Have we yet learned the lessons around Civil Rights? Can we move beyond compliance to legislation? And, what about that ~70% defined as "White" in this nation? When will we change, dismantle even, this notion that the U.S. is 70% White with the next highest percentage of cultural, "racial" groups being set at about 14%? In this episode, I share some of the lessons that I have learned around Civil Rights--having been educated in a school system where 1 or 2 teachers and/or staff looked like me and later learning that leaders of organizations (corporate and non-profit alike) operate in ways that continue to perpetuate the status quo. And, that behavior that holds on to a minimum standard of compliance is rooted in one key factor: Identity.

Who really wants to be a diversity statistic? Well, many have been in that position, and they have excelled in their work! In this episode, we'll reflect on a lesson I learned, that wasn't so good: an organization is diverse if they have just one person. Just one? In an organization or corporation we can ask: Who is valued? Who has a voice? Why are some efforts sustained, while others are not? In this episode, we will look at issues around sustainability from a practical standpoint. With varied meanings of sustainability, we will cover brief definitions. In this episode, I introduce the topics I'll be covering from a professional and personal perspective. I have been accused of being a teacher and of being a preacher in workplace settings--and they were right. But, as a learner, I'm always looking for the lesson.
