie "Bing Bong", and our own imaginary friends whom we may have forgotten. This movie has reconfirmed the concept of toxic positivity for us. To live a good and content life you should be able to feel all emotions and acknowledge them, even if that means having a good cry from time to time. That will only make you appreciate Joy more.

Hey Coconuts,

There were just so many things we wanted to talk about that we ended up talking about everything. Hopefully the time stamps will help here lol. As we bring Ramadan to a close and celebrate Eid we discussed how the month was for us overall, the few distractions that we had while fasting namely Neflix and the News. We talk about Seaspiracy, an eye opening documentary about the fishing industry ( which could be synonymous with a mafia ). We commented about Disney's movie Soul which was a very cute introspective film about being grateful. And finally for some light hearted comedy we watched Veep which was hilariously quite an accurate juxtaposition of what the US government is actually like.

P.s: Since a lot of things happened during and after Eid we figured this needs a followup, so stay tuned for part 2.

This week we discuss Bollywood's Main Hoon Na, which was not only an instant hit when it first came out in 2004, but managed to continue being successful well into present day. This movie has everything, themes that are still very relevant to society, such as family, loyalty and most importantly love. The movie also revolves around the concept of mending the relationship between Pakistan and India which was awesome to see, and if that hasn't sold you to this movie maybe the insane action sequences that defy all laws of gravity will.

P.S: Anarkali couldn't control her excitement throughout this recording, she's a huge Shahrukh Khan fan too.

We hope you enjoy our discussion on My Sister's Keeper and some of the ethical questions it raised. We loved this book! It opened doors for people to have conversations on very difficult topics such as parenting, emancipation and the cost of love. One of the conclusions we had was that morals do not necessarily always support ethics. In the case of Anna, it was ethical for her to be an organ donor to Kate, but morally it was wrong as it robbed Anna of a life and childhood.

PS. We acknowledge we aren't mothers but we've learnt about different parenting styles from several mediums, to form an educated opinion! LOL. Anarkali played around with Saman's audio by placing her hand on the mic. We should talk to her and file for emancipation!

In this installment we talk about WandaVision! We’re both avid fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! We use references from the movies and comics in our daily lives. Some of the things we really enjoyed that WandaVision did so brilliantly was display the different ways a person can grieve their loss, and how they come to accept their new life, and understand themselves better. Also the writers did a great job writing for vision, some of the statements he made were so profound that it takes more then one watch to appreciate them all.

In this instalment we go over the iconic novel written by Louisa May Alcott in the 1800s. Surprisingly though she managed to capture the trials of womanhood and coming of age so well, that the story still rings true in 2021. In this world we hear the tale of 4 sisters, each in her own way a strong and resilient. We learn about a mother or a matriarch who manages to keep her daughters motivated and humble throughout their lives. A story about brilliant little women.

We took a different turn in our tenth episode. It’s a little tribute to Pakistan in honor of Pakistan Day! We're backkk!!! To the lovely people that are still following us THANK YOU! So we decided to start off with something that is very near and dear to us, and that is the epidemic of body shamming, bullying, and perpetuating impossible narratives about what is considered beautiful. Research has shown that the percentage of young boys and girls, getting cosmetic procedures has sky rocketed, so in this episode we discuss the damaging role that social media, TV and movies play, and the lasting effects it can have, in the form of eating disorders and other mental health illnesses.

P.S The ghost has not left the building, matter in fact it has gotten louder so we decided to name it.. Anarkali and she can be a total pill sometimes so just bear with her. She's opinionated.

In this episode we continue with our theme of February being Black History Month. We take a trip to Harlem '89 to discuss and learn more about the atrocities that befell the Central Park Five now known as the Exonerated Five. Reeling from all of this we also watched Malcolm and Marie thinking it would be a cute story of romance but were shocked to learn that it was one of the most toxic relationships seen on screen. Not going to lie, we are both glad we are self partnered. Also we are being very blunt, the internet in the Middle East was very spastic and has become the bane of this podcast's existence.

Today we take a trip back to the 1960s where interracial marriage was considered a sin and treated like a felony. Last week we spoke of how Atticus's character is an inspiration to generations, but today we want to introduce Richard and Mildred Loving. Their characters and personalities dealt with calamity with a calm approach. Their polite perseverance lead to policy changes impacting not one, not two but 15 states!

We hope you enjoy our discussion on the Loving vs. Virginia case and the acutely accurate movie adaption Loving released in 2016. We also talk about love and how we view it, along with how some of our lovely coconuts define it.

For everyone that knows us, knows that at some point we have tried to get you to read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee! In high school, we were lucky enough to read it alongside our peers with a phenomenal English teacher. The impact of the book has followed us throughout our lives. We hope to recreate some magic with the next edition of Unscripted Musings, and what better time to do this than Black History Month! We hope you guys enjoy diving into Atticus’s mind and everything we loved, appreciated and learnt in Harper Lee’s beautifully crafted masterpiece.

I hope you're ready for a third edition of Saman and Meral's journey. We decided to take a tour of the 1800s to the society of the elites, and check out the Diamond of the First Water or as we know her, Daphne Bridgerton. However, she was not the only sight for sore eyes. Sir Simon was quite a delight to meet and learn from!

Netflix's Bridgerton was not at all a cringe binge but something to enjoy while thinking of how it is relatable even three centuries later.

In this episode we go over the Netflix show Indian Matchmaking, we share some of our own opinions along with some of our personal experiences with this sort of thing. Personally we believe that the matchmaking process has become a rite of passage for South Asian women. This is a relatively heavier episode and might be triggering for some ladies, but just know that you are not alone.
