About a month and a half before WWDC and what will Apple bring to the table? Naturally Apple isn’t saying anything, but that hasn’t stopped everyone from talking about it including the GMen
What is with these breaks the GMen keep taking? It’s like they’ve gotten old or something. Also, while we would all LOVE to brag about how great our Macs are, not everything is so rosy in AppleLand these days.
A long time ago, Guy made an iWeb site called MacParrot.com. He got the domain name and custom built it, not just from the templates that iWeb gave you, but in a way that made it look nothing like an iWeb site. iWeb is now long gone and Guy let his ownership of the domain lapse some 10-15 years ago. His struggle to get it back and use it again is the subject of today’s centre section.
We have made fun of folded phones ever since they came out. Super expensive and not long after purchase, a visible seam would appear across the screen. It’s been a couple of years since then and technology as always has improved. There are now whispers across the internets that Apple might dip a toe into folded space. Will they do it better? Will it still be more expensive than similar non folded gizmos? Will the GMen not be giant hypocrites and make fun of Apple’s try as well?
Coming up in macOS 16, BIG changes are coming to the eutectics of the macOS. Based on past BIG changes, what do we think the changes will be and could we come up with something better?.
With Gaz away riding snowshoes or something in Spain, Guy talked the multi-talented Jeff Gamet to join him. THIS was a podcast that went all over the place and was really fun to do.
Isn’t anticipation wonderful? You get yourself all revved up for some new thing or place to go and once you’re there it’s a bit of a let down. It’s how I feel about the non-event event Apple had on February 19th when they released the iPhone 16e. I sat there thinking, “and? And? AND?” But alas, there was no and.
Apple is unveiling a new member of the family on February 19th that has a lot of people buzzing with excitement. I’m not one of them really since most of the potential items aren’t things I want or already have the last generation of, but we won’t let that stop us from speculating about it later on. Who knows, if it really is something exciting maybe it’ll make me regret recent purchases because what’s life without huge amounts of regret? To make up for not being on the show last time, we’re going to do another episode of EVERYONE’S favourite game show, “What are the Odds?” There’s also not one, but TWO Mr. Cheezed Off segments because apparently he’s REALLY cheesed off. You’re welcome!

Everyone loves to save money and the promise of the browser extension ‘Honey’ was to get you the best price and discounts on stuff you were planning on buying. It turns out though that Honey allegedly also was doing some shady stuff in the background. Including possibly colluding with some resellers so that you didn’t get the biggest discount you might have gotten. Link to the video showing the allegations below.
Against the better judgement of most of the civilized world, the MyMac podcast has been afflicted…wait…no, endured beyond anyone’s reasonable expectations. No, not from the MyMac crew but in the upcoming point release of MacOS 15.2 Sequoia. Most are already out in iOS which tells you a lot about Apple’s priorities these days. Also BTW, the final score of the first “What are the Odds” was Gaz +100, Guy -270. So pretty close
October was a terrific month for Mac hardware updates! November? Not so much, but we do have potentially, maybe, perhaps, but no guarantees that March of 2025 could be when some but not all of the rest of the line will definitely get an update. if the gods so smile down upon us.

Not one, not two, but three days of new Macs and it still feels a little disappointing. Yeah we got a newly designed Mac mini that’s the smallest and fastest ever, an iMac with enough power for many Pro users, and an M4 MacBook Pro with a Maximum of power. Fantastic, but no M4 Mac Studio? No M4 Mac Pro? It’s like the best chocolate cake ever that you forgot to put frosting on the top. So we had a COMPLETELY different show planned but Apple dropped the new iMac and Mac mini and it looks great but we still have some issues. Now we don’t have all the facts yet but we’ll talk about it anyway. You can pre-order now but it’s for sale on 11-8.
As hard as it may be to believe now, but once upon a time the rivalry was so embittered between Mac and Windows users that entire articles were written singing the praises of one or the other. Such foolishness is mostly behind us now and people typically choose what OS they run based on need. Certainly preferences are part of that but… just imagine that some people…some people mind you, may want to switch to one or the other. Obviously not going from the Mac to Windows since the Mac is most assuredly the better platform…what? Huh, maybe that rivalry hasn’t completely gone away.
We are so addicted to our smart phones that we carry them every and just assume that we’ll always have a way to communicate with our loved ones. Many have recently discovered however that you can’t always count on that, so what’s the alternative? Apple’s Satellite communication services to the rescue…well for some people anyway.
iCloud can be a great way to create and collaborate with selected friends and family. You can do much of the same on other platforms too, as long as you’re willing to trust them as much as you may trust Apple.
Looking into our imaginary Crystal Ball, Apple still has some big hardware items to update and we might take a guess when they’ll released using nothing but numbers pulled right.

MacOS has been compared to other operating systems for like, forever. Why is it that Mac users stay with the platform when it’s without a doubt more expensive? With not as much choice for either desktop or laptop solutions? MUCH less software or gaming applications, and less capable of upgrades, especially now since the M-series of processors have arrived? We’re going to explore that topic for a bit this week
Somehow Gaz has managed to put up with me for 700 or so shows. Sure we’ve both missed a week or two and doesn’t Gaz deserve a break from me once in a while? Long walks in the fresh air sounds just like the way to go unless you’re some rando cheesy dude in Duval. Also there’s rumors of a newly redesigned Mac mini because the current one was just not small enough I guess.
Apple’s 3rd quarter results are in and to no one’s surprise, Apple made a lot of money. Maybe the surprise is where they made it as much as how they made it. Also, we haven’t talked about it much, but our 700th show is just 1 show away. Anything you want us to talk about? Let us know or we’ll just drone on as usual. Apple Intelligence is the biggest feature of the next versions of nearly all of Apple’s operating systems. Except so far other than some slick WWDC demos that didn’t feel like demos but market-speak, there’s been very little concrete evidence any of it is real. Weird power shennanigans are going on this week as well.
Have you ever been to the MacStock Conference and Expo? You're really missing out if you haven't because it's great! Guy is there, but Gaz is not (sad face). However let's do the next best thing that's not really the next best thing and do a podcast there with terrible wifi.
Lately I’ve been experimenting with Livecasting on YouTube with a new short form podcast and our guest Karl Madden actually came up with the name. It’s called The Daily Apple Dispatch and it should be roughly 5 minutes long per episode. So when will it begin? What have I done so far with it and how did the setup go? What programs did I use and what issues have come up?
Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth podcast is in to keep Guy in line (good luck with that) while Gaz is away on a well deserved vacation from retirement! Also, General Motors is about to make a big mistake. They are said to be removing both CarPlay and Android Auto from their vehicles with their own Ultifi (no I didn't make that up) platform. This is just one in a series of decisions GM is making to bring more people into the showroom by totally pissing them off. Because nothing enhances the car buying experience like making it even more frustrating..
The keynote for WWDC has come and gone and holy frijoles was there lots of goodies to digest. Many of which we’ll go over in the next section. The biggest surprise is the new features of Siri in which Apple is trying to improve it instead of taking their cues from the old Ford Model T in which you can ask it anything and receive the answer you want, as long as that answer is here are some weblinks.
Last show Guy contemplated getting another Mac mini. Well he didn’t do that but instead took the advice that I and every other person with two brain cells to rub together told him to do when the M1 MacBook Pro he ALREADY had was thrown into the mix. Which was to use THAT as the dedicated podcast computer he thinks he needs. We’ll talk a bit about how that project is going and what he’s accomplished so far…which may be not much
After last show’s debacle, Guy is seriously considering getting a dedicated computer for podcasting. Wouldn’t have to be super fancy and would have minimal connections to cloud computing and phones (which is what set off the failure last week). Just software related to podcasting like DAWs and browser-based video/audio software and hardware like audio interfaces for microphones.
Some say it was going to be the longest Apple event EVER. Turns out it was just under 40 minutes, but probably closer to 35 if you take off the fancy intro. So what’s the takeaway? Size matters, pencils gone pro, and iPads get first dibs on chips. Also the show went completely bananas as practically every audio program we were using blew up all at the same time.
It took a few weeks but Nintendo has slapped down a staggering 8535 DMCA take down orders against a bunch of Git Hub repositories hosting older games for the Yuzu Switch emulator. A good portion of these games will never be pushed toward future platforms but it’s Nintendos (legal) bat and (legal) ball and they’re going home.
Mark your calendars for May 7th which is the next Apple event. Nothing concrete on what they’ll be releasing but having an Apple Pencil in the announcements graphic just MIGHT be a clue. David Ginsburg of In Touch with iOS Podcast fame joins Guy in a podcast that Guy had audio issues with, well for nearly the entire recording...sigh

So the rumormongers are talking about AI-infused M4 processors before Apple’s even finished updating M2 Macs with M3s. It’ll all be worth it though when those M4 AI-infused Man Minis, Studios, and Pros get out of Apple’s labs to enslave humanity…I mean help us with Photoshop.

Karl Madden of the Mac and Forth podcast join the GMen to help answer a listener question asking about Power Adapters. This got us to thinking (and you know how hard that is), what kind of options are there to power our Apple gear away from wherever it is we call home. Not just that quick trip to Disneyland, but perhaps some far away land filled with wonder unlike anything we’ve experienced at home! Huh…,maybe we mean Disneyland after all.
What happens when you get two podcasters playing with AI images? Unexpected results and lots of laughs. Karl Madden and Guy spent some time this morning trying to create images with AI and some crazy results occurred. Since this is more visual than usual, Guy will create a version of the podcast on YouTube that will just have the AI image discussion so you don’t have to go through the whole thing.
Hey everyone, think back to those glorious days when the GMen went on and on about Apple’s ever so certain to be released (any day now) Apple car that was going to be so advanced that it would drive itself. In fact you couldn’t drive it even if you wanted to because it wouldn’t have a steering wheel. Well stick a pin on that because Apple has done a soft announcement that they’re canceling it! In fact, the announcement was SO soft that they didn’t even say it and relied on all the hype masters who have talked about it for ten years to do it for them.
Apple’s M3 Processor is a good (not particularly great but good) update over it’s M2 brothers and sisters. Depending on the configuration you want. If you already have an M2-based computer, is it worth putting down your hard earned currency of choice? Depends on what you use it for, but generally speaking probably not. If you’re still on an Intel Mac or M1? Look in your couch cushions for spare change because you might want to make the jump.
The MacOS is great, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it better. We’re going to look at some apps that have the potential to make your experience better…even if they didn’t come from Cupertino
There’s quite a few bugs in Apple’s regular software. Actually more than a few and the GMen are going to talk about some of them this week. Not all of them because that might make the show just a tad too long, but enough to take the smirk of superiority off some Apple user’s faces.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week or so, pre-orders for Apple’s Vision Pro started on Friday January 19th. Are you ready for all the hype and whining well too bad, it’s likely going to be all you hear in tech circles for the next month or two. We promise that THIS show will be the last you hear about it from us! Or maybe we’ll likely be gushing and or complaining about it too. Also, Guy says a dumb. See if you can guess where it happens.
Guy hasn't made a secret of his issues with having lost his right eye. While he's made light of it, in every way it sucks. It puts him and others like him in a weird situation. They have a clearly defined affliction, but there’s little to no help for them. While it's sure that people with worse sight issues would gladly trade places with those with mostly good vision in one eye, there’s more assistive technology for the blind or those with almost no vision than there there is for people with monocular vision. Everyone is different and their needs are very different, but can’t there be some help for them too?
While we may not want them, we’ve had them in a long journey that no one saw coming except for the exploiters themselves. They even went to extraordinary lengths to hide what they were doing from everyone. If ever there was a time to patch ALL your Apple devices, it would be now.
Does Photos drive you crazy with all of it’s sometimes VERY annoying quirks? Do the GMen have any answers? We would like to think we do, but how does that usually end up?

Sure there are deals both in-store and digitally, but since they started talking about Black Friday deals before Halloween, is anyone else tired of the hype? Shortest event ever and could have been even shorter if they had snapped it up with all the processor talk. Don’t get us wrong, we love some of the finer details, but when you have an event that’s blink and you’ll miss it, having half of it taken up talking about cores and M1/Intel comparisons is kinda weak sauce..
Remember just a few weeks ago when we thought there wouldn’t be another Mac event this year? Or did we actually say the exact opposite? Hard to say, as the overblown reverb meant most people couldn’t stand listening to it.
Is anyone else disturbed that Apple may be getting involved with AppleTV content that they gave free reign to? We’d ask Jon Stewart but apparently that doesn’t play well in China. Also Guy's experimental podcasting in a cave, down a ravine, in an abandoned concert venue, underwater last week didn't work out as well as he had hoped.
We may thoroughly despise rumor mongering, but we do enjoy a little alleged by all accounts scuttlebutt so the story goes…so lets do that! Also Guy MAY have been a LITTLE heavy on the reverb...possibly.
Sorry about that, but we were away for a bit taking care of all kinds of unrelated to being GMen things, but here we are. With MacOS Sonoma now released, there are certain things to remember and do BEFORE jumping to that new operating system. Chief among them is making sure you have a complete backup you can revert to in case things go horribly wrong! Will they? Probably not. CAN they? Oh most certainly.

World's longest "short" podcast that Guy and Gaz have ever done. No big tech show this week though Gaz’s snippets are still there. So, just how bad can a few flights go? Oh let me spin you a tale! Also odd tech glitched throughout much of the show which is blamed on Glenn Beck for reasons.
The title is kinda clickbait as there isn’t really anything called artificial intelligence for real. There are machine learning programs capable of writing malware based on the criteria given to it. The past and current talking points is that as the Mac gets more popular there will be more malware directed toward it. Been hearing this for years and the M-series Macs have grown the Mac market to the point where it is a more attractive target, but has there been more actual infections? One very telling point is that most articles saying the Mac get’s viruses and malware seems to come from companies selling anti-virus software..
OK so you bought a shiny new Mac of some kind. What else might you need that won’t cost an arm and a leg? Depends on a couple of things. Is it a laptop? A Mac mini? A Mac Studio? We’ll go over some stuff you might want to consider.
It used to be hard to get beta versions of the Mac OS. You had to be an Apple Developer and pay $99 a year for the privilege. Now you flip a switch in System settings and you can at the very least get the public betas with absolutely no sweat. However just because you CAN do something it doesn’t always follow that you should.
Apple and Goldman Sachs originally seemed like a match made in heaven. Apple makes their way into the world of finance instead of just being on the retail end and Goldman Sachs expanded into consumer banking. So how did it go so very wrong…for Goldman Sachs anyway.

Who would have thought that one of the oldest model names in computers is now 25 years old. It’s amazing when you think about where it started and what its become. It went from being an all-in-one plug and play computer to a…well maybe things haven’t changed all that much after all.

Cloud computing like it or not is here to stay. The public and now computer companies are making this a fact by changing many of the ways they create computers these days and Apple isn’t immune to it either. So what is it good for and how deep should you go into it?

Artificial Intelligence chat, or AI chat, uses technology like natural language processing and machine learning to facilitate communication between humans and machines. As AI chat evolves, chatbots may become more sophisticated, capable of understanding complex conversations, emotions, and even humor. Trying to bring in everything we like to do with our Macs is made difficult by the lack of available ports. Fortunately several companies have filled that void with fast reliable hubs with all the ports we need. Today we look at some of those offerings from OWC, Caldigit, and Sonnet.
Considering the M2 was just released last summer, nearly the entire Mac Line (and several of the iPads) have already switched over from the M1. So what’s left for Apple to move to the newest processor and will there be any other surprises to go along with it?
Well it’s been an interesting week in which potential calamity after calamity occurred and we’re tempted to say thank you, since not much else is really going on for us to talk about. So instead of more, “Hey how about those new HomePods that look amazingly like the ones Apple already discontinued once” or “Should I get a new Mac now or wait until the M3 miniPro UltraMax comes out?”, we’re going to talk about what to do when your worst week ever happens…without it being like, actually life threatening or anything. Because that would REALLY suck.
Apple had their quarterly earnings call and despite a rise in revenue for Services and iPads, the general earnings were down about 6 million year over year. Or roughly a few days of fines in Denmark.
There's some speculation that 2023 may be the year that the M-series Mac Pro may finally be released. There's also lots of speculation (and a fair bit of whining) that it won't be as expandable as some past Mac Pros were. Honestly? It probably won't be. OODLES of audio comments including our first from the new Google voice number which will make this a SUPER long show with a lot of afters. Gaz wants to know how NFL Football teams are created.
Just as we were getting comfortable with the state of all things Mac, Apple does a non-event and throws out M2 Mac minis and MacBook Pros. Seems like maybe they should have started with these instead of the Air and iPad, but what do we know? Then, just to throw us another curveball, bigger HomePods just were announced!
For the plus 20 years, Apple has manufactured the vast majority of their stuff in China. Obviously they haven’t been alone in doing this, most major tech companies and many smaller ones have either moved their factories to China or gotten started there. The pandemic showed that this was a risky move as China essentially shut their entire country down for a long time, disrupting supply chains everywhere. Apple and now many others are beginning to rethink this strategy and have begun diversifying their manufacturing to other countries in the region as well.
News on this podcast is serious business…no matter how many times we laugh at it. It can be hard to take some news seriously and other times it just lends itself to hyperbole and ridicule, but we approach these topics with much thought and insight….or that’s what we tell ourselves anyway.
Sometimes it’s hard to know what features an OS is offering that might be to your liking? If really any at all. So we’re going to talk about some of the main features of macOS Ventura and whether or not we’ve tried them and if we’ll use them on a daily basis. Then, make up your own mind about it.
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the podcast, not a creature was stirring but you know it won’t last. Gaz and Guy have family coming from afar. Through wind, snow, and rain, but quite comfy in their car. You heard them exclaim as the present wrappings flew, “You didn’t get Apple Care? You fool you fool!”
Two weeks away and the GMen are getting into the spirit of the season! That season being "Why the heck is it so cold and windy?" Also, it's looking more and more like Apple is going to be forced in the EU to allow 3rd party app stores and other alternative means to procuring and installing iOS iPadOS apps outside of Apple's own app store.
We have just jumped into the holiday season with black Friday and all kinds of deals that really aren’t all that impressive. However, Guy has scoured the internet (at least 25 minutes of hard core searching!) and found a bunch of deals that REALLY made him want to buy stuff….but he didn’t
There seems to be little common ground around Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter. It’s either the greatest thing EVAH (freedom fries for murica) or a house burning down around an oven with a chicken left in at 300 celsius. What actually is happening is mostly up for debate and your opinion is just as valid as someone else. Even if those two opinions are 180 degrees out of sync.
You would think Apple was in dire straits based on what analysts are saying. Some of it true and some false, all overblown or inconsequential long term. AirPods and AirPods Pros assembly lines being shut down for an unnamed new product just before the holiday season buying rush (because THAT makes sense), iPhone 14 lines shut down due to dystopian COVID-19 authoritarian demands (might be somewhat true), and M2 laptops that only measure 13 inches at best (currently true), Apple surely MUST be doomed! Except they’re having one killer quarter after another so either Apple is lying or analysts don’t have a clue. I’m not normally a betting man, but I know where I’d put my money.

Busy day for Guy yesterday with a 3 hour drive each way to Philadelphia to see a Dracula exhibit at the Mutter Museum. Much Muttering was done as it was less spectacular than anticipated. Also Apple apparently updated some tablet thingies.

Apple announced their September event is scheduled for the 7th which is a Wednesday and has Guy’s OCD greatly disturbed because it’s SUPPOSED to be on a Tuesday…according to Guy.
It’s being said that the iPhone 14 will have the same look and processor as its predecessor and in order to get the best full featured specs, you’ll need to jump to the 14 Pro. If this is true, is there really a need for iPhone 12 or 13 users to jump to a new phone?
While Tim Cook (Mr. Excitement) has been the CEO of Apple for over 10 years, he’s now getting closer to mid-60s and is probably looking past where he’ll be running things. His legacy is pretty firmly set and there’s not much more at this point he could do, so who will be next in line to run Apple? We’ll look at some of the likely candidates in the second section.
Apple just released their Q3 earnings for 2022 and while the company met expectations, that’s about the long and short of it. Mac sales in particular were way down by 20 year over year and the biggest problem seems to be supply constraints and a lot of China’s capacity out due to lockdowns enforced by the government. So Guy used to do this thing called the Dashboard Minute when he still had hair on top of his head…kidding…wasn’t happening even then, He thought they were gone forever when Apple pushed it out with OS X 10.14 Mojave. Turned out they were just bidding their time to put them on an even smaller screen, namely iPhones.
Neither Guy nor Gaz are made out of money which is a good thing since random pieces of coloured paper can't do podcasts, but we can afford a few luxuries or items to replace current luxuries. So in the section part 2 we're going to talk about what we have, what we'd replace it with, and why.
We made a lot of predictions for the keynote of WWDC, and I'm proud to say that we got everything right...which is a lie. Other than the date, not too much was correct.
So many sales going on right now on Apple products from Walmart with its Walmart Plus Weekend sales or Amazon’s Amazon Prime Day events with HUGE discounts off Apple Products. Many pendants are saying, “Hey Apple, why don’t YOU do some of those discounts and get those shoppers on YOUR website!”. Except they’ve forgotten one important fact. Both Amazon and Walmart are still buying those products from Apple so without even cutting margins to near nothing, Apple still gets paid. Also apparently there’s a developer’s conference or something on Monday which I guess the GMen will talk about. Lastly, it's the Queen's Platinum Jubilee!
One of the GMen has been predicting for a long time that what the iPad needs isn’t half-hearted multitasking that requires more moves than a rugby player in the - line-out, but a full fledged floating window experience. Kinda like every operating systems on any large screen currently uses. Maybe…JUST maybe that’s coming true in the next version of iPadOS.

However, he (Guy) was also smart (for once) and invited David Ginsburg from the “In Touch with iOS” podcast to join in and give his thoughts on the upcoming WWDC which while still some time away, hasn’t stopped people from talking about it.
Oh just relax internet censors, we’re talking about computer speed for gosh sakes. The great debate over whether Apple’s benchmarks comparing an M1 Ultra Mac Studio to a similar Intel-based computer has fans on both sides dragging up all the old arguments of Mac vs PC. Many are saying at best Apple exaggerated and many others claiming Apple out and out lied. The GMen say, stop getting your underwear in such a twist. Maybe going forward for most people it just won’t matter. Or maybe that time has already come.
When it comes to upgradability, Apple’s devices going back well into the Intel years have not exactly been the best examples. Even the simple things like RAM and storage have been missing from most of Apple’s lineup for many years. Looking forward into the M-processor years, this isn’t likely to change much and there are some very good, if not extremely frustrating reasons why.
Man that Apple event was really something wasn’t it? Too bad nearly everything Guy predicted was utterly and almost to the point incorrect. Fortunately according to the many worlds theory as proposed by the famed Polish theoretical physicist Wojciech (WOJ-SEE-ETCH) H. Zurek, in one universe as defined by Quantum Mechanics not only was Guy correct about every prediction, but he did so while eating chocolate ice cream and dancing the Fandango surrounded by former Playboy Bunnies. So he’ll take that as a win…in some other universe

Seems like every week there’s a new story about a security break down between our smart devices and reportedly unintended consequences of the apps we use and auxiliary features and hardware those apps use. Case in point, this week it’s the popular conferencing app Zoom.

A mandatory Android and iOS app for all Olympic athletes and visitors for the 2022 Winters games allegedly can listen in with no prompting from the user. However it makes up for this by storing and sending personal information like GPS data, any medical history, contact information, and so on to unknown servers unencrypted. So it’s got that going for it.

That's MY parking space!" at 3 in the morning to get a 50-inch off brand 4K TV set from an unpronounceable Chinese manufacturer for $200. Well, we're better than that aren't we? No? Well, we're likely buy better stuff anyway.
Apple's big growth days in their existing markets are likely pretty much over. Sure they sell a few more gizmos in each segment each quarter, but their share is pretty much stagnant within a few percentage points. So where are they likely to go to next?

Believe it or not, we had sort of intended to do a show from Macstock or nearby at least, but circumstanced deemed otherwise.Some virtual (but very real) technical issues, audio feedback, and the fact that Guy took a laptop running a Mojave beta (so no Rogue Amoeba apps could be run) meant that frankly it was just impossible. It also didn’t matter how many microphones Guy took with him (over 10) no matter what he thought at the time he was gathering them.

Remember when simplicity was actually almost built-in to Apple products? When presenters would stand on stage and say “All you need to do is push this button and we’ll do all the heavy lifting.” Those days? LONG gone.
Recent experiments by Guy has made him start to think. A dangerous precedent that you would believe the world would want to avoid, but they did it anyway. Is the current crop of emulation of not just X86 coded apps, but iOS and iPadOS apps a look into the future? Are we getting closer to that time when what OS you're running is irrelevant? That’s the subject for the next section anyway.
That pesky Apple Car just won’t go away! Just when you thought it was safe to start looking at what analysts say again, this crops up once again proving the old saying…”Analysts are idiots who will say anything to get you to part ways with your money in the direction they’re being paid to tell you to spend it at.”. OK, the saying might not be old, in fact we may have made it up here on the spot, but it it doesn’t make it any less true.
Apple is the company that gives and then takes away. Announcements have been made that they are going to start scanning users Photos library to help stop underage exploitation and while that is a lofty goal, what does it mean in regards to user’s privacy that Apple has touted in their press clippings?

For fulfilling his end of the deal, those pictures will never be released to the general public. They go into their recording setup and gear because there's not really all that much else going on and Guy LOVES talking about that stuff.
With fall about to drop in about a month, a lot people begin to focus of new iPhones. However with the transition away from Intel for the Macs, it has been a very chaotic kind of year not even including a global pandemic. The M1 Macs have been pretty good, but there’s lots of room for improvement with the Macs that haven’t gotten out of the labs yet.
We talked about some of the new features coming up for macOS Monterey last week and said we'd talk some more about it this week...which is what we're going to do. So that shouldn't be all that surprising.
The first public beta for macOS Monterey is now out and SO many people are talking about, so we thought we might too! Because we’re all about getting out the information our listeners demand! Oooor…we just like jumping on any bandwagon that we can. There’ll be more on this next week for the bits we didn’t get to this time.
Lots of talk from Capital Hill in regards to those naughty big tech companies. Congress wants them to play by the same rules as the average person as if the average person could create a big tech company…or that they could either. Oddly enough, Apple is probably in less of a fix as the other four, by these bills definition.
There are several standards in regards to home automation. Reaching back into the Jurassic age there was X-10 which made it possible to connect several devices to a home security monitored (by someone else) system. However it wasn’t very interactive once set up. Coming into the modern age besides Apple’s Homekit there’s Belkin’s Wemo (now discontinued), SmartThings, Ankuoo, D-Link, and TP-Link amongst others.

Today Guy is in Walton country apparently he’s decided that he and his his family are going to spend time together and have no electrical equipment so they all have to call out goodnight to each other. Though before they reach their destination we did try to connect with Guy but couldn’t.

According to some, Apple and Google’s market dominance in Smartphone operating systems is stifling competition. While some of their points are valid, they also are ignoring the consequences of opening the ecosystems to everyone.
WWDC is coming up in less than a month so we’re bound to hear about all the great changes in Apple’s various operating systems for developers. Except there’s one that rules above all the others. Be advised there's no after show this week due to some technical issues with the recording software. Everyone seems very upset with Apple for how hard it is to switch between iOS and Android if you decide to leave the platform. Is it all that hard and what are some of the costs involved? Also, we try to not curse on the MyMac Podcast, but sometimes we mess it up.
No March event and the crop of “we don’t actually know anything, but refuse to shut up about it” websites and “journalists” seemed to maybe have learned a lesson about announcing Apple events and are staying quiet. So let’s talk about that….which verifies and justifies the time spent on stupid rumour stories to get podcasters to talk about it, however it doesn’t count for us since we’re doing it IRONICALLY!
Life was so much simpler back in the day. You’d grab a microphone, turn on something to record yourself, and you were good to go. Now it’s all about social media, multi-channel DAWs recording into a livestream while monitoring chat and trying to keep yourself from getting strikes that could collapse the whole house of cards. OH, and still trying to be interesting. Or maybe that’s just Guy.
Five MyMac Podcasts ago was our 550th one. It was mentioned just before and here we are mentioning it after but not exactly on the date. Why? There may be one of two reasons. Either we thought it would be funnier this way during our daily MyMac production meetings or…we forgot after talking about it the week before. Also there’s some stuff we’d like to see, go away, or come back. Sometimes all three at once.
Other than rumours, there’s been no recent talk from Apple about the next round of M-series computers, but a lot of people have been talking about the iMac as possibly the next Mac to get the MMMMMM put in it.
Several US states are trying to advance laws meant to let developers distribute and sell apps outside of Apple’s iOS App Store. North Dakota, Minnesota, and Arizona all have bills in the works to prevent Apple from retaliating against developers that use other means to distribute their apps.
Loving that free subscription to AppleTV+ that you have with your purchase of an Apple thingy? Or is it part of your Apple One subscription? OR maybe you’re leeching it off from someone else along with Netflix. Well however you’ve gotten it, is there enough content for you to keep you coming back? No? There might be based on Apple’s trailers just released for their 2021 lineup.
Will there be a March Apple Event? What might be announced? Since we broke the ice with sheer speculation last week with all the talk about the fictional Apple Car that remains to be seen, why not shove our noses deeper into rumors since everything seems to be a bit rehash-y at the moment.
Apple’s car business which doesn’t exist in public other than CarPlay, 14 million blogs and podcasts, and analysts saying it does, took another step toward not being a fantasy which it still is, by poaching Porsche execs and denying everything by saying nothing at all about it. Which means it’s DEFINITELY going to happen…maybe…or maybe not. And you can take that to the bank because you got the straight scoop from the GMen!

When you have a conference that's usually in Las Vegas, one of the least distraction-free cities anywhere in the world, is it still as much fun if it goes virtual? Some think yes as you can get right down to business, others say NOOOOOOO, I want my lights and glimmer! Also the GMen talk more about the NFL and make a few game prediction (some were wrong).
These days it's easy to believe that when you have a problem you can resolve it by throwing a little bit of Science-Fu at it. However sometime when that doesn't work, what do you do? Easy, throw some other kind of science at it instead. Because when it comes to science, one solution may not work in all situations.
For the first show of the year, the Men get very silly with weird digital masks that you can view if you watch the show over on YouTube. Also, It’s the start of a brand new year but the same old GMen so don’t believe for one instant that 2020 doesn’t still have some punishment for you…in fact, you should probably STILL be mad at 2010 which is when we started.

If there is still one thing missing from the M1 Revolution, it’s Windows on the M1 for those that still need to run it. Can it be done in a way that makes sense? Also the GMen use Zoom to record this time. Better than Skype? Might have been if they knew what they doing.
Somehow even with not that much going on, the GMen serve up an extra long show. Guy retires his 2017 iMac from active duty while Gaz sells both his Intel Mac minis in preparation for an M1 Mini. Then they go down the list of a lot of what Apple does and make some predictions as to what MIGHT be down the pike-pipe.

Most of the reviews in for the M1 Macs have been pretty positive except for those that are unhappy you can’t take a microprocessor apart to add more RAM.
In the same week as the announcement of M1-based Macs, Big Sur has also been released for the general public and it goes to 11! Well the new MacOS version does anyway and with that update comes general compatibility issues and major questions about if the M1 processor is all that and a bag of crisps (or chips depending on where you’re listening to this).
Sigh…sure there just HAD to be another event this year to announce the new Apple Silicon-based Macs. Why? Because obviously they didn’t already have their plans made or designs locked down before LAST month’s only 1 hour pre-recorded event. No video last week because eCamm’s Call Recorder (which is getting harder and harder to use) can’t handle more than one person at a time.
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who use HomeKit and those that just don’t understand it…like the GMen for example. Pssst! They’re in the “don’t understand it” camp. Fortunately Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth Podcast is here to explain so that even Guy MIGHT understand it…maybe.
My oh my how that little streaming serviced that a lot of people ragged on for not enough content (the GMen included) has grown up. After testing the waters with a big exclusive with Tom Hanks Greyhound World War 2 adventure, Apple and Netflix are rumored to be in the running for the latest (and reportedly last one with Daniel Craig) oft-delayed James Bond flick “No Time to Die”. Big news for sure, but is there more to it?
Not a single iPod sock or HiFi (sort of) was announced at the Apple Event much to Guy’s disappointment. However there was some more expected products to come to light, mainly the iPhone 12 in its various iterations and while the product wasn’t that surprising, the $99 price tag mostly was for the HomePod Mini
ANOTHER Apple Event scheduled for next week. Most people thinks it’s for the iPhone 12, but Guy has a sneaking suspicion it’s for a new iPod HiFi and updated iPod Socks. Also best wishes to all the friends and family of Eddie Van Halen who sadly passed away from cancer last week.
This weeks Apple stories got juicier as the week went by, but the real issue this week is what on earth is Gaz going to do with a dead mans Mac. Also Epic vs Apple is back in the news and the GMen give a bit a talk-about it.
Apple buys a startup called Scout FM which is meant to create Smart Stations of podcasts based on various topics chosen by the podcast creators. So if a podcast says its focus is on Technology, Business, or say, Sports, then Scout will build a playlist around those topics for you. Sounds like a topic
There was an Apple event where the main attraction was an evolutionary Apple Watch. They threw in iPads, mobile device OS updates, and service bundles, but the main pull was the watch. The GMen make a small change to the show, but it isn't at all subtle and you'll know it because they'll tell you.
So by ring we really mean Apple services, because one service to rule them all would be a dumb title. And our titles are ALWAYS great! Except when they aren’t. Some video issues this time out so there won't be a video podcast this week but Big Sur will straighten ALL that out...once the apps work that we use.
With everyone working from home and trying to get the equipment they need to do video conferencing, pricing has gone through the roof as availability have gone through the floor. Maybe, JUST maybe you don’t need that fancy webcam or expensive microphone (Guy is sobbing now quietly in the corner) to get the job done when you likely have everything you need already.
So no podcast last week (TOTALLY Gaz's fault for not being able to do the show and believing that Guy had it covered...so yeah...Gaz's fault) and the GMen make up for it with LOADS and OODLES of Gaz's Snippets! So everyone should be caught up now OK?
Epic Games smash hit Fortnight is removed for violating Apple’s rules regarding in-app purchase for digital content. Epic did this deliberately to try and force a showdown with Apple (and Google) over their policies restricting in-app purchases to just through their payment systems (which takes a cut).
New iMacs are out and normally we'd be pretty excited about it especially with these specs, but it also feels sad knowing that this could be the very last Intel Mac Apple ever releases. Also fun with traffic, actually there's NEVER fun with traffic.
Is a conference that no one can physically attend still a conference. As it turns out, yes it can be with the right planning. Mike Potter from the For Mac Eyes Only podcast and organizer since the beginning in 2015 of the Macstock Conference and Expo Joins the GMen as they discuss everything that went right (and the virtually zero things that went wrong) from Virtual Macstock 2020.
Weirdness all the way around on this show as Guy is challenged to record a podcast in a virtual room with lots of other people talking that has little to nothing to do with the podcast. So he does succeed...kinda, but there's some echo and other bizarre happenings. Hey it was the Virtual Macstock Conference and Expo so why wouldn't it be weird?
While the iPad Pro is an amazing device (as well as the iPad that spawned it), it just can’t as easily do what a MacBook Pro or otherwise is capable of doing.
No Guy this week as he may (or may not) be moving furniture and heavy boxes for his son (also named Guy...because imagination and all that) but there is STILL a show as Gaz reaches deep into the depths of his soul for yes, Gaz's Snippets. C'mon it's right in the title for Zod's sake.
After years of (some would say) neglect, the Mac is once again first and foremost in the minds of Apple! Well maybe not first, but no longer an afterthought
The thing Guy said would happen and then said wouldn't happen happened catching no one (except Guy) by surprise. So Intel Macs are going out and Silicone Macs are coming in. Probably not the best time to buy a Mac...or that's what Guy thinks and his track record is SPOTLESS! Meanwhile Gaz shakes his head in disbelief.
Monday is that thing we’ve all been waiting for and talking about non-stop until we’re sick of it! Except NOW Apple said something to hack off all the free app developers out there…or something. Hard to tell what to to be outraged about this week. Simon Parnell answered our Saturn Moon Titan question from last week and the answer is, 14,630.4 years for that moon to be 1 mile further in orbit. A nice fresh custom made WOOTie was sent.
Just about one week away until we find out if all the analysts were right and Guy was wrong about the Mac going to ARM at the virtual WWDC. Put your money on the analysts.
Yet ANOTHER week mostly stuck at home and like all good vampires, we’re becoming allergic to sunlight, mirrors, and garlic…maybe not garlic. Guy bought an old Dell Windows PC (from 2013 no less) and he'shaving a lot of fun finding out just how slow what a fast computer can be. Trying to play 10+ year old games on a 7+ year old computer. JOY! Some serious (somewhat) talk about monopolies too.
So no video last week because stuff was broken…for once not by Guy or because of Guy, or due to Guy doing something wrong. There’s a first for everything. One benefit of using Apple products is that they last typically a very long time. Can you use older Mac and Apple gear and still do the latest stuff? Also we interrupt the show to watch a rocket take off.
Some stuff in the works? Other stuff on hold? Do we really know for sure? ABSOLUTELY NOT! But we’ll spend a lot of time talking about it anyway! Lastly, there is FINALLY a really good reason why no one will put Guy in charge of the world….and it involves ducks.
Gaz and Guy take social distancing to the EXTREME by talking thousands of miles away from each other but do admit they don’t wear masks while podcasting. Also, why is it that the winners of these class action lawsuits seem to be mostly lawyers?
So the MyMac Podcast has been around for 800 shows. If you count the mini shows and one offs, it’s really been way more than that, but let’s just deal with 800 official MyMac Podcasts. So our official position is, let me know when we hit 1000. Also, we just passed the 84th anniversary of the Hindenburg disaster.
Valve has decided that SteamVR, their platform of choice to work with virtual reality software and hardware, will not work with the macOS. This…shall not stand. Guy wants to to experiment with eCamm’s Call Recorder maybe with this very show! Or not
The new iPhone SE has arrived at Guy’s house and notifications related to Wi-Fi calling are driving him insane-ier. Not just a new iPhone but also the Magic Keyboard for the 11 and 12.9-inch 2020 AND 2018 iPad Pros have been released. But the GMen actually don't spend a lot of time talking about them.
Alright not a real BIG surprise that it was released, but the specs kinda were. Has the same processor as its iPhone 11 big brother and at a cost that nearly everyone can afford. Even Guy "might" have jumped in, but you'll need to listen to this extra-long show to find out. The after show is rated a little more PG-13-ish than usual too.
Just what that somebody is supposed to do isn't directly addressed by the GMen, but it's about tech news and not being stuck inside forever. Considering they had nothing to talk about 45 minutes before recording, this is one of the longest shows they've done in awhile, and the main subject is about should companies invest in dumb terminals to give to people stuck working from home?
As we all start going a little nuts over being stuck inside, take comfort in the fact that this is what it's like for the GMen...24 -7. Lots of rumors about a new low cost iPhone and WILL come out last week! Except it didn't.

After talking about it for FAR too long, Gaz and Guy finally reach show 500...which is this episode numbered 785. In this pinnacle episode, they announce the winners of the bumper contest, go over a little bit of news, discuss fun things to do with their wives, and find out that you have to be VERY careful when talking about what Apple shares may hit.
Gaz is not feeling well but like a trooper makes it to the show. They discuss their holidays, what potential directions the Mac might go in, and tamales. That's right...tamales.
Christmas gifts gone wrong but with the best of intentions! Hey it happens. Would Apple make a purely gaming Mac? Is that even a question? Apparently it is at least for this week. Also some discussion about Bootcamp and Gaz wants to track himself.
So this not a regular MyMac Podcast with all the stuff we normally do, but there are some familiar bits. Little warning, the language is saltier than normal, but nothing you couldn't say on network TV. Out pops Karl and Dean from the Mac and Forth podcast! It wasn't set up or contrived at all! We talk about the events over the last year and generally just have a good time. A longer show than we've done in awhile. If you like nonsensical meanderings about ultra-wideband technology that won't be adequately explained and an extra long after show with pub singers, then you'll LOVE this week's episode! If you don't...well you won't enjoy it as much.
Sir Jony has left the building, and Apple's leadership page on their website and there's no coming back from that...probably. Thanksgiving was wonderful for Guy and Gaz is getting all his walks in. The big question, is it really necessary to constantly upgrade your Apple stuff each year? Can you let it go few a few cycles?
So we go right from house colonoscopies (you had to be there) to talking about recent changes in laws surrounding privacy in certain countries. New bumpers from Karl Madden (Mac Forth Podcast) are freaking great. Only about 5 more podcasts to get your bumpers in for the contest!
So there's a new 16 inch MacBook Pro but the GMen completely ignore it because frankly, EVERYONE else was talking about it already. Instead they talk about the Goldman Sachs algorithm used to determine credit worthiness for the Apple Card. Sound boring? Is this your first time here?
With all the changes in Apple over the last few years, their BIG growth hasn't been with phones or computers, but with services and the bottom line is starting to reflect that. The GMen have a lengthy discussion about that and naturally resolve the entire issue...sure we did.

Guy is back from Texas and Gaz is ready to to multi-task with podcasts. The big question, should you go ahead and upgrade to macOS Catalina or hold off until it's more mature along with any apps that aren't ready for prime time.
So Guy called me 5 mins before the podcast to say that he wanted to be known by another name today so as per his request I’d like to say hi to Karl. We discuss Apple Arcade and also what we think Apple might bring to another event, that is if they have one.
This refers to Guy installing and playing with macOS Catalina and not a general statement about the GMen and their work ethics...though it could be. Some new stuff and new problems with various Apple gear fill out the remainder of the show and one VERY generous PayPal person.
iOS 13 is out and the GMen have things to way about it. Also Apple Arcade can now be experienced but just on the smallest possible screen. They both also probably want new iPhones, but won't admit it.
Disasterish birthday and crappy vaca plus too bust at work makes Guy a sad boy, but Gaz and Apple is here to cheer him up with new stuff...that he doesn't want to buy. The GMen talk a lot about that Apple event because that's what they do.

Guy is back from his techmergency trip to help his brother. He spent more trying to leave however than he did actually IN Florida and his weird adventure is all laid out here. Gaz is happy Guy is back because that means he doesn't have to do a solo show. Our listeners are happy because...because...well, they MUST be happy about something.
The show nearly didn’t happen in fact Gaz called out on the Twitters and on Facebook that there would be no show, but this is the show that is and not the show that isn’t. Gaz got his stuff together well as much as he could and put a short something together for your ears.
The show was almost called something else, but Guy was too confused to do it right, so Gaz rolled his eyes and left it alone. Knob is actually a Bluetooth exploit that Apple has patched, but you still shouldn't be complacent about it. Gaz's iMac is also still not at all well, so he's using an old Mac mini that doesn't have his stuff just as Guy announces his latest trip to somewhere else.
What do you get when Apple tells you everything is just fine with your hardware but it still isn’t working? A computer that still isn’t working. In this case, it's Gaz's iMac that has a list of potential issues.

MAN doesn't the price of the new Mac Pro, Display, and mount get you SO ANGRY?!? Why? If you have to question whether it's worth it, chances are Apple isn't trying to see it to you. However upon reflection...that damn mount!

They actually talk very little about WWDC as it will probably have already happened by the time most listen to this. However developers are angry! So VERY angry for...reasons! Also more about chicken...so there's that.
The GMen are back together and this is supposed to be a good thing...you can probably decide that for yourself. They talk about a lot of random stuff and then get into what might be coming for WWDC!
Gaz arrives back and Guy is now away, will they ever do a show together. Gaz calls a special guest when Gaz realise's that there's no Guy on the other end of the Skype call. This week the special guest talk about where Apple might go (well briefly) and also a little more detail on Macstock 2019.
While it might not be EXACTLY dead, it isn't at all well and guest host Dave Ginsburg from the "In Touch with iOS" and the "Off the Charts Horse Racing" podcasts and Guy have a chat about it. Also tariffs, predators, the new DC Apple Store, and what iPhones might be dropped for iOS 13.
Gaz is off walking (VERY GREEN) while Guy ropes in Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth Podcast to burn off electricity to make a podcast (not at all green). Besides the usual stuff, they talk about what carbon neutral means and doesn't mean and how power from all green sources isn't always what you might think it is.
OK, listen carefully. There is NO after show in this MyMac Podcast. Seriously...none...zip...nada. We're actually trying to make a concerted effort to get the show length down, so we naturally easily went over an hour. Maybe later this week we'll put out a supplemental after show, but it's not in this one. What is in this one is Guy's new teeth, Gaz's news snippets earlier than usual, and lot's of other stuff. STOP looking at the end for the after show!
Sure it's 750 podcasts but the GMen were only around for 465 of them. To celebrate, Guy changes his audio setup...again, Gaz is doing a bunch of traveling, and neither of them like Star Trek Discovery. They take their time making fun of the US Congress, Apple Arcade, Huawei...eay...uol...or however you spell or pronounce that company's name, Qualcomm, and Samsung. Easy targets all.
A longer show if you include the after show but shorter than the short show from last week if you don't. Got it? Good. Guy is upset about the AAF shutting down and Gaz is upset that Numbers isn't Excel. They're BOTH upset that Apple watches are making the news but not in a good way and that AirPower is impossible. Apple's Airpower that is since regular air power is easy as pie but not for Apple...So Apple Pie...oh never mind.
What if Apple had an event and a lot of people didn't like it? That's the question Gaz and Guy attempt to answer in this early and supposed to be shorter podcast. However it ended up nearly as long as every other podcast. Well of COURSE it did.
Guy is finally back from his east coast extravaganza where he and Tracey spent a significant amount of time not feeling well. Gaz finally has a music snippet for Gaz's news snippets, and they discuss all the new Apple hardware. It's enough to make you feel like a Funky Poodle.
And the lull ends, so there is an Apple event at the end of March and I think they’ve announced the timings for the WWDC ticket lottery. So the End of March event could have a Who’s who of celebrities turning up, I wonder why? Talking about celebrities as Guy is still frightening the locals somewhere in the depth south Karl Madden has joined me.
We seem to be in a lull at the moment, and even Guy has decided it’s so quiet he’s going to disappear for 2 weeks, so this week I roped in, I mean I asked and he kindly accepted the invite Nick Spligosh Riley
Apples gives and then takes away...layers of confusion and it's hard to say whether this was a good thing to take or a bad thing to give. Could be both. Meanwhile the GMen don't dwell on it because of a short attention span and instead talk about ideology, Steve Jobs, the FBI, East Texas, and streaming game services. Oh and some kerfuffle about Facebook and privacy but hey, it's Tuesday.
The GMen are not overly fond of analysts and all their blather, so when two directly contradict each other, it cause for a case of the giggles...or sniffles in Guy's case. Guy also keeps hearing about ARM-based Macs and Gaz keeps poking him for reactions!
No podcast last week because Guy was at death's door! That's IF "Death's door" was sniffling, a little coughing, and making everyone around him miserable by complaining. Come to think of it, many did want to kill him before he felt better. This week though, they catch up on all the MyMac stuff, a little news, if Apple should buy Netflix, and laughing that Samsung wants to open exclusive Samsung stores.
Guy manages to half destroy his mancave and Gaz wants to go museum hopping! Also, Apple sells a lot of stuff but not as much as they promised they would (proooooomised!), FaceTime flaws, and Google/FaceBook did a naughty thing!
Yes the GMen are without direction. Yes, they meander all over the place. No, that doesn't have anything to do with the show's title. It's a not very clever way to bring up a Macintosh Emulator. They also have a non-second section technical talk about all kinds of things and maybe they'll start doing that in the second section too...unless they forget.
There's a great reason why the show has this name, but Guy can't remember what it is. What he does remember is that buying stuff at Wish is not typically a wish granted. Gaz is editing his time-lapse videos on an iPad instead of his Mac and hacks and viruses just aren't what they used to be. Lastly, feeling nostalgic for older Apple products? Well like bad food they may be back up again!
It's traction distraction, what's your fractions? Guy LOVES microphones and he's disappointed when a cheap one outperforms an expensive one...especially after he's bought both! Gaz is distracted by time...and time-lapse. But isn't time-lapse something that happens anyway? Oh and we suppose the Consumer Electronic Show in Vegas is worth a mention or two.
So it's planes, lawsuits, the Queen of England (naturally), iPhone sales in China, time-lapse, and vodka. Especially vodka. And trying to find a cursor...without cursing.
Happy significant milestone that neither Gaz nor Guy remembered until this week everyone! Oh, and apparently a major religion is getting ready to celebrate the birth of the Messiah some 2000+ years later. Man at least the GMen were only a week off! Mr. Yankello redoes some graphics for Guy and Gaz can't get enough of HomeKit. Also, Ming-Chi Kuo gets mentioned a lot, bent iPads are A-OK with Apple, and when is 5G that isn't 5G, 5G? When AT & T says it is.
Gaz and Guy are back after a deserved by someone anyway week off. Almost completely without notes and any kind of structure which leads to hilarious shenanigans. Gaz's got some stories and Guy just loses it several times.
Gaz is away so David Ginsburg from the Off the Charts and In Touch with iOS podcasts joins Guy for what ended up being the third time this week so he's already tired of Guy's nonsense probably. All the usual stuff and a discussion over whether or not the new Mac mini could be used as a pro machine.
While this might seem like a redundant statement (the GMen being turkeys), it fits in nicely with that American holiday of over-eating, full contact shopping, and apparently being grateful for something or another. Lots of MyMac stuff as appetizers, CarPlay, analysts, and Black Friday deal fails as the main course, and all the usual after stuff for...afters. YUM!
A question that can only be answered by listening to the show because their minds work (kinda) in mysterious ways. The GMen run through the news like they were taking a machine gun nest with a take no prisoners attitude...except without the actual fighting, explosions, and so forth so not nearly as exciting or life threatening.
Well they certainly wouldn't respond to THIS show! Gaz is away and Karl Madden joins Guy which is a good thing because he had all KINDS of issues...tech related. Thought I better throw that in there.
Apple renews its old stuff and the GMen are all over it! Well not literally because that would be really uncomfortable but they do talk about it!
Gaz's iPhone XR shows up and he likes it but thinks his wife and Lil Gaz will believe it's too big because size matters. Guy leaves stuff behind, not like anything bad like you should, but valuable stuff because he's dumb sometimes. Lot's of Apple stories and they enjoyed it SO much, they recorded it three times! OK, that part they didn't enjoy.
Guy is still sick, but it's adding a certain level of...Guy still being sick. Gas fixes his mouse and Mac App Store, and the two of them talk about all kinds of Apple and Mac stuff...because that's what they do.
Guy is not feeling well and he's a miserable person when that happens, but it leads to hilarious hijinks! Gaz finally gets an answer from 1Password, but it's almost indecipherable. And naturally all the usual nonsense you've come to expect from the GMen.
And he’s back yep Karl again steps in to help out as Guy is away sunning himself on his private island retreat that he’s purchased after winning the lottery.

Gaz and Guy rope Karl Madden back to the show again to talk about iOS 12, new iPhones and watches, another Android phone maker trying to market their stuff off Apple, and where the heck are those AirPower chargers anyway?
New Apple iPhones and a watch and nary a Mac in sight. Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth podcast joins Gaz and Guy to talk about and listen to Guy whine...I mean speak intelligently about this sad state of affairs.
OK, Tar...if...c'mon tariffs. Alright not my best analogy. Gaz is out on walk-a-bout and Dave Ginsburg of "In Touch with iOS" joins Guy to talk about Shazam, more Alex Jones, and a malware app that acts like...malware and gets you to actually PAY for it.
After a week off for REALLY good reasons (really they were!), the GMen are fresh and ready to go as usual! So, Guy is particularly manic and Gaz is doing his level best to keep him in check which nearly always sometimes never works! They talk a bit about the upcoming event, walking holidays, amusement parks, weddings and a few other things including waffles.
Guy can't talk like Arnold without going all French on everyone, Gaz is out of his bedroom, and of somewhat lesser importance some kid hacked Apple and grabbed lots of stuff.
Hang overs, feeling weirdly normal, and pantomiming River Dances is all part and parcel of this week's show where apparently they also talk about something serious like malware. Can you sing one song to the tune of another? Harder than it sounds, but is hilarious.
Guy falls asleep when he could have been podcasting so they record on his wife's birthday instead because how could THAT go wrong? They toss about Apple's trillion dollar worth and why it hasn't also made them rich and Cupertino being all fussed because Apple made money and they want some of it. Also, why NOT make a Hyperloop transportation system that goes 800MPH through residential neighborhoods?
Gaz and Guy finally manage to be the internets at the same time to record a podcast! What are they effing stupid? A real menagerie of topics in the center section and a LOT about Macstock 2018.
A little late getting this out mostly because I was driving home, but it's a good one! Tim Robertson starts us off with Silent Brooke, then it's Bob "Dr. Mac" Levitas, followed by Chuck Joiner, and lastly Mike Potter creator of the Macstock Expo.
Being the summer of duh fits RIGHT into the GMen’s wheelhouse! So many stories of the obvious and the inane because otherwise, well there wouldn’t be much of a show based on actual events! Motley Fool, Adobe, Subscription services, and new MacBook Pros that neither of us can afford round out the rest of the podcast.
Gaz watches cars go zoom so Guy grabs Karl Madden from the Mac & Forth podcast to fill in. This will make up for when Guy is Driving to Chicago is a car going zoom on his way to Macstock and Gaz will do the podcast with someone else...maybe Karl. Technical difficulties wipe out the center section so they had to do it again, but this time is was better...which is not how that usually goes. Spotify, Mojave, disgruntled employees, and so much more!
A loooooong delay while we worked on some technical issues on Gaza's side, but we narrowed it down to three things. Hardware, software, or the internet. So should be easy to narrow down from there. Speaking of the internet, Skype used to be awful, now it's horribly, unspeakably, Micheal Myers kind of bad. Apple will finally use it's own data for maps because that can't go wrong, There either is or isn't a brute force hack of iOS (there isn't), and someone in Canada can't figure out that scratch resistant isn't scratch proof because he's really dumb.
So where ARE the new Macs? This and a trip to Boise, analysts critiquing analysts, silly Canadians, and so much more! Join the GMen in a show filled with fun and nonsense! Woo and woo!
So like nearly everyone else, the GMen Talk about the recent WWDC developer's conference but with their own special spin. They REALLY hope you like spinning because this show ended up being much longer than usual. Gaz also has car troubles and Guy has trouble finding a car.
Gaz is away but Guy is still in the UK zone as Simon Parnell joins him to talk about VPN's (and why some countries hate them) and data privacy in regards to the EU's GDPR and the still being debated ePrivacy Act. And just general silliness.
Both Guy and Gaz are tired but manage to stay awake long enough to record a show that includes a little bit of Mac news, a few laughs, and Guy's fiery moments of uncontrollable rage! A few technical glitches make their way in too.
Gaz is back but this week Guy has gone, that could be good, or equally it could be bad! Don’t panic though has has a guest who he finds out hasn’t been on before, shocker! Simon AKA Serenak joints Gaz and brings some intelligence the the show, finally I here you say. So does Gaz care well you’ll have to listen particularly to the middle section, but with Gaz’s view from his garden you might already guess the answer.
Gaz is back for at least this week which is great because Guy will be gone next week. Keep this up GMen and you won't get paid! Meanwhile will Apple be the first company to reach a one trillion dollar market cap? Maybe, but we won't see any of it.
Because Guy can barely pay attention to ...well anything, he forgot that Gaz wasn't going to be this week and hadn't set up to record with anyone else. He talks about seeing the new Avengers flick, Apple financials, and the potential for broken microphones in iPhones after updating to iOS 11.3
Next week is the annual report from Apple when we find out once and for whether or not all those people predicting doom and gloom for Apple are right or wrong. Until next quarter that is. The GMen also talk about updates,Irish tax bills, and the UK's Year of Engineering! Whatever THAT's all about.
So the GMen are tired of dancing around this, the world is filled with dumb arsed analysts and every media outlet seems determined to give them a platform to speak from. They do the show live (still in testing) on FaceBook, and are very sorry they missed last week and promise it will never happen again unless it does.
When is an 8th anniversary actually a 10th anniversary? Well...never. Lot's of Brou-ha-ha over stuff like less apps in the iOS App Store than last year, ARM vs X86, iOS apps to the Mac and lots of little things that lead to a full show.

Getting excited about Macstock 2018? The Men are and they dragged...INVITED Mike Potter and Barry Fulk who just happen to be the driving force behind Macstock on to the podcast to talk about what's going on this year. They also consented (not forced!) to being on video, so you can actually WATCH too!
Which pretty much sums up how most people feel about Apple but they don't have a podcasts and we do! We're doing a little experiment by also recording video (that will be out later) that hopefully will eventually entice people to sign up to our Patreon account or make them leave us in droves. If you leave though you'll miss stuff on wearables, finances, Buffett (Warren not Jimmy) and our continuing hate affair with analysts. So yeah, don't miss that.
Guy gets a new-wish iMac and has to reconfigure his entire set up which he naturally did like a BOSS! Or like, extremely lucky that anything works at all. All their stories has an international flavor, hence the name of the show, and we getting SO close to 700 that you can almost taste it if it wasn't just digital bits.
Is this some kind of crazy new math? Have the GMen lost their minds? Well, yes but not because of this. Apple makes a disproportional amount of profit as compared to their marketshare, one bad unicode can spoil the bunch girl (Jackson 5 reference if you didn't know), the HomePod leaves a ring around the collar, and Apple's wearable market by itself could be a Fortune 300 company. All this and their usual silliness.
The GMen talk about 5G. A subject neither knows much about, but that's never stopped them before and this time is no different. Gaz is excited about Apple's HomePod but isn't exactly sure why and Guy is mad at his dental insurance company but knows EXACTLY why.Oh and at some random point they talk about the last Super Bowl for some reason.
No nudity is involved (thank God) but there may be a snake or two. Meanwhile the GMen briefly go over Apple's quarterly results and then tear apart a writer for a certain website that they think is an idiot. And when the GMen think someone ELSE is stupid, that's really saying something.
You can call me Al, but there's no point as we're talking about A.I. Artificial Intelligence, not Aladdin or Chevy Chase from a popular song from many years ago. But Wait! There's MORE! Chromebooks, HomePods, OS Updates that Guy STILL can't do, and Apple Buses being attacked.
What does the Empress Wu Zetian, leap years, and Beretta shotguns have in common? Guy's wife leaves him...again, but he has a big ass heavy backpack to keep him company, Gaz's iMac seems slow, Apple will pay more in tax in a single day that no single person ever will probably pay in their lifetimes. Also is Apple falling behind and Sir Jonny speaks!
Weird, but the title seems redundant. Micronesia and their Chinese food delivery industry is briefly discussed, another macOS password problem, CES wants Apple...BAD, the US Congress doesn't understand tech (shocker), and a speaker says that the 4 biggest US companies were founded by immigrants or their children...like every US company...ever.
Gaz couldn't make it this week, so David (sometimes known as Brian) Ginsburg from the In Touch with iOS podcast jumped in with very little blackmail involved! They go over the usual stuff and have a talk about the Intel and ARM processor exploits all the cool kids are talking about. It was speculatively executed with great precision!
Last show for 2017 and the GMen knocked it out of the park! Granted it was a pretty small park and slightly run down, but it was knocked out! LOT'S of MyMac articles because they didn't do it last week and they had some special guests to help with that. Then like every other podcast they talked about Apple and something about batteries. Lastly they give ALL their resolutions for the 2018! Or they would have if they had thought of it at the time which they didn't!
Didn't want to leave you guys in the lurch for a show so just did a quick one describing our holiday plans mostly. Gaz's sound much better than Guy's since he's cooking for his family (poor family) but does have an iPhone 8+ to play with. There's a new iMac and it's a pro model. It frigging SHOULD be with a starting price of $5000. Guy doesn't like the YoLuke webcam, Gaz DOES like YouTube and neither are in the Christmas spirit until they started talking about Visogoths. Because NOTHING says happy holiday like barbarians at the gates.
400 episodes of the MyMac Podcast with Gaz and Guy and it only took them 685 episodes to get there! They talk about that also the HomeKit cockup, Amazon getting a little early publicity though they FINALLY get the Prime App out, and Google is less than pleased with them.
Just one more episode until we hit 400 shows! With this being that one more episode. Apple screws up royally on a number of fronts, and the GMen are NOT happy about the FCC's attempt to destroy Net Neutrality...err..advance the cause of Internet Freedom...or something
Yeah YEAH! Famous well known footballer references that made lots of money vs the GMen who...do a podcast. It's OK though because the reference actually has nothing what so ever to do with Beckham but bendable Apple keyboards. Also countries want more money from Apple and instead of changing the laws that made it possible for them to move their money out legally, they're going to add MORE laws because that's always worked in the past. Lastly, Google is Swiftly changing Fuchsia to some other color...or something
A real off the rails show even more so than usual (which is saying something). The GMen can't even get out of MyMac articles without something going horribly wrong, which is a source of great entertainment. Meanwhile, Apple is pre-loading High Sierra without asking (BAD FORM!), ISP's still want to sell you TV instead of data (BAD FORM!), and Apple's new Apple Park Visitor Center is now open with coffee, light snacks, and all the Apple gear your credit car can handle (BAD...well actually we're not sure).
Ever notice how hard it is to describe a problem and solution over audio? Guy never has and attempts to explain his current setup using stone knives and bearskins...or a 2 mix minus setup with a Mac Pro and Mac Mini. Still confused? That will continue even after the explanation. The GMen talk about how the iPhone doesn't like the letter "i", tax havens, why the iPhone 8 isn't selling as well as others think it should, and so much more.
Just FIVE shows away from what is sure to be an AMAZING 400th episode! Or NOT! In this one though they talk about Apple's financials and the possibility that the problems the Pixel 1 screen had MIGHT come to bite Apple too. Oh also Meatloaf and Tim Curry somehow.
Gaz is away and Karl Madden is kind enough to jump in. They talk about the double standard of how the tech press treats Apple versus other tech companies. Karl talks about ordering the iPhone X, an Apple Watch with LTE, and health apps. Then weird tangents about Star Trek, media companies, and Guy ranting about paid services with ads.
Bad news for Jason Isaacs as 15 minutes of QUALITY talk about his film career is gone after Guy's computer crashes and crashes hard. So they talk about THAT, KRACK, Facebook and publishing, Malware, and the Mac Mini.
6-8 year old Apple Cinema Display looks WAY better that a 2 year old Gateway monitor...duh. Gaz ALMOST has this time lapse camera thing figured out...almost. The Men play a game that has a certain politician's name but it isn't about him. SHHH! Don't tell him, he get's jealous. OH! Also someone used the Skype phone number!
We have acrobatic cats, mad about wifi/bluetooth/an inexpensive computer that STILL gets a GMan in trouble, intestinal distress, and peeing in parking lots. All before we get out of the intro to the show. AOL shuts down a bit of history, Bionic vs Fusion, Jonny Ive not talking about anything, and a discussion about what we'll talk about NEXT week. Hmm, seems like a full show for something so meh.
One is at home, the other is on the road. Look at the picture carefully to figure out who is who. Ohio is burning with hot chili and cool peppers. High Sierra is out, the FCC is mad because Apple won't turn on non-existent radios, and everyone is afraid of Macs with old firmware that actually doesn't mean all that much.
Most updates from Apple go pretty smoothly, some do not. While the updates themselves weren’t an issue for the GMen, Some of the changes in iOS 11 were a little painful. They talk about that and other updates and why you should say “Pawn Shop” very carefully.
Following what is seemingly the never ending stream of guest hosts, Gaz is away and Guy asks Melissa (the MacMommy) Davis to join in on what became one of the most stream of consciousness MyMac Podcasts ever. They talk about the new Apple stuff eventually.
All kidding aside, please take a moment to give generously to the charity of your choice to help some of those in need after the recent weather related problems. Speaking of weather related problems, Guy’s brother Larry escapes from South Florida to th wilds of Northern Virginia and joins the GMen on the podcast. Equifax takes a grilling, Apple’s TV programing (or lack thereof gets smacked around, and Apple’s UK Music Festival gets tossed into the dumpster. Just FULL of good news aren’t we?

For one week anyway, Guy and Gaz manage to record a podcast. Guy has had two teeth removed by an actual dentist and not by someone he managed to get mad at him and Gaz is really busy doing work and home stuff. Also his purple line issue is resolved. Why won’t Apple join the Advanced Mobile Location platform, Amazon want to make food that doesn’t spoil, and the iPad’s Smart Connector doesn’t seem to connect to all that much.

We have ALL kinds of minor delay issues which is so annoying, but they don’t let it stop the show…except…when they stop the show and then come back in. Guy is heading back from his vacation, white socks and sandals and all, so Gaz roped in Karl from the Mac&Forth show, they go through all the usual stuff and chat about Karl’s iMac and their use of iPads in the middle section, Gaz’s tip is a Menu Bar Wonder , well sorta!
Well the road experiment did work, sorta and we had Gaz on for the first section. Half the time he couldn’t hear us though. So after that, Guy talks to his son Peter and his video partner Jake in creating original content on YouTube on their Nano Bites page. It was all about how they create this content on their Macs. A weird blend of serious and wacky.
So WWDC is over and done with and the Men were pretty excited about the outcome. How excited? Well in about 20 minutes they’ll go over nearly everything talked about…though in not great detail. Guy changes his audio setup (AAAAgain) and wait till next week when recording while driving on I-95 will be attempted!
WWDC has probably happened since you’ve heard this, but the Men have much more important things to talk about. Like outrage at Eddy Cue, Google rigging results in their own favor, and password managers that have been compromised. Also a fun after show where neither Guy nor Gaz understand what the other is arguing about.
Lots of products that haven’t been updated and WWDC right around the corner. Should have been an interesting topic but it ended up not so much. No matter when Frisian still provides lots of entertainment value!
All the podcasts and analysts are getting excited about WWDC, but here on the MyMac podcast we’re not lowering ourselves to that sort of informative level.
Whether to be be smiling wisely and frightened beyond measure, many analysts are agreeing with Gaz that Apple’s interest in cars is as a service, not in the actual manufacturing of automobiles. Bloomberg wants to talk about tables, Apple makes a big glass out of itself with Corning, and sure, let’s give big government agencies backdoor access because based on the current ransomware they’re SO good at keeping it secret.
Regardless of what we say, Apple is NOT doomed. Especially with over 250 billion in the bank. Which we talk about in this show along with our vacation plans (because we can), Apple competes with Square and Venmo, and Apple has 80% of the smartphone market in China that sell for over $600.
So yet another piece of Malware that relies on the gullibility of computer users to infect themselves. Are you “that” guy? Apple making chips, but not to serve with fish, free apps extravaganza, and cutting rates to affiliate commissions is bad! Wait, no it’s good! What does it mean anyway? Lastly why are they talking about Grandma’s bottom?

MyMac Podcast 652: Death iTunes
iTunes is dead. Well not really, but it does seem like Apple is trying to make changes to it, one content category at a time. OS patches, Motion sensing passcodes, glucose monitoring watches, man we’re all over the place with this one.
Well Apple is screwing with our Imagination, wait no, they’re screwing with Imagination Technologies because they are going to use their mobile GPUs anymore. Since that’s a main portion of their business, they have no imagination about what to do next. Also, Apple to sell a TV bundle which doesn’t exactly set the world on fire innovation-wise and apparently Apple is one of the few truthful companies when it comes to battery life
Yeah so 650 episodes, big deal. It’s 365 episodes for the GMen a big yawn of a number. Gas has a hurt knee and Guy has a hurt neck so it’s also a big bag of hurt. They talk about Apple’s AR efforts, OS updates, Workflow and whether it’s a coming or a going, and intimate products with their relation to hand lotion.
The Turkish Crime Family have threatened the GMen! Yes, us and 559 million of our closest friends! Well, to be honest they have no idea who we are and we have no idea who they are. Apple knows though and iCloud users are being threatened with the destruction of their data if Apple doesn’t pay up! It’s all kinda Keystone Cop-like except this time the Keystoners are the criminals. Also, Guy MIGHT be right about something! Yeah, the Men can’t believe it either.
Guy and Gaz have a chat about taxes (who pays and who doesn’t), cloud services (who plays and who doesn’t), and how the press sometimes looks at Tim Cook (who neighs and who doesn’t). Also, vacations and repercussions afterwards.
Some reputations can’t be fixed (like the hosts of this show) and some get changed over the course of time. One half the GMen (Guy) discuss this with Karl Madden while the other half (Gaz) is off on vacation. Why? Because he can.
It’s dawn here in MyMac land except for Gaz where it’s almost noon. We talk about the differences between certain things and Shinola, podcasting while traveling at ludicrous speed, what the iPad might be good for in the future, why the Lightning port isn’t going anywhere, and just why eyeteeth are so darn valuable. Also nah nah to the people that pooh-poohed Apple stock recently and the questionable benefits of parallel parking a 1968 Mercury Colony Park Station wagon.
Another show with a variety of topics and longer than usual since we weren’t able to record last week. That’s a good thing right? On a weird note, Guy might be right about something and we’re told we’re a political show. What are the odds of that happening more than once?
The GMen are NOT scammers, they just don’t necessarily tell the truth when or if they ever say they’re good podcasters. No, this time it’s about OTHER types of scams that can affect your Mac experience and what to do about it when it happens to you. And LOTS of Google + feedback once again proving Guy wrong about social media.
So, Intel Macs? ARM based Macs? Just what’s coming down the road for Mac users everywhere? The GMen have their opinions which may or may not be based in anything that others consider reality. To be fair though, that’s never stopped them before.
Appfus? What the heck is Appfus? Sounds like a yummy German desert, but it’s actually something that will affect every Mac and iOS user very soon. Listen in while the GMen say things that may (or may not) be a topic of importance! No, we won’t make a regular habit of that. Also Guy gets taken to task for something said in a previous show.
Who doesn’t love to hear about failure? The Men talk about some of the biggest failures to come out of Apple and Google (mostly Google) and are serenaded by a Wookie. Well it sounded like one anyway

It’s a new year and Gaz is back and Guy is…still Guy. They talk about Apple Cars, Mac and iOS not merging, how vinyl sales beat downloads in the UK, and Apple passing 20 million subscribers for Apple Music. Lot’s of other nonsense too because that’s what they do.

I say, look on the bright side, 2016 is almost over and a more screwed up year might be possible, but I wouldn't want to live through it. Another solo show, kinda short because Guy is busy! A cornucopia of articles from MyMac that they butcher first won’t help them get off that and neither will all the different stories they talk about later. Next week is their 350th episode so not much time left to say why you listen!
A long title for a short(ish) show. Apple may stop making routers, Jony Ive make a forrest in a hotel, crappy Apple deals, and Frankenstein loves Christmas! How can two men make a show out of such diverse topics? They really don’t know either, and one of them seems lacking in brains. Or claims that anyway
Just when you thought it was safe to listen to podcasts again, Gaz and Guy get back together. Oh Em Gee, where to start with this show? They talk about dongles, Sal Soghoian’s departure from Apple, lack of a pro focus with latest releases, iPhone 6 flickering and freezing issues, that bloody book, and why Mrs. G can’t get apps working out of the dock.
We promised or maybe threatened that we would get back to this story and so we have. On an otherwise slow week where talking about the Touchbar AGAIN would just be boring, Gaz and Guy instead talk about UK Real Estate, dead people on Facebook, and used iPhones. Because we can.
Guy has a football game to go to,that American version of it anyway, so the GMen couldn’t find a way to match up the schedule. Fortunately Mark Chappell of the Essential Apple Podcast jumped in to keep that UK US mix happening and of course the show went completely off the rails AND went really long AND doesn’t have a 3rd section OR after show. How did that happen?
What if they had an Apple event and nobody liked it? Well that’s not fair as there were claps aplenty during the event and even the Men are split over whether or not it was a decent event. Gaz thought it was fine, but Guy was not a happy bunny. Somehow or another even Steve Jobs chimes in…sure he did.
What do you call rumors of a project never announced or confirmed being unofficially cancelled? A funny topic to be thoroughly explored (revoked and denied) by the GMen. Australian banks are all mad at Apple except for the one making lots of money off ApplePay, Samsung on fire jokes, a Drobo gets expanded, email gets fixed, a phone gets replaced, and apparently some new Macs will be out soon. However it isn’t confirmed and the GMen hate rumors…usually
Lots of little things that Apple seems to be doing wrong. Nothing major, but it’s enough to show there could be a problem. Guy and Gaz take a break from praising to wondering what the heck is going on? Also because there was no after show last week, this week it’s probably too long. Oh well.
Gaz and Guy wax poetically about the future of Apple hardware and probably have it all wrong. This has never stopped them in the past so why should this show be any different? Guy also has audio volume issues and is not happy, but again why should this show be any different?
What do USB-C, Lightning Connectors, unnamed ARM processors, LuLu, the Archies, Siri speaking, and general tomfoolery have to do with each other? As it turns out, they’re all on this podcast. Doesn’t necessarily make sense, but it IS Guy and Gaz.
More like looking for topics. Gaz and Guy have a great time talking about some of the problems they’ve had with the latest releases of iOS and macOS. But it still does down to SIMBL the White Lion errors. Oh and for the last time, Gaz did NOT release those Pippa Middleton pics so bug off!

So there was this Apple event that Gaz and Guy feel obligated to talk about. Guy goes full Sierra, Gaz has his first game, and we all learn about Squirkles. Lots of feedback, an iTunes review and (GASP!) a Skype phone call.
Gaza is back but about 3 seconds slower than usual. After taking a day off to wait for his ISP to get their heads out of their posterior, they talk a bit about the upcoming Apple event and whether or not an old Mac may fit your life better than a new one.
Gaz is off doing stuff, so Guy bribed…coerced…threatened…invited (yeah that’s the word) Karl Madden and Mark Chappell from the Essential Mac and Mac and Forth podcasts to come on. Just so he wouldn’t feel UK deprived you know. The main topic being why Apple has held off on updated Macs for so long and various conspiracies behind it. Most of which is probably not true…probably.
Gaz and Guy talk a bit about Google’s lost projects and apps, Samoan/Fiji Rugby, back to school stuff, and storage sheds. Yes it’s been one of THOSE weeks.
Victor Cajiao whose name gives Guy fits, joins the GMen to talk about audio. Hi end to low cost, there’s a little something for everyone here. Check out his podcast, the Terratech, which is all about tech that goes from mastering audio to how to grill meat!
So after the iPhone, what do you think is the number two money generator for Apple? Macs? iPads? The Apple Watch (yeah right!). Nope, believe it not, it’s Apple’s services including iTunes, iCloud, and many others. The Gmen explore this a bit before losing track of what it was they were talking about.
A lot of Guy this episode (too much really) as he talks about his experiences at Macstock 2016, before, during, and after. 10 minutes of audio that shall NEVER be heard and the two of them laughing a lot. So back to a regular show then right?
Gas is not in this one but lots of other people are including some from OWC, a few MyMac-ers, and a whole lot more all from Guy’s mobile podcasting rig. If you couldn’t be at Macstock, this is just as good. Actually no it isn’t but still fun!
A Rare mid-week show as Gaz is back to bookend the podcasts from the Macstock Expo except this one is coming out before the other one! Got it? Neither do they, so just sit back and enjoy!
Guy is at Macstock 2016! Gas id not but Guy figures out sneaky way to have him there virtually. They talk to attendees, speakers, random people walking by and a few other surprise guests.
No Gaz as he’s watching race cars go around in circles. However Guy soldiers on alone in the 1st and 3rd segment but has Mike Potter the creator of the Macstock Expo to talk about all the great speakers and fun coming up in just 5 days. Be there or be sorry you weren’t there.
Mark Chappell of the Essential Apple Podcast joins Gaz and Guy for a little more than a hour of confusion. This may be the first time they’ve actually recorded more “not in the show” than “show”! They go all over the map about Siri on the Mac, on the iPhone, and on the AppleTV. Fun, fun!
The old question pops up again. Is it better to update your Mac for a new (or newer) one or upgrade your existing one? Apple seems to be making that choice easier these days but in an odd way. Many Macs just simply can’t be upgraded at all. The Gmen talk about this serious question, but in their own way. So that means the question remains.
No short show this week, but the center section is filled with WWDC goodness as LIVE right from event, Guy recorded a conversation with Mac to the Future (It’s on FaceBook) Warren Sklar! Also in the first section Guy and Gaz give their own takes on Apple’s latest developmentally goodness. So, long show then.
Two weeks in a row and the GMen manage to get another show out under an hour. Is it kismet? Fate? A lucid and tight conversation between two professionals who know EXACTLY what they’re talking about? You’re kidding right? They do all the usual stuff and give some thought (HA!) to the upcoming WWDC, because that’s what Apple podcasts are supposed to do.
Free stuff is always great right? Except for when it isn’t. Gaza and Guy discuss some of the pluses and minuses-es-es of free online services. The only price you pay for this podcast is listening to it! OH! And there’s a now Patreon link in case you DO want to pay for it, but you don’t have to.

Gaz is off this week so Karl Madden of various other podcasts near and dear to our hearts graciously consented to join Guy on this week’s podcast. Karl, because of your dedication, the photos will not be released to the general public and your check is in the mail. They talk about Apple’s latest financials, butchers that perform eye surgery, how to turn Guy into a 3 year old (like anyone would notice), consumerism, Apple Watches, politics, and just how old can a Mac get and still be productive. Or in Guy’s case, stop being a cheapskate and get new stuff!
So there’s Rugby, Broadway shows, messed up MyMac articles, and iTunes rants. That’s just in the first section. The GMen then go on talk about Macs and if there’s the slightest chance of the platform moving to ARM processors. PHEW, I’m exhausted just writing it down.
The GMen take the lazy way out and instead of having one topic to focus on, kinda jump around to talk about odd bits and pieces. Because having an entire extra week to come up with a decent topic apparently wasn't long enough. Guy talks a lot about cats (as if the show graphic wasn’t enough of a clue) and rowing while Gaz is busy actually with tech. They wrap up the whole FBI vs Apple case, Apple’s increasing marketshare in an otherwise down industry, Safari now has a silver medal, and don’t click hacked links. Because, just don’t.
APRIL FOOL’S! No really, those two April fools Gaz and Guy record the 600th MyMac Podcast and the whole center section is devoted to two very detailed emails from Serene Asassin. Plus hijinks and general tomfoolery AND (wait for it) a deeply enlightened and well written piece of drama at the very end. Sure, let’s go with that answer.

So even after nearly an entire show talking about good backup strategy, Guy manages to hose his main user account because he’s…Guy. They talk about that, new Apple stuff, and more bitterness with iPads going to 256GB of storage not all that long after Guy bought a 128GB iPad Pro.
Feeling Loopy One day before the next Apple event and Gaz and Guy spend some time talking about what might be coming up. Then a completely different topic about how (or why) iOS could be the next big desktop OS for Apple…wait. What?
So let’s get serious here, no wait it’s Guy and Gaz who don’t usually do serious. However they are talking about a serious subject which is backing up your Mac. You AREN’T backing up your Mac? Good God man Why? Also they get a Skype phone call AND an iTunes review in the same week!
Soooo, yeah more Skype issues with Gaz (does his voice sound naturally deep to you too?) but the GMen don’t let it get in the way (much) with their interview with Mike Potter! Mike is not only the host of the For Mac Eyes Only podcast, but he’s also the creator of the Macstock Conference and Expo which will be taking place for round 2 on July 16th and 17th this year in Woodstock, Illinois. Guy WILL be there, Gaz MAY be there, will you?
So did you hear about the March Apple event? No? Probably because nothing has been announced yet. That didn’t stop the GMen from talking about it though with talk about Apple Watches, Mini iPad Pros, and a 4-inch iPhone that will most definitely be called…something.
So Apple is in a bit of a pickle these days. Seems everyone from the UK to New York to California wants them to create a way to break into iOS devices without the owner’s password. They want it SO bad they’re actually willing to quote an obscure 200+ year old law to do so. Because you know, the founding fathers were TOTALLY into smart phones.

And yes, the irony is not lost on the GMen. What isn’t stupid is signing for the Macstock Conference and Expo. So do that.
We know Apple wants to bundle a selection of television channels, but what if they not only served the content, but owned it too? Guy and Gaz talk about this, as well as recent Apple financials, megasnowpocolypse, a Skype call, multiple languages, a some kind of malady affecting Guy.
FINALLY got the show to under an hour but Skype problems and Virgin Media UK makes life hell for thee GMen. Hey why should it only be the listeners that have to suffer? The GMen also talk about the UK, New York, and now California initiatives to force mobile device makers to add a back door into our devices so they can see what stuff we’re doing. Sure, because how could THAT go horribly wrong?
Well we lost some good people last week namely David Bowie and Alan Rickman but we don’t give in to being Under Pressure and turn to page 394. Sorry do podcast 589 anyway. Guy talks a bit about the Remix Mini he got last week and Gaz talks about trying to return his broken one. A few short topics in the middle section and we call it a show.

Don’t you just get tired of those “Best of” shows? Well the GMen decide to turn that around and instead talk about the worst from Apple in 2015. Boy, talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
So the holidays are upon us and how better to celebrate than an extra long podcast with crackly bits courtesy probably from Skype! Even though we said we wouldn’t. Fortunately we can blame Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth podcast who joined the GMen this week. They talk about Star Wars (of course) that Karl and Gaz has seen and Guy hasn’t. Also some stuff about malware and programs that might seem legit but probably aren’t. Ho-ho-ho!
Well we finally get the whole 300th episode since Guy and Gaz took over blah, blah, blah so no more about that. Just in time to start hyping the 600th episode of the podcast so, yeah. Guy gets a new mixer, but don’t get too used to it, Gaz gets a new iMac, you can get used to that, Guy finally gets his iPad Pro…unless it’s just some clever mirage, but it’s Guy so he wouldn’t admit it anyway. The GMen eventually get around to 300, in a fashion, and lots of the stuff you listen to this show for. We apologize in advance.
Gaz has some family stuff going on and couldn’t make it this week, so Melissa Davis TheMacMommy agrees to subject herself to the terrors of doing a podcast with Guy. Still no iPad Pro for Guy since apparently AT&T wants to punish him because he’s, well Guy and because they can. Melissa is mad at Paula Poundstone because Paula thinks she knows something about tech (no), education (GOD no), and raising children (PLEASE GOD NO!). She also deploys a BILLON iPads (Melissa no Paula) which is probably closer to 28 than a billion. The 300th show will happen next week or whenever.
So WOULD Apple buy the rights to NFL games on Thursday nights and make them exclusive to the AppleTV? Guy and Gaz talk about this and other examples of how exclusive content has been used to entice people to buy hardware or services. That and all the usual nonsense that you’re used to hearing and for that they’re sorry.
The GMen have decided to start making a concentred effort to reduce the length of the shows. Naturally this means that THIS one turned out extra long. Guy buys an iPad Pro and a fun interview with Zack Turner, artist and co-creator of the Unlife webcomic rounds out this weeks shenanigans.
Gaz is more than happy to let Guy be the guinea pig for the new AppleTV but as it turns out Guy really likes it. Not as much as SOME people (ahem Karl ahem), but it does a lot of what was expected and then some. Is it perfect? Nope, lot’s of room for improvement, but after some updates this could be the device that most people would want. Guy also gets a new cat and is still waiting impatiently for the iPad Pro. Gaz will check that off his list in Notes.
It’s ALL about the AppleTV and where content viewership is heading. The GMen don’t really agree and it probably stems from having two very different viewpoints on just what TV really means being Gaz is from the UK and Guy is from the US. This makes for a lively conversation with bits and pieces or other opinions thrown in just for good measure. Plus singing pumpkins. Yes that’s right.
Guy hosed his iTunes Library trying to move over to his new (old) iPhone 6 Plus and he’s still paying for that blunder with lengthy downloads from Apple. Gaz was busy too with lots of family stuff but they managed to squeeze in the time for a podcast. The iPod turns 14, but good luck finding where to buy it on Apple’s Store site. They finally get down to business and talk about the US Department of Justice wanting Apple to decrypt data on their iPhones and Apple says NO!
So Apple has this new stuff just released and the GMen have a rock solid, no holds bared, pedal to the metal, kind of nearly great (but not so much) opinion on all of it. They also talk about Bing Russell and Mary Poppins songs so there’s THAT to consider. Guy is a little off the rails for this one and Gaz tries his best to steady the ship, but the iceberg of Lunacy is never too far away. If you think the title makes no sense, wait till you hear the rest of the show.
Guy’s setup is back to hardware and everything seems great! Which naturally means that Gaz’s setup is about to go all to hell…which it did. They kept going though and had a quick snap at Elon Musk, why they love and hate El Cap, would Apple ever combine OS X and iOS ala Windows 8, and just the general hijinks and tomfoolery for which they are known for.
Everything that could go wrong with audio and computers today…went wrong with audio and computers today. But Gaz and Guy still managed to get out a podcast no matter how hard updating an OS made it. They also talk about what privacy currently means to Apple and how they seem to be really good at monetizing it.
So many wonderful things we COULD have talked about…but didn’t. Instead we get a potpourri of odd things that struck the GMen as worth talking about, so there’s that. Gaz gets paid for a photo, Guy finishes up his latest tech projects, and for some reason they talk about a Windows Phone. What the heck?
iOS 9 is here! Woo! Let the whining and complaining begin! Yes, it caused some problems for some people as pretty much any release of any major operating system will, but over all it seemed to go much smoother than iOS 8 did. We have feedback that tells us we laugh too much so of course we laughed a lot.
So that big thing happened that everyone is talking about except the GMen…except when they’re talking about it. Guy’s birthday happens and as a gift to himself he’s going to get an iPad Pro which would REALLY put the lead in his pencil but he’s not getting one, a pencil that is. Overflowing toilets and a love for the Queen of England tops out the episode. Which means it’s going to be odd.
Even for us this was an unusual show. It didn't seem lie it was going to be, but with the GMen you kinda get what you get. Our actual serious discussion is about conflicting tones in Apple's description of whether or not they can or could or would be able to read or intercept (not the same thing) your texts in iMessage. Gaz's Tips turns into a bit of a controversy over UK and US based keyboards and the People's Pick does something, we're just not exactly sure what it is.
Guy has his new iPhone 5S so everyone should be pleased that he'll stop whining about it now. Gaz is VERY unhappy with iTunes and podcasts so we can rant about that. However he did make a framed picture so less unhappy. Not sure what the scale would be between happy or not at this point. Businesses in general seem to be pretty happy with iOS so that's a good thing as lot's of companies want to cater to that market. Gaz and Guy break it down a bit and say why in their opinion it's the better platform than other mobile devices.

So STILL no new iPhones for either GMan, but it's looking like Gaz will get his first. Not that Guy is bitter or anything. They can't remember what the bet was they made that if Guy loses, Gaz punches him in the nose so Guy lucks out there. A discussion into what the next iPad might be like and then it ALL goes wrong in a hilarious way.
It seems both GMen are getting new iPhones. Guy will be seeing his probably sooner than Gaz due to Apple's unofficial US first policy. Gaz has a tale of woe about Apple's AppleTV update which seems to have disappeared. They talk about some of their likes and dislikes about iOS 7 and if you like the after show stuff, you'll LOVE this episode! Big thanks to all our G+ fans for all their contributions.
It's almost all about the new phones. Guy doesn't necessarily want one as his 4S is still working well, but ropes his son into the equation so he (sigh) has no choice. Gaz wants one now because of the better camera but ALSO wants a new iPad Mini that he has no choice about either because his family is always (sigh) on the full sized one. What are GMen to do except just bite the bullet and (sigh) go ahead and buy new iPhones. Because they really have no choice as was reasoned above.
Guy is in Florida and Gaz is joined by Bart Busschots, the normal items remain with lots of G+ chat and a few MyMac articles discussed. There’s a middle section where we have a chat about moving from iPhoto to Aperture or maybe another programme. Hoo HAH! A longer than usual podcast which is great for some of you and not great for others. Sorry or congratulations are in order for either one reason or the other. However it is just smack dab filled with Gaz and Guy shenanigans and tomfoolery. We talk about Google adding ads to their Map application in iOS because apparently that's what they think people want and what Guy and Gaz are looking forward to in OS X Mavericks when Apple releases it.
Gaz is off this week, so Guy roped in…I mean got Paul Shadwell to volunteer to step up to the microphone. Lot's of diverse topics including different ways to use your AppleTV, a bigger iPad, the iWork/iCloud beta, and the distinct possibility that Gaz's Wombles song almost killed John Nemo! Also using a network attached storage device to create your own personal cloud and Hogs are motorcycles.
OK, we said 468 a bunch of times but it's really 467. Blame it on the heat, us being tired, really ANYWHERE other than us personally. Lot's of good stuff in this show. We go over the tech we bring on holiday, switching to a new ISP, when NOT to use PhotoStream, and much, much more!
Apple needs to step it up because the GMen have actually starting talking about serious tech issues and we'll have none of THAT thank you very much. It looks like Apple may be weaning themselves off of Samsung for parts, but just how serious are they? Step one MAY be getting someone other than you know who to make their special processors.
Gaz and Guy are back on the job and this show proves it. So much craziness it almost can't be contained. Guy doesn't want to hear about the iWatch, but is interested in a possible less expensive iPhone. Gaz thinks he's nuts but no real big change there. Out great G+ Community people gives us lots to work with too and of course all the usual of what you might expect from a GG MyMac Postcast.
Guy is back from Florida a little early so was able to get the wherewithal to do a podcast. Gaz however is still exhausted from last week's show with Will Green so wasn't able to be here. Bart Busschotts from too many podcasts to list (OK we COULD list them but few people read these notes) agreed to fill in and the result was not only a very fun podcast, but the LONGEST after-show recordings we've ever done. We talked about how Mavvericks won't mean the end for some well known and vital software, lots of off-topic tangents (surprise), and how to get out of a speeding ticket in Tel Aviv.
Guy is away and Gaz chats to Will Green from the British Mac about all sorts of Mac and of course non Mac related items. Do you know why its best not to eat reheated rice, no, no neither do we. We chat about why Apple should create products that are simplistic in their use, the Mac Pro (well briefly) and all the usual mad capped stuff.
OK despite the best of intentions this is another long show. However we don't think you'll be bored because Gaz and Guy spend a lot of time discussing really cool stuff and, well make jokes at each other's expense. So yeah same stuff, just longer. They talk a bit about WWDC (TF) and how well they did (amazingly so) on their predictions. Also, what some of their favorite apps and utilities are going to do now that a good deal of their functionality is being built into OS X.
Well WWDC is almost upon us and the internets is exploding with thoughts and ideas why someone OTHER than Apple's executives should be creating new stuff. Naturally about the same number as Ivory Soap's purity (99.9%) will be wrong. Guy and Gaz would like to add to that number by talking about what they think will happen and the BEST part is you'll know immediately just how wrong they were since this comes out after the WWDC Keynote. YAY! Also, hope you got some extra time, this is a loooong show.

The MyMac G+ Plus community gets a lot of attention and the GMen talk about the upcoming release of iOS 7 and what they think it will have. Oh and some funny bits scattered throughout.
Before We start I’d like to say RIP Tim Verpoorten he was a massive influence on me when I started podcasting and it is with great sadness that I learnt of his death this weekend. I’d like to dedicate this show to him. No Guy this week, but two very special guests. James Turner from Woodpad.co.uk and Jeff Gamet from the MacObserver, hence the title of the show. Although I could have still called it the G-Men as at least two of us are Gingers
If software doesn't come in a box, is it still your software? Trick question because it was NEVER your software to begin with. Microsoft and Adobe are keen to remind you of that with a monthly fee for their most sought after programs like Office and Creative Suite. On the lighter side, the GMen get an iTunes review in Morse Code, neither can mange to say Esoterism Tesseract,and apparently it's too much for Google to do a search.
All still quiet of the Mac front as we await WWDC or well, almost anything. Guy strolls down memory lane to a podcast he and Gaz did some 150 shows ago with Actor Stephen Tobolowsky. there's GoPros, an appearance on the Nosillacast Podcast, and other kinds of techy stuff before we get into the second part of the show which is all about…stuff. Even with all this, they even keep it under an hour! And who said the age of miracles had passed?
Apparently is doomed (DOOMED I TELLS YA!) because while they had nearly 44 billion in sales, a profit of 9.5 billion, and margins of over 37%, it was less billions made in the same quarter last year. So other companies make little to no profit (but have enormous growth potential) Apple is expected to shatter sales, profit, and margins each and every quarter or the stock gets hammered. Yep, that makes sense.
Gaz couldn't be on this week so Guy looked for another Brit to take his place. Will Green worked out so well 2 weeks ago so why not again? And it was just as great this time around with so many off-topic topics that you might forget this is a Mac show! Did you ever listen to a podcast that you thought was going to go one way but went in another? This one goes in a third, fourth, and possibly tenth direction before never actually settling down. Will Green of the brilliant BritishMac Podcast joins the GMen in a very long, but never drags (not even for a minute) podcast and they talk about…well it's kinda hard to describe. Go and listen.
Gaz and Guy actually have a semi-serious conversation about Apple, Microsoft, Google, and people's perception of them as enemies. See if you can guess how long the serious part lasted? Gaz and Guy have been at it for 3 years and no signs of slowing down. What is it about these two people that keep you coming back each week? Their charm? Their intelligence? Their ever so thoughtful insights into the world of Apple? Nah, must be the larfs. This week however, they have a discussion about the seriousness of keeping your Mac secure and what are some of the things to look out for.
You got to admit it's eating better, a little better all the time (it can't get no worse)! Yep, slowly but surely we're sorting it out and eventually we'll really have something…that sounded like it did before it got all screwed up. This week along with our usual nonsense, Gaz and Guy talk about the expectation of privacy on the internet and especially from some of the various social networks.
AAAAND our audio issues continue. This time it's an odd crackle coming from Gaz. Sigh, still a work in progress folks. This week we have a discussion about why what happened to Apple in the 90's won't happen again no matter how many parallel's to it the press likes to talk about.
Gaz is REALLY cheesed off at O2 and Guy finally, maybe, just perhaps has Audio Hijack Pro, Skype, GarageBand, and SoundBoard set up so that it will all work correctly without a single problem! Sheyeah right. Big discussion about Google's Pixel laptop…err..net device…wait…touch screen…oh whatever it is, the GMen talk about it. Also Mrs. Nemo OBVIOUSLY rules the tech roost in their household. Apparently also Microsoft can't even get people to steal their products. Good thing I guess since that means no one will drive a car through their storefront windows.
Guy and Gaz are finally back together to record a podcast after a few weeks and shake some of the rust off. Guy HATES the way he sounds and this caused a delay since his fix actually made it worse (surprise). Then the GMen talk (and disagree) on where Apple's future is going and whether or not the Mac will still be there to see it.
Macworld is over and Guy is finally home from all his weary travels. Gaz couldn't make it due to family obligations so original host Tim Robertson now on Tech Fan jumps in to keep Guy from sounding weird…or is that even possible? Tim's views on the future of the Macworld Expo, and just plain craziness fill out the rest of the show.
So the Macworld Expo ends for another year. Guy couldn't find Julie Kuehl to podcast with so he did a short solo show in the press room. While we wish the fun times could go on forever, we're all too tired to go another day.
It's the end of day 2 at the Macworld Expo and Elisa, Guy, Julie, Vicki get together to talk about the events of the day. Owen Rubin also shows up so Guy doesn't feel so overwhelmed by all the ladies. Lots of vendor interviews from the floor but the real gem in this podcast is Ashton (someone please check Guy's medications).

Is everyone sick of all the pre-Macworld Expo talk? OK, I have to admit that I'm not, but we decided it was time to talk about something else. And who better to go to that something else than Guy's brother Larry Grinnell! He knows ALL the GMen's buzzwords and phases and as it turns out is actually smarter than Guy (like that's some big accomplishment).
Probably our longest show EVER, but it was all worth it as we had an extended conversation with Dave Hamilton from the Mac Geek Gab Podcast and BackBeat Media about Macworld, podcasting, how to sound good (like he does) and not so-so (like the GMen). Also some talk about how you should NEVER, EVER say bad words (but we sometimes do anyway). James Turner and Fitz John Baptiste has questions for the GMen and so can you over at our G+ MyMac Podcast page.
Paul Kent from IDG comes on o talk all about the Macworld - iWorld Expo for 2013 and Guy geeks out. As it stands right now, Guy may be the only MyMac male member this year, but Elisa Pacelli, Vicky Stokes, and Julie Kuehl (Cool) will undoubtably keep him in line. Gaz and Guy answer a serious storage question (no really!) and Apple doesn't want to be undisturbed until after January 7th.
Guy loses his Adobe Stuff but doesn't seem all that fussed about it and Gaz has his Eye on his TV (wink wink). The GMen go over some weird tech news for 2012 And both at some point or another believe themselves to be Batman. You wouldn't think this would take too long, but it actually is one of the longest shows they've done this year.

The GMen are just blown away by how quickly the community has taken a liking to…well…Google Plus Communities and the MyMac Podcast one has been very active. SO active that a good chunk of our show talking about Apple's iWork came right out of it. Not because we're lazy…OK, we were lazy, but it's really great stuff!
Well the news is out. Apple will be assembling an entire Mac line here in the US. Wonderful news and all that, but why does it ring somewhat hollow? The MyMac Podcast has a new way to talk to the GMen. It's our Google+ Community page! WOO! Now you can…do all the stuff like before…just in yet another place. Yeah, that's a win.
SPORTS! Well we did talk about sports, but then ventured off into Mac stuff. Who would have guessed? We kinda love the new iTunes, but we REALLY love your questions and feedback! This week Chuck asks the GMen about a good backup strategy for all the Macs in his life, a winner from our 400th Podcast finally checks his email (and Plasq software came through for him…thanks guys!), and FaceBook still makes poor Guy crazy. So you ask a question on Twitter and FaceBook and what happens? LOTS of listener feedback! Is Apple doing things a little bit different (as in changed from what they themselves were doing before) or is it a product of the GMen's imagination? Apparently not based on your responses. iTunes, and iMacs, and fuzzy kittens gets discussed. Well not fuzzy kittens. Maybe next week.
Extra long show this week because Gaz and Guy had lots of important things to say…actually we just wouldn't shut up. There were big doings though as Guy finally replaces his old worn out Mac Pro for a newer worn out Mac Pro but one that will run Mountain Lion and Gaz also upgrades his Macs to the new King of the Jungle. They take you through the steps they used and some of the pitfalls they discovered.
Apple gives to Hurricane Sandy relief maybe not until it hurts, but generously. On the home front, Guy might not go to the Macworld Expo and is unable to find his Time Machine. Gaz's Finder issues may have been solved by NOT turning off his Mac Mini. Guy's hatred of analysts persists with every stupid they say, Samsung sells more Galaxy SIII's than Apple sells iPhone 4S's in a single quarter, and Foxconn may build a plant in the US…sheyeah right!
Gaz and Guy are back just in tie for…something. Neither storms, poor iOS map directions, nor giant rocks could keep them away. They talk about OTHER people's 7-inch tablets, Apple management shake-up, and why iTunes is a tad late.
While the GMen are off NOT doing the 3 Geeky Ladies podcast, Timothy Gregoire from the ChurchTech Geeks podcast was brave enough to fill the gap. He and special guest Ryan Wells talk about special security set-ups for the Church Tim attends. They then have a discussion of all the Apple gear just released.
A VERY short break as Gaz and Guy just recorded last Tuesday and frankly, not much has changed in four days. That doesn't mean they can't come up with an hour of content. The quality of which MAY be questionable, but they had a good time doing it. Gaz gavel Macnatico some information on his home theater setup and they both talk about next week's GREAT PODCAST SWITCHEROO! We would tell you who we're subbing for but then you might not listen to the show this week.
Both Gaz and Guy are back and so it's back to normality! Or at least as normal as the GMen can manage. Guy's son breaks his phone so he has to get him a new one. I wonder what kind he bought? Gaz's Mac Mini seems to find a new way to hate him each week. This time by letting him log on…but just for a second or two. Another Apple event is almost upon us and they talk about what they think might be coming up. Guy's wish for a two bay Mac Mini I'm SURE is going to happen! Guy also needed help from Gaz to set up Audio Hijack Pro (again) because somehow the settings got lost from the last time. Eventually they'll get it kinda right. A great Gaz's tip as usual and Guy's head explodes not once, but four times.
Gaz gives a great explanation of gonal numbers at the beginning of the show and he lost me just after the math started….which means nearly right away. James Turner from http://www.woodpad.co.uk is on to keep Gaz from mathing out which is a good thing. There's lot's of listener feedback, finally some answers on why our FaceBook numbers went down, and fear of ducks watching you makes a comeback! Woo! Spotlight is in the…um…spotlight with a questionn from Scott and just because Guy isn't around doesn't mean there isn't a Gaz's Tip! Lastly there's something about Beavers…hmmm.
I would love to say something clever about the title, but the truth is we just couldn't think of a better one. Guy is on the mend and Gaz wanted to update to Mountie (really he did…HONEST!), but time just kept slipping away. Guy's going to Chicago next week so come on out to the new Mac Specialist store in Oak Park, Illinois if only to heckle him. Also the GMen talk about all this hullaballoo over disappointing iPhones sales and the new Maps App.
Guy is sick but doesn't use that as an excuse as to why the podcast last week was so weird sounding. If you listen closely, you can actually hear Guy's will to live leave him. Gaz keeps his ticker going with plist and daemon answers as well as a great tip! The GMen then go into their favorite and not so favorite features of iOS 6. Remember to use #livinginthenow in your next tweet because Guy thinks it's funny.
Gaz goes to the enemy camp but for a good reason while Guy tries (ye again) to figure out why Skype recording sucks and how to make it better (you can't apparently). Then they talk about the new things released by Apple (you may have heard something about it) and why some people seem to have a Lightning bug up their neithers.
It's Guy's birthday and he'll podcast if he wants to, but Skype seems to think it's a bad idea. Yep another Skype sucks and we hate it kind of show. We still had fun though making fun of Microsoft and wondering just how long has it been since most of the Mac line had been updated. Gaz gives a great tip and to the surprise of no one Guy hadn't heard of it before. Most be his old age kicking in.
Guy Jr gets cool stuff for his birthday and Big Guy doesn't. He's hoping that someone rich, drunk, or crazy (or some combination) will get him that Mac Pro or high end 27-inch iMac that's on his Amazon Wishlist (http://amzn.com/w/3736SPSFP62BA). But he's not holding his breath. Gaz WAS holding his breath and fortunately he stopped so we could do the show. His external drive is too small because Apple gave him a 750GB instead of a 500GB in the Mac mini he ordered some time ago, so it's APPLE'S fault! Tim Cook has his first year in and apparently some people have odd reasons why they don't think he's doing a good job. And what hoops you have to jump through to get Lion if your Mac can't run Mountain Lion.
It what might be a record, Gaz and Guy not only manage to keep the show under an hour, it's under 50 minutes! Hold your applause though because you may miss the greatest Gaz's Tip EVER…well we thought it was funny anyway. Samsung loses round one of the most watched patent trial since Edison won his against whoever that other person was! Some terrific feedback from you, our fantastic audience and apparently in some cultures, hippos equals horses.
Why do people find clowns so scary? Probably because they just seem creepy in general. Hands up, how many of you find the killer is a clown movies totally plausible? Yep, thought so. The GMen aren't afraid of clowns…mostly, but tech behaving badly gives them the frights. Guy replaces an iPhone with poor Bluetooth and finds that iCloud was a bit of a fail and Gaz has yet to install Mountain Lion. A clown was the lead that broke the "Who broke into Steve Jobs house?" case and Gaz finds out that some people have a natural fear of our face-painted friends. The way back machine comes into play with a DashBoard Minute from 2005 and wonder of wonders! We now have a closing theme song for Gaz's tips!
No turtles were hurt (because we like them) in the making of this podcast, but brain cells could be an entirely different matter. We recording a few days earlier from now on which means you get all that GMen goodness a few days early too! Well until you get used to it and don't think it's a big deal anymore. Gaz watches the Olympics through the BBC on his iPad and Guy wipes Snowy off his Mac Pro. We're both amused over the MASSIVE amounts of tablets Samsung sold last quarter (37,000) as well as other courtroom shenanigans from our friends from across the pond who never saw a good design they couldn't steal! Dorothy Yamamoto asks us about iCloud and much much more!
Many Skype issues this week which makes for weird audio quality and we apologize for that, but it's still a fun and crazy show. We ask if the iPad is a real computer with mixed results and Gaz answers a listener's question about using an iPad in the UK. From there your two favorite airheads talk about AirPrint in iOS and Nik Hall comes through with a "Gaz's Tips" theme song! How cool is that?
No Gaz this week as he's off on one of those pesky vacations but Guy isn't flying solo as Tim Verpoorten from SurfBits and the Mac ReviewCast jumps in. They talk about how it's Tim's fault his wife hit their garage, bad multiple modems, and a weird iPhoto Library issue. From there it's off to Some Mountain Lion talk, the death of yet another Apple cloud service, and bigger iPhones with smaller connectors. It'll all make sense once you listen…trust me!
Gaz is a bit late but it worked out for the best because we were actually able to talk about Apple's financial results for 2012 quarter 3! And you thought talk about money would be boring? Not with the GMen!
Gaz's daughter's 3GS almost goes POP, so her pop gets her a new battery for it. Guy rediscovers music from the 70s that he had (unsurprisingly) almost forgotten about. They give some thought to a potential smaller iPad that so many seem in a tither about and ask the question, "Are iOS devices ready to become your only computer?"
Another weird and fun week with the GMen as that ol Stick (or is that stuck?) in the mud Gaz has a good time watching fast cars go around a track and Guy gets a package with Crabs and Penguins. Just listen as it will all make sense soon. Guy talks about setting up an iPad and laptop for his college-bound son. TONS of feedback and suggestion from our great listeners and why Gaz and Guy don't want you to act like Batman.
Almost had another Gaz solo show with no power at Guy's house for three days, but the power company fixed it just in time! If this had been Guy's only problem over the last week it would have been no biggie, but this was just the tail end of Guy's woes and he's determined to tell you all about it. Gaz sticks to a more normal life (for Gaz anyway), with expensive FaceTime roaming charges, transitioning out of MobileMe, and another great Mac tip for this week.
At some point in-between about a zillionn other podcasts, Gaz manages to do this one. this is very good because Guy couldn't make it and who wants to listen to an hour of silence? Tim Verpoorten formally of the Mac Review Cast joins Gaz for the last two segments for a little bit of back and forth. For once, Guy isn't interrupting Gaz! Except in these show notes which Guy wrote so it's kinda like…(GET ON WITH IT!).
OK, we promise not to make many more shows this long, but we did have a guest! Tom Schmidt from First Tech and MyMac.com joins the GMen for a lively discussion on WWDC and Microsoft's new Surface Tablets. Guy deals with graduations, Gaz deals with a angry iPhone, and they both deal with new ways to possibly get podcasts in the future. You just have to deal with an extra long show.
Guy and Gaz record early because of some timing issues later in the week but circumstances almost make it impossible to record at all! It all gets straightened out though. WOOTies are proven to exist in the wild, Gaz packs extra bags for his gadgets on vacation, we get lots of feedbagck from you people (thanks for that), and the GMen go over their WWWDC predictions that will all be settled by the time you hear this. Tips, app recommendations, and a whole lot of hilarity makes this a not to be missed show.
Guy corners Neil Worton and gets him on the show which is doubly good because Gaz is on vacation and no one wants to hear Guy do a solo show. Turns out Neil has a lot to say about getting documents and other kinds of content off your Mac and on to your iOS devices with Goodreader and who woulda thunk it but Amazon has a free way to do it (sort of, but in that clunky corporate way) too. They also talk about setting up an Apple Airport Extreme or Time Capsule for some of these apps or remote access. Fun stuff and make sure you listen through to the very end for some real Diamond in the rough stuff.
More (and I promise the last) talk about the VW Bug and how it indirectly made Guy sick. The GMen start a little later than usual because of the meeting from heck that Gaz had to attend to first, and his monitors are driving him crazy. Some great feedback from our listeners and someone who was supposed to be here…wasn't. Gaz thinks it's his fault though. He makes up for it with some great new Finder tips including one that floats that Guy thinks is cool and makes him think of Tim Curry for some odd reason.

Guy and Gaz back recording together but a few days early because Gaz has to go off to Turkey (OH the HORROR!). All kinds of drama happening (none of which did we actually put on the show because…well…it's drama). Gaz finally moves to iCloud, you great listeners come through again with feedback, why is Popeye afraid of Bluto (not to worry, it all makes sense), and how many iPads can you steal at one time? A woman in Texas just needs to know. Also, replacing your laptop with an iPad can (but should it?) be done and in this first part of an ongoing series we tell you how. First up, keyboards.
While this is not podcast number 404 (the infamous webpage error), Guy was not able to join the podcast, but Gaz was ably joined by Scott Wilsey. We give the normal feedback and Scott has to deal with Gaz’s bad typing. Wowsey wow wow! What a busy and long show this week. Guy performs minor surgery on hard drive enclosures and is SHOCKED he can't buy stuff on Easter Sunday. Gaz goes to the Looe with friends (Sounds like an app to me) and wants to know what's going on with F1. The Contest sponsors get some loving with Guy and Gaz reading marketing script but unable to do it with a straight face. Oh, and in minor news, some half a million plus Mac users have been hit by malware and are part of a bonnet…WHAT?!? No worries though because the GMEN are here to help (God help us all). Gaz couldn't make it this week so Elisa Pacelli and Tom Schmidt agree (perhaps against their will) to keep Guy company on the show. Some of the topics include people who throw lawyers at glass doors and a new podcast done by the Tech women of the Stoplight Network. Elisa has a lot to say about Google Play and Tom has an app that falls somewhere between Halo and Microsoft Word.
The GMen find a new sound that makes them laugh so naturally they play the heck out of it. Guy needs some solutions to arranging his laptop for his son going to college, Gaz gets his new iPad AND an Airport Express all in one week, and they have a lively discussion about Cloud file sharing/storage solutions. Oh, and apparently some guy in China makes tea from Panda Poop.
Gaz orders an iPad while Guy gives away an iPod Touch to his sister. Arnie gets REAL tired of Guy being unable to pronounce his name and takes drastic measures. We know we know, you've heard ALL about the new iPad and AppleTV…well not yet you haven't until the GMen give their view. Also why let technical details keep you from installing the new iOS iPhoto app on your iPad 1st gen? Confused? You won't be after this episode of the MyMac Podcast.
Apple has a new iOS announcement, but that doesn't come until tomorrow for Guy and Gaz so they have NO idea what it's going to be. However they're PRETTY sure it's a new iPad with gee whiz new stuff in it. Real stretch of the imagination there, however Guy ALSO thinks there will be a special Jimmy Buffet branded one with a built-in Margarita mixing guide! Or maybe that will be saved for the iPad 4. Lastly, the GMen interview all the way from the Ukraine, Denys Zhadannov from Readdle.com about their fantastic iOS apps
No big agenda this week, just lot's of little things that add up to one crazy show. Guy finally breaks down and gets a Magic TrackPad but is somewhat unsure of just how it works without all those pesky wires all roll-y pointy things. The GMen are thankful they don't play with lightsabers and go into a few different Video Sharing sites. Erick Diaz sides with Gaz and the Macs aren't going anywhere debate, JollyJap wants to find some battery conditioning software in an audio question, and instead of an app pick, Gaz has some useful tips and tricks.
Guy apologize's for last week's sponsor screwup that he would LOVE to blame on Gaz or possibly overindulgences from the 70's but can't. This week's phobia word of the day is especially good for those who fear their mom or dad or possibly a racecar or radar. Terra Knoble from Splasm Software (one of our 400th podcast sponsors) joins the GMen for a fun chat, and why is Guy planting the seeds of doom for the Mac because of Mountain Lion? Gaz tries to set him straight, but when did THAT ever work?
On this show, Gaz has to do a bit of an end-around since his daughter took his beloved Mac Mini away, so it's off to the Mini Media server with it's 32-inch HDTV. Some 1Password love from Guy (who FINALLY bought it after saying for who knows how long he was going to) for it's web services, and the GMen talk about online Photo services, bee stings, running CAT6 cable, and Flipper?

Maybe they have a fear of naming things (no that would be Nomatophobia).The big 400th Podcast is coming up and Gaz and Guy can't WAIT to give you people stuff for being so wonderful about listening to the show! However they seem to be able to make you wait until the 400th podcast actually happens. A couple of technical problems get mentioned and the MacParrot coffee mug makes a spectacular comeback…if someone buying one to make a grand total of two made can be considered a sales success. We had some feedback concerning last week's complaints and Tom Schmidt believes he's taking over for Gaz (Not going to happen unless he changes his name to start with a "G"). We have TWO Skype calls and discuss an unnatural fear of Celine Dion. iTunes gets a working over and with the Macworld Expo right around the corner, Guy talks about gearing up (or down as the case may be) for it.
A complaining email gets answered (it's not always about peace and love darn it) and Gaz can't remember that 1password (see what I did there?) for work so goes back in Time to find it. We finally get around to a few questions from James about how we do the podcast and what we do it with and Jonny Ive get's Knighted and Guy gets squat. It's SO unfair!
More about you the listeners this week than about any news from the Mac scene. We talk about buying used Macs (kinda), the state of Radio (not really), and how to waste a perfectly good beer (OK that we did do). QuickTime gets some attention as a fast video editor and a good discussion on what we'll do on future shows goes on (say what?). All in all, a weird time is had by all but what ELSE did you expect just after Christmas?.
All relatively quiet on the Mac front so the GMen decide to have a little discussion about bigger or smaller iDevices, how Amazon is doing with the Kindle Fire, and what they got for their loved ones for Christmas…SHHH. Don't tell.
Twitter and email and FaceBook run Guy and Gaz ragged (but in a good way) as they get to all that stuff you guys wanted to talk about. Nitrous Oxide, non-working Android tablets, a face-off between Siri and Microsoft's TellMe is just the start. Jake Cherry wants to know more about iTunes and backing up and James Myers wants the GMen's opinion (God knows why) on Apple Scripting, sandboxed apps, and Apple's take on podcasting. Also a NEW segment on the show…Phobiword of the day.
Only about one and a half months togo until Macworld/iWorld! Hope you've got your hotel and flights arranged. Paul Kent from IDG comes on to talk about the new stuff this year and chat about his feelings (what?). Gaz hates iTunes or did until Lion seemed to straighten out most of his issues…well that and a new Mac. Twitter gets weird for the GMen and not one, but TWO new iTunes reviews! WOOT!
Oh those GMen! Stoplight Network goes LIVE for the MyMac Podcast in this episode. Guy gets an iPhone 4S and has syncing problems not resolved without goats, Zombie games make a splash in a big way, why big PC makers are getting out of the tablet business, and Tim Vining creator, animator of Star Trek: Aurora comes on the show to talk about how he did an hour long fully animated Star Trek show in ONLY six years!
Just as most reasonable people believed, Adobe has given up on Mobile Flash and naturally blames Apple instead of it being because it sucked. Guy gives iTunes Match a go but Gaz can't yet (however he has an iPhone 4S and Guy doesn't so Guy is sad). It may seem sacrilegious, but you CAN sync Android devices to your Mac, Apple becomes a top 5 vendor in Europe, and why we'd prefer a side order of Google.
Gaz and Guy take a short trip back to their childhood to push silicate crystals around…what? OH! Not THAT kind of Sandbox, but the kind that keeps bad stuff out at the potential cost of keeping good stuff out too. The GMen have at least one idea as to why those Birds seem to be so angry. Gaz gets all Zombiefied while throwing his (paper) weight around and Rich Lefko wants to start a petition to bring back the "Save As" command to OS X Lion. Guy's chair breaks in the middle of a segment which makes him sad.
Well originally with Guy being sick and Gaz being very busy at work it looked like there wasn't going to be a podcast this week. However Gaz delegated and Guy crawled in front of a microphone and got it done. A lot of MyMac articles to do and listeners pointing out some mistakes that they HAD to be mistaken about. Sometimes shows are so on focus and so well put together that you can't help but be proud. This is not one of those shows. After taking last week off, Gaz and Guy come out with a show probably not chock full of Apple information but guaranteed to make you laugh nearly as much as we did doing it. Lot's of Twitter feedback and a discussion about Apple's Siri iOS program which Gaz has and Guy doesn't. Some iCloud stuff and Guy talks Sam Negri from MyMac out of buying Lion and that's a good thing.
We didn't release the show we recorded last week with the sudden death of Apple's CEO Steve Jobs since our normal frivolity with the release of the iPhone 4S and iOS just didn't seem appropriate. However Gaz and I got together with Tim and Dave from TechFan (along with quite a few other people…go download TechFan 50 for the whole show) on Friday the 7th of October to talk about our memories of Steve and Apple amongst other things. Tim kindly pulled out the bit with Gaz and I and we're using that for the an extra-long intro to our show. How do you feel about a Mac made by Gateway…or Sony…or Dell? Guy asks and Gaz shakes his weary head in disbelief. As a matter of fact pretty much EVERYONE asked or that had read the article at MyMac that Guy wrote has said the same. Oh, and by the time you read this or hear this pocast, it will almost be time for unspecified iPhone news! YAY for rumors that can't be proven but have a logical consistency!
Yeah, we had some stuff to talk about, but it's mostly just fun stuff since it's kinda quiet lately. Gaz has a chat about the Liverpool Tweetup that went international with FaceTime to the US from an Italian/Spanish restaurant. It makes sense if you listen. Microsoft wants us to use Windows 8 with everything plus cheese and should you buy an iPad 2 with the the iPad 3 much closer than farther away? And let's give a great big hand to a rather unusual iPhone case.
A quiet week Apple-wise but that doesn't stop Gaz and Guy from having an extras long show. Thomas Zahler, writer and artist for the popular webcomic Love and Capes comes on to talk about how he creates his works on a Mac and what he wishes for in cool gear! Thom stays on with the GMen to have a bit of a chat about why PC makers seem to be so undecided when it comes to releasing new ultra-thin laptops similar to Apple's MacBook Air.

A sad beginning to the show. After Gaz and Guy finished recording Tuesday, Steve Jobs resigned from Apple. This was too big a story to wait until next week so Tim Robertson (you MAY have heard of him) and Guy record their thoughts on the passing of the torch at our favorite tech company. OK it's at the beginning of the show but was recorded later…mind explodes!
Meanwhile some time before that, a rare East Coast earthquake shakes things up for Guy and he seems a little more brain scattered than usual, but fortunately Gaz is there to keep him on the straight and narrow. The whole HP/WebOS thing whets some mention along with updates, Mac App Store pricing, oddly shaped German Tablets, and Orangoutangs. How is Version and Auto-Save different? We have to stop the show to find out and Gaz FINALLY gets a People's Pick (or three). Guy cuts a bit of himself out of the show because he basically gave away Gaz's Contest…BAD GUY!
Larry Grinnell (Guy's brother) join the GMen in a spirited and long debate about Google's purchase of Motorola's Mobility branch and Gaz's brother rides something called the "Flying Fish of Cowes". Gaz isn't happy there's been no People's Picks for Apps and he just might track each and every one of you down unless you comply. Also another chance for one of those oh so wonderful WOOTie Awards and is that a banana in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?
Ed McGee and Reb Bliefenich give Guy a hand with Gaz gone for the second week and we are all ore the place with AppleTV updates, cheap iPhone 4s, 21st century hardware smuggled with decidedly low-tech gear, and there's someone in line for an iPhone 5…already…Really?
Apparently last month made for the sixth year anniversary of the first time Guy podcasted and with Gaz off on Vacation, Rick Stringer was kind enough to step into the madness! It's the MyMac Podcast #34 with Tim and Chad and Guy comes in with the Dashboard Minute at about the 7 1/2 minute mark but don't skip over the rest as it's chock full of Tim and Chad goodness. Not to mention a hysterical Chris Seibold and his Not Mac News segment. However on THIS podcast Rick and Guy talk about patent battles and iCloud storage costs and neither can remember app picks or who's going to be on next week.
Guy and Gaz attempt to do the impossible! Which is record a podcast with no working software on Guy's computer. Fortunately Gaz hasn't upgraded to Lion on his production machine (like Guy did and shouldn't have) so they recorded from his computer. Guy feels ashamed (sad Guy face). Reggie Ashworth maker of AppDelete and VidConvert comes on the show from the Philippines making this a truly world-wide affair! LOT'S of feedback from our great listeners and they talk a bit about the new gear from Apple, getting Lion (whether you should or not is open for debate) on your Mac and a few of the problems that we had.
Guy and Gaz FINALLY end all the iHub stuff with feedback from many of our winners AND we record live some of their entries! Google Plus gets compared to other currently more popular social media sites and is the iPod on life support? OH, and apparently Apple made a lot of money last quarter YAWN!

Guy is back from Ohio so the GMen are right on the job! We find out who Herbert Stein is and why he just can't continue, Guy sells his Mac Mini at a fantastic price that no one else can get (but tells you what it is anyway). They're then joined by Mark Schulman from MultiEducator Inc. to talk about his American History app for iOS called Revolutionary War which leads into a short argument over whether independence from the UK was a good idea or not. More iCloud and Final Cut Pro X talk and Apples scores in a BIG way in Asia!
Gaz is Joined by Peter Upfold from as Guy is traveling and catching up on all his podcasts. We chat about the MobileMe demise and Peter mentions a possible, well partial paid for alternative in Fruux. It seems that the people have finally heard Guys calls for Bumper feedback and maybe they realize how valuable the iHubs could end up being.
Guy picks (well actually Gaz picks an iPhone game for him, yes it’s ZOMBIES. Gaz goes for some old favorite cloning Apps Carbon Copy Cloner Donation software SuperDuper from Shirt pocket $27.95 Peter comes up with a donation software app that keeps an eye on your battery.
Gaz and Guy are ALL over the map tonight (well more so than usual). Guy had an interview with Allison Sheridan over at the Nosilla Podcast at Podfeet.com and Gaz did a video review over at the Tech Lounge. Guy's Brother Bill comes on to talk about how he self-published his book called Stealing Ali. It started with Paper and pen, and finished on a Mac! Talk about a long strange trip. Apple releases Final Cut Pro X, Motion, and Compressor for simply ridiculous prices! Lastly some analyst writes a 49 page document saying the iPad will RULE FOREVER! Um…what?
Skype seriously disliked us tonight with Volume issues and hisses. But we soldered on and had a great time talking about all kinds of stuff and LOT'S of great feedback from out terrific listeners! We got our 50th FaceBook Liker (is that even a word?), talked about DropBox, and Actor Richard Dreyfuss was kind enough to read the iTunes EULA for us…um what? iWeb may be history and Gaz is not happy about it. iTunes Match gets a going over and Guy can't end the show worth a darn.
No Gaz tonight so Owen Rubin joins Guy and they discuss all the latest just announced at Apple's World Wide Developer's Conference. You get their takes on OS X Lion, iOS 5, the wireless syncing for iOS devices to come, the iCloud, and just what the heck is iTunes Match? Lastly, as it turns out, all this SoundBoard silliness is OWEN'S fault!
Gaz's daughters just can't seem to keep their iPhones in good working order but if ANYONE is getting a new phone first it will be Gaz! Guy finds a solution to JollyJap's problem with the Mac App Store…all he has to do is turn off a security feature. People seem to love planking, we just don't know why. Apple actually announces some of the stuff for the big WWDC conference next week and we are SHOCKED. Gaz asks if we really even need a desktop or laptop computer anymore and lastly, we're running a contest and you hardly have to do anything to win but be creative!
Boy we touched a nerve somewhere with TONS of feedback from the listeners! And we LOVE it! Guy makes mistakes and gets called on the carpet for it (don't worry folks, he's used to it). More iMac hard drive talk, Godzilla makes a special appearance, and we both agree on AppleCare (if by agree we mean Gaz says no thanks and Guy says yes). Apple tells LodSys to get stuffed and developers cheer (yea)! Lastly, the Apple Stores turn 10 and Apple celebrates with…more iPads?
This is a very anti-establishment show this time around as it seems Microsoft was probably listening last week as we criticized them and as a result, Skype was behaving very badly! They probably won't be pleased with THIS show either as Guy goes through hell trying to get a product license for his LEGALLY purchased copy of Windows 7. No matter, lots of great stuff with an iChat chat, John Nemo's Wife loves animals, and one of Gaz's hard drive enclosures takes a dirt nap. Guy is very angry (SO angry!) with LodSys, the latest patent troll that takes a novel approach at getting money from Apple buy suing iOS developers and frankly we aren't very pleased with Apple either as doing something as simple as a hard drive swap spins your fans to the max.
Dan Wood from Karelia Software comes on with the GMen and they have a great chat about Karelia's SandVox version 2 which was just released. Dan generously offers a 20% discount for the whole month of May for MyMac Podcast listeners! Just type in "MyMac" in the adjustment section on the payment page. Tim asks for gas at a battery powered car maker. Skype has a Mac-only Malware Exploit AND gets bought by Microsoft. Seems like a match made in heaven. Lastly, we make fun of Steve Balmer…because we can.
For a show that started off with Guy desperately trying to find a topic, they sure talked a lot. Some email and Twitter questions are up first, followed by a long discussion about Apple's new shiny iMacs (Oh that quad-core goodness!) and another on how iMovie for iOS is NOT the only game in town.
Elisa agrees (silly girl!) to come on and try again to record a podcast with not one, but TWO GMen. Guy apologizes (again) for all the screw ups with the audio and as it turns out it WAS entirely his fault to absolutely no one's surprise. We get some great Twitter and email feedback from JollyJap and Klaus from Germany leaves an audio comment from our Skype number about the Google defamation lawsuit in Italy. Steve McShane records a review for the Samson Go Mic, and we talk about updates, and quarterly's, and location privacy (oh MY!)
Technical difficulties pretty much destroyed the podcast recorded with Elisa Pacelli so as a stopgap, we present what thousands of you have asked for! OK, a couple of hundred…OK, alright! NO ONE asked for this but it's a fun listen anyway.
Don doesn't have another daughter with an 18th birthday this week, so he couldn't reasonably get away from the GMen. We talk a bit about his methods and madness when doing screencasts (in the middle of crazy GarageBand delays which screws all of us up). We also chat up a new possible version of Final Cut Pro (which naturally DID happen RIGHT after we finished recording), Jailbreaking iOS devices, and discover that Don is a bit Squirrelly.
Don is in BIG trouble with the GMen! He promised to be on but let his daughter's 18th Birthday get in the way! BAD Don! BAD Don! We have a great show regardless with a good discussion about Lawyers, Guns, and Money but without the guns as it relates to recent events concerning Apple and Google. That's followed up with a good laugh (from Guy anyway) about Microsoft taking over big in the mobile market at Apple's expense.
This one runs a bit long as in our longest show ever, but it's chock full of great! Some terrific Twitter feedback that leads into a discussion about microphones and Application deletion software. Some email talking about why Reb WON'T buy an iPad, and Bill Palmer checks in and even stays for the third segment to talk about the upcoming 100th issue of BeatWeek Magazine!Guy gets his battery changed and annoys everyone with the theme song from the place that did it and lastly, Apple's World Wide Developers Conference is coming but maybe no new hardware? Bummer.
JollyJap gives the GMen a couple of weird stories (as our unofficial Twitter Correspondent! Congrats Paul…I think) and Tom Engels from the Explorer's Podcast has a question or two about iTunes and GarageBand problems that is certain to induce nightmares for Guy. China seems to hate juveniles, and Android beating iOS in web tests goes down in a Blaze! Old timers remember Bungie's Myth and now it seems to be back! Lastly, Adobe makes a Flash to HTML 5 conversion tool called Wallaby (but apparently doesn't carry around their employees in a pouch). If Flash is going to win out over Apple's objections, why do they need it?
The new iPad 2 from Apple gets quite a going over with a discussion started with an email from John Nemo. Lots of feedback from Twitter and JollyJap calls Guy a big Yank Tank. Was Gaz able to get himself an iPad while in Nashville? Ding Dong the Zune looks to be dead and Safari lasts for about 5 seconds at Pwn2Own. Lastly, ATT thinks that putting on a 150GB cap for broadband service is a great idea because of the alleged online habits of 2% of their customers…Really?
LOT'S of feedback this week (HooRAY! We love feedback!) from Skype and Twitter about iPads and what gear to buy. Allison Sheridon of the NosillaCast Podcast takes exception to Guy calling the Dexim charger fun but worthless, and Gaz's iPhoto library is slowing to a crawl! What's up with THAT? Lastly, sometimes the best iOS App is none at all.
Habla Espanola? Never mind. The Gmen talk about some of details of OS X 10.7 Lion, Guy praises Macs4u.com for their great service regarding his Mac Pro. They dissect the newly released MacBook Pros and talk a bit about some new 2nd generation device that Apples seems to think is SOOOOO important. Some tablet thing or other. We still think it's just a fad.
Guy has his Mac Pro and through a Herculean effort has it ready for the podcast! Gaz has a new toy too and it's making Guy drool. I wonder what it could be that would take his mind off his new Mac Pro?
Despite our best efforts (we really didn't try that hard, but we like to pretend we do), this is an extra-long show.
