So time has passed and they are still here, sort of. The gang (this time consisting of just Ryan and Andrew) take a moment to let their loyal listeners know what has become of their beloved “This Should Be A Podcast”. Let’s just say it ain’t pretty. But fear not as the guys do come bearing gifts. An episode that has been in the tsbaPocast vault since 2015.

Congratulations Marcus!

Back in episode 50 the gang had the privilege of talking with Marcus Amaker about becoming Charleston’s first Poet Laureate, but in order to allow the news to be properly released to the public they held back on that portion of the interview, until now. So please enjoy this bonus episode of Marcus speaking about becoming the Poet Laureate of the City of Charleston, South Carolina.

1 year. Not too shabby. The gang (and the public) get together to celebrate one full year of podcasting! They kick off the festivities with a sit down interview of Gavin Lyons, co-owner of both The Oak Barrel Tavern in West Ashley and The Drop Inn Bar and Deli on Folly Beach. Gavin tells of how years of roaming the countryside working in food and bev led to developing one of the top beer bars in the country.

Then things really get cooking with a full-on party at The Oak Barrel, where the gang interviews former guests, current fans and future contributors to the Lowcountry (we’re talking about you Baby Finn).

So sit back and relax and forgive the less than ideal sound quality (we were recording in a tavern with a room full of party-goers after all) and enjoy the show!

This week the gang hangs out with Charleston poet, artist, performer and all around amazing human being, Marcus Amaker. The crew gets some insight into the creative process of one of Charleston’s most creative minds. They discuss the importance of quieting the mind so you can present work with passion. And when that doesn’t work bourbon always helps.

They then shift the gears to talk about Charleston’s grand arts festival named for our Sister City in Italy, the Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto. Liz and Ryan share a scant few of the hot ticket events to checkout while the festival runs from May 27th to June 12th.

So once again sit back, relax, turn the lights down to a nice low level, light some candles, maybe some incense, and listen to episode 50 of This Should Be A Podcast.
