ACA is a program for Adult Children of Alcoholics. We meet to share the experience we had as children growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional home. We Find Freedom from the Effects of alcoholism and other family dysfunction.
Learning to Love ourselves is Key to Recovery of Adult child issues & traits...getting in touch with my Inner children & reparenting them is essential for integration of my True Self
Adult Children start the Journey to Finding the True Self by sharing their Truth & not being disloyal to themselves.
With reparenting, we integrate the Steps, our Inner Child, & Our Higher Power into our daily lives. With our loving parent we stop harming ourselves.
Getting in touch with your inner child to know her/him to gain trust before you can make amends to that litle child. Releasing trauma bonds & living in the Solution.
We were born with Original Trust & love. Adult Children recover the joy & spontaneity of being whole. There is trust, love & warmth.
As we become more our true selves with support of our fellow travelers & our Higher Power we find the miracles of the Promises.
Becoming your True Self is such a gift we give to ourself & our important relationships.
The ACA shows us another way to live. We cannot fix ourselves. We need to work the Steps in order.
"Unprocessed Grief from our childhoods and our ancestors childhoods, can put us in a state of perpetual mourning" In ACA, we uncover the roots of our grief. ACA teaches us how to Stop the Grief cycle & become our own Loving parents." SMR p 257

"Our Family Diagram helps us see that the way we talk, dress, walk, and smile may also belong to people from our past." This helps us decide what we want to keep or what coping mechanisms that we can let Go of that are no longer working for us." SMR p 263
"We ask the Adult Child considering ACA to look at the program as a Way of Life that will unfold over time ,bringing rich rewards of emotional relief and self acceptance. BRB p 95

"Abandonment means more than being left alone or left at a doorstep" Shame & abandonment are two of most identifiable traits of a dysfunctional home.
As an adult child we learn from Childhood -Don't talk, Not to feel, Don't stand up for yourself ..ACA teaches us to become aware & take care of ourselves
Becoming Your Own Loving Parent affirms we do have worth & begins changing the way we see ourselves
In ACA, we believe that the family dysfunction affects the adult child in body, mind & spirit long after the adult has left the family of origin.
True emotional sobriety brings a connectedness to ourselves & others. This connectedness in relationships is characterized by expressed feelings, trust, mutual respect, and an acknowledgement that a Higher Power is real
Emotional Sobriety is measured by the freedom we gain by abstaining from acting out on the Laundry List traits.
