Adam is a founder of a radical new monastic commuiity in New York whose loving action was the support and encouragememt of street homeless young people. Adam's story is quite unique with influences from the Solidarność freedom movment in Poland, and the affects of civil war and oppression, being an undocumented immigrant into the United States, and lots of experience of Roman Catholic and Episcopalian justice movements, resulting in a pretty unique new monastic community in New York. Adam is also training for the Ordained Priesthood. This is the first of two podcasts.

In this podcast on the second Sunday of Lent, Ian Mobsby explores the conversation in the Gospel of John Chapter 3 between Nicodemus, (a leading religious leader and Pharisee in Jerusalem) with Jesus. It becomes plain to see that Nicodemus is unable to recognise who Jesus is and his significance because he is blinded by a faith that sees faith as a form of rule book. There are a number of applications for this for Christians in the 21st Century and beyond who are unable to let Jesus be God, and stuck by needing to understanding everything unable to cope with mystery. In this podcast on the fourth Sunday of Advent, 2015, Ian Mobsby explores the context and meaning of Mary's Song of Redemptive Revolution as recorded in the Gospel of Luke 1.39-45[46-55]. This text commonaly called the Magnificat, is said at Evening Prayer in most Anglican Churches and religious communities. As such Mary's vision is deeply political in that it seeks the common good for economic, social and ecological justice. This not a violent revolution, but a calling for all those who have and have not to come to the table as equal particpants in the Kingdom of God.
On Tues 15th December, a number of people from our nascent St Luke's new monastic community met up with Sister Joyce of the Community of St Francis who have a Franciscan House in Southwark. The evening was organised to help us begin to explore the importance of the insights of Franciscan thinking around Christianity to help us to begin to explore what God is calling us to be and do in North Peckham. Recently there has been increasing recognition that New Monasticism is a mix of Benedictine, Franciscan and Ignatian Spirituality, so we are seeking to explore this over the next year.

In this St Lukes Peckham Podcast, Ian Mobsby draws on the gospel text of John chapter 5 verses 36-47 to explore the theme of the bible as a resource for following Jesus, not bashing others. Drawing on the examle of Jesus' encounters with the Pharasees, Saducees and the teachers of the law who were so certain of who God was and what God would do, Ian exploes how this was a form of early religious fundamentalism, that has existed until the present day. When ever we get so certain of knowing God or raise the bible as an alternative God, we diminish God's soverignty and and loose the calling of the New Testament to follow God in humility and love. Religious Fundamentalism remains one of the most damaging forces in the world, that has little to do with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
