Alex has recused Adelaide and become the Best Firefighter Ever! 8-year-old Alex in 2012 was diagnosed with a brain tumour and unfortunately lost his sight.With the help of Adelaide his dream became a reality as he rescued his idol Port Adelaide Football Captain Travis Boak and Adelaide Crows Erin Phillips from a fire on the top floor of the iconic Haigh’s Building in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall. On 12 PM Friday, February 23rd, Mix1023’s Jodie & Soda managed to Make Alex's Day with the help of South Australia’s Premier Jay Weatherill, Adelaide’s Lord Mayor, SAPOL, MFS, SA Ambulance, Haigh’s and many more in Adelaide who were willing to help the cause. After four weeks of planning and the help of Adelaide his dream became a reality as he rescued his idol Port Adelaide Football Captain Travis Boak and Adelaide Crows Erin Phillips from a fire on the top floor of the iconic Haigh’s Building in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall. Jodie & Soda catch up with the man behind Mrs Browns Boys Brendan O’Carroll who reveals the cast is made up of entirely his family.“My sisters in it, my daughter-in-law’s in it, son-in-law and my wife’s sister producers it and in fact there’s twenty-two of us on the road and those that of us aren’t related are sleeping together!”O’Carroll also re-lived the moment Musician James Blunt kissed him during a show.“It was a very odd situation, when he came towards me and Mrs Browns started flirting and he started flirting back and then went in for tongue kiss!”“My wife said to me afterwards you must have got a terrible shock! Adelaide Crows forward Tom Lynch announces the news of his third child and reveals his son Kobe also lives the rule ‘take care of your team mates’.Koby started school for the first time and got a little bit confused about the process or ordering from the school canteen.“He found out what the Canteen was so he obviously had no idea, him and his mates thought he’d go up and order a couple of icy poles, when crunch time came and they asked for some money he didn’t have any.”“The next day he rolled into school with a $50 he pulled out of his piggy bank and said ‘boys I got ya’”

He says that behind closed doors on a Cruise Ship are things passengers couldn’t never imagine. “I’ve walked into Cabin inspections and seen things that have scarred me for life” From alcohol, drugs and sex toys being common things people try to smuggle on board some passengers also have some very unusual requests. “We had one guest who would refused to use toilet paper and would order a lot of hand towels instead of using toilet paper”

Dad Phil said it was a visit to their doctor and a referral to Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital where they found out the news that change their lives forever.“They said Alex had a legion on his brain and it’s a large one! It’s about the size of a man’s fist and that’s in all likelihood that’s why he’s lost his vision is the pressure from a tumour that size is immense!”But things are looking up for Alex and the family.“The Chemotherapy and radiation therapy has stunted his growth he is very little for his age but he has started growing again and the results of his last MRI, upshot is that there’s no technical change on the legions they are monitoring so for a physical tumour that is the best possible scenario”Phil has been overwhelmed by the generosity of Mix1023 listeners who heard Alex’s story and wanted to him and the family.As he read a card from Monica & Brad who sent in a $500 donation, he became quite emotional.“I don’t even know what to say…wow! Thank you so much I don’t know what else to say”

Jodie couldn’t believe what Soda brought up in a recent planning meeting when he described what happen when his family decided to go on a relaxing holiday in Bryon Bay.“It was our first ever full family holiday with three children, the five-year-old, the two-year-old and the one-year-old for eighteen days that was 12-14 hours a day non-stop”Soda revealed to Jodie that he found spending so much time with his family extremely hard and eventually was making up excuses to try and escape.“I went through two packets of Aspro clear just inventing migraines so Mrs Soda would give me some peace” “For those people who say you should go on a holiday to Byron Bay because you chill-out and relax well you haven’t been with my three kids!!”

Jodie & Soda surprise Kickstart for Kids founder Ian Steel with special donations from South Australians who want to make sure every kid has breakfast.Phil from Glengowriecalled in during Adelaide’s Breakfast show and donated $1000 to the program with helps school children achieve positive educational and self-esteem outcomes through breakfast, lunch and mentoring programs.
Steel was overwhelmed by the generosity of Mix1023 listeners like Phil willing to support the cause.“Just to open your wallet and your hearts like that means so much”Phil told Jodie & Soda he wanted to donate to help the future generations.“I look at it as paying it forward, these are out future”Mix1023 took donations all morning and announced at 9am SA Time they had raised over $25,000 for Kickstart for Kids. Jodie & Soda speak with Channel 7 Reporter Mark Mooney on an alleged plot by two teenage boys to massacre students and staff at a Riverland high school.Two teenagers a 16-year-old and 18-year-old had allegedly been planning a massacre at a South Australian school using knives and explosives, but their plot was thwarted when fellow students alerted police.Police believe there would have been significant casualties if the attack had gone ahead before the end of the school year. It's believed the pair had been planning the attack since June 1.Mooney says friends and family alerted police that the students were talking about the attack but it’s still not certain on the motive for the plot.“As you can imagine in a country town, that fellow students on Facebook are talking about why they think the kids were going to do this but at this moment we don’t have a confirmed motive”
17-year-old Jake Jureky was born with Spina Bifida, a birth defect affecting the spine and spinal cord and a few years ago he was told some life changing news which led him and his father Jason to start an incredible adventure together. SA Vinnies CEO David Wark tells Jodie & Soda they are opening a Women's Crisis Centre to complement our existing men's shelter and support women with short term, emergency accommodation.Authorities often have no choice but to temporarily house women in motel style accommodation, where many make the decision to return to a dangerous and abusive relationship.Wark hopes the news facility will provide a safe place for women in Adelaide and hopefully will change the behaviour on many returning to unsafe homes. “The statistic is 8 times a woman will leave and go back before they make the hard call I’m out permanently”Located in the Northern Suburbs the centre is a 20 room facility anticipated to accept guests from October 2017 and will be staffed 24 hours, every day of the year. Jodie & Soda speak with Westminster student Abigail Wicks who along with fellow students have won the Year 10 section of the National Maths Talent Quest.Abigail says they used their own research and mathematical formulae to discover if Titanic’s Jack & Rose could have survived the sinking of the historic ship in1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean. “Using maths, we were able to find out if they both could have fit on the door and floated”“We found out if they put both their life jackets under the door they both would have survived” Abigail Wicks, Christy Zhang and Julia Damato from Adelaide’s Westminster School took out the national competition after winning their section of the state-based MASA Junior Secondary Mathematics Enrichment Project Awards.

Comedian Joel Creasey has commented on the difficulties confronting a gay footballer in coming out publicly, after revealing he had a sexual affair with a “bloody good” current AFL player.

Soda has signed up his Dad Dr Phil to do the Adelaide Rally, so he thought they should do a text drive in his V8 Holden on the Collingrove Hillclimb track in the Barossa Valley but it didn’t turn out as planned.Soda drove his Dad around the windy track which left him cursing and eventually wanting to get out of the car… “I don’t think this is a good idea…matter of fact I’m starting to feel a bit crock…I think I’m going to be sick…” Phil explained he’s not very confident in Soda’s driving abilities and eating a ham & cheese toasty plus an hot cholate on the way probably wasn’t the best idea. “My stomach was in my mouth and unfortunately some of it had to come out!!”“On top of that I was crook then for the next 5 hours” Soda & Dr Phil will race in the Adelaide Rally which is a 3-day touring road event held in the Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Barossa and Murray Mallee regions in December. Things got a little heated when Jodie and her husband Greg had a disagreement over directions and reading a map on the way to a friend’s birthday party."I made an epic error or saying that my husband and I had a barney in the car on the way to a 40th birthday party…it was the start of World War III”Jodie explains they had a birthday party in the Belair National Park and things started to go wrong once they entered the park and couldn’t find the Queen Jubilee Pavilion.“It’s like Yellow Stone National Park with Yogi Bear and she hands me a map she said turned left and its pretty straight forward etc. but we ended up getting lost…”“It’s getting increasingly heated and the kids are getting antsy I said pull out I can’t read this map and he keeps driving!”“So we did arrived and this is the worst thing the kids kept asking ‘are we there yet?’, we were late an hour, and Dad goes I don’t know if we’re there yet why don’t you ask maps here to my left she seems to know where we are going!”

Father Chris Williams describes to Jodie & Soda the moment his 15-year-old girl has survived a terrifying encounter with a five-metre shark, which knocked her into the water in front of her family off the coast of Normanville, south of Adelaide.
“She was just squiding and drifted away from us…with no warning this shark has hit the Kayak from underneath the shark has grabbed the end of the Kayak and is attacking it”
“The look on her face and the scream that came out is something you never want to hear from your daughter…your baby”The shark circled and hit the kayak several times but Mr Williams rushed to his daughter's aid, pulling her out of the water with the help of his son Mitchell.
"I just said to Mitch get on your knees and just drag her in and he grabbed her and dragged her own the shark and into the boat" Chris says his daughter was in a state of shock but escaped with only scratches and bruising but he doesn't know how she will not cope without her mobile phone which now lies at the bottom of the ocean.
"She's had her Megaboom speaker and her bloody Iphone out there fishing, cruising along having a good time she's not worried about my fishing rod... having a 15-year-old in your house without an Iphone..."

Jodie & Soda speak with US Woman Devon Bieling who has been labelled the real-life Pat Mullins (Chris Lilley's 'We Can Be Heroes') after rolling across the finish line in a marathon in Washington.
Bieling explained that she collapsed with 11 metres left in the race but she was determined not to get any assistance and get disqualified, she decided to roll, an idea she got from watching Ironman Kona finishers.
"My legs just gave out from underneath me...all I could think about was roll so that's what I did!"
The 30-year-old completed the race in 3:34:02, just under the Boston Marathon qualifying time of 3:35:00. She finished 131st overall and 36th among women.

Jodie & Soda speak with Libby Bell's uncle Clint Gow-Smith on the push to create a bullying- specific law that would put serious offenders behind bars for up to 10 years.
The legislation dubbed "Libby's Law" was prompted by the suicide of 13-year-old Seaford Secondary College student Libby Bell, who was bullied online and at school.
The Year 8 student died on August 28 after enduring what her family alleges was years of cyber bullying over Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
She was also subject to physical abuse from peers, including at a Seaford fast food outlet last year when she was filmed having a drink poured over her.
Clint's advice to anyone experiencing bullying or witnessing it: "Speak up! Stop the car and speak with Mum & Dad don't brush it off...it's as simple as having a fall out with a friend or ending up at their funeral.. kids needs to understand that's what's at stake"

Jodie sits down one on one with Mother Kirsty who experienced Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) when her daughter Kensi passed away the day before she was to turn 10months old.
SIDS and Kids is dedicated to saving the lives or babies and children, they currently host 'Safe Sleep' information sessions for new and expectant parents.
Since the introduction of these sessions in the late 90s the incidence of SIDS has reduced by over 80%.

In an exclusive interview the 22-year-old South Australian describes her life inside the prison where she has been held since being arrested a month ago and charged with trying to smuggle 5.8kg of cocaine from Colombia.
She told Blake she feels there is no security in the jail and she doesn't feel safe from her fellow prisoners.
"I got the sense she enjoyed the phone call and think she was quite happy to chat with an Australian... she's quite naïve as well as being quite young"
Blake spent days calling the Bogota prison in hope to speak with Cassie who was happy to talk with the US Correspondent as long as it wasn't about the case and didn't let know if she would plead guilty or not.

Adelaide forward Tom Lynch will have concussion test on Friday ahead of AFL clash with Melbourne but he told Jodie & Soda he's confident he will pass and play this weekend.

Brisbane man Glen Norris was hoping to buy a bottle of red wine for a family BBQ on the weekend and was refused service because his 8 year old son put the bottle on the counter.
"I shop with my 8-year-old son all the time and i handed the bottle to him and as he put it on the counter the woman serving looked at me like i was giving cocaine to a baby!"
When Mr Norris offered to take the bottle back, get a new one and place it on the shelf himself, she informed him that she would not be able to serve him for the rest of the day as he could be buying it for my son.
It seems Mr Norris's incident is one of many across Australia as Jodie & Soda hear from South Australians who have similar situations when purchasing alcohol.

Jodie & Soda speak with Channel 10 Reporter Pheobe Bowden on Hindley Street as a man who allegedly threatened a three-year-old girl with a firearm after abducting her, along with a woman and another child, has been shot by police in the Adelaide CBD.
South Australian police said just before 9:00pm yesterday the 26-year-old man abducted a 23-year-old woman, the three-year-old girl and a seven-month-old boy from Cumberland Park.
Officers spotted the car, with all four inside, travelling on Marion Road in South Plympton at 10:20pm and it was tracked by the police helicopter to Port Adelaide.
The car's tyres were spiked at the intersection of Grand Junction and South Road but the car kept going into the city via North East Road, along Rundle Mall and into Hindley Street.
Jodie & Soda have been helping the South Australia's Brigg Family after mother of two Kerry has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and is now in Palliative care.

David's wife Kerry, at just 32 she was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer.
With the support of her amazing husband David, her loving sensitive boy Lachlan who was only 3 and her beautiful cheeky girl Caitlin just 10 months at the time, she has endured over 12 months of chemo, radiation, intravenous therapy and hormonal therapy. She also had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery resulting in 6 surgeries in 3 years.
