Every time you buy cookies, you eat them all.

I totally get it. I used to feel that way too. And then I started implementing the principles I am going to teach you today.

A lot of women think that they want to be the weight they were in high school. Or they have some other random number they think they should be. But holding that number as the most important thing can really mess up how you approach your meals.

I want to help you define what actually IS important to you when it comes to food and your body. I hold the belief that YOU were put on this planet for more than to be obsessed with your body and with food. You were put here to create something amazing and help others, and you can only do that if your time and energy is spent on creating that thing. Not being obsessed with food.

Yes, you need to eat healthy to energize yourself, but no, you don't have to be obsessed with food to be healthy.

Lots of people own fitness trackers and don’t use them. They’re fun! I have one! But the novelty does wear off... If you really want to change your life, figure out your pain, pleasure, and aspirational identity and then do a habit that supports that identity. A habit you can actually do every day. Example: "I am tired of feeling lethargic and discouraged with myself. I'd like to feel energized and pleased with myself. I want to be a consistently active person. A consistently active person goes on walks every day. I will go on a walk every day- even though I live in Chicago and it's super gross outside, I will bundle up and go for a 5 minute walk. Wow. I will do again tomorrow. Ok today is warmer- I can do 30 minutes. Wow. I did it. Again. And again. Wow, I guess I really AM a consistently active person. Ok great! Keep it going! Now this is just who I am and I don't even need to track this anymore...." The fitness tracker is just some fun data. Owning one won't make you an active person. Lots of inactive people own fitness trackers and don't do anything. (Been there!) Lots of active people do not own fitness trackers but still do active things. (Been there too!) ----->You showing up and consistently doing the thing and BEING the person is what transforms your life and who you’re being. A narrative.   The story is: "I have to be perfect or I am shit." It's the all/nothing mindset.    Let's overcome that mindset. Let's rewrite that story.   Lemme know below what you're going to do or send me an email coachjaclyn@jaclynricchio.com   Grab the ol' 365 Habit Tracker: https://bit.ly/the365HabitTracker

Answering your questions----> "How many habits should we try to break at once? Or I guess I should say how many new habits should we implement at a time?" Quick answer: if your life is super chaotic and super stressful, start with a habit that will help make your life less chaotic and less stressful. Otherwise you're attempting 8 million random habits waaaaay outside your zone of proximal development, you'll get overwhelmed because the random tasks are increasing stress rather than reducing stress, and you'll quit everything and be back at 0 again. Shoot. The action items to take: 1. Decide what time you need to go to bed and create a routine around it. 2. Decide what thing in the morning you can look forward to and do before you do things for other people. DOING THIS WILL SOLVE A LOT OF YOUR PROBLEMS- WILL REDUCE STRESS, MAKE LIFE LESS CHAOTIC AND MORE ENJOYABLE... So many people feel frustrated with themselves because they don’t stick with self-care habits.

With Systems for Self-Care, you'll take care of yourself CONSISTENTLY AND feel good in your head and body.

Here's what to do:

  1. Start your morning with a Self-Care Session. It can be 5 minutes to start. Seriously.

  2. Write your aspirational identity and a habit that person does.

  3. Write all the things your old self will try to say to stop you from doing it. (We all do this. Your old self likes things the same even if same=dysfunctional. Change is unknown and feels scary.)

  4. Next to each thing, write what your new self will remind old self so you DO follow through with the habit.

  5. When the time comes that old self says the thing, CATCH IT, say the new thing, and DO the new thing.

  6. Color in your 365 Habit Tracker or collect evidence in a journal about how awesome you are.

Answering your questions---> "How to stop sabotaging our intended habits when we seem to want to change so badly? And maybe why we are sabotaging ourselves in the first place?"

Have you started your mornings with a Self-Care Session?? Lemme know how it's going!

I used to really struggle with holding myself accountable... I used to not be able to get anything done!! Like anything- it's really embarrasing to think back! And as I turned 30 and 31 and 32 and on, I was like, "Ok, what are you going to do? Are you going to keep struggling or are you going to figure this out?"

So I started working with coaches, I started taking online courses, and I started CREATING SYSTEMS so I felt like I had my life together.

And these systems are amazing. Everyone should know about them! I have ease and peace in my life, and I want that for you too. I can help you create this life too...

Answering your questions---> "creating 'self/solo' accountability!" = How to hold yourself accountable

I used to struggle with going for long periods of time where I wasn’t exercising at all and then I’d try to hype myself up with seeing a personal trainer several times a week or purchasing a gym membership or a maybe a fancy new DVD or a registering for a marathon or doing a 100 day running streak - shall I go on? I would do something that wasn’t sustainable. And then be back right where I started. Back at 0 and super frustrated with myself. I don’t struggle with this anymore because I created amazing consistency and self-care systems that everyone needs to know about. I have peace and ease in my day, and I can help you get there too. ----> Answering your question: "How to get back into exercise after taking a break..." Lemme know what you're going to do! Do you ever get in your own way?

Have you ever made really cool plans for your life but then you get in your way and don't do that really cool thing? You're not alone. I used to struggle with that too, and then I came up with these great self-care systems. I don't struggle with constantly getting in my own way anymore, and I want that for you too. It's not right for that to be your life over and over and over again. Let's change it.

Answering your questions---> "How to not let yourself get in the way..."

Before:
1. Aspirational Identity
2. SIMPLE system written out step by step
3. Anticipate your self-sabotage pattern
4. Have a go-to thing to say

During:
1. Track reps (365 Habit Tracker and evidence journal)
2. When self-sabotage pops up, refer to your go-to plan

After:
1. PRAISE the behavior change with WORDS- not things, not prizes, not shoes, not food--- WORDS
2. Learn the lesson when you mess up. Make it a teachable moment.

(Year of Growth is my 2021 coaching program. It closed today, and to my new clients, I am so excited to be your guide on your journey!)

To my future clients, expect to see a constant flow of videos and podcasts coming your way focusing on systems for self-care. I used to struggle with consistently taking care of myself. I'd start and stop a million different plans. Now I don't struggle anymore, and it's because I have these amazing systems. I want this for you too! I want you to consistently take care of yourself. When you take care of yourself, you are able to show up in the world and be your best self. If we really want to change the world, we need more people to feel good and do good.

So that brings us to today!

Answering your questions ----> "How do you make sure something is part of your daily routine without it feeling like a chore?"

Do these 7 things!

I share examples for:

  1. Consistent online biz owners/podcasters/bloggers

  2. Consistently healthy + imperfect eaters

I used to not be able to get shit done because of my anxiety- the persisent "what if" questions with themes of danger and uncertainty!

And that was waaaay before I even had social media and smart phones! Facebook arrived to my college during my sophomore year. That was back when you needed an .edu email address to register! Tech actually made it harder for me to get things done and stick with anything because I was constantly consuming the world.

I don't struggle with consistency anymore because I have amazing boundaries and systems. I'm still informed but not to the point that I am paralyzed. I want that for you too, btw.

Listen, this year is not going to be butterflies and rainbows. A week in- we know this!

In 2021 and beyond, you're going to need boundaries with tech and with people, you're going to need self-care, and you're going to need systems so that you can actually replicate habits every day... this will help you show up and have a positive impact on the world.

Answering your question today--> "How do I keep my habits consistent in a world that changes everyday? 2020 was rough. How do I take the wasted energy and turn it into something positive for 2021?"

Why you always pick the easier route...

"When it comes to consistency, why is it that we always go the wrong way? We know it's good for us yet we decide on the easier route."

And don't worry- we won't just hang out in the never-ending "why do I always do this" land. (That line of questions won't ever help you become a problem-solver. Those types of questions just keep you stuck right where you are...)

I'll give you a solution to this problem!

ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS: "How do you keep consistent with no set schedule?"

Ok- so when I left being a teacher, my life got crazier. I was always saying yes to any and all opportunities, coming from a place of fear, lack, and scarcity. And I recreatd a crappy life where I had no time for myself. Not fun. I just didn't know at the time that I would have to be intentional about my boundaries. Now I do know! And I AM intentional! Boundaries feel good and easy to set. And now I have a say about my schedule and my life... feels really good!!!

I want that for you too, btw. If you show up in life and feel good about life, it has a ripple effect. The butterfly effect. Right? If we all showed up to the work day after we took time for ourselves, our cup would be full and we'd be excited about the work we were creating and the interactions we were having... life would be different for everyone... If you want to have a positive impact on society, start with you.

I used to struggle with thinking that the all or nothing approach was the only thing that could discipline me into showing up and doing the work, and it turns out that after doing ALLLLL (Whole30, a 100 day running streak, etc) I would always fall into doing NOTHING. Shoot.

Q: Ok, so what actually works?

A: Systems!! Systems for self-care and systems for consistency. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THESE SYSTEMS!! THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! I don't struggle with the same shiz I used to, and I can help you too.

Today's question: How to not avoid the all or nothing approach

Old thought: All or nothing is the only thing that works for me.

New Thought: Oh... I always end up doing nothing when I try that. What actually works is the Rep by Rep Approach.

You get to pick WHO YOU WANT TO BE in 2021. Your life; your choice.

-How can I get myself to follow through? I often get excited when starting to do things then I get overwhelmed and burn myself out and end up not completing my goal and allow fear to stop me. Then I am stuck and do it all over again like a vicious cycle.

-I often feel all in. I "decide" that I'm doing this, damn it. And then it fades. I feel like I don't trust myself anymore when I feel all in. I suppose I need to figure out why it fades?

Writing affirmations:

1. Get some paper. Anything is fine.

2. Listen to the shitty things you say or think to yourself about yourself, life, or the world.

3. Write sentences in the positive to say what you do want or want to believe about yourself.

4. Post the paper so you can see your affirmations every morning.

5. Read, write, pause, breathe, and FEEL the goodness of the affirmations. Allow yourself to feel GOOD. Get rid of doubt, lack, and fear. Practice confidence, abundance, and trust.

6. Do a SMALLLLLL action.

7. Reps. Repeat, repeat, repeat. The affirmations, the feelings, and the actions.

I remember telling my doctor that I am constantly thinking about my knee and the pain I might experience. From the moment I wake up until going to sleep. The thoughts are always there in the back of my head before any movement I make. Even just standing.

Months ago, I was watching the TV show Broad City and got worried for Ilana because she got dressed very quickly and went for a walk in NYC and didn't even look for a knee thing to wrap around her knee. I think that other people have knee problems too and wince at the pain they might experience! I told my doctor this story, and she just gave me a shot which did nothing. I wish someone had told me to examine my thoughts and get help with my thoughts!

So... I decided I needed to spend some time thinking (and writing) about my thinking.

Motivation    Enthusiasm

Which is great news because I am not a super peppy or enthusiastic person.

And hearing people say things like "just do it" didn't actually help me just do the thing... just made me feel bad and lazy I couldn't get myself to do the thing.

So how did I learn how to motivate myself to get shit done?

Well, I learned a different working defination of motivation: All human behavior is motivated pain and pleasure.Either I want to move away from pain or closer to pleasure. Moving away from pain can get us started, but moving closer to (internal) pleasure keeps me going.

p.s. I help people who experience anxiety and depression learn to get things done AND enjoy the journey.

Have you ever woken up, looked in the mirror, and been like,

"Wtf. Why are you so ugly?"

Or you avoid the mirror because you don’t want to look at your body.

And when you do catch a glimpse of yourself by mistake, you say, "Do I really look like this? Omg I can’t let anyone see me like this.”

If this is you, you’re not alone.

The mirror can be very triggering to a shitty body image day.

Today, I want to teach you how to look in the mirror and not zone in on a body part you hate. Not fall down a rabbit hole of body hate.

Because... is being a jerk to yourself actually helping you do the thing you're trying to do?

You’ve been working hard to do this Imperfect Eating thing.

This whole "I'm going to have some without having all" thing.

And it felt novel and exciting at first. Freeing. Having some/not all. Wow so great.

But then you noticed having some kept turning into having all.

And maybe you're thinking this moderation thing, this Imperfect Eating thing isn't for you after all.

Maybe you DO need a diet..

Before you rush to a diet, let's discuss 5 reasons you ate all/not some and see what actual solutions you need in place.

Chrissy was a pro at starting and stopping diets...

and the Couch to 5k program!

Starting and stopping. Starting and stopping.

The solution was not to just go all in and willpower her way through.

The actual solution was to take bite size steps and ease in to things. Food and running!

Reps, reps, reps...

The results: Chrissy placed 3rd in her first 5k! (And yes, lost weight and has kept it off!)

Everytime I run, it hurts, and I have to be in this body for the rest of my life, so what if I just practiced trusting myself and stopped running for a bit?!

Michael Bane is a dad, a runner, and a normally pretty healthy 42 year old. He also wrote a viral Facebook post about having Coronavirus back in March.

"For all those who have asked the question 'Does anyone even know anybody that has gotten the coronavirus?', if you know me, you do now. My positive test for COVID-19 has been relayed to me, and I wanted to share what my experience with this illness has been. The TL;DR version? It’s brutal, and I have no doubt it can kill you. Anyone who is saying it’s just a bad cold has either had a far different personal experience than I have or is parroting stuff they found on the internet."

He has recovered and is back at running.

"I'm too old. It's too late."

Have you ever said that?

I can remember saying that at age 17 about starting a new sport...

At age 24 about finding a life partner...

At age 30 about figuring out a new career...

And I'm sure several times throughout my 20s about becoming a runner...

Bruce McIntosh started running at age 38 and started his podcast at age 53.

He's now completed 34 half marathons,

1 virtual half marathon,

12 full marathons,

and over 85 episodes of his podcast,

Justa Runners Podcast (including an interview with Deena Kastor!)

He's an inspiration to run and really to do anything in life.

You can do anything you want.

At any age.

You just have to start.

"What actually makes us healthy?" An interesting question to ask yourself right about now! Do you need to be training for a marathon or an utlra right now? Do you need to be going hard and "killing" your body with an intense workout? Or does your body just need movement? Like getting off the couch and just doing a little bit of walking?

I chat with Lyn Lindbergh about the unfortunate messages we've been fed about fitness and how if you actually LIKE the thing you're doing, you're more likely to WANT to get off the couch and do it. Imagine enjoying moving your body!

Are you struggling to actually stay consistent with movement?

Do you always start out your movement plan doing the MAXIMUM but after a few weeks, you lose motivation and STOP? I get it. That was me too. There’s a different way! And it actually helps you stay consistent. Long-term. So you don’t have to keep starting and stopping but just keep going.

-have never implemented a consistent training plan

-want to end their 2019 feeling motivated and have healthy habits in place when 2020 start

  • always wanted to call themselves a runner but never felt confident in themselves

This past Saturday, I completed my 4th marathon! It was my first trail marathon, and I was kinda a baby about the whole thing! It was mentally and physically hard. Although the course was very flat and clear, the 37 degree weather and flooding on the course made it hard for me to be super psyched about it. I was very worried the night before because I hate being cold, and I hate having wet feet!

I still knew I was going to complete the race. I knew it wasn't going to be pretty, but my 4 months of training were not going to be for nothing.

I'll be back later this week with a (more positive) recap of the race.

When we do challenging things, we get stronger.

Even really imperfect attempts at challenging things.

What do you actually want out of life? Are your thoughts and actions matching up with that?

Michelle Hurn teaches us about creating the life you actually do want to be living.

In today's episode, you'll hear:

-how Michelle flips the switch from limiting thoughts to a possibility mindset WHILE running

-about her training for the Olympic Marathon Trials- and how no, it's not easy for fast runners either

-about the power of consistency with running instead of the quick fixes

-how Michelle struggled with an eating disorder when she was a pre-teen, wasn't expected to live, and how she changed her relationship with food, her body, and her thoughts to be where she is today

-how the brain is moldable- you can create new pathways in your brain and change your thoughts, habits, beliefs, and life

-what she uses to fuel her long distance running for up to 2 hours

-why we often quit our actions after hitting a short-term goal

-that it's OKAY TO EAT CARBS- seriously, she eats a bunch of carbs <3

-how to simplify how you eat and ENJOY the food you're eating

We discuss:

-Leaving the corporate world for a new passion

-When to see a therapist and when to see a life coach

-Traveling and figuring out a way to live the life you want

-Starting intuitive eating after years of “no chocolate this month” and “measure food with a food scale!”

-How making choices for health and wellness looks different than just aesthetics and weight loss

-How challenging yourself is different than living a miserable existence

-Being flexible with food and exercise instead of all or nothing

-How you do one thing is how you do everything- you will see what you’re doing in other areas of your life!

-Identifying your limiting beliefs- the imposter syndrome is in all of us!

When you are 70 years old, do you want to be tracking food?

A lot of women will tell me, "I just need to do something extreme and then I will figure out how to eat."

What happens is you're not able to stick with the extreme, and the pendulum swings to the other extreme.

Grab a journal for today's episode. We do a lot of mindset work.

Because it's about the food and also not really about the food...

"Once I get to a size __, then I will like myself."

When I ask women if they like their bodies in high school when they were smaller, most will say, "No. I hated myself then too."

Cool. So liking ourselves actually has nothing to do with what size our bodies are. Liking ourselves has to do with learning to like ourselves.

Also we'll talk about weight loss and when someone says they can help you target stubborn belly fat or target other parts of your body.

F that noise!

When we only think of movement as the thing to make our bodies smaller,

no wonder we don't want to do it. We are using exercise as punishment.

When we start to see movement as something we do to help our day AND WE DO A REALLY SMALL AMOUNT EACH DAY, we start to

BECOME A PERSON WHO MOVES.

It's part of our identity. No extrinsic motivation or sticker charts needed because it's who you are.

Usually after a weekend of eating all the food, we vow to be perfect on Monday to clean things up... But by Thursday, perfect is less than perfect and by Friday, we just want to eat all the food, starting the weekend binge again.

What if we just focused on getting to "normal" instead of perfectly clean?

And yes, normal is imperfect. Imperfect is normal.

Meal plans kinda make us dumber:

"Just eat what's on the plan! Follow the plan and you'll be successful."

It kinda reminds me of when I was a first year teacher and taught my kindergartners strict rules to follow for math but didn't teach problem solving skills. Oh yeah. Those.

I used to binge on dried fruit because "it was clean" and I used it as fuel while doing my long runs...

Also because chips, pizza, and cookies "were dirty" and off limits.

I had a lot of guilt about the bingeing, so instead of dealing with why I was bingeing, I kept adding foods to my list of off limits trigger foods. It used to be just chips, pizza, and cookies... and it got longer and included dried fruit, plantain chips, APPLES AND PEANUT BUTTER... my gosh. How long does this carry on?

It's scary to deal with your trigger foods.

It's scarier to be 70 years old and still have trigger foods.

Have you ever had an all or nothing mindset with food or exercise? Maybe under eating or overtraining on purpose?

I chat with Lauren who has been there and now helps other women.

Lauren explains:

-how she went from trying to "just not eat" and controlling food to learning to eat for her body

-her journey through low-fat foods, counting macros, and clean eating and from swimming to running to weight lifting

-how to build a healthier relationship with food and swimming

-the language to say to approach things with curiosity rather than disgust

-why rest days are actually important for strength (don't exercise 7 days in a row!)

Ever look in the mirror and fixate on one part of your body? It's marketed to us to "fix stubborn areas" instead of just... be okay with what your body looks like and do healthy habits anyway.

Tummy tucks and diet pills make money.

Self-acceptance and sustainable progress aren't money makers.

I chat with Ashley Fillmore today. She shares:

-how she overcame body dysmorphia

-the change in her acceptance of her body when she became pregnant

-how restrictive eating took the joy out of life

-why it's actually okay and probably necessary to consume sugar here and there along with your plants and protein

-how to build SLOW and STEADY healthy habits with food and exercise to build health, not an obsession

Lauren and I chat about:

-how she went from the imposter syndrome and saying “I wish I could do that” to believing she was a real runner and putting herself out there consistently

-how she got out of the comparisonitis game with running-seeing what her body can do vs focusing on her size

-balancing a busy and exhausting teacher life with self-care- surprise! The job never ends, there’s always more to do, you never feel ENOUGH, so you HAVE to do something for yourself.

-valuing yourself just as you are- we can create multiple layers to our identities, but they can also easily be taken away from us- YOU ARE ENOUGH JUST AS YOU ARE

-dealing with the emotions with pregnancy and miscarriage- feeling, at times, betrayed by her body and feeling strong again with running

Today is my birthday, and that means it has been a full 365 days since launching this podcast. Today is episode 52, and though I didn't have an episode every week this year, there some some I had a few episodes and some I had zero, I like to call this imperfect consistency.

Sometimes we aren't perfect at that thing we are just starting out, and as long as we keep going, we grow, learn, and evolve.

On today's episode, Paul tells us about:

  1. training for a marathon and how important it is to have a big motivating factor

  2. how strong a mental game you need to finish a marathon

  3. advice to any new runners out there looking to achieve something big in 2019.

Thanks so much for your support this year! It's been a blast.

On today's episode with MaryAnn, we chat about:

-how she overcame an eating disorder and obsession with overexercising by building a stronger relationship with her body

-the comparison trap-why our bodies will never look exactly like someone else’s body, and that’s ok!

-why we need health and fitness NOW so that when we are older, our bodies are strong enough to take care of ourselves- being strong enough to get to the toilet, tub, or our beds when we’re 80 years old, gasp!

-how important sleep is for your body - we can slow down and live a happier life- rest-based living!

-learning what creates stress for you and learn what creates a learning moment for you- it can be different for all of us

-how data can help us create mini steps towards health rather than fixating and judging that we didn’t do enough

You're going to love today's episode. Marisa and I chat about:

-how what we identify as can change how we act... we ARE runners

-how calling ourselves an athlete opens up a big door

-movement for FUN and to see what our bodies are capable of

-how working with a coach or teacher helps us improve and get stronger!! And it’s not a knock on ourselves.

-why runners need to keep working on strength to help our knees and the longevity of our bodies (she has a free program- link is below!)

-shifting our energy from dieting (taking away) to instead getting stronger (adding to ourselves)

And the big message- getting out of our own way, learning to completely accept our bodies, and moving on with the fun of life.

-"no pain; no gain" is crap and movement can be pain-free

-strength training is NEEDED as our bodies get older

-you'll be thankful you can squat when you're 70 years old and need to get off a toilet by yourself!

From Binge Eating to Imperfect Eating is OPEN.

Monica is my Pizza Friday twin. I was in awe hearing her story as there were so many things she said that sounded EXACTLY like me.

In today's episode, we chat about:

-how de-stressing and taking pressure off herself changed her life more than any cardio machine at the gym

-how giving up on being skinny brought so much joy to her life

-how its okay and NECESSARY to accept yourself just as you are

-how she now works out for joy instead of punishing her body... and it's mostly weights these days

-when she realized that there was a voice (inner mean girl) questioning her actions… and how CHOOSING to reframe her thoughts was a game-changer

-her road to normal/imperfect eating… and how it actually included binge eating on the weekend (surprise!) Recovery is not a 30 day program. Recovery has twists and turns.

Anyone else try to go from 0 to 100 when it comes to food or working out? Anyone else a complete jerk to themselves when they "mess up" with something? I loved chatting with Susan on today's podcast as she shares her journey from overdoing it with the cardio, becoming a successful half-marathoner with the run-walk method, and getting physically and mentally stronger while lifting weights. Susan shares how she got out of yo-yo dieting, why "clean eating" really ISN'T the best way to lose weight, and why being scared of and missing out on birthday cake isn't a life she wants to live.
She believes in fitness as a tool for life and not as punishment for what you ate. Susan is a personal trainer + momma and also a former counselor and teacher. She helps middle age women lose weight in a sustainable way with trust, faith, and practice. This is THE episode is for anyone who thinks fitness isn't for them. A lot of us start working out for the aesthetics. Maybe we saw a fitspo account on social media, the comparisonitis began... and we just wanted to fit into clothes better, have confidence in the mirror, wear a bathing suit, tone/get muscles... whatever.

  1. Fat loss

  2. Performance

or

  1. Maintenance... just being healthy and energized.

I mess up a lot. Like a lot. But I keep moving. I keep going. I stop stressing about the shit I mess up because the time I spend stressing is time I could have spent doing shit.

Whether you are training for a marathon, working on a weight loss goal, or just living life, stop expecting a perfect ride. Starting expecting imperfection along the way SO THAT when it pops up, you're not surprised, you're not startled, and you're not a bitch to yourself. Start using those dips in the ride as opportunities to get stronger.

We gain weight from a calorie surplus.

Eating more calories/food than our body burns.

So while we know we need to eat less/move more, it's not that simple in practice. I worked on getting a handle on the stressors in life, and this helped me get a handle on the stress eating that created the calorie surplus.

This super imperfect episode comes to you from the road as we find some place to spend the night. Just kidding. Kinda.

2.5 years ago, I decided to stop dieting. Stop doing perfect meal plans. Stop doing Meal Prep Sunday. And stop obsessing over food.

The thing is, after doing those things for so long, it all didn't change overnight. It took time unlearning the habits and mindset I had when it came to food and LIFE.

We talk about being Imperfect yet Consistent and what the heck that means while we are on this road trip through the south... where most veggies on a menu are breaded and fried.

Forgive me for talking in circles and not presenting unfinished thoughts. I'm focusing on the process right now and not a super polished and perfect end goal. Join me in being imperfect. It's fun.

Have you ever worked out for like 6 months straight, ate super healthy, felt amazing, and then fallen into a hole where these acts felt impossible?

I've been MIA.

I was consistent with this podcast for 6 months, and this past month has been a mess because of the little voice inside telling me I can't do this.

Here's what I am doing to get myself out of this mini hole before it turns into a giant hole:

Applying imperfect action.

This podcast is not polished. I talk in circles... as I walk in circles.

But it was my mini action to get myself going.

If you're in a hole, I want you to apply action today.

I don't want you to do a 60 minute workout, and I don't want you to plan a whole week's worth of perfect meals. You/we won't be able to keep up with that for life.

Pick a super small action. Even smaller. Something you can do for 7 days straight. And then let's do it for 7 days straight... and repeat some more.

xoxo

Lemme know what you picked: coachjaclyn@jaclynriccho.com

I used to think of exercise as punishment for what I ate or as something that was really, really hard and just another thing to add to my super long to do list. Surprise! It never got done. I kept thinking of it as something extra and not something that would actually help me.

You know all that changed when I did my first 5k and trained for my first long distance race.

If you're someone who has a different schedule this summer and go back and forth about the place fitness has in your life, give today's episode a listen.

Lyn Lindbergh is no stranger when it comes to having a stressful and inactive lifestyle. This former kindergarten teacher turned dot.com 9-5er saw how a lack of health and fitness took a toll on her life.

Lyn loved the social aspect of running races, and fitness became a part of her life. She created Couch to Active to help busy professionals make exercise a part of their lives too.

I chat with my good friend Nick Greene about his odd day running streak, running burnout, and finding his groove again.

You will learn:

-motivation mindsets

-what to do when you start to half-ass / hate the thing you once loved

-why running is like walking but possibly 2x better

-and how to make running fun

In this episode, I talk about how my over-consumption of calories caused my weight gain, how I am no longer afraid of carbs, and yeah, I have cookies and pizza every now and then too without going overboard.

A diet is a tool that we can use to learn about food, buuuut we are the ones who control our lives and have to figure out a way we can eat, live, and be happy, healthy, and strong.

And if you're like me, you're gonna wanna have carbs and cake.

In this episode, I talk about getting over caring what other people think of you.

It's hard. It's a process. It is never perfect, but there is hope.

Turns out we can learn to be confident and not worry about what people are saying about our bodies, our running form, our clothes, our pace, our mileage... and the list goes on.

As a former worry-wart AND negative Nancy, I am here to tell you that you can be a kind Karen while you are running and find other caring Catherines too.

No freal, you can learn to stop worrying about other people without being an Olympic athlete/best of the best runners.

xoxo

2.5 years ago, I felt really crappy about life.

I had just quit my teaching job.

I have a BA and MA in teaching, invested thousands and thousands of dollars, and I just completely left the career.

I was at a job where I worked 50+ hours a week making outbound calls to help people troubleshoot tech stuff I didn't understand.

And my 31st birthday was around the corner. I didn't feel all that much better about 31 from 30.

I needed something for me.

So I started running.

It changed my life.

It can change yours too.

Josh is legit. When it comes to running, self-care, a purpose in life, and how to handle money, this guy knows what's up and helps other people too.

In this episode, we talk about:

  1. A lot of people have a rocky start to running or whatever journey they are starting.

  2. It's okay as adults to seek out help from other people who know their sh*t. In fact, that is how our economy works!

  3. How amazing it is to give back because we're all on this planet together.

And if the thought of saving for retirement is scary right now (eek!), you gotta to check out Josh's financial planning services: jm@financialadvisinggroup.com

In this episode, I break it down for you:

  1. All the things I did to sabotage myself

  2. Specific foods I eat (and don't eat) when snacking to help weight loss + running

3.Why the little things actually do matter... or don't matter? Both.
